LD39 — Running out of Power

Don't let running out of power by dcrdro 2017-08-13T18:41:16Z

The controls were kinda floaty and some of the enemies felt unfair. The fast monster seems almost impossible to catch, and when another monster shows up while you're dealing with a fat monster it can feel too hard to deal with them both. That being said, it's a complete game which is more than a lot of people can say!

Planet Salzex by Dragojt 2017-08-13T18:20:04Z

It was certainly entertaining enough to make me want to play through the whole thing. I really liked all the graphics and sound. There's a lot of polish here, especially for a game jam. That being said, while the foreground objects looked neat, they were really infuriating during gameplay. Also, the walk back after getting the final ship piece was kind of boring. Just a little more gameplay testing/polish would make this that much better. One of the most polished games I've seen this jam.

Orbiting Home by Zeknir 2017-08-04T03:33:35Z

I found this game hard to get into, but I was very impressed at the amount of polish for a game jam game. All the menus and UI and such look smooth and professional.

President of Zorga by gimbalock 2017-08-04T03:01:42Z

Seems really interesting, but it's just too hectic for me to play properly. I get overwhelmed real quick. Nice funny graphics!

God Has A Torch by SymphonicPink 2017-07-31T04:18:40Z

Nice well-constructed little platformer, but I don't think the flashlight mechanic really adds much. Being out of light doesn't really make anything harder.

Probably A Capable Rhythm Game by New Sock Smell 2017-08-01T02:10:54Z

I really like this one a lot! The music just makes me unable to not smile at the game.

Times New Robots by Alex Tantum 2017-08-04T03:24:36Z

I can't figure out what the left-click shooting is supposed to do or how to get enough batteries. It feels like there are more robots than I know how to handle. I really like the models and music though!

The attack of Dr.Evil by PhasedEvolution 2017-08-01T01:46:39Z

Some of the instructions are unclear. I don't really get what my goal is, even after reading the clarifying comments. I also tend to feel overwhelmed with all the stuff I'm supposed to deal with at any one time.

Overshadowed Road by ZoeAgxn 2017-08-13T18:33:26Z

This is a potentially solid little endless runner being dragged down a lot by a few issues. First, the controls are way too sensitive. If the player's movement works in lanes, I think the best way to control it would be such that a single tap left or right moves a single lane. No more, no less. As it is moving one lane over is tricky when it feels like it really shouldn't be. The second problem is the screen-clearing mechanic. Once the buildings turn green once, you can completely avoid all obstacles by just mashing the space bar and collecting batteries, which is much too easy. The game becomes trivial when all the obstacles are gone.

Those problems really heavily pull the game down, but everything else is really nice. The graphics are appealing and the music fits well enough. I would encourage you to fix those issues I mentioned above and see how it plays, because I think it's be a lot of fun.

BoilerMan by Wekaj 2018-08-13T03:22:30Z

Yeah it's real confusing figuring out how to play this.

Crash the Party by Kevin Prehn 2018-08-14T02:43:12Z

I can't seem to get this to work. I'm pressing X on the title screen but nothing's happening. :\

EDIT: Literally the moment I post this it works for some reason. Just ignore me haha.

Crash the Party by Kevin Prehn 2018-08-14T02:52:15Z

I like this game! The writing is amusing and the sound provides a good mood to the game. I couldn't figure out where to go after I got the calculator but what I did play was good.

There is Never Enough Space!!! by Jamie Rollo 2018-08-13T02:53:24Z

I love the art! It's really nice. The timers on these challenges are brutal though. I had to try to clear a path several times.

Put What Where? by Joe Miller 2018-08-14T01:28:20Z

This one is pretty engaging. Gives me the same kind of "planning/filling space" feel as Tetris with totally different mechanics.

Return to Garbage World by mrjorts 2018-08-13T04:54:16Z

I found the dials a little confusing at first. I kinda thought that the two circles represented 2 planets for some reason. Once I figured that out, though, this was a fun little lunar lander game!

The Game Collector by Sebastian-M 2018-08-15T01:05:52Z

Fun little game. I honestly think the music is the best thing here. Something about it is just really cool.

VCR STAR by erebus 2018-08-14T03:16:43Z

This game is so weird I love it. I love the art and the voice acting it's all just so dumb and wonderful. I wish the controls weren't so weird - they're awkward enough that I can't find it in me to even start trying to do the actual goals, but this game is worth it for the assets alone.

