I love the concept! It was fun recording poems and listening to other people's acting

crimoudin 2023-05-02 01:01

Very interesting concept. I wasn't quite sure what I was doing until after I guessed someone else's. You should have had an example readback/guess to start so it was more clear what people would be doing with the audio after you finished recording.

bo-dangles 2023-05-02 01:03

This is a really cool one. The way you came up with saving sessions and audio files is really smart.

Fun and unique!

realwangziyang 2023-05-02 01:05

It's a great idea to explain "delivery" in such a innovative way! It's quite interesting to hearing others reading the same poems with me in a different vibe. Also a good tool for English learning ^_^

swordofblood 2023-05-02 01:08

Interesting concept

ferellia 2023-05-02 01:12

I like this take on the theme! I definitely felt a strong preference for guessing over recording.

pralista 2023-05-03 11:23

Interesting concept! Got nervous and awkward with my own recording at first (because English is not my native language), but after trying several times somehow I got more confident :) It's funny how the same words can have different vibes when talked in a different way

khaotom 2023-05-05 03:17

Excellent. A bit out of my comfort zone, but I still gave it a shot and enjoyed delivering! It is a very unique take on the theme. :tropical_drink:

madbarron 2023-05-05 04:35

Thanks for all the feedback!

@crimoudin that's a great idea to start off by listening. I will definitely implement that in a post-jam version. For now I have added more information to this page to help folks out :)

Thanks for playing everybody and cheers to @khaotom for making it to the end 👏🏻

frabjous-studios 2023-05-06 01:37

This is such a cool idea!!! I will play it.

EDIT: Loved every minute of this. I apologize in advance for pretending to be Captain Kirk.

EDIT2: Er... not in advance, I guess.

untitled-studios 2023-05-06 15:51

Brilliant. Absolutely, incredibly, brilliant. I have a particular interest in writing, performance, and games, and this fantastic and innovative intersection of those things is positively wonderful. First of all: the implementation. I have no idea how difficult this would have been to create, and I certainly have no idea where I would start on a project like this. Kudos to this excellent and bug-free execution of this difficult concept. And *oh* the concept: a game about empathy, and about performance? I've genuinely never seen anything like it. This is exploring new avenues of gameplay that I've never seen explored before. I loved listening to how the words in each poem could reflect entirely different meanings on the poem depending on how it was read, and I love how I could 'get to know' my fellow readers, understanding their styles and how they would read in each different tone. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

spudboy 2023-05-06 23:47

I loved it a lot. A breath of fresh air from what a "game jam game" usually is. Very... *human*.

spudboy 2023-05-06 23:48

Also lmao @frabjous-studios for the Captain Kirk stuff.

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-07 02:30

This is superb. Such a cool idea! I feel like this belongs in an art gallery or something

ardorugus 2023-05-07 03:30

Deep and intelligent. Love the concept. Gonna check this one more with me vox mic.

yuriscat 2023-05-07 06:11

This game has a novel concept that really caught my attention. I never expected to see such a work, it's really amazing.

addaellis 2023-05-08 04:43

Super interesting interpretation on delivery and just a great activity. It really showcases the nuances in the performance-- pauses, tones, emphases on particular words-- and after a few it really helps highlight what _makes_ each vibe and how each performer adds their own spin I could easily see this being used in an acting or literature class (or you know, just for fun! XD)

Shoutout to Kiera, your performances were so clear. Also @frabjous-studios XDXD the first time I heard it i thought you were using the log as a way of like setting a tone. It was funny XD

cureja 2023-05-08 18:23

Amazing!! I really loved the game. This is a really clean execution on the theme and I hope more poems are added. Maybe a percentage of how many people got your own right and a recording right would be cool as well. One of my favourites from the jam! Would love to be able to send my friends my recordings as well or/and have a maybe a personal bank of attempts with the different tones. (I am moop hehe)

teddyreid 2023-05-08 18:49

This is an incredible bit of work, and a *genius* interpretation of the theme.

Visually there is obviously not much to go on - but it's a very nice bit of web design. Very clean.

