Ended up with about $24k when I died.

Good audio, great art. Awesome one liners!

I think my favorite part was the drawing with the mouse to shoot the zombies mechanic though, it was much more engaging than just pointing and clicking to shoot, and it also let me do stuff like circle a group of zombies to shoot at them all. Really cool.

thebooksnail 2020-10-05 19:30

I love that the controls work on mobile! I wanted to do that for my game but didn't get to it. Audio settings! Audio settings that save! ~~Only thing I want is high score to save.~~ it was already there lol

phlip45 2020-10-05 20:08

Loved the puns! Graphics and audio were great. We spoke on Pomo's stream and I think the biggest improvement would be having the powerups be something you circle on the ground, but you already said you ran out of time which is totally understandable.

Great Job!

queenkrissu 2020-10-05 20:35

Really unique take on the loop theme. Never would have thought to draw a loop, but I loved it. The audio was quite good, I liked it a lot! This was a great game! Great job!

100th-coin 2020-10-05 22:11

I love the manly quotes! Such great humor in the intro! Also the fact that it works on mobile is amazing! It wouldn't load on my computer for some reason (and the source github repo is empty?) so I tried it on mobile and it worked perfectly. Amazingly done!

javasaurus 2020-10-05 22:13

@blobo Woa hold the phone, that github shouldn't be empty ! Let me check that right away ! Anyway thanks a lot for playing and glad you enjoyed it! It was designed for a generic HD phone in landscape, so it might not work for all but it's as close as I could get it in 48 hours :)

*Edit* Seems Github was complaining about the lib folder being too large. I remade the repo with only my assets, I hope thats ok ! If not let me know :id:

schraf 2020-10-05 22:29

Took me a bit to figure out the trick to fire affectively, but otherwise it was pretty fun. I liked the character gfx.

warrrkus 2020-10-05 22:34

If MSPaint was a shooter :D Game was indeed epic. I really liked all the sprites. Sound was also really good. Another game that I will definitely come back to later :)

julienlussiez 2020-10-05 22:35

I really like the concept of this game. I struggled finding an interesting game mechanics during this jam to the point I made a narrative game and yours is very promising! It was fun to play and I would have liked more content. I made more than 6000$. Killing zombis is a good marketing plan.

pomo 2020-10-06 15:16

Still want to watch you get pass my tutorial LUL

ninnec 2020-10-06 18:44

Really enjoy the humor.

forgeronstudio 2020-10-06 18:46

Expected an epic game, got an epic game.

stefan-b 2020-10-06 18:48

interesting take on the loop theme

jesus-gonzalez 2020-10-06 20:43

Audio and game feel are amazing. Nice take on the theme too.

citdev-chris 2020-10-06 22:31

nice one! took me a couple tries to get used to it but now i'm a top notch zombie killer. bonus system was encouraging to go faster!

pennycook 2020-10-07 01:54

Great voice acting and spectacular puns. Good job!

I think the only issue I had with it is that it wasn't obvious to me when the damage multipliers would appear, and sometimes they seemed to disappear before I had a chance to click on them. Allowing the player to purchase upgrades whenever they want would have made more sense to me (although I appreciate that could make it harder to balance the difficulty).

m7rk 2020-10-07 02:33

very fun. Only serious complaint is that i wish the fences gave a little bit more indication as to how how damaged they were (other than flashing)

mrsamafu 2020-10-07 08:38

Very good gamplay dude i love it :D 32250 Dollars :P

spawncampgames 2020-10-07 11:44

Bruh, this could be empty pixel sprites and i'd still enjoy the hell outta it.. Quick, intense play.. <3 it

josephdevelops 2020-10-07 11:45

Great game. Try it witha stylus!

pink-shard-games 2020-10-07 11:51

Really cool game!

dakke 2020-10-07 11:53

Liked the different approach to shooting. Sounds are nice, a little cringe :P

javasaurus 2020-10-07 12:46

Apologies that I'll do this in one big giant reply ! I wasn't expecting such nice feedback from you guys ! :)

@magnusfurcifer Great score ! I'm glad you like it. I had to chose between audio and extra enemies/artwork and I decided to go for the audio to make it more engaging and humorous ! Cheers for playing !