Sky Dare by zchangvx 2018-08-14T03:26:37Z

I wish I didn't have to mash the click button and destroy my finger. I also wish getting hit didn't freeze me for so long and make it so easy to get hit again.

Crawling Dungeon by RandomErik 2018-08-13T03:46:24Z

Graphics are really pretty. I'm confused on why you can't shoot up without locking in place though. That gets kind of annoying pretty quick.

Too Much Post by Thomas den Hollander 2018-08-13T02:17:34Z

The game seems to get really hard really quickly. I like the music though!

SpaceRunner by jackou 2018-08-15T00:23:26Z

Pretty good game! The first level at least is in this "sweetspot" where it's hard enough to collect everything that it feels satisfying but no so hard that I want to quit. The second level seemed a little bit more overwhelming with the branching paths, as I don't know which path will have what, but it's stil lfun to play. Nice job!

Delusional Thoughts by aCuriosity 2018-08-13T02:20:33Z

The song is a cute touch.

Boy saves local beachfront arcade from aggressive mannequins by throwing stones by Nick Girardo 2018-08-13T02:43:32Z

What the heck is the title of this game supposed to be haha.

LD44 — Your life is currency

dunkin' dogoos by Karai17 2019-05-20T06:06:07Z

This game is really cute! The camera is really the biggest damper on the experience right now though.

Taco King by benjamin 2019-05-20T06:26:46Z

This is amazing! Each of the individual minigames is as polished as I would expect any ludum dare game to be! All that on top of a nice framing game around them. I'm genuinely floored at how complete this game feels.

Amazing job.

And Then There Was One by one-seed-fruit 2019-05-20T05:29:57Z

Yeah I truly have no idea what's going on here. I do honestly think the graphics look pretty neato though.

Gravy Train by pkenney 2019-05-20T07:13:04Z

This game has by far the most fun core gameplay loop I've seen in any of the games I've played so far this time around. And the time spent on the SFX was well worth it. I also loved the twist at the end. Made me feel guilty.

Amazing job!

Odd Jobs on a Day in Summer by spudboy 2019-05-20T18:10:34Z

@psiv I highly recommend looking into Doodle Studio 95 if you're interested in a style like this. It's the really fun Unity tool I used to make all the art.

Special Steak by Nalozyc Shade 2019-05-20T05:41:04Z

Pretty fun! My favorite minigame is the chicken one. I just wish the orders came in a little faster at first.

Coin Up! by egawag 2019-05-20T06:47:32Z

Really fun game! The audio is so charming :)

Soulbound by Dovakla 2019-05-20T05:36:46Z

Woah this is really cool! Obviously there's some quirks in the implementation but the idea alone seems awesome, and what you did manage to make does a great job at conveying that core mechanic. Nice job!

PARASTICK by Stevannus Lake 2019-04-30T03:52:16Z

This game is really hard! I couldn't ever get past around 30m-ish.

Your Life is Currency by nanocube75 2019-04-30T04:53:23Z

Game's pretty hard! I got up to 259 kills and 8 upgrades. The voices are amusing.

The value of your life? by DarkShinobi100 2019-04-30T14:31:10Z

Link seems dead.

Acculting by Regoradin 2019-04-30T06:16:30Z

I like this a lot more than I thought I would. The gameplay is deeply simple but also super engrossing. My biggest complaint is I wish the "you died" screen told you how many followers you had at the end (possibly including your net worth at that moment if you cashed out at your death).

Horde Defence by Lemon 2019-04-30T14:53:08Z

Windows version works fine.

LD49 — Unstable

Waiter Extraordinaire by LeviDSmith 2021-10-04T04:37:55Z

It can be tricky to figure out which table is missing the last couple unserved guests, but perhaps that's part of the fun. Not a bad jam game overall.

Wordquake by phi 2021-10-04T19:24:30Z

This one is great! Making words with the remnants of previous words you made is honestly super cool. The graphics were excellent and the music was good too.

Awesome job!

Leave Me Alone by crazyrems 2021-10-17T20:20:12Z

I liked the art, and the little intro tutorial screen was simple and effective, a good piece of polish.