The poem choices were very good. When I woke up this morning I didn't think I'd be doing a rendition of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, that's for sure!

My pick of the jam - easily, and my only 5 star rating!

I am so deeply sorry for shitting up your game with my frankly embarrassing voice acting 🤣

meepy 2023-05-08 21:05

loved this one so much holy moly, my favorite interpretation of the delivery theme. simple idea that rounded out into a fantastic game. good choice of poems and clean interface. more fun than i could have ever imagined! everyone's deliveries were top notch too :D

i do think that the line between curious, playful, and whimsical is a bit blurry and those were the vibes i definitely mixed up the most often when listening to other people's recordings. i also wish that i could redo some of my first recordings... ;_;

i hope that you'll add more levels ^^

link270 2023-05-12 03:58

Really cool idea! had a good time. Nice work!

yetiryan 2023-05-12 05:21

Critique: The emotions should not be so similar. Whimsical VS playful? Sorry everyone! And sorry I did pump this a bit too hard before this edit and it was in poor taste. I am excited about our project and appreciate that people are enjoying it too.

rolly 2023-05-14 15:01

I am impressed by how unique and innovative this game is. Additionally, while the theme has some straightforward interpretations, the one you chose is quite intricate. You have earned five stars from me in both categories!

I also wanted to mention that I shared your game with some of my friends to spread the excitement.

Nothing much to add, fantastic job!

david-yates 2023-05-15 09:27

Very clever theme interpretation. I had a lot more fun with this than I was initially expecting to! It was great fun reading these poems and listening to all the different accents and deliveries of other players.

On another note, today is the 136th anniversary of the death of Emily Dickinson. RIP

dk5000p 2023-05-17 16:04

Very unique game and was interesting listening to the different takes. Great interpretation of the theme delivery.

david-yates 2023-05-17 16:46

On the victory page, where it says how many times your vibe has been guessed, will it also say how many times it's been guessed incorrectly? Uncertain if I'm inscrutable or just haven't come up yet. :p

madbarron 2023-05-18 00:09

@david-yates Currently it only shows successes. I guess you'll just have to get all your friends to play

eriku 2023-05-19 23:22

Interesting take on the theme delivery. It requires a lot of the performer to deliver the nuance, and some of the deliveries were questionable. Overall, good job.

madbarron 2023-05-20 15:10

 HUGE thanks to everyone who played and left feedback. I didn't know what the reception would be so I am very grateful for all the kind words

@eriku Thanks! I was surprised by the level of challenge in recording the poems. Do you have any ideas for dealing with "questionable" recordings? I have removed a handful of recordings from folks who were clearly not trying, but I'm not sure how to balance the experience of the recorder with that of the listener in terms of content moderation.

I want to thank each of you for sharing a thought on our project. Your performances, your reactions, and your inspired input caught me off guard and honestly touched me.

If you would like to receive an email when the game is updated, please send us a message at mc@versesandvibes.org and bookmark www.versesandvibes.org/

I would like to share a personal story and some of my thoughts on where I would like to take this. Over the past year, I have started therapy and I have been in the process of learning so much about anxiety, ASD, ADHD, BPD, and other "neurospicy" conditions as they may relate to myself, my therapy, and diagnosed friends and loved ones. Even after reading books and having professionals tell me things soberly, it ultimately took this experience. Listening to your voices and seeing the prompts helped me finally understand just how impaired my auditory emotional processing and expression is. In particular how my anxiety really does make me think people are mad or upset when they aren't. I am passionate about spreading awareness because of the enormous and wonderful changes that that have taken root in my life. The fact that performance and my love of poetry played a small role in this story brings me so much joy.

With so many good ideas we have a lot to sort through, and thankfully no shortage of amazing and diverse public domain content to make episodes. My sincere hope is that in the process of building this into something bigger, cleaner, and making the game more fun, maybe just maybe a few of you might learn about yourselves too. That would mean a lot to me.

@yetiryan bookmarked. Keep the good work up! It's very insightful project.
