Nice work! However, in these type of games, it shouldn't take that long to respawn.

Nice work! However, in these type of games, it shouldn't take that long to respawn.
Really stylish visuals, but the difficulty felt like it was tuned a bit too high for me. My High score was 20.0
Very nicely done, it is pretty dang hard but the graphics and mood make it so good
It was quite fun but really tough. A lot of the jumps were hard to gauge especially with the ropes, I felt like I would get caught up on the rope after swinging. Did you test out adding double jump or wall jumping? I think this could be a really fun endless runner. Nice job!
- @sugarsugarsugar thanks for the feedback, i agree, i did try to make it quite short to restart but i guess insta-respawns are more favourable. - @spudboy nice highscore! im going to make a post-compo version with fixes for difficulty and stuff like that, but thanks for playing! - @taximan981 thanks for playing! - @kassanu i didnt get around to adding extra-movement options but it seems like a cool concept! ill play around with it for the post-compo version. thanks for playing!
Hard but damn it looks so sick. I love the dope-ass flips the character does, and the ropes are a pretty fun feature too. Awesome!!!
I really appreciate harder games where you have to grind a little to get good. My good runs were far and few between, but hitting one just felt that much better.
My high score was 118.73
Sometimes it felt like it generated platforms which were just outside of jump range, and sometimes the ropes tangled in a way where the second one was inaccessible. Could just be me being bad tho.
Anyway I can tell there was a lot of care and effort put into this game.
this game looks so good! i found the rope/swing controls a little fiddly, but the movement is fun and fluid.
Nice game idea and well implemented! The difficulty curve is a bit steep and since I ended up dying A LOT it would've been nice to be able to skip going through the menus every time. Well done! It's a really clever game!
This game looks absolutely spotless, and feels slick. The controls and mechanics could use some tweaking, but I get that in such a short timespan you have to pick where to focus, and it shines in those areas.
Can you make a web build, please?
Really cool game! I think it would be better if way to retry would be shorter - e.g. pressing 'r' on death immideatly restarts level
- @balduvian-dead wow thats higher than my own highscore! the impossible gap thing is a bug with the generation code, once i get home im going to make a quick patch fix for it. (i think thats allowed if its a bug) thanks for the feedback :D - @mogaiskii i agree, i cant add it to the patch build as its considered a new feature, but in the post-compo release im planning to do i will definitely implement it #### thanks to everyone for playing :)
@qthree i havent done a web build before but i will look into it tonight. im not sure it will work with the URP renderer post processing though
Good potential for a simple running game with satisfying jumping, but you should look into a way so the player doesn't collide with the ropes. Countless times I've jumped off and had been stuck. Good work though man
Amazing visuals, and the sound perfectly matches the minimal/retro style. I liked flip jumps on the player, and the PB system. I agree with the other commenters about the respawn times, however it does incentivize skill by making the process to start the next run longer. Tutorial level is a nice touch as well. Great work, keep it up!
Congratulation. Very nice, and polished enrty.
And like others: shorter respawn time, or at least restart after hitting space on score screen.
My highscore was 51.9. Love the simple design and the bloom shader, although the ropes are too difficult to handle since they kill a lot of momentum. Only lost one run in all my attempts to the anomaly, most of the time the jumps were too precise to get or the ropes couldn't swing far enough.
I loved how it looks! The game feel is also awesome!!
As you pointed out, the game is really difficult at the moment. Another point, is that as it is supposed that the player die a lot, I would give a more quickly restart. Something almost immediatly
I love the less is more artstyle as well as the post processing going on. The game feels fun to play, but it's certainly a difficult game. Overall, I think it's a good game! My high score was 37.4. Keep making games!
@qthree there is now a webgl build! i dont know how long it takes the servers to update the download links but you can find it here: https://r3nn1.itch.io/instability
I'm liking the visuals, but given the difficulty, the time it takes the game to display the retry button once you die is waaay to high, so you can't just spam attempts.
I love the visuals and audio on this game, very nicely done! Only criticism I have is that the respawn time is fairly long for how difficult the game is, but that's an easy fix. Great job!
I like the style a lot, and the graphics/colors/music really blend together very nicely. Had a hard time actually making progress, but I probably suck. Really smooth systems for tracking high score and everything. Nice, simple, and well made. Love these sorts of Jam games!
@r3l0ad1 Thanks! Completed a tutorial and played a bit, looks good and promising, but the game needs a great time investment to master it, and, as noted above, game over screen delays restart too much, especially for newbies.
....

Yeah, I'm not great at this....
