I completed the harvest in 15 days! I had a lot of fun with this. It took me a day or two to get the hang of it, and I was very fortunate they let me not paying my first tax slide, otherwise I was a goner. I enjoyed the fun nature of it and using strategy when combing multiple different types of units to maximize my harvest. Good work!

Completed the harvest ! I am amazed how you turned the concept into a real time strategy tower defense. Really enjoyed it, very atmospheric. Let's just hope these aliens don't find their way into REAL Belgium ;)

capercube 2023-01-11 00:05

I liked the game a bunch! There's more strategy than I thought there would be. Loved the chicken units, lol

Managed to complete the game in 26 days.

I liked the UI, it's pretty, clean and has some stylish transitions. There is a couple of helpers getting the player to notice they have to act somehow, which I appreciate. I mean things like the "collect me" hint when you miss some juice, or an alert about having not enough juice for the tax.

I've only missed that for the delivery time, which I sometimes forgot about and went on harvests straight after buying. Broke a game once by entering the level with 0 units available (couldn't get back to world screen).

For some reason I initially thought that you keep units placed on the map for the next level and it took me three levels to notice that it's not the case. That obv makes sense design-wise, I just didn't notice at first.

A quality-of-life feature I'd appreciate would be shift-clicking to place multiple units.

The game feels very complete, with a solid structure that one can easily imagine be expanded upon. It seems quite polished, especially for a solo project. Good job bringing it all together!

When it comes to battle gameplay itself - I feel like I overused bombs, they kind of carried me through the game. Often I wouldn't place units but just ride the 10 sec timer and wait for enemies to get into good positions.

I think part of my focus on bombs was that I'd prefer units to be more accurate, e.g. always (or at least mostly) going for the closest enemy. Especially since I've often deployed a minimal number of units to save on juice (therefore every "weird" behaviour was particularly impactful).

PS I do like the >historically accurate< shapes of countries :D

Just my type of game! ^^ and I beat no bombs mode \o/ with all upgrades full

my tip is to do small harvests and gain lots of reward cards, also you needs lots of rewards because sometimes you are still rewarded bombs and cant use them haha ^^ great game

The Graphics And Music Go Really Well Together!!! I loved IT!!!

magicstunts123 2023-01-11 21:12

Really cool game! I would love to see an endless game like that with more countries! Including a delivery time was a smart move...sadly i did read it, but forgot that in the next second so, i began a harvest with just a chicken....but in the end i magaged to win in the first run. :D

efilheim 2023-01-11 21:35

Really cool game. I like the concept of conquering the world with upgradables units. I stole the Belgium sweet juice, which is nice.

slush 2023-01-13 06:24

So fun! I love the 3D aliens, all around crazy vibe.

poboy 2023-01-13 11:03

Really fun game! I love the overworld system, reminds me of Atom Zombie Smasher.

My first run I ran into a softlock, if you enter a region without any army supply you can't start the harvest timer. Second run I managed to win. Mines/bombs are super OP. I may come back for the No Bombs Challenge later.

There's a few abusable strategies, like it seems you're much better off starting and ending harvests quickly to collect the free rewards as opposed to buying things from the shop (where money should be spent on upgrades/taxes).

I had a lot of fun theory-crafting this and the alien narrators are great. Super innovative and interesting game!

thesmellofoxygen 2023-01-13 15:29

Surprising scope to the game. It provides a lot of potential playtime comparative to most jam entries. I found myself considering the strategies necessary to harvest enough to get my boss off my back and getting into it. The 3D assets were great, though the 2D assets were pretty weak. I was frustrated by the amount of time my units spent uselessly chasing civilians while guards murdered them and longed for some sort of prioritize command or automatic defense mode. I also encountered a bug where I bought armies from the mothership and they gave me nothing, so when I went into the next map with no juice and no armies, I couldn't even start the mission.

togis 2023-01-13 16:17

@TheSmellofOxygen Hooo sorry for your issue, I think you stumble upon an edge case I didn't take into consideration: starting a map without any unit, you will not be able to start the timer of the map indeed. I will have to fix that.

