Ok, I'm writing my comment but I haven't finished yet, it's so hard! I really like the artistic direction of the project and the ambiance! The enter button isn't the easiest to press, but for the attack, I'd have liked to see a space bar for the attack!

Everhood is that you? Joke apart, I like the idea, the game and the art is great. A bit too hard, especially for a game jam (and some design flaw, i gave up the discord fight because approaching it to attack could give me unavoidable hit, you cannot move if a key is already pressed and it seems that the animation when your getting hit prevent you from moving, all of this can be frustrating). Overall, very cool :)

I don't think you're supposed to continue working on it after the submission period is closed? Anyway, I played the old version. I really like the theme a lot. I can dodge discord projectiles by charging forward through them, tee hee! That said, I wasn't sure what to do once the delete button came up at the end. I tried clicking on it, and running toward it didn't seem to work either. Not bad at all, thanks for sharing it!

Really creative game, I loved the style of the game and the art, especially the evil versions of each of the applications. It's pretty difficult, even on easy mode, but I'm impressed with the boss design especially within the 3 day time span. I appreciated the extra boss and the control switching in version 1.2. Awesome job, the game is really cool!

Thanks for the review ** @jason-shapiro **, and yes this idea of jumping over the attack is intentional lol but you have to have the right timing, glad you did it. As for ** updates ** , we really liked how the game turned out so we want to keep creating it. We are posting it here as an update notice because it was in this post that the game was born, but we are also posting it in "posts". If the person wants to see how the game should work without errors, they see the new file, but it is the person's choice to analyze this or the old one, we are just continuing the game project. When the ludum dare is finished we will send the game link on another page so that we can continue developing it separately ;).

I always like games with an OS-like interface and this was a nice take on the theme! I found the controls were a bit confusing when you're supposed to attack, it took me a few tries to figure out that you have to go all the way to the top and press enter. Still, good job!

Why isn't it mentioned in *any* of the instructions that you have to *right-click* to make the "Delete" menu appear? I know you were aiming for verisimilitude with the "toy" OS interface, but this is just obnoxious. It took me three tries booting up the game, finding the files, and thinking I couldn't actually do anything with them for whatever reason before I realized just *how* badly it wanted me to play pretend with its fake version of Windows.

Also: what exactly is Enter supposed to do again? I survived the Discord fight until the "Delete?" prompt appeared but nothing happened when I pressed it. While I was trying to figure out what to do with the prompt, I took a hit and lost the fight anyway, and that was when I chucked this one in the bin.

This game would've won me over a lot more if it'd focused on its actual gameplay instead of the clumsy fake Windows interface. Just cut all that out and make it all about the fights. I love the rhythm-action gameplay and the Undertale-inspired aesthetics, but literally *everything else* about the game gets in the way of me actually enjoying them.

Thanks for your feedback ** @ryusui ** ! We noticed that it's not clear ** how you should uninstall the apps **! We are working on it for the next update ;).

** About the attack **, it is informed in "readme.txt" that you must get close and press your attack button. You can find it on your Windows desktop after starting the game. And you can change the control keys (to move, attack and see your HP) in the settings (also on desktop).

About the ** game interface **. It's part of the context/aesthetic of the game. It would be the same thing as reducing Undertale or Everhood (games that are inspirations for our game) to just fights. there is a story behind it, a reason that connects the battles and that makes us develop affection for the game. In the case of TRASH.EXE, the windows aesthetic show the reason for the battles, you want space and your files don't want to be deleted. Therefore, it will probably remain as it is now. But in the future we may work on a simpler background that might please you more! ;)

@natano Don't get me wrong, I *love* Undertale. But I think at the very least *this* game would be better served with a more abstracted, more streamlined interface - like, keep the "you're deleting files to make room for a game install" pretense, but make the computer interface itself less of an obstacle to actually getting to the gameplay.

Also, "getting close"? It's hard enough to dodge projectiles at full distance; closing the gap to deliver the kill shot seems like a tremendous ask...

I had some fun with this one once I got into the fights! The idea is great and I was hoping to find some jammers who took this interpretation of the theme, cause I couldn't really come up with something that used it in this way before settling on my concept. I'm glad you're planning to make the entry to the boss fights more clear; that'll be a huge improvement in the accessibility department. I found the controls to be decent, but I did have trouble with the response time of the movement - lots of times I was trying to go a certain direction and it just didn't happen until the second keypress. It's definitely a big spike in difficulty when you need to approach the boss for deletion, perhaps asking too much of the player. I would suggest changing this to a mouse click, since that's already part of the controls and would be a relief after spending some time dodging projectiles. In addition, I think it's worth considering upping the player health to 5 or having it recharge after a certain number of successful dodges. The music is pretty good, but I was missing it in the OS part of the game (maybe a bug?). Unfortunately, the SFX used for the deletion is painfully loud. I wish you luck on the improvements for the game, it's a great start!

As for the ** restricted movement **, it's intentional to prevent players from moving too swiftly between areas. We've decreased the jump hitbox to enable jumping over objects, and excessive use would indeed make the game too easy (as we tested, haha). The animation speed decreases with higher difficulty levels, but we'll reconsider this in the next update and potentially make some adjustments.

Regarding ** click attacks **, we've contemplated adding this feature (perhaps in the near future), but we aim to keep it close-range to maintain the challenge. We understand that this intensifies the difficult in the battles , but it contributes to the excitement. We conducted tests with both amateur and experienced players before releasing update 1.2, and most of them succeeded in easy mode, some in medium, and a few in hard mode. It appears possible to win in all three modes.