That being said it's waaaaaay too hard. If you miss once it seems like you're completely doomed. I couldn't manage to get very far even if I successfully hit objects. Compounding all this is how long it shows me the black hole every restart. I don't need to be shown the black hole every single time, I'm aware it's there. Let me get back to the game.

EDIT: Ok on a hunch I turned my 144Hz monitor down to refresh at 60Hz and the black hole was much slower this time! Somehow the speed of the black hole is framerate-dependant.

I still think you should make the restart animation shorter or nonexistent, and I'd echo the desire to know how far away the black hole is, but overall a pretty fun game once I worked out the technical issue 😅

Unstable Caves by notime4games 2021-10-17T21:41:20Z

It's really unfortunate that you ran out of time on this. With a few more levels and a little more polish (animations or at least looking left 😛) this could be really good I think.

I will say, it's a little unclear how exactly the supporting systems work. I was usually not quite sure specifically which blocks would fall when I mined a tile or removed a support.

Overall, good start.

II-III-V by miziziziz 2021-10-04T03:59:14Z

The typing section was kind of a weird detour but I liked the game a lot overall. Not sure I followed the plot besides "radioactive zombies bad" though haha. I wish I could hold left click to "brake" myself.

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-06T03:51:23Z

Making an NES game for Ludum Dare is rad. I think honestly the biggest thing that would improve it would be just more things to turn into! Good job :)

Instability by R3L0ad1 2021-10-04T03:16:31Z

Really stylish visuals, but the difficulty felt like it was tuned a bit too high for me. My High score was 20.0

Unstable Flight of a Potato by Lerg 2021-10-11T02:10:17Z

I had a lot of fun with it but gave up after a while. Sooo haaard ;_;

Still, great job!

Frogmented World by spudboy 2021-10-07T02:59:51Z

@hellequinne Basically the original idea was more plot-based in regards to the theme. A character from a pixel platformer would find his video game world glitching more and more and would have to use the glitches to solve levels.

The mechanic in the game turned out to be the most fun glitch I could think of and I figured putting work into the plot elements (writing, coding a system to display text in a nice-looking way, etc.) would be too much time that I could spend making the rest of the game good. Just prioritized the part that seemed fun haha.

Frogmented World by spudboy 2021-10-08T06:13:49Z

@hellequinne I realized after playing your game that your team's entry is something very much like my initial idea I described haha. Funny coincidence there.

Hatchling's Adventure by Talia 2021-10-06T23:26:43Z

I feel like this would be a lot better if the camera was zoomed out a bit. There were a couple points in the game where you just have to blindly jump to something offscreen.

I also found the little "edges" that kept appearing between your tiles. There are ways to fix that.

Despite these nitpicks though, it was a good experience overall. Nice job.

Unstable Magicks by Untitled Studios 2021-10-05T02:29:55Z

Pretty good overall. It was quite confusing to work out how to read the cursor to know when I could cast, but once I did cycling between the spells was fun.

I wish it showed your score after you died! I was somewhere between 20 and 30 points but not paying that much specific attention to it.

Landslide by Reef 2021-10-05T02:24:05Z

Good solid platforming. I got a score of 262. If there's some way to tell where the rocks are gonna fall, I don't know what it is.

Duck Optimizer Pro 2021 by unplugred 2021-10-11T07:40:22Z

The puzzles here are... a little inscrutable. And the music game at the end took several tries because my ear for notes felt pretty questionable.

Game has a lot of charm and I think I enjoyed it overall but it's also very frustrating

BLOOPS! by jitspoe 2021-10-08T06:05:41Z

Pretty fun! Some of the physics seemed... fidgety. I'm wondering if that could be solved by applying some kind of smooth speed towards the mouse rather than what seems to just be going straight for it? But maybe that's the point idk. I also found it really difficult to stack anything higher than the sides of the bucket haha. Too hard for me, perhaps :P

Overall though, definitely a fun one to play. The sounds were a high point.

Unstable_Alpha_Quest by Dustin Brown 2021-10-04T03:48:55Z

Really cute use of the theme!

I liked it overall, although I wasn't a fan of how repetitive it got by the end. At one point I mistyped the command you need to kill the boss, but didn't realize it till I got an error when I would have killed it (and I'm lucky I got the reference for the error tbh). Also I wish I could input multiple commands without having to re-click the input box.

