Tackling an exploration-based game on a jam is not an easy task, so props for that. I really like this kind of surreal games. Can't say I understand what's going on in the story, it's hard to hear what's being said at points, but I still was curious about what I'll find on upper floors. Movement options really help with making traversing the landscape involved, although I felt like the character was a bit too slow at points, for such a vast environment. I feel like this could be a potentially very nice game with a little polish and if you stitch all of the ideas you have together a little better. That being said, I did finish and enjoyed the game for what it is, so good job!

jerem-watts 2024-04-16 15:02

@quadape Ahh yes! Very good points! Thank you for such substantial feedback! Thank you for playing our game :')

rainybyte 2024-04-16 17:32

What were the inspirations? I'm getting some 'Repeater' vibes, to some degree.

yaroslav-gozak 2024-04-16 18:19

The game's graphics reminds me good old Doom. I don't quite understand why I need a sword - there was only one character whom I found and killed, despite he didn't seem to try to attack me. But agree with @quadape I was also curios what I find at the top levels (although, at first I didn't think it is even possible to get there). Wall running mechanics is pretty cool! That's fresh up to a point! But I would love to have more challenges related to jumping in conjunction with running on the walls and make those challenges more... challenging. Overall I liked the game, however it needs polishing.

P.S. Better place the first diary somewhere very close to player so that they can easily find it and understand what they are looking for

2024-04-16 20:59

Usually whenever I played games with similar crouch + jump to boost mechanics, I could rarely really focus on it because there is always something else going on - fighting and stuff. But I think this movement really suits an exploration based game. So even if you intend to add more stuff to do besides movement based gameplay, i still quite enjoyed being able to focus on it and not feel kinda shitty because i didn't land 10 headshots during a wallrun :D The audio logs were pleasently short, so i actually was curious what the next one would be, even though i don't usually pay much attention to audio logs in games. Before playing I expected to get lost because the environment looked too open to really guide me to where I needed to go. But remarkably it wasn't so - I barely tested out the basic controls before I found the first casette, then the next. I actually felt either lucky, skilled or somehow subtly guided from target to target. Maybe I missed some stuff, but it felt really good to breeze through the map and quickly gain access to new areas. I'm unsure of how to interpret the story-elements, but I could definitely see myself putting more time into this game, explore more stuff, become faster and more skilled at ascending bizarre structures to figure it out.

kseniya 2024-04-17 01:24

It is a very unusual and atmospheric game, the visual is quite interesting, it looks stylish and funny! Good luck with your project, I would have played it more than once!!!

yabin 2024-04-17 01:25

Wow! You did really great job and it's so cool! It was a surprise to discover that I could listen to the audio diary! I suggest adding more guiding clues, as I was confused at the beginning and spent a much time just running through the big map.

zablas 2024-04-17 16:08

Feels like a well-made psychological horror game with Quake-like physics. Enjoyed it! ;)

jerem-watts 2024-04-17 22:38

scrn1.png @yabin I think you're right. The first key skin-polene is too hidden and a number of useful places are obscured by the monolith. I'll see if I can't fit that into the next build. Thank you for pointing that out

@rainybyte Uhhh, it's a bit hard to pin it down when it comes to a game with this many people working on it. @ATH-AI was the lead writer, so he's probably got some good recommendations for narratives like this. as for the mechanics, the player controller is mostly inspired by mario64 believe it or not. Bioshock was our like, quintessential example for the audio diary mechanic.

@yaroslav-gozak yeah man i'm a doom-head, all the way. i'll have to fix whatever's breaking the navmesh so we can get more enemies for ya. good point with the first diary. i'll chuck that in the next build.

@quadape you'll be pleased to know that today's update solely focused on your advice! a new screen appears just before playing that shows video examples and explanations for not only walljumping, but also exponentially increasing your velocity with long-jumping, a mechanic that, even though was present, was never highlighted. scrn2.png

velvetlobster 2024-04-18 02:59

I love the visuals in this, definitely something I hope to see in alphabeta gamer channel as a full fledged version.

could perfectly fit the lsd game jam

I dig the visuals, I dig the atmosphere, the colors, the vibe

jerem-watts 2024-04-18 11:14

@velvetlobster i just lopoked up the lsdjam from 2023. you're right. this is right up our alley. i think i know our next target now.

almalewis 2024-04-18 15:58

Interesting concept, possibly an interesting plot, but very long. The distances are too long.

monogatari 2024-04-19 00:32

The ambiance is amazing ! i love the graphic style and the mood of the game, i'm not sure i understood everything i had to on the level design, but the idea of a big area where you have to experiment to find things is really cool =)

Edit : Oops i don't know why it added 4 text boxes under mine. sorry for that, i don't find how to delete them.

braulio-jg 2024-04-19 00:59

A surprisingly big game, with engaging movement mechanics. The wind sound related to the speed is a great detail, and the recorded diaries add to the feeling of the game. With the background ambient sounds it really feels scary. As other coments said, I only found 1 enemy, and the top of the tower looks like the perfect scenery for a boss fight, but I understand the limitations of a jam ๐Ÿ˜…. Definitely with a little more work it could be selled, magnificent entry!