This is one *really* polished jam game, and a Compo entry no less! The graphics are spectacular. My only suggestions for a post-jam version would be to make the player less touchy (for a precise speedrunning game, the player is incredibly touchy) and to make ropes easier to swing between. Chains of 3 or more ropes get nearly impossible for me, the ropes get in the way of the player when you try to swing.
I got the unbridgeable gap bug too, there was a screen-wide gap that was both too far and too high to jump across.
Super polished game. Amazing graphics and sound. Simple mechanics while still being a challenging game. Amazing job
@peace-of-cake-games thanks for the constructive feedback! I agree i could make the character less sensitive to in air movements and i should disable collision between ropes. I will do these things for the post-jam version. Sorry about the impossible gap aha hope it didnt ruin a good run. Nice highscore and thanks for playing!
Highscore 13.6 :(
Everything about this is just really high quality. I remember reading your post the other day while you were still working on this, and thinking "man that's a really good idea", and it was. The game just came out really well. Very good job.
Edit-Also yea it's very difficult.
63.51! Great compo game! Like the flip you do when you jump and the simple fun arcade gameplay. Also props for adding a tutorial to the game! The only real issue I had was that the level generation can sometimes be a bit rough. Like swinging to a high platform can be pretty difficult to do in one go.
I found the difficulty a little too high (and as someone else said, the respawn time too long considering how much I was dying!) but the game looks and sounds great, and that was enough for me to keep at it and get better at the controls. Good work!
Nice game! Got to 64. Very stylish graphics, and the audio goes well with it. It's very easy to get into a flow playing it, trying to beat the high score. It would be nice if there was a quicker way to retry, like pressing space again, instead of having to wait for the game over screen to come in. It could be nice if the ropes didn't collide with the player unless you're holding onto them, since you sometimes get stuck in them. But that can be part of the challenge.
Well done!
Really well made game! I agree the respawn could be just a tad faster
Very pretty aesthetic and satisfying movement! There's just a few small details that bother me:
- I entered the anomaly in the tutorial and got soft locked :d - Wish I could use the arrow keys cuz it's more comfortable. - Restarting is slow cuz you have to wait for the button, ideally, in my opinion, you'd just restart immediately and your score would be shown in the HUD.
I got 40.68 after many attempts. The physics are super fun, and the rope mechanics, while finicky, feel very nice when you get it right!
everything about it is amazing! you used only 3 colors and simple cubes, but it's extremely pleasing on how it looks, i think the grab mechanic should be a little more precise, but it's satisfying.
thanks for playing everyone! @fupi Ah yeah that thing with the anomaly in the tutorial is a weird bug, im still trying to fix it. Arrow keys is a good suggestion and yeah in the post-jam version i will make respawning faster. Thanks for the feedback!
Very nice entry for this ludum dare. The game feels finished and it's exceptionnal for a compo game. The music was cool and I like that there is two different instrumental parts for when you are in the game or in the menus. The retry button should appear a lot quicket in my mind (it can be frustrating to wait 2 or 3 sec when you screwed up).
Saw your post about this game the other day and looked really good. Had fun playing it, Was much harder than I expected. Either that or im just bad at it! But a really solid entry
Simple yet interesting concept! I really like juicy visuals here :)
I think you have the presentation values down pat - the full-fledged tutorial, the bloom, the adaptive soundtrack, even the little particle effects when you land. It all looks and sounds super amazing!
That being said, I couldn't quite into the groove of things. The platforms were just a little bit too awkwardly placed so I felt like I had to keep starting and stopping to land on them. And the ropes felt a bit weird to climb and often slowed down my momentum in an otherwise fast-paced game.
And @decentsauce : You got 63.51? What a coincidence...
instable highcore.png
Incredible game! It's hard as bricks, but the presentation is slick and the mechanics are satisfying!
I would say presentation is A+ but I have some minor gamedesign issues, that I feel like reduced the fun a little bit. First of I feel like you should have just respawned the player, once you die, the menues fly in and it takes some time. It was enough for me to always get me out of the flow the game did get me into. I also started to play before I used the tutorial, I think you should just let players start with the tutorial and make it skipable (if you think people will play the game more than once). For some reason I found the ropes to be difficult to navigate. Dont get me wrong the game is realy good and I am seriously impressed by what you have done.
Wow, this is so much fun.
I really like games with "simple" concepts, few controls, but really hard mechanic to master. And this is one.
While the graphics are minimalistic as it gets, the visuals are very nice and the sounds enhance the atmosphere as well.
The only thing i found a bit annoying is the respawn time.
I tried the HTML5 version first and it is way too laggy to play. I recommend downloading for experiencing the game properly. Guess the HTML build can't really handle the post-processing effect, or my computer is a potato!
