I enjoyed this one, really nice to see something a bit different!

ziggdev 2022-04-06 19:02

Think the idea of the game is interesting and the graphics were really nice i felt player interaction is very minimal, it felt like watching and just waiting and having very little control when the game plays out. As a simulation its great and i thinks a great way for card game makers to quickly test balance of their games :)

jeremy-selwyn 2022-04-06 19:08

I had a lot of fun with your game. The audio was very impressive and I really liked how the cards interacted with each other.

phoenix-fireflower 2022-04-06 19:12

It's impressive that you've managed to make a polished game with online functionality in just 72 hours. There's a good variety of cards and synergies, too.

merdeboi 2022-04-06 19:15

This was really good, it does play itself a bit. However I was always on edge, waiting for a good draw. A lot of interesting cards and combinations. Also enjoyed the ambience. Health counter going down on each side of the die was a nice addition. Great submission.

quantumsno 2022-04-06 19:20

Ahh, that quite clever! It was small thing but I really did enjoy watching the dice re-count up after the round end

connor-magson 2022-04-06 19:23

This is really cool and feels very polished. The ambience is great. The art is consistent and looks fantastic. You also did a great job making such intuitive and easy to understand gameplay. Congrats team!

zubspace 2022-04-06 19:33

I love games like this and the setting and environment are really well made. The card animations are perfect as they should be. And there are lots of cards to choose from. Very polished! Good job!

This game is mostly about building your deck and the rest of the game you only a watch how your deck performs against others. There are two problems: 1) The player does not feel like he's in charge. One feels at the mercy of luck which gets old quite fast. 2) If the opponent by chance gets a very strong start, it becomes very difficult for your deck to defend against the onslaught.

Because the fun part is actually getting and selecting new cards, I just fast played with space through the game just to get to the fun part again. I think a bit more interaction during the play phase would have made this one so much better.

Nevertheless, very good work. Could be the start of a really awesome game!

mistagiggles 2022-04-06 19:34

I'm a sucker for deck building games and I had good fun with this one. Really liked the card art, and the setting felt cosy. It's a shame that loosing is inevitable, I felt like I had a good deck going but my opponent has endless coins to play with!

martta 2022-04-06 19:47

This must be the most impressive game I have reviewed so far! This would be a really great game if balance and the synergies would be well thought. For example, I did not see any card that would interact with tags "Animal", "Sky" or "Flying", and because of that the 1/1 flying creature seemed really bad. The best strategy seemed to just pick the pickest creatures, as it was really difficult to get any good synergies going. The multiplayer is really impressive though and everything from graphics to audio and controls were almost perfect. Excellent job guys and girls, this game makes me jealous that we did not have 7 members on our team :D

martta 2022-04-06 19:52

Oh and I dont see how this is related to the theme, but that does not make this game any less impressive. :)

dirkinz 2022-04-06 20:01

I think I've officially spent more time with this game than any other entry so far. So that's good. I found a few graphical glitches (when your deck gets too big mostly) and some of the keyword syntax could be a little clearer but the one thing that I really felt was missing was something tracking how many games you've won. Either during the games or at least at the very end. Without that the final loss feels really anticlimactic. That said, superb job.

landberglife 2022-04-06 20:04

@martta Thank you for your feedback and kind words! I was really happy with the result, we usually scope our games way to big and don't finish everything planned. But this time we felt like we finished with a great end result!

Our idea for the theme was for the player to avoid "bloating the deck" for as long as possible. In card games such as Slay the Spire I tend to pick way to many cards that after a while makes the deck worthless. So we wanted to play with the idea of making deck bloating a forced mechanic. That was the idea at least, I do agree that the end products connection to the theme was not as strong as we had hoped.

wendel-scardua 2022-04-07 00:30

I like the concept, even though I'm not much a fan of autobattlers (and I'm actually surprised Wizards didn't make a MtG autobattler at this point)

One thing I missed from this game was some scoring of how many games we lasted.

skyward4d 2022-04-07 07:49

This one was really cool. The game was pretty intuitive considering the mechanical depth, and the drawings on the cards were great. The tavern setting were really cool, and the assets/music were cohesive as far as the atmosphere was concerned. Overall, great job guys!