@thebooksnail The controls DO work on mobile ! It's actually a nice suprise that they do, now I have one of my games in my pocket to show off when people ask me about my hobbies ! ^-^ I've actually started to prefer the mobile version, maybe it's more suited. I'll investigate that post jam !

@phlip45 Thanks for playing ! Yes... There were actually plans to have the power ups appear as objects to circle instead... in fact this is all ready in the backend, but in the end I went for a simple button. Poor design choice maybe but I didn't want to change it in a compo submission !

@queenkrissu Thank you for playing it ! I haven't seen too many other games out there where loops are drawn in order to damage enemies so I'm hoping that's a good "theme" score in the works for me. I'm quite proud of the idea ! Thank you for playing and the nice feedback !

@blobo Hey Blobo, thanks for playing. I did check the github and I uploaded the assets in the meantime. For some reason Github is complaining when I tried to push the entire code base because of files in the lib folder that are too big, I'm sorry. Very nice you managed to play it on mobile ! I do have the feeling that's better suited :)

@schraf Maybe I should add a bit more detail on how to properly do it. Basically the line acts like a proper loop, meaning that the inside of the line is the thing that detects enemies. So if you move right past a zombie, it'll register as a single hit for them, but if you properly circle them (tiny circles) it'll continuously fire at them. Keeping the circles small is key ! Thank you for playing !

@warrrkus MSPaint as a shooter... Now that's a compliment if I ever received one ! :D I'm very glad you liked it. Thank yyou for playing !

@julienlussiez Thank you for playing ! I'm very glad the mechanics are received as interesting, it gives me hope for innovation and theme categories :) I'd also want to add more content post jam, but I wanted to spend the little extra time I had left (I think it was 10.45pm with the deadline at midnight for me) to implement the voice lines. Design choices in game jams are annoying but it is what it is. I'm glad I managed to give you some enjoyment out of it !

@arthurds I hate you ;) (jokes, go check out arthurds at [https://www.twitch.tv/pomothedog](twitch.tv/pomothedog!)

@ninnec Thank you ! I tried to make it a little bit more light hearted and fun. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for playing !

@forgeronstudio Crash Thunderstud NEVER disappoints ! Thanks for playing :)

@stefan-b Thank you so much and thank you for playing the game !

@jesus-gonzalez Thank you for the kind words. I am glad you liked the game ! Hoping for a good theme score :)

@citdev-chris Thank you for playing ! I didn't really want to make it just a simple idle/incremental game, allthough that was the original idea. I added the bonus system to make the game last just a little bit longer, I mean most people only play a LD entry for 4-5 minutes I'd say? So giving the player a little bit more power to last seemed a nice idea. Thank you !

@pennycook I agree with the power-ups disappearing too soon. It was designed like that though, as you said, this was a quick and dirty way to balance difficulty a bit better... Should the player get full freedom, the game would be endless with fence repair power ups. Well I suppose I could have made every purchase more expensive and I might change that in the future ! Good call ! Thank you for playing :)

@m7rk Hey there ! Thank you for playing the game ! I'm sorry the fence damage wasn't clear... I did have a system with health bars at some point during development, but I decided to remove it because it was obstructing the game too much. Just a design choice, but I appreciate the feedback

javasaurus 2020-10-07 12:50

@mrsamafu Thank you so much for playing the game ! Anything above 30k is pretty dope pro level gaming right there ! :) Well done !

@spawncampgames I would never ship it empty pixels :p Thanks a billion for playing it !

@josephdevelops Thanks for playing it on stream, in spite of your clear fatigue. Don't forget to rest up, people? This man is a legend with his marathon ld streams. Go check him out at [twitch.tv/josephdevelops](https://www.twitch.tv/josephdevelops)

@pink-shard-games Thank you for the kind feedback ! I'm glad you liked it !

@dakke Thank you for playing ! I really tried to get a decent audio rating in this LD, I'm very happy you appreciate it.