Excellent job on this game!
Very fun game!
High Score - 62.70 Wow, this game was pretty hard, and sometimes it felt like that shouldn't have been the fault of the player. Sometimes the ropes got in the way, and made it impossible to chain between the ropes. Also, at a certain point, the wall just moves too fast to go any further. With that out of the way, I think this game was fantastic. The controls were super responsive, which I love, and the gameplay was super understandable. I didn't even need the tutorial. The visuals were nice, but at times I think you overdid the post processing just a tad much, nothing game breaking though.
Great job on your game! I enjoyed it
visuals are absolute eye candy. gameplay is pretty solid and fun too. nice work!
Tooo slow restart.
It's so cool! I love your idea. I only play on web and it's a little bit low frame. I will try to download it next time.
Amazing game. I got like 20.0 high score which is not great. Will have to keep at it. Only thing I would like would be a button to quickly restart.
I'd really love to have a button to restart quickly. Tap R to restart. Because I have to wait for the score screen each time, I can't get a hang of the movement.
This game just shows how much mood some post-processing can bring to simple rectangles. Great job!
Very fun and challenging platform game. The control feels fluid and the visual effect looks cool.
Great game, the platforming mechanics work well.
Really slick presentation and I really like the concept of the decaying platforms and ropes. The tutorial was very much appreciated, especially with learning to swing on the ropes. The difficulty is a bit high to start, but overall really cool game.
Great game! Very polished. My only complaint is that the sounds get a bit annoying after awhile. Well done!
Cool game! I like the visuals and the music. The issues I have with it have mostly been addressed already (rope collision, restart). Regardless, game feels smooth.
You could consider adding improving menu navigation by pressing WASD/arrows and enter for confirmation, so using mouse would be optional. There could even be a separate restart button to cut corners.
This feels like a finished game. Controls feel great. Game is fun. Graphics, even if minimalistic, are great. This could totally be released as a great mobile game. Only thing i would change is when you loose, make it so you can respawn faster/instantly, having to wait that much gets a bit annoying especially with how often you die (especially in your very first moments of playing). Maybe make it so the spacebar can respawn instantly even if the menu hasnt finished animating in. Maybe make the player automatically cross a rope you hold on to its right side
@mrchip yes, i will be addressing the respawn the issue in the post-jam version, also, that crossing idea sounds great! i might use that instead of just turning off rope collisions. thanks!
I thought this is like Thomas Was Alone but... how wrong was I.
Very very solid gameplay. Feels super smooth and intuitive to play right away. Overall very cool. I feel like the ropes were a little hard/clunky to use, maybe if their start position was always leaning towards the player you would be able to swing smoother. But that's just an idea, idk.
amazing game. I've had a good time playing.
Nice simple style - and good beats :thumbsup_tone1: simple and easy to understand.
:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:
Respawn time is very anoying, I want to try more, but wait to much time is horrible. Really ?! That game is really fun, good job. Averagly fit into the theme.. You art is not good, sorry. I like little that audio, maybe next time.
One last note: I always write down honest review, because everybody need that, not just nice craps with some bullshit, but sometime I will aperceite very good games. So if this review insult you, but use it well :) Anyway every game is counting so :)
Very solid entry, it was fun!
A little advice, for this highly muscle memory games where you replay several times it's better to have an easier way to restart the level without having to reach for the mouse as you're already concentrated and focused on the keyboard.
I thought it was superfun and both the audio and visuals are really good! I did feel like the ropes were a bit annoying and it felt like getting a good score was based more on luck of not getting too many ropes rather than "being good", but that might just be me not fully grasping the mechanic! Overall it was a fun experience however! :D
I really enjoyed the Art and the SFX. loved the game. One of my favorite of this ludum
:) Cool game! Wow, yes, very challenging! But a really great feel. The movement mechanics are solid. The simple art style all fits together really nicely. The music adds a good depth. The sfx are good. The tutorial is great!
The graphics, gameplay and soundeffects are so great in this game, but honestly i dont find it related a lot to the theme :// tho i enjoy playing it ... And it's a lil hard tbh for the first time ^^
I love endless runners, and there feels like a lot of potential in this one :) Super well polished, very satisfying jumps when they go well! Agreed with others that it would be nice to have a faster respawn cycle. It felt like reversing direction if I overjumped a platform happened a lot more suddenly than I expected, but that's down to taste/difficulty. Great entry!
Awesome work overall! Haven't played many games, yet, but I can already see this being one of my favourites this jam.
Really fun game! It would have been much better if you made the first 10-20 seconds a lot easier, cause even after the tut, I was dying within 5-10 seconds which made the game too frustrating since I didn't feel like I was accomplishing anything.