mrpouletbzh 2022-04-07 08:01

Excellent concept, and an amazing art direction. I think that the auto battling part would need a bit more interactivity - well, I know that a auto battle isn't supposed to be too interactive, but sometimes it's just feels like I'm slowly watching my end comes for a minute or more. But except for that, I do think that you have executed the concept you came up with greatly, this is a great entry and I really liked playing it. Good job!

tannimun 2022-04-07 08:47

@skyward4d Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you liked it. You can speed up the battle by holding down spacebar

skyward4d 2022-04-07 09:57

@tannimun, thanks for the response. I can see that you're correct and I've edited my original feedback/rating to reflect my oversight. Again, great job on the game!

chriiis88 2022-04-07 18:10

The presentation and polish are impressive and I like the deck building and the card variety. However, the existence of certain cards does not make much sense (e.g. why would you ever take a no-ability 1/1 creature instead of anything else?) and the matches themselves feel a bit boring because essentially you only wait for your deck to do its thing. Some form of interaction would have been nice. And yes, that's why I don't play autobattlers.

chocolat-endive 2022-04-07 21:30

As other have said, it's quite hard to understand where the theme is involved, but it's ok. The auto-battler works quite well, and you've managed to create some good mechanics in there. The fact we can speed up the time is a nice touch.

I've been super impressed by the music, what has been your setup for recording it? It sounds quite professional!

That's a really nice game you made for this jam, good job!

EDIT : I did'nt see what you wrote about the music, so that answer my question. I think you should opt-out of the audio ratings, because I'm not sure everybody reads whole pages. (i almost did'nt see it)

videodotexe 2022-04-07 21:44

So many possible combinations! Very nice job on the minimal yet cool card art

pkenney 2022-04-08 03:09

Very, very cool presentation! I was feeling some nice inscryption and hearthstone vibes, and those are gold-standard presentation. I played three decks and enjoyed myself a bunch.

The overall package is so excellent that I'm just going to focus on the strategy stuff, but I hope this doesn't seem negative since the game is great:

I think there might be a bit of an issue to work out with falling behind hopelessly. If there were more comebacks and the tension about who would win lasted longer, it would be more exciting to watch the autoplay. (The well is one example that kind of does this already a bit) Fortunately you gave us the space bar, but I wish I didn't need it. I also wanted a little post-run report. I slew a bunch of decks with my best run, would have loved to see a number, but even though we wager coins on the table I didn't see where the ones I won went.

Synergy seemed lower-value than great cards. The 1/2 that grows each time something dies will run away with the whole game! Probably my high point was when I was going to lose to a huge one but welled it.

This is a very cool core, with great polish. The design is getting there and you have a lot of cool cards, but maybe some things still to iron out to REALLY nail the whole package.

Incredible accomplishment for a jam - you should be proud of this one!

ardorugus 2022-04-08 09:39

Interesting, yet not easy to get. The tavern mood is nice, but wants you to have more pints than cards. Anyway, this game is quite entertaining, thanks!

anhievus 2022-04-08 12:47

I really wanted to play this - in part because of the awesome name of your itch.io - but it crashes on launch on my antique Windows 7.

rialgar 2022-04-08 12:50

I loved watching the games unfold. I would have liked the ability to remove cards from the deck, since over time, the new cards just made my good cards less frequent and therefore my deck worse.

ratstail91 2022-04-08 14:03

Holy crap - I didn't understand the appeal of auto-battlers until just now. Also, your presentation is on point!

The only thing I would change is maybe a few of the keyword ability names, but once I got what they did, I could follow the battle.

On the whole, a very well done game!

tannimun 2022-04-08 14:29

@rialgar I agree removing cards would be fun, but bloating the deck was the inevitable part you're trying to delay

solah 2022-04-08 15:46

Great mood and overall concept. The game is a bit frustrating right now, if we draft bad cards, we can just watch our repeated defeats xD

Overall, well done!

ugly-robot 2022-04-08 19:03

This game is an entrancing look at diegetic design. The gorgeous models which function as an in-world 'ui', the wavering candleflame, the lovingly drawn card art- all sum up to make the perfect mix of comfy and invigorating environment - familiar and adventurous like a good frothy mug of mead.