ilbini 2024-04-19 01:02

I liked the graphics and the audio, the mood overall is very well made, made me feel like DOOM aesthetic and as an outsider summoned in another world. I thnk the world building is a bit tedious and distances felt too long, i had one encounter with somebody that i killed instantly and didnt felt like a fight. The walljumps and movement mechanic was good and the jump fx on skinpolene were well polished. I had some troubles understanding what to do and where cassetes were, also could not follow the lore behind but i liked that you guys used voices to tell it. Good luck!

fabula-rasa 2024-04-19 20:09

You created an impressively expansive and complicated world. Yet, intuitive enough that I knew exactly where I should be headed and discovered how to get there step by step, while discovering the world itself and the story. That's a superb level design.

Skin trampoline is wonderfully creepy and by the simple fact of its existence adds so much to the world building. Sound design is great and supports everything perfectly. And the ending narration, along with the changing light, is just great and a perfect closure.

I wished a bit I had some kind of journal of found diaries, so I could listen to those again and maybe by able to establish if I missed some. But on the other hand, I know it would kinda interfere with immersion and be against the spirit of the game. So, all in all, maybe it's better you didn't include anything like that.

Great and unique experience.

nomersol 2024-04-19 22:24

Loved the vibes and style, definitely in my taste. But personally voice and sfx were conflicting and it was hard to hear the voice. so story stays mystery for me for most parts.

parker8283 2024-04-20 01:28

I loved the movement style!

pabloabraham 2024-04-20 05:55

Dig the serious undertones and how they play against the stark scenes โ€“ itโ€™s like each stepโ€™s got weight. Could use a hint system for the steep learning curve, but tackling tough topics? Respect. ๐Ÿ‘Š

rickylee 2024-04-20 14:57

I played both versions ^^ 5/5 game I loved it. I went through a few times and I think I found all the tapes but im not sure. also wthell is this hahaha

atzederserbe 2024-04-20 17:01

I love everything about this game <3

beebster-games 2024-04-21 13:26

If this were some kind of a demo for a larger game then this was pretty good. If this is the game then it seems to be like an after thought.

The game was fairly pointless, almost as if you had all of this great mobility, great graphics, but no clear goals. It is probably me.

fabiole 2024-04-21 13:59

I love to play at this game, like the graphics, the ambiance and the movement. However i think that you are completly out of the theme ... :)

good job overall

mircudx 2024-04-21 13:59

The game is impressive, the sound design is top-notch. It strongly reminded me of Exo One, where the inertia mechanic is also used. I enjoyed playing it. One thing that caught my eye in the jam version is that the credits didn't scroll all the way to the top; you can cheat with a quick double press of the spacebar. Thanks for a great time with the game, good luck!

anton-florey 2024-04-21 14:04

Great athmosphere! I think the creepy visuals together with the sound design makes this a very unique experience. I dont know if it is intended, but you can climb up any wall by wall-running and then double jumping further up. This made the gameplay well.. not that challenging. I am also wondering about that one creepy ass enemy on the first level. Are there supposed to be more of them further up?

rollcreators 2024-04-21 14:23

Ncie chess texture. I don't understande how to complete game xD

wendel-scardua 2024-04-21 20:41

@rollcreators I just finished the game, the game ends when you find and play the tape at the very top.

wendel-scardua 2024-04-21 20:46

The game was great, just finished it and played a bit of a second run because I wanted to check some tapes I missed... Which I guess would be one thing I missed: a way to continue after the credits to keep looking for tapes.

I like how the map is spaced in a way to make use of the movement mechanics, it was cool to nyoom around with the long jump :)

Also, one thing I found weird is that apparently there's a limit to how much we can turn around, sometimes I had to spin all the way in the opposite direction to look somewhere (but maybe it's just me, or a side effect of me playing inside a sandbox, I dunno)

happy 2024-04-21 22:58

I liked the movement! Though I don't quite understand where the theme of summoning comes into play.

chispalbc 2024-04-22 00:26

hmmmm i liked it a lot. At first i thought it was a little empty but then i guess its that way on purpose so you can go really fast. The movement is really cool once you understand it. You can abuse the double jump and climb everything if you want tho. The tower-like structure and general vibe reminded me of the tower in Pathologic. Really cool.

I finished the game and i have to say that this kind of storytelling is not my cup of tea but having voice acting in a jam game is refreshing. So nice work to the writers/VA ^^. The way the sword shrinks when crouching, although hillarious at first, looks weird haha.