Loved the mechanics and transitions. The game end transition could have been sped up 3-4x times to make things snappier since it's a game where you die a lotttt. Great work!
This game is super challenging! I really enjoyed the upbeat music and graphics style but I also couldn't last for longer than 10 seconds in the actual game :( Overall a really great job!
Greate game! I would give faster restart option and it would be fun game for mobile :)
Now THIS is stylish. I love the effects you went with and movement is crisp. Extremely fun entry!
This game definitely is hard yet fun to play. Once you master the arcs of the jump and able to jump well then it's a very enjoyable experience (Only manage to get 25 as my high score though x.x) It felt polished in a challenging way.
Would be nice to have a quick restart button instead of keep seeing it within the score counter or something along those lines.
Good visual and addicting gameplay. One of my favorite
Wooow, i just want to keep playing this game forever! It's so hard but also so satysfying. I have one problem with this game, i feel dizzy when i play it too long probably because of strong post proccesing? I don't know but besides that a cool and addicting game!
Had a great time with this, addictive gameplay and lovely visuals. You also achieved a great level of game "juice" :) cool audio and music too! One little thing, I like to use the arrow keys in a game like this, and it also would have been nice to press a button on the keyboard to retry but thats small stuff!
good job and great effort! 👏
So much fun playing your game. Really cool aesthetics and physics! I just wish it has some slower start to get used with the gameplay. But maybe is just me that played bad. One of the best games i played on gamejam. Really good job!
@lumbigui hi, thanks for playing! the tutorial acts as sort of a 'practice' level for now, as there isnt any kind of chasing object in it. So to get used to the mechanics you could use that :)
The mechanics are quite simple but fun, I love the art style. The death can be quite frustrating because you have to wait for the result screen to show and use the mouse to retry. Nonetheless the game is really polished good job !
Stylish game with easy to learn and hard to master. Love your game but I think some ropes are too difficult to grab. how about rigid pole swinging back and forth?
Great game! I would have loved a quick-restart key (perhaps space bar) so I didn't have to reach back for my mouse after every run
damn this is unforgiving! I would appreciate if there would be an immediate restart so you can just keep trying. Great minimalistic art style, everything fits together!
Cool, but too difficult for me 🤣 My best result is to fall after the second platform ( it's better than after the first one, right?)
Love the style! This game has a very clean feel, and I really like the visuals! It is unforgiving, though, and I agree with others that an instant restart option would likely be very appreciated!
Well done!
Awesome graphics, very polished. The game is hard but fun, would have played more if I could restart faster
Congrats you are the first LD49 game to take my breath away. The pure beauty you got out of white rectangles is truly unbelievable. Then you go an mix in a perfectly fitting audio scape. Chef's kiss!
Oh right the gameplay. Yah had a blast here! Would have loved a double jump but it looks like you are aware and are going to add it post jam.
Great work looking forward to seeing more.
Looks great, clean, good audio. Really like the 80s feel. I might be inclined to suggest the first few blocks were designed to get you into it and have the random generation starting a bit later but that's just me.
Very cool game idea and nice implementation. The art style fits 100% with the idea of the game. However the jumps could be more precise and about the ropes, they should swing directly with the player, after he jumped. That would keep the flow and even more enjoyable. My highscore was slightly above 20. I'd revisit if you make the respawn faster and create a better flow with more different obstacles, looking forward to it!
Really nice visuals! as said above my only concern was the controllers while on the rope. But overall great job =D
Really cool idea! I like the flow of the game and the tightness of the controls. The rope seemed like more of an obstacle than a tool though, so I might suggest letting the player swing on ropes but not collide with them. Very stylish and good use of post-processing, even the menu felt smooth and responsive.
Games like this really do need a way to speed up the restarts 😅 Great work!
controls feel really snappy and polished, great!
The visuals are simple but effective and I really enjoyed the gameplay, but considering how hard it is I wish it restarted quicker. But I guess you've already heard that  But yeah I really liked it, thanks for making it
Nice job: it's a well-executed concept and the controls feel responsive. I found it a bit tricky to get the hang off, but I can see this being the sort of thing where it's very satisfying to zip through the stage when you've got the mechanics down pat. :)
Had alot of fun trying to beat my highscore, highest was 65.88
Hard but fun well done! I really like the chromatic aberration effect. I agree with previous posts that a faster restart would do a lot, still great job!
i loved it and it felt super tight, maybe a little too hard for me
nice job - it was a little too hard for me but I'm pretty terrible with this kind of game!
Aesthetic is super polished and jumping mechanic feels clean.