I'm pointing out a lot of nitpicks here but I really did like it a lot overall 🙂

Wilson's Lab by Nebrazif 2021-10-07T03:33:26Z

Played it on Android. Great job making a phone game for Lufum Dare. The background art is nice. The length of the restart animation is a problem, but other folks have said that already.

Un-Named Stock Market Battle Simulator by sacredbacon 2021-10-08T05:35:02Z

I really don't understand how this game works at all :(

I just hit buttons and lost money, which I guess is a lot like real day trading.

How (Not) To Defuse Bombs by Reiqy 2021-10-17T20:34:17Z

A fun little puzzle for what it is. I think some kind of explosion VFX or SFX when the bomb explodes would really enhance the game, but I get that compo time restrictions are hard to work with 🙂

Bitrot by Maxathon 2021-10-08T06:12:54Z

The platforming and actual gameplay left something to be desired, with the player physics feeling kind of weird. Also the game seemed to end kind of... abruptly?

That being said, the graphics and audio were really good! I love the general vibe of "glitching game" you all managed to capture. Good job!

Falling Tower by Simpathey 2021-10-08T06:00:32Z

I think this one is really good! It took me playing through once to realize that everything would unfreeze at the end, and getting a tower that doesn't immediately fall apart seems really hard (and also seems like it'd take a lot of luck) - my best score was 5 block 3.71 seconds, which is... not great lol. The clicking is very hectic but in a pretty good way I think. I also really liked the vibe of the music. Great job!

Cool by KewDev 2021-10-08T05:52:44Z

Pretty simple game. Sometimes the physics and player movement feel a little bit wonky. I don't see how you can safely grab a powerup without falling into the void or knocking your platform over.

emoceans by ty_ 2021-10-08T05:27:22Z

Got bored and decided I was done at 110 seconds. Very simple, but cute for what it is. Nice job :)

Critical Mass by Parker Nalch 2021-10-08T05:39:46Z

Got 35,248 as my score. The mechanic is neat and the graphics are appealing, if simple. I also particularly liked how the music was slow or fast to match the ship. Great job!

(btw, there's a glitch where you can increase your score after you die by mashing overdrive lol)

Incomplete Horse Nonsense by Harrison Dunn 2021-10-04T19:34:09Z

This take on the "unstable" theme is hilarious. So is "neigh, motherfucker."

Pretty fun to play, although I realized you could do pretty well by just ignoring the horses and moving diagonally to make distance between yourself and the chaser whenever he gets too close. Got a high score of 60 this way!

Also, it says you can upload high scores on the download version, but I only see a web version available.

Overall fun to play and funny!

Eldritch Horse by Knipsch 2021-10-08T05:43:55Z

This was hilarious. Really good use on the theme haha. The gameplay it self is nothing to write home about, but everything else here is great. I wish the camera followed you better when you get going really fast.

Unstable Sweeping by tyin 2021-10-04T03:20:18Z

Your itch.io link 404s for me 😦 I think that would happen if you have the page as a draft on itch. Maybe make sure it's published?

Life on Cards by Lumbigui 2021-10-04T04:45:09Z

Fun little reigns-em-up. Cute art! It's unfortunate when you get like 3 destabilized cards in a row, but I guess that's just life sometimes lol.

Luna's Painful Pastel Promenade by GuessImLuna 2021-10-04T04:25:27Z

Big "Getting Over It" vibes, obviously. Didn't make it through, called it quits partway through the section introducing the green blocks.

There are some falls that I think veer more towards "unnecessarily tedious" than Getting Over It ever does, but overall a good game jam version of evoking the same vibes.

It is rainy by DeltaMain 2021-10-04T19:16:57Z

I really like the art on this one! Just has a good vibe to it.

I feel like the minigames for collecting the data are just too hard to actually get right. I also thing an ambient rain sound would have gone a long way in terms of mood.

Hot nucleus by c64cosmin 2021-10-06T23:36:33Z

Got a high score of 1024. I like the slow feeling of ramping pressure, good job on that.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Tentris by bentglasstube 2022-10-16T03:47:18Z

Subtly different from Tetris but definitely different enough to be interesting. Really solid implementation of Tetris as a baseline too! Good job! The one thing I wish I had is ghost pieces to show where your hard drop will go.