Phew ! I shouldn't let comments build up that much, but I really wanted to give each and every one of you lovely people a personal reply ! :) Thank you for playing and GAME(JAM) ON !

arron-fowler 2020-10-07 12:56

This is excelent. Not much else to say. Great work

javasaurus 2020-10-07 13:05

@arron-fowler Thank you for the kind words ! Really appreciate it :) Thank you for playing

pomo 2020-10-07 15:10

Hey @javasaurus Doc I added an easy mode to my game just for you <3

rgilpt 2020-10-07 16:56

Hi @javasaurus Nice and fun game :D with decent power ups. Kind of out of the theme eventually. For a Compo it was a great work :O Well done :)

javasaurus 2020-10-07 16:57

@rgilpt The theme is looping the zombies and keeping them stuck in it, you wouldn't do damage if not. But I appreciate the feedback ! thank you:)

lurkinmcclerkin 2020-10-07 19:44

Well done buddy! As I said during the stream fantastic entry. The mechanics worked well and the overall experience was fun. My only issues are the lack of visual feedback for killing zombies and that the power-ups were few and far-between. But I would like to see this expanded upon in some sort of official mobile release that would be really neat.

javasaurus 2020-10-07 19:57

@lurkinmcclerkin thank you for the kind words! The game actually runs on mobile! Aside from that, the power ups were a late addition, I agree they could use a rework... Not really sure what you mean by zombie feedback for death, that was what the blood particles were for. I wanted to make them explode into bodyparts but that was way out of scope... Thanks for playing !

thejohnyfeed 2020-10-07 21:36

Really interesting idea! It's simple, but still a lot of fun. At first i was a bit frustrated, because i didn't understand that i need to draw. I was just trying to shoot the enemies, lol. Also the artstyle and sounds is very nice. Great job!

javasaurus 2020-10-07 22:46

@thejohnyfeed I'm sorry you got frustrated at first, that really wasn't my intention. I should make a more clear video on it perhaps... Either way, thanks a lot for the precious feedback!

eldogg 2020-10-08 12:16

Cool game, I like that you have a character whose adventures you continue between compos. Animation is good, and the effects on the gates being destroyed looks cool. Was the gunshot sound really a cookie in a box? Good job.

javasaurus 2020-10-08 14:31

@eldogg Yep ! With a big portion of lucky manipulations and distortions, an echo and some other random things I don't remember, I'm no audio engineer whatsoever ^-^, but this was literally a stale cookie in a box that I was shaking about... I just figured it sounds exactly like a gunshot! I actually wanted to make a bone cracking sound using that... Figures how "good" I am at making up audio thingies... Honestly? I think this was the most lucky sound an amateur ever managed to get :D It also helps it fires really fast so it doesn't really "matter" all that much I suppose... Either way, thank you for playing ! :)

lllarso 2020-10-08 15:00

Hey JavaSaurus, I had a lot of fun playing your game. It is simple, but does the job right. It is also playable on a touchscreen, which is good thing. I prefer the game with the mouse. I liked the one liners and the design. Like @pennycook mentioned it would be nice allowing the player to purchase upgrades whenever they want. For example killing 100 Zombies would get you a bomb.

I also liked the feedback of the breaking fences. I knew when they are about to get destroyed.

Overall I had a good time with this game. Thanks again for your nice stream. Greetings from Grabby ;)

eldogg 2020-10-08 15:14

@javasaurus well it sounds fantastic, maybe you're no amateur after all. May have to borrow your technique and go buy some cookies.

neragoth 2020-10-08 18:36

Godness, my aaaarm, my hannnd! I feel paaain :D haha! I love it. Even if its painful in the end, the idea is clever, well executed, and the sounds, the kill anims are so rad it feels good. Great one here!

javasaurus 2020-10-08 19:49

@lllarso Thank you for playing the game ! I'm very happy you liked it ! The power ups are indeed a bit "vague" at best, but it is the best I could do in just an hour's time :p (it was really last moment addition and I'm happy I did !!! )