The ropes are frustrating. Depending on the distance they spawn away from the nearest platform or the angle of their swing, it becomes close to impossible to get past or even latch onto some of them. Also, restarts should be faster.
It feels good but I think the ropes need a bit of work and some of the RNG feels bad because of them. Like getting 3 ropes in a row feels bad rather than multiple jumps.
It seems you've addressed the biggest pieces of feedback people have had, which is awesome. I will just say that as someone who aspires to do a Compo one day, it's pretty inspiring seeing what you can achieve when leaning into incredibly simple art design combined with some great shaders! It's crazy to see how many jams you've been a part of. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make next!
High score was 68.8! I found the ropes really frustrating, the way they could wrap around the bottom of the character. It'd be nice if jumping off kind of phased you through the current rope rather than making you still collide with it
I really wanted to play more of this game, but you managed to hit two pet peeves:
-In a game where you may be restarting every 20-40 seconds, don't set the restart button so far back. It is very elegant and smooth, but it breaks the flow of the game. I want to get right back in there and it's holding me back. -I don't like playing platformers with a keyboard. It's made in unity, and it looks like you're using the default controls, so I am not sure why it is not recognizing controller input.
Also, the ropes were a little finicky. Unless you land at the exact end of the rope, you're pretty much screwed, which is generally where most of my runs ended. Also, I had a few ropes that were swinging in unison, so I had no way of reaching from one rope to the next.
I really like the visuals and the audio. The whole game has a really nice consistent visual style, despite just being black and white. The character feels good to move and jump around. I was just put off by the few things mentioned above.
Writing as I'm playing
1- pausing on lost focus, a good quality-of-life improvemtn that often gets overlooks.
2- music sounds great
3- upon starting the tutorial i not that A and D allow you to move but arrow keys do nothing. I think this would've been nice, especially during the roping sections.
4- When the anamoly showed up in the tutorial, I ran into it to see what would happen and got stuck, had to restart the page. maybe a pause menu with restart option would be good.
5- gameplay is entirely keyboard input, so it'd be good to have menu input with keyboard also. Pressing any key to retry rather than having to use mouse, etc.
6- gameplay is very nice. i like it. I could see myself coming back to this game every now and then, and few jam games really grab my attention like that
7- difficulty curve is very high. the procedurally generated levels could use some tweaking, like to breaking playforms for a given amount of time at the beginning, then even further for the breaking ropes. Allow new players to get some distance before they're beaten down.
8- Being a precision platformer, I think the game could benefit from jump buffering any coyote time. Maybe tweaking gravity with a slower decent and more hangtime.
9- Many ropes are hanging and you have to swing first. Getting three of those in a row pretty much makes it impossible to progress.
10- Was just thinking that in addition to adding arrow keys for movement, adding mouse click to jump would be good too. This also means their hands will already be on the mouse to click restart.
Final thoughts: Definitely a fun game, looks and sounds great (simplistic in a good way). But with unforgiving controls and randomly difficult, sometimes seemingly impossible, setups, it gets a bit frustrating.
Really fun game that I could definitely see growing into a full release at some point. A few things I think that could make the game easier for people to just pick up and play is too reduce the time it takes to get back into the game once you die, kind of like super meat boy, it'll increase that just one more try factor. Also I feel like you should be able to slide down the ropes or maybe go through them but be able to latch on just an idea. Overall I think you did an excellent job on the game and hope to see it go further goodluck!
Pretty fun but a little difficult, the ropes are difficult to pass due to the collision that they have. Great job!
Really simple yet fun gameplay! Felt super polsihed.
I think this game is a good example of why pure randomization is generally detrimental to the experience. Pretty good execution otherwise.
Firstly, cool menu. Secondly smooth controls. Loved the game it is fun. Its kind of hard for me. Also maybe you can respawn faster. But well done!
Nice concept. A note about controls would have saved me my first life. Cool graphics and sounds but would have been good to have more of a music loop
Really fun to play I liked the invert effect that chases after the player, although I originally thought it killed you straight away XD
Хорошо, что есть веревки, которые падают. Иначе бы они висели вечно, и мироздание бы грустило.
Спасибо за игру!
Is this the winner of LD49?
Great job on the graphics, only using rectangles you still managed to make it look amazing. I'd say the death screen could go a bit faster, being able to jump back in asap would make it better imo. Also more movement mechanics like double jumping and dashing could go a long way.
Such an incredible submission :D It looks amazing and the movement is so smooth. The game is fun to play although quite difficult at times, it took a while to get a hang of the ropes. Overall, really superb!
Beautiful game, well finished !
Controls are pleasant, expect the fact that it's the same button to jump and hold the rope, I would prefer an alternative button. Audio is great, post process are nice. The tutorial is simple but works well !