My high score is 9448 with 29 lines on level 3, Trusty mode.

Art School by Tattomoosa 2022-10-16T04:27:44Z

I hacked into the [ARTGENIUS] servers but their algorithm is too complicated for me to replicate.

Celestial Survivors by candlesan 2022-10-18T07:02:22Z

This may be my favorite one I've played this time around. Core gameplay is solid but it's everything being on-beat (or the offbeat :D) that makes this just viscerally satisfying to play. Amazing job!

Teleporter Malfunc-ten by glenugie 2022-10-16T05:01:25Z

Interesting game. Cool to see a ludum dare game properly support controllers! Made it through 67 teleports!

Back Alley Quality Assurance by maxr00 2022-10-03T18:49:04Z

why do they gotta throw the card in smh

Really like this one! The instructions were pretty funny which is a nice touch.

Baseball Kid & The Nightmare Dimension by Untitled Studios 2022-10-17T05:28:57Z

Wow so polished! Good music and art. Touches of hitfreeze and intro voiceover really makes it stand out for a jam game. Well done!

10seq by BrettSchiff 2022-10-03T18:23:17Z

I like that it's a teeny tiny version of what I'd want out of a groundhog day game. Really cool stuff!

It's a Sliding Puzzle by acdimalev 2022-10-17T01:19:14Z

Sliding puzzles like this hurt my brain under normal circumstances, and the jump every 10 seconds doesn't help haha. Still super cool that you made a gameboy game for this. Well done!

Deca-second by aa4z2 2022-10-19T03:33:05Z

I don't really understand how the enemy AI works, which is unfortunate cause I'm pretty sure you need to understand how the enemy AI works to play the game properly.

Hyper V-Ball by Mooptychunk 2022-10-18T05:58:33Z

Incredibly polished, but the controls feel so awkward to me the game was basically unplayable :(

Neon Speed Gauntlet by Empty Set 2022-10-18T06:52:26Z

The player controller is so close to feeling *really* good. I think just making the player feel faster overall would do a lot to make this game feel super satisfying.

Robotbotbot by alpharock6 2022-10-17T05:40:58Z

Doesn't seem to work on Firefox but I booted it up in Edge and it ran fine. Fun stuff! I wish the walkspeed was a little faster but I get that's the only way to really make 10 second loops work properly. Overall a neat use of the theme, and the character art is cute :)

I demand my secret ending prize!

Memory mini game. by Geo3D 2022-10-18T06:46:30Z

When I was in fullscreen it was super common for clicks on icons to just not register. Besides that, a pretty decent memory game with a good selection of icons.

METAHACK by Tetane 2022-10-19T03:43:38Z

Pretty fun, pretty well polished. Just wish there were more levels :)

Croissant Quandry by maxwellpark 2022-10-19T04:28:29Z

Starting with the invisible debuff on first playing was very confusing lol. Overall, a neat little game. Decent platformer controls.

No Man's Land by dodgergram 2022-10-17T01:10:55Z

Pretty good overall. Reminded me a little bit of Super Crate Box.

The Bear's Drunken Adventure by crbotnari 2022-10-18T06:07:26Z

Feels very "first game," but if that is the case, nice job, and congrats :) Hope you continue to get better at making games :)

Sunburn by Stefan Ciobanu 2022-10-19T03:49:32Z

It's pretty unclear to me which enemy is hurt by which obstacle. There's nothing that gave me an intuitive sense of what corresponds to what, and just straight up memorizing them dind't seem worth it.

Chicken Runner by PotatoGraphics 2022-10-16T03:36:50Z

SpaceEx: Interstellar by tangiblegames 2023-05-06T19:08:00Z

20230506_114801.jpg

Played on actual hardware!

In terms of polish this game is great. Everything feels *done* and has some nice art and sounds to go with it.

The controls... need work imo. Turning has way too much acceleration. I always either don't turn far enough or swing wildly past where I wanted to turn to. Would have been cool to get analog turning with the crank. (Using the crank for warp jump was neat though)

The front boosters are so weak as to be basically useless. I started succeeding a little more when I just pretended they didn't exist and always slowed down by

Either the asteroids are too densely packed or the camera needs to be zoomed out a lot. Also there were some gaps that I thought maybe I could squeeze through but were apparently slightly too thin, and immediately knocked my package down to 0% when I touched them (presumably from being knocked back and forth between two asteroids a bunch?)