For the mothership purchase, they probably worked but they take two in game days to be delivered. It may not be obvious as a small percentage of player do not understand this mechanic out of the box. I have a better solution to convey the information to the player and I may implement it in a future version

To all, Thanks a lot for your feedback! The feedback is super constructive and I have so much fun taking it into account and improving the game!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-13 18:14

The game feels strange in a positive way. Apart of bugs and UX inconveniences, I don't like too choose whatever card I want. If you give player a choice, open all cards to player, with all cards closed, I can't make a conscious decision what I want.

lomby 2023-01-14 03:56

Thanks for submitting your game on the stream! Here’s the start of your game if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts youtu.be/OTjgGbVpf7g?t=22484

Loved the alien designs! Might have to come back to this to attempt the no bomb mode! Nice work!

phillip-scott 2023-01-14 12:12

I like the alien designs and the ship is cool - the upgrade shop is neat too.

I feel that the game has some pacing issues - I like the challenge of farming the guards without killing the cattle (fun joke BTW!).

The people moving off the screen is a little annoying too.

I played maybe the wrong way - trying to last as long as possible

image_2023-01-14_121107346.png

Though at the end I hit escape and then could not go full screen again due to F11 making my browser window full screen

Overall I think its quite fun, but would be better if it was a little faster, and maybe a little more agency in the fights.

Well done!

togis 2023-01-14 12:35

@@phillip-scott which browser are you using? I dindn't encounter this issue on any browser I tried.

phillip-scott 2023-01-14 12:36

@togis Opera GX - just confirmed that it works correctly on chrome

togis 2023-01-14 13:49

@phillip-scott thanks! I always forget opera, I should add an alternative key

hayricakir 2023-01-14 20:15

Just beat the game in 13 days and I think it is pretty fun! Visuals, mood, mechanics all great. One issue I encountered is: sometimes can't click buttons so I should hover over something else and come back to the button I want to click in order to make it work. Other than that, very good concept and gameplay. Hound is my favorite, I like to see them running around harvesting people :D Also loved the dialogue system! Good job mate! And thanks again for playing my game on stream :)

kikiriki367 2023-01-14 20:47

Hey cool game! Im someone who cheeses games a bit, so im not sure if im the only one that did this... But a great strategy seemed to be rushing USA, using the cheapest units to herd the humans and just bombing them. So the upgrades were kind of obsolete and buying bobms+cheapest units worked pretty well! But i see you added a no bomb mode so thats going to be an interesting one i might try to beat as well :))

wendel-scardua 2023-01-15 14:17

I guess everything I could say was already said by others.

One small and unimportant bug I've found: no matter which country you choose, it always says "Belgium" on the top right.

Also, it's funny how your description says "In Cattle Juice, you try to eradicate the population of the world", but I still kept being afraid of killing everyone and running out of juice πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

I won in 22 days at first, then I turned on the post-jam better AI and beat it in 14 days (right before needing to pay the second week tax).

One thing I found missing: I wish there was a way to see the delivery queue for the units we've bought.

chase-of-bass 2023-01-16 18:37

This was really fun! I foolishly skipped the tutorial and jumped in not realizing that I needed to really stretch my units from level to level xD Once I understood it was really fun trying to save enough money for the end of the week while not missing out on any of those delightful juice boxes xD

Loved the humor in this and it was really fun to see these intense 3d aliens with little human pixel art cattle wandering around behind them while they were talking!

Amazing job on this game!!

honest-dan 2023-01-25 20:37

I was pleased to do this in 26 days! I think it was a nice blend of automated AI mixed with placed items (bombs and mines). I think I was lucky to get the mines so often in the post-game cards - but they made the gameplay more fun too! I also liked the idea that you need to budget and plan a little, since units take some time to arrive, along with the weekly tax. The one thing I'd say is that it was unexpected that time passes fast on the world screen - so I accidentally lost days to it before I noticed!

papabirb 2023-01-26 21:57

Fun game!

78wrb7.jpg

Aside from every country secretly being Belgium, I had a great time up until I softlocked myself 3/5ths through total annihilation by entering a level with 0 units, lol. The music choices were interesting (though perhaps a bit too otherworldly relaxing for my tastes, felt too meditative) and while finding the best browser to play in I noticed the game starts on a different song each time, which I thought was a neat touch though at first I thought it meant my second browser choice had different audio issues from my first lol. (For some reason I had awful audio quality on fullscreen in Chrome, which is unusual for Godot games usually, but it's probably just an issue on my end due to copious amounts of tabs open at all times. It worked great in Firefox.)

itsboats 2023-01-27 06:59

First run was 14 days, got it down to 7 on the second one (so close to getting 6 too!) xD main strat was spending way less time on the map screen since time progresses and making good use of bombs of course hehehe >:D

Thanks to everyone who played Cattle Juice! I'm really happy to have had so much quality feedback!