Amazing !
What an amazing looking game! I really need to learn shaders...
Overall this ticks many of the boxes of a great platformer, however it really needs some jump height control: the longer you press spacebar, the higher you go. Other than that I think everything else has been said before, congratulations for this great entry!
@fupi @coderaurus @curleysam @shaolin-dave I have just uploaded a mini post-jam version that features faster restart times aswell as arrow key movement. Feel free to check it out! :)
Nice! I much prefer the arrow key controls. Got to 80,11 now!
Okay, the game is obviously great. The graphics and audio are both perfect. Audio is maybe a bit repetitive, but kinda catchy, so I don't mind. I haven't played the updated version (or maybe I did? I am not sure, I played the HTML 5 one) and it's kinda funny because the problems I wanted to point out are prolly addressed by the patch and by your to-do list. So I am just gonna say that I felt that the waiting time between rounds were crazy long and that sometimes the ropes were more like soft walls. When you jump too high on the rope, it's very difficult to get from it. Overall I enjoyed the game.
Nice work. I liked this a lot. Although I'm sure you are aware that this game can be a little unforgiving at times. Some runs you are just at whim to the rng gods, whether that be platform height delta being too large or the screen moving to fast to do chain rope to rope. All of those are minor issues, knowing that balance for something like this is difficult in a Jam. My one major issues with the game is that it takes far too long to get into the next run. Please, allows me to get addicted to your game.
After spending some time I managed to get around 65 highscore. One idea, which I'm not sure would work, is disabling the player collision with the rope after releasing. That way you might be able to freely swing from rope to rope which at the current moment is awkward if you get trapped higher up the robe. Overall, great work. And great work marketing this game. I saw those epic gifs everywhere.
Thanks. Downloaded an played the post-jam version a bit.
FYI your Mac version has corrupted permission that I had to fix via terminal, a common problem when .apps are put directly into a .zip to be distributed. [I outlined a fix for this in a previous post](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/the-looper-encounter/an-important-notice-for-mac-players-repost-for-48)
One other note is I think it'd be nice to be able to quit from the death screen, rather than having to go back to the menu.
Nice game, simple graphics but with enough of an effect to make them look appealing. It looks like restart times have already been touched upon so I won't mention them. If I had to offer criticism, I'd say that maneuvering with the rope feels a bit awkward for my liking, maybe that's part of the difficulty curve but I can't say the ropes were my favorite part of the gameplay loop. Still a fun game though, classic platforming but with enough of a change in the gameplay to make it stand out. Good entry.
@shaolin-dave oh thanks for the fix! I was aware of it but had no clue how to fix it, thanks!
Looks like everything was already mentioned, the retry, difficulty, rope physics yada. So... Perfectly polished graphics and feel! Great submission!
Interesting game. The graphics and music are laconic, but pleasant. The gameplay is interesting, albeit challenging. It reminded me of the geometry dash. I want to see it on my phone.
Loved the minimalist design and game feel. It's a great entry. I do agree with some comments on the faster replay thing but I saw that you fixed it in the post jam version. Nice tutorial as well. Damn the game is hard tho but it's a good thing.
This game is really good, but extremely challenging. running into thin platforms near the start of a level made it really hard for me to progress past the first few jumps most of the time. Overall great entry!
After Dying 15 times I had a highscore of 23,06! Funny Game
Clean everything, very simple but executed perfectly, sticks to its basics but has the polished. The game is super hard from the get go when you start a run. Maybe a easier curve at the start of the run with larger blocks and less ropes would improve the experience for the average user. Audio on point too gg
I feel like @reiqy said my review  Thanks for letting me play!
Cool game, very polished, nice design, interesting progression. I agree with the others, it was quite annoying how long you needed to wait to restart. But that's of course nothing big to change. But because of this, I couldn't experience much of the game because I was too bad (21.87 highscore, well well!). I really liked the tutorial, maybe it would've been cool if the game were in hand-built levels instead of this random generation. Or better: both!
Really challenging. Love and hate this game both :)
good, but grappling is hard
Gosh this is hard ! I only manage to go a little bit over 40. I had fun to play your game, great physic, love the minimalist art style and music set the mood well. Congrats !
Very tough, but very fun. Really great take on the theme too and very polished. Also, it's so nerve wracking when everything flips colour - it's great haha!
I am a huge fan of this game. The simplicity of the graphics doesn't take away from the amazing visuals and presentation. The sound is clean, I like the way sound effects and music work with the game. The mechanics are very fun to play with, and the game is hard in a good way! Even the menu looks great.