@eldogg be sure to get double chocolate chip and at least 2 weeks over their expiry date haha :p

@neragoth I'm sorry for the pain !!!! It hurts less on mobile or using a stylus... I never considered the pain :( Thanks for playing ! :)

marcmagus 2020-10-09 15:36

**Crash Thunderstud** is amazing design. This game knows exactly what it is and it leans hard into it from every design element. Core gameplay loop was fun, although I could only play a couple of times before drawing tiny loops on my trackball made my wrist start to hurt. I might come back and try it on my tablet with a stylus sometime for less pain.

duke 2020-10-09 23:14

Wow, that's a LOT of content for a compo. Art, sound (voices!), music and even a kind of innovative way of shooting zombies. That must've been some hellish 48 hours. And it shows :P The result is really cool! the humor is on point and the assets are all over the top. To be honest, the controls got a little annoying after a while and the game was rather easy, so a natural game over was out of the question for now. Swinging the mouse about to shoot zombies may fit the theme, but is not the most user friendly way to to deal with this kind of problem, I'd say :D Still, it was definitely worth the experiment. I guess there is no actual ending, is there? (other than game over)

In conclusion, you finished a real impressive piece of software here. I can only sit here in awe and and think how this can be possible. Keep it up!

honest-dan 2020-10-09 23:20

You do such great games solo! Your audio and visuals are solid, and I think you managed to introduce what seemed a novel game mechanic! It felt a bit difficult to me, like I was always playing catch up and not being too tactical. I wonder if there could have been barrels or explosives on the battle field spawning to give some element of strategy to it.

week-of-the-agents 2020-10-10 09:13

Theme fit idea, Duke Nukem-type character, do we need more? Not bad.

justcamh 2020-10-10 14:28

Heyo, I played your game on stream! Here's the vod if you wanna rewatch; https://www.twitch.tv/videos/765804766

Thanks for submitting your game!

hanna-knop 2020-10-10 16:51

Omg, I am just in love with the art work! It's super cool and together with the music- what an awesome mood. Love it :)

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-10 16:56

I like the theme and music of the game, it's badass and fun to play.

cogcomp 2020-10-10 17:05

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Very addictive just circling the zombies over and over until they're all splattered. Love the puns. Feels very Duke Nukem inspired :-) Well done! I'll be playing this a bit more now :-)

javasaurus 2020-10-10 17:14

@marcmagus Thanks for playing it sir ! I'm glad you had fun prior to the pain, I'm still sorry about that.

@duke There indeed is no real ending, that was unfortunately out of scope here. I made the last hour all about voice lines, no more room for other stuff ! :) Glad you enjoyed it !

@honest-dan Thank you for the kind words! There actually were barrels and explosives on the menu, but I pushed them to the backlog to give priority to the voice lines, as I am hoping they'll give me a better score in 2 categories (audio and humor)

@week-of-the-agents Glad you like Crash Thunderstud !

@justcamh Thank you for playing it on stream, it was very enjoyable seeing someone play my game. Most welcome and feel free to submit yours on my stream !

@hanna-knop Thank you for the kind words !

@tricky-fat-cat Thank you, excited you liked it !

@cogcomp Thank you for the feedback :D I might have to rebuild the concept into a full blown mobile game after all ... Hmmmmm !

gamesplusjames 2020-10-10 20:35

This was great! The shooting mechanic was lots of fun, once i understood that you are supposed to keep the button held down (although my wrist is a bit sore now :D ). I loved all the voice lines you added to the game, and the pixel art style worked really well. Great job!

blue-pin-studio 2020-10-10 21:59

Good game submission! The looping mechanic wasn't immediately clear to me when i launched the game because i didnt read the game description. In a jam scenario a lot of people skip over the description of the game since it usually has lore and other non-critical information, so perhaps look into making an ingame instructions. I found the vibration for the shooting was too intense, perhaps ease it down. Also it was strange that my character needed to reload even if he didnt shoot, it seems to be tied to how long i was holding down the loop. At the end, i realized it was easier to just hold down left click on the enemies instead of circling them.