Concerning the ** life bar **, the game was designed to be challenging. While we've already implemented HP recovery when attacking, your suggestion of a system where you gain HP for deflected attacks is valid. We'll test it before releasing update 1.3. If it enhances player performance without compromising difficulty, we'll incorporate it. We've also taken note of your feedback about reducing the volume of the ** damage sound ** in Update 1.2. Regarding the ** menu sound **, we have a idea in progress that we believe will be intriguing. Please stay tuned for future updates, and once again, thank you for your valuable ideas! ;)

Haha, very smart take on the theme, fits perfectly.

Loved the gameplay too. Definitely also got the Undertale vibes here from the art style and the feel of things, and I think you also succeeded in capturing the creativity of the attack patterns, especially with the Internet Explorer fight and the Discord fight, those were amazing (the others were great too, but those two really stood out in how fun their gimmicks were). The difficulty settings were a nice touch too, I liked replaying on higher difficulties. The pre-fight dialog (and ending) was very funny, those made me laugh, they added a lot of personality. Great job all around, I had a super fun time with this, amazing!

Impressive realisation. The Window background is really well done and you managed the theme in an unusual way. Your project reminds me of some crazy games like **Pony Island** or **Please, don't touch anything**. The main gameplay is easy to understand and really well done. I had fun playing. I don't know Pony Island, thanks for introducing me, I added it to my Steam list. I always like discovering new games hehe, feel free if you want to exchange an idea about them on my discord @_natano. As for the engine: we use ** Gamemaker **. I learned how to use Gamemaker at the beginning of my adolescence, watching videos from a very cool Brazilian YouTuber called Gemaplys (I highly recommend this channel), and the other programmer, @dogeful12, knew a little about gamemaker and unity. We decided to stay with the gamemaker that was at least known to both of us, so we could help each other.

Hehe I loved how the programs fight to avoid been deleted! Also I was not expecting the message Trash gives you when trying to delete it! Great idea to let the player choose the difficulty level! A recommendation for next game jams is to create a web export of your game, I believe that is the most accessible for a lot of people! Good job!

Really cool and creative idea with some awesome art but the controls are really finicky and the fights feel overtuned. I'm not sure if I missed something but I couldnt delete any of the bosses after surviving long enough, and the word boss just kicks me out instantly.

I'm guessing those issues are just bugs or control scheme things I couldn't figure out, but I basically beat chrome and discord and really liked what I saw, just needs some more polish and tuning to make it more approachable and clear what to do.

Awesome work, I'm really impressed, great work!

Maybe I'm kinda late to the party but anyway, really nice idea you guys got there. I like the recreation of Windows out of pixel art and the animation of the enemy programs, very distinctive and intriguing! The audio is also great, the fact that each program has its own boss music is a nice touch, it really highlights their characteristics.

The fights did seem to be inspired from Undertale, which is really good don't get me wrong but the controls was a bit confusing to get used to at first, especially when the delete button showed up and I didn't know what to do next because the attack button wasn't working as I kept pressing it, until I realized I had to get really close to the boss for it to work. And you might have been killed along the way because you didn't have time to react to incoming attacks, it would've made the experience more enjoyable if you were allowed to attack at anytime as long as the delete button showed up, without having to get real close to the boss.

And one more thing is when the player died, the "Uninstall failed" message showed up and after they pressed "OK", the fight would restart automatically instead of kicking the player out and they had to do the restart manually. This could be a tedious process on higher difficulty because you might have failed a lot of times, and for each time you had to manually start the fight again, which took a decent amount of time and greatly reduced the replay value as well as the overall enjoyment.

But with that said, this is a really cool entry with a nice take on the theme! Might need some polishing and balancing to make it more approachable for future players, but at the end of the day, I had quite an amazing experience playing it, congrats on your first game guys!

I don't know why you couldn't delete it, but to delete it you need to press your attack button while being close to the enemy when the code above it turns green. On easy the boss has 1 life, on medium 3 and on difficult 5. As for the character's movement, it is reduced the higher the difficulty on purpose, forcing you to think more about each movement. Regarding the delete button, the intention is to make it difficult to delete, in easy mode for example a button appears after 25 seconds, if you could click immediately the fight would last exactly 25 seconds. The idea is a difficult game like Cuphead, Dark Souls or Undertale itself in fights like Sans. As for the game replay, we noticed this too and a replay screen has already been created in the 1.4 update that we will release. We will continue to work on this game and improve it. Olá, curti bastante o jogo :) Os diálogos com os programas tiveram piadas bem infames mas eu aprovo esse tipo de humor 😅 E achei legal que apesar de ser perceptível a inspiração de Undertale as batalhas em si tem uma mecânica própria do seu jogo.

E agora quanto música, não foi bem essa música que foi a inspiração, masss, foi um vocaloid kkk . Eu queria a ideia de música rápida e cheia de glitches, porém, com uma ideia de vitória. This was neat, instant nostalgia as soon as the game started.

I wasn't used to the kind of 3d you implemented in this game so it was hard for me to dodge things at first, but eventually my brain got it and I was fine. I guess it's because I've never played any games like Undertale before?

I played on easy mode, but it felt like this game was made to shine in the harder modes, I unfortunately didn't have the time to practice enough to play them though. I did enjoy the 'fights' though, and liked how you did the corrupted versions of the files. I deleted Internet Explorer first :P