The only thing I'd ask for is that the rope swing a bit easier when you touch it so it feels smoother and less like a wall, but that is a personal opinion!
Yeah like a lot of the other comments, this game is hard but in a good way. Makes you want to go back and try and perfect the swings and timing on the jumps.
This game is really fun! It takes a basic concept and builds it out fully and really well. Very polished. Great work! :)
Really needs a quick restart button like R for instant restart. Gets a little frusturating when you die after 2 seconds and have to wait 3 second to restart everytime :D
Fun to play but a little hard for me. Good Job .
@yhata if you download the post-jam update that is what it features.
Cool game I like the physics based games (we made one too). The platforming was so solid! I had a bit of difficulty on the ropes but with more time I learned a bit. I would have liked a quicker retry loop something short like flappy bird's retry would have had me more hooked that I am. Good entry!
Overall really fun and I'd totally waste time on this game. That being said, a few kinks stopped me from having too much fun. Some jumps were really hard to hit well, which in the grand scheme of things would probably be ok if there was some sort of ramp difficulty. Also the ropes sometimes felt unfair.
Overall I really liked it :)
So hard for me, I love runner but a really bad with the ropes. I said when a touch 50. "one run and I stop", 20 runs later didn't beat 50 :p
very clean and great game! Little issues with the physics of the ropes but maybe I'm just bad ^^
Pretty challenging, but fun. Good Job!
I think the only issue I had was with the ropes. Would have been nice to release and go through them to keep moving forward. I kept getting blocked by them instead. I realize that's just because I'm bad, but might have helped people keep playing to grind for high scores.
Other than that, really great job! The post processing is right on the border of being too much but I think it's still good where you have it.
Great job! I love how simple but effective the visuals are! It is a little difficult, but that's actually my favorite kind of game!!! I ended up only doing like 4 rounds and got my score to 21!
@r3l0ad1 Here's my game code so you can play it! Thank you for offering to! ;) ldj.am/$259844
Very fun and challenging game, the visuals and sound are very good. It really has BIG potential.
Really really enjoyable! The respawn is a bit too long, but the gameplay is smooth, the art is minimalistic but pleasant, and the music is nice as well! Good work!
Really nice game! I had hard time on the rope, but eventually I figured it out :) Good job :)
i like the minimalist visuals!
my high score was a meager 24.88.
i think the platforms were cool, but i didn't like the ropes very much. it took me a while to figure out i had to hold down space to stick to them, and even then, i didn't feel like i had any control. i died plenty of times when the rope didn't have enough momentum to swing me to the next platform. when this game is all about twitch reflexes, not having (or feeling like i had) control for random obstacles that come up, which cost me the run, was frustrating.
for this kind of game, i think an unstable environment is great, but not unstable player control.
or, maybe there's a secret to dealing with the ropes that i just didn't figure out?
minor UX note: it would have been really great to have the menu buttons controllable with arrows and space bar, or at least have a short cut to press space to retry on the score scene. i really wanted to have a seamless experience of trying runs over and over, but needing to switch to the mouse to click retry was annoying.
Very solid entry! Frustratingly hard (but in a good way) only suggestions I have are a way to more quickly restart and to tweak the randomization, I am pretty sure that some of the jumps I was given were not possible  Good work!
Couldn't get very far, the ropes kept killing me! But it looks very polished and was fun to play.
Ahh, Thomas Was ~~Alone~~ Unstable!
Everything this game has is great. You even fixed the slow restart issue. This has style, pace, nice visuals and sound, it's challenging but fair, *and* it's infinite, it even has a tutorial, nothing to complain about!
I think that what would improve this game and take it to the next level would be some sense of diversity and progression: perhaps, the further you get, the more mechanics you unlock along the way — ropes might start at 30m, falling ropes at 50m, then ropes made of distinct chain links, glass walls you have to smash through with momentum, cannons that shoot you forward, more and more stuff. Maybe visual cosmetic differences, too: starting from different accent color each run all the way to simple geometric backdrops, ”zones“ of structures and scenery being devoured by the anomaly in the background...
That's all just random ideas for potential future improvements, of course. As an LD entry, this is already phenomenal, great job!
@13x666 thanks for playing! and thanks for all of those suggestions! they are amazing and i will definitely be looking into doing the progressive progression system. thanks :D
Loved the black/white aesthetic and take on the theme! I also liked that gameplay was quick to get into and restart. I was about to comment on the arrow key controls, and tutorial soft lock, but seems like you fixed it in the post jam version. Good job!