The cards and tactics were ranged, but kept tight to ease learnability and mastery - an excellent choice. I will say (and perhaps this is just my experience) but ensuring players have access to an equal number of rare and common cards could go a long way to improve balance. There were a few decks where I seemed to be fielding poor frogs against armies of high level trolls. And there were several greater daemon cards which I never got to try myself, even after an hour or so of gameplay.

Needless to say, I played a ton of drawn-out. Also thank you greatly for implementing the simulation speed up!

I cannot state enough how well the atmosphere was pulled off, really exceptional work. Sidenote: I have recently been looking into this old-norse game aestetic for my own personal projects: see image of my freshly 3dprinted hnefatafl (Tablut) game: PXL_20220330_133558517.PORTRAIT.jpg So this game has been very inspiring in that way too!

giardi 2022-04-09 00:51

I really liked the idea. The game is pretty simple, but funny. I thought the auto play would hurt the strategy of the game, but it worked very well.

simon-rahnasto 2022-04-09 08:57

Jävligt bra spel!

This has to be one of the best looking games that I have played this Jam. There are so many things about the visuals that I like. Even the menu feels like it belongs in a released commercial game.

It was a lot of fun experimenting with different decks, I like the auto-battler genre a lot

tosmaster 2022-04-09 15:42

Wow this game is great! I love deck building games and I love this one just as much. It's really fun to watch the battles play out. Balance wise, there is a lot said already in the comments, but for a gamejam game, it's really impressive and totally fun!

Man, now I wish I could see or re-use my decks again and see how they stack up against my friends. RIP my decks. :(

Balance wise, I feel it's hard to play from behind and off that Kraken tho. Got rekt by it so many times. :D And I would like to have an inidcator how many cards I have left to draft.

Lastly, I got a screenshot for you. You may not like it, but this is what peak Troll performance looks like:

marvis 2022-04-10 13:30

!what a good cards game! good job!

joror 2022-04-11 19:15

Very well executed card game! The auto-play makes this more a draft-powered game than a tactical decision game, but that is ok. The graphics and card-highlighting / move effects were very well done. Sometimes I felt a bit out of control, but that is part of the deal I guess. There were a bunch of synergies in the cards, and it was pretty interesting to figure out what was good and what was bad. The Swedish mythology and card art was also consistent and well made.

Well done ya'll!

100th-coin 2022-04-12 17:55

I think the deck I made was just really bad, but there's pretty much nothing you can do once the enemy has stuff on the board. They've got 4 cards, and after placing my own, they just get immediately destroyed.

Oh, and you should probably add a limit to the number of characters allowed in your player's name / deck name.

______name.PNG

my name continues for a while after that, but when on the title screen the rest gets cut off. ha!

I feel like with most deck games, you don't wasn't the game to "play themselves". There needs to be more strategy than just picking which cards are in the deck. Also all my flying enemies were killed by non flying ones, which seems to defeat the purpose of a flying card. Coming from playing a decent amount of "Magic: The Gathering", I can't help but compare this game to that. Watching everything unfold while I can't do anything is a crummy feeling, especially when my deck is underperforming.

I like the music and the visuals. The title screen buttons being cards is also a nice touch. Good game.

proxy-games 2022-04-20 19:11

This is a very nicely polished game, overall. The graphics and audio are top-notch and some of the best for this game jam. The gameplay is a little lackluster, due to the way the card game sort of plays itself-though it is fun to make the deck, and it is initially entertaining to see how the rounds play out. I do also feel like this game needs some sort of balancing, as once one side has two more cards on the board than the other, it is basically 'round over' at that point. At best, its fun to watch my deck play out well, but at worst, its frustrating to watch my deck fall out in front of me without being able to do anything at all. It really becomes a game of luck, which is likely intentional, but doesn't make it any the less annoying.

Despite that, the game was a lot of fun, and is impressive in its presentation. Great job!