Despite my complaints, I want to reiterate how nice and polished this game is. Very cool to see and hear, I just found it pretty frustrating to actually play.

Deliverey 2 (VR Only) by shadowbrain 2023-05-06T17:55:02Z

Always cool to see VR stuff for Ludum Dare! I feel obligated to vote on them as one of the few jammers with a VR setup :P

I kept watching to see where things landed (which seems like it should be part of the fun!) and then getting surprised when a new box appeared before I could finish watching. Maybe have some system where new packages will only show up if the player is looking in the general direction of the hatch or no other packages are still moving.

I was "KIWI" and "EEEE" on the leaderboard

Frogwarts Delivery Service by ildfuglen 2023-05-06T17:26:04Z

Nice little bullet hell game! Fun collection of bullet patterns. Showing the velocity arrows was a nice little touch to make things a little more comprehensible.

I will say that using the exact same projectile sound the whole time starts to wear on me a bit, and it becomes especially problematic when you get to patterns that fire a lot of bullets in succession.

The Giggle Pit by jelch 2023-05-06T17:12:32Z

Neat idea. 3 levels was too much for this though, especially with no changes between the gameplay in each level.

AMA Jo by AVAVT 2023-05-06T18:15:55Z

I really like the concept of this game but all the requirements for getting it set up just... seems like too much for me to get into. I'm not gonna install nodejs and install stuff in the command line just to play a game jam game 😅

Sorry! Good luck!

@firespike33 Haha yeah. Moving enemies and enemy damage feedback were two things I cut after realizing how much I was biting off having never made a first-person shooter from scratch before. I do kind of regret not adding the feedback but I was working right up to the wire and didn't feel like I had time 😅

Still, thanks for playing 🙂

@kierogi Sound effect for the player shooting was me dropping a large tape measure on my desk, put through some distortion filters in Audacity, overlaid with me making a popping sound with my mouth. I felt pretty good about that one :)

First of all, I notice you whenever you pop up in these jams, for obvious missing texture reasons :P, so it's cool to see you consistently putting stuff out. That's rad, keep it up!

Second, this is really good. Works just like a puzzle game should, where I slowly understand more and more of what the mechanics imply in terms of things you can do in puzzles. The graphics are clear, pretty much the only thing I would really want is maybe a number showing which level you're on.

Also, shout out to the audio! All the swapping sounds are chunky and satisfying and make me feel like I'm playing with mysterious contraptions of some sort, and than end of level sound (which sounds to be made of some kind of soda can opening recording?) is really satisfying too. The music doesn't get in the way or feel annoying.

Great job!

Nicely done! Cool puzzle mechanic and nice music. Level 13 was the hardest to me.

I loved it a lot. A breath of fresh air from what a "game jam game" usually is. Very... *human*.

Also lmao @frabjous-studios for the Captain Kirk stuff.

Great job! I love the way the little guy moves his arm to match your drawing :o

Really good haha. The ending felt a bit anticlimactic but I know how game jams are, only so much time to make stuff :P

The aesthetic is neat, but the cars burn out *way* too easily. Hard to take any turns at all.

Really nice stuff! Graphics are simple but look really good. Shooting feels satisfying from the little kick and the nice sound. My biggest complaint is that tracking down the last one or two mailboxes I missed took some time and wasn't that interesting.

Pretty hard at first but once I got the hang of the movement it wasn't so bad. Had some fun navigating between those rocks. I guess you get eaten at the end?

The music loop was short but it didn't get annoying, so props for that.

I think feedback here has already been covered by previous commenters: levels run a little long, restarting from the very beginning is a pain, etc.

All that said, not bad for a first ludum dare! I'm sure you'll make better and better stuff in the future!

Nice little game. Took me a couple seconds to figure out what to do but once I did it was pretty self-explanatory. I think the difficulty ramps up a bit too quickly. Once you have overlapping delivery zones things get out of hand pretty quickly. I think it would be better if you made sure the delivery zones didn't overlap, honestly.

I would also say that the zones should light up or something to show that you've successfully put a box on them, and the level should end early if you fill all the zones.

Finished at round 7