Yes it really is very frustrating game)) some of the moments of generation is simply unrealistic or just incredibly difficult. But in general the game is very nice, graphics, dynamics, sounds, everything is good)
How can something so simple be so challenging? I confess that I didn't do very well, despite having tried so hard. I loved this "glow" that I don't know the name that looks like an old TV image and the music helps in the tension mood.
Congratulations!
The graphics look so good, everything has really cool effects and smoothness. Good physics and gameplay too! Simple, yet engaging. Great entry!
Very good visual effects, but too difficult ah. Often blocked by the rope and then fall down
I know there is a note about quick restarts via space in the description. But it doesn't seem to work. Fun game otherwise.
Very pleasing aesthetically. The chromatic abbreviation never seezes to amaze me and the Audio was on point. I like these kind of games that you just get instantly how they are supposed to be played. Good work!
@nobleboy the space to restart only works in the new post-jam version

Ropes felt frustrating to interact with... so I tried the tutorial, since I'd just jumped straight in. Ropes then made a little more sense, went back in the main game, still struggled. Even if you can swing them, it doesn't really help if you're stuck on one side of it because you landed too high... maybe make the player slide to the bottom of the rope to avoid getting tangled in it?
Other than that, seems like a fun high score platformer. I'd have kept playing if the ropes didn't feel so sticky. Almost every run I had was ended by a rope...
Amazing game!I had a lot of fun! Good job!
Super polished look and gameplay! Amazing job!
Was so much fun! Awesome Job!
Looks awesome and very polished! I'd suggest making the level restart much faster. Too many transitions and animations that are getting in the way of dying quickly. Sometimes I spent more time on the restart screen than in the game. Otherwise great game!
I'm addicted to this game! The graphics are sleek and the sound design is perfect! Some of the rope physics felt weird, but overall this game was fantastic. Super well done!!! :D
awesome work, realy fun in game : )
The graphics / UI are really polished, this is a great entry. I only wish the player wouldn't collide with the ropes, because that makes chaining jumps between ropes almost impossible (even jumping safely out of a rope is hard).
Controlls feel really good. Music and sounds are very fitting as well. Really quite difficult and for the amount of times you die the respawn is really a tad slow. (As pointed out by quite a few people already) But overall i'd call this a success. Nicely done. Keep it up.
Game is really cool, controls feels nice. I'm not much into this type of aesthetics but this is totally my personal taste. My only complain is that it could restart quicker after death. Top game here, congrats.
Oh wow ! This is quit polished! The concept is so simple but really well done! It's pretty fun, I surprised myself trying to beat my highscores for 15 full minutes! Scored a little 61.5 points, but it was fun!
Awesome entry!
This gives serious Pony Island vibes.
Cool graphic style! Finally get a 45 seconds high score, the rope is too hard to speed up, always dead on that...!QQ截图20211016024116.png
The game looks and sounds great, but the controls feel a bit too off for me to play. Still an amazing and fun concept though!
Really fun game! I liked how polished it felt. Personally I really dislike the chromatic aberration effect I've seen a lot in this jam - it hurts my eyes and is distracting. An option to turn that off would be nice.
Nice work! :)
Good job! The game looks amazing
I've had issues with jumps not aligning properly to the next platforms and so, I wish there was finer mid air controls (like variable height jumping, i feel like it would fit really well for this game)
Minimalistic platformer! I am always a big fan of minimalism! good game!
Very clean entry well done. The jumps felt great and so did the feedback on the landing. I think it would help having a jump off of the rope and an instant restart, other than that awesome job!
just well done. Again a proof that graphics can be simple and also perfect at same time. My only struggle was on maintain and release space for ropes.
Really well done, GG !
Aaaahh, I feel this is so close to something super satisfying but not quite there. The core mechanic is a great idea, it just doesn't feel as tight as games like this tend to do, where you don't even have to let go of the run button if you get the flow just right—but I'm probably a bit rubbish at the game too! 😅 Sounds and looks nice. Wish I could navigate the menu with the keyboard too. Maybe automatically grab ropes as long as I hit them? Can definitely turn into something really slick post-jam!
Nice, very clean. I wish restarting was a bit easier/quicker (a hotkey maybe?) I also felt that the anomaly was going as fast as my top speed? Might have been me being garbage but it felt like there was zero room for error and any columns placed too close ate into my lead. Very well made otherwise!
Great game! Agree with others that the restart time could be quicker since I died quite a lot, but the game itself was fun to play, had a slick aesthetic style, good audio and cool effects. Very good work!
I love the graphics and mood, makes everything feel super polished
Nice simple idea with lots of polish, I can't add anything that hasn't already been said :)
amazing game. will you release the soundtrack? it's so good. (edit:oh, he music is on github, thanks!)
I hate this game. 10/10