Also, i killed one guy in the first floor and was specting more in the way up but didn't see any more. Is there a lore reason for that? or just development? i would've loved having more enemies. Not in a fast combat - souls - doom kind of fight, but more. Anyways nice work.

itsboats 2024-04-22 10:31

alright that was pretty creepy, idk what was really going but man it was dope and i had fun jumping around like crasy xD i finished it without realizing the jump jets mechanic and as i was scrolling down the LD page i saw ur screenshot with some controls and then scrolled up to see i somehow just missed it at the top of the page too whoops! i ended up going back in and just jumping around for another 5 min haha

sometimes i would get like a super high jump (beyond the normal double jump) and i couldnt figure out where that was coming from and couldnt get it to happen consistently (sometimes was happening just while wall jumping too)

main things i wish for: -to know how many of the audio logs i got + how many there are hehe i searched far and wide and just curious if theres some super sneaky ones i missed -subtitle for audios

my theory is the person is reincarnated as different people only to suffer the same purgatory fate over and over as a punishment xD a loop, thats kinda contorted and different each time hence mobius? but thats just a theory. a game theoryyyy thanks for watching

chonibi 2024-04-24 00:20

This was really cool! I like the open ended-ness of both the map itself and how I was able to traverse it. Accelerating via crouch dashing was sooooo satisfying. I'm also a big fan of the art style and general mood. Made me think of Dusk which is one of my favs. The audio logs were really fun too, I liked the wrestler one. Could use a system for giving players (very loose) direction when they get stuck.

deadjolly 2024-04-25 01:47

The graphics definitely stole the show for me here. The movement was engaging but I never felt like I truly wrapped my head around the way gravity and jumping worked, though I got pretty good at skipping across the ground. The sound design amplified the tone of the movement with the whoosh noises. I got to the top but was confused by where to go after that. If there's an ending I missed it unfortunately. Fell down what appeared to be a giant paper crane.

After the third audio log I found, the subtitle overlay box stayed on the screen for the rest of the playthrough, even with respawns. Played the updated version.

Good job, great ambience. Reminds me if Salvador Dali and the old MDK game had a baby.

fupi 2024-04-25 20:38

Doesn't work on my PC unfortunately. :( I can hear sounds, but it crashes after the splash screen.

alaah 2024-04-26 22:15

Superb voice acting, 5* audio all the way, though I missed subtitles greatly (I played the original version).

Watching others play your game can be extremely insightful, so I recorded my playthrough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln1ONMCJ9UE

its-capp 2024-04-26 23:47

this game is so mysterious, I managed to beat it after a while of aimless running, (the wind is a bit too intense when running I think) but it gives off really good vibes, with the audio tapes and the barren landscape, even if it was intended to be more full, it really works to the game's advantage. only having 1 enemy confused me though,,,

yanato 2024-04-30 15:51

Sorry, but I just pressed 'Space' to fly to the highest point and look around the world xD

lambbones 2024-05-01 03:48

That was a pretty strange experience. I'm not really sure what was going on with the story to be honest. Anyway the platforming actually was pretty fun once I figured out the wall running and that jumping repeatedly would let you pick up a bunch of speed. I like the surreal level design, I guess it kind of looked like a blockout level with placeholder textures but kind of gave it an interesting vibe. I actually really liked this honestly, it was very cool and weird

2024-05-01 08:29

good game

dyingwolfwood 2024-05-01 15:44

Wow. A lot of work went into this game. Very well done. The graphics, audio, and movement all came together to create a really cool vibe. I liked the jam summary video as well. I can tell that you had a lot of fun making this, and that's really what it's all about! Great job, I loved it!

marin-davys 2024-05-03 18:02

I liked the movement system and the level design, although was kind of taken out of the experience by the edgelord audio tapes. The last area is cool but the material on it reflects a bit too much light, giving it a bit too much of a 'unity standard material' look. Otherwise, I think it's well done and accomplished for the time that it took to make.

zinkler 2024-05-03 20:31

I can't believe this was done in 72 hours. Wonderful, beautiful game that I can see myself paying for. Strong vibes from Wrought Flesh and Echo Point Nova. I understand that the level was designed to impress with the scale, but some parts of the starting location felt too distant because of this, and nearly bore me before I've got to the really cool obstacle course. The sound design is beautiful. I've got just a bit of my immersion broken when I've found and played a previously obtained dramatic tape for the second time. I think even disabling remaining tapes altogether after you've heard them all would work better for the immersion, because the player have already jumped through some hoops for these. Great game, looking forward to see more from you

romulo-developer 2024-05-03 21:34

Such cool concept! Everything in this game creates such a great ambiatation! And althought I couldn't really say I fully got the lore, that's something I think I could teorize and keep coming back to the game to get more details. AWESOME GAME!

denilseven 2024-05-03 22:24

Very cool, it's just that these quiet and torturous atmospheres are not really my thing (I played it windowed to lose a bit of immersion lol). It's good that you guys stated very clearly on the game's page that it gets dark. I managed to beat it, but didn't understand much of the story (why stuff was happening) with the 10 or so tapes I got.

Anyways, this is looking good :100: and I know that there are people who enjoy this style lots. It'd be neat if you guys patched in some updates to polish things up a bit further.

kaliuresis 2024-05-04 00:33

Fun movement mechanics. I was able to climb vertical walls with wall jumping and double jump, which felt like it bypassed a lot of the game. I can see why you removed double jump for expert mode on the post-jam update. In the post-jam version I wanted to play on potato mode since I had frame rate issues, but the short draw distance doesn't work well with how large the level is so I had to settle for the lower frame rate.