kaldrin 2020-10-10 22:32

Very interesting take on the theme, I liked it! I'd say it works for a little game but the circling lacks juice! You got nice audio even if the zombie sound get repetitive, and the game looks decent! Congrats for this entry ^^

elysiagriffin 2020-10-11 18:13

Theres a minor glitch when you press play multiple times, it waits first to finish the last play call.

javasaurus 2020-10-12 08:07

@gamesplusjames Hey buddy ! Thanks for playing :) I've taken the general comments about the gameplay into account and while it originally was working pretty decently on mobile, I've changed the looping mechanic a bit in the post-jam version, now you don't need to keep the button down AND the loop lasts a bit longer on its own! Feel free to play again :)

@blue-pin-studio Thanks for playing ! The screen shake for the shooting is actually related to how long Crash is shooting. I suppose it's less relevant now and that's something left-over from an earlier concept during development. I'll try to tone it down in the post jam maybe :) Thanks for the feedback ! And indeed, the "reload" mechanism was intended to prevent the player from endlessly circling, it was actually an attempt to reduce stress on wrist movements. But this is all resolved in the post-jam ! Lovely !

@kaldrin Thank you for the feedback ! What exactly do you mean with "lack juice", I'm interested to implement this in the post-jam :) The zombie sounds were a really really really last minute kind of thing, I think I had about 1hour left to do the voice lines properly. Thank you so much !

@elysiagriffin Heeeey Elysia, queen of the LD rating streams ! Thank you for playing it, as always, it was fun seeing you play my game :)

@rangoiv Hey there ! Thank you for letting me know, I'll try to tackle this in the post jam.;. That is actually a nice catch ! :)

kaldrin 2020-10-12 11:22

@javasaurus You're welcome! What I mean by the juice is how the game feels to play, in terms of feedbacks and stuff happening on screen for the player's actions, look it up on internet you'll find tons of information, "juiciness" ^^ (But maybe you already know it and are just confused by my comment) But it's just me being nitpicky, it's just a detail ^^

ursagames 2020-10-13 03:59

ectucker1 2020-10-13 04:45

The gameplay here reminds me a lot of the capture mechanics from Pokemon Ranger, and those fit the theme in a really engaging way. Things got a bit repetitive for me after a while; I was able to keep the zombies off of the car without too much effort. Increasing the difficulty as time goes on might be a good solution to keep things tense. I love the overall aesthetic though (especially the narration); it felt like a cheesy action movie in the best way. Well done!

javasaurus 2020-10-13 08:34

@ectucker1 Thanks for playing !!!!! Yes, I did ran out of time to add more content, I was planning to add zombie variations... The difficulty does ramp up effectively but maybe I should have made it a bit more "intense". It's always hard to balance these things in a jam right, if it is too hard people will not play it long enough to see all the content...if it isn't hard enough people will lose interest pretty fast. It's a very valuable point you bring there should I take this to a full release ! :)

@ursagames Thanks SO much for playing and the review ! :) Hope you've enjoyed it !

@kaldrin I'll keep that in mind for post jam updates :D I'll try to come up with something "juicy" to make it more satisfying :) For the jam purposes, I had to roll with a simple line renderer for time's sake :D

danielblanco3d 2020-10-15 06:23

So great idea! I love the use of the theme, nice pixel art and zombie voices are really funny. Congrats!z.png

javasaurus 2020-10-17 08:32

@danielblanco3d Thank you so much ! Very glad you enjoyed the game :)

wendel-scardua 2020-10-17 17:02

I loved everything here, the humor, the game play, the pixel art and its animation, the writing and recording of Crash's lines - all that must've took a lot of DEADication :)

toccio94 2020-10-23 09:42

I've played the jam version (then the fixed one but I'll review the jam one!) and ended up with 30-35k score.

Being a compo game, it is very polished and packaged. Visually is very nice and the music fits the game pretty well. Sounds effect are really satisfying and, considering also the speaker voice, makes the game humorous.

The idea for the game is interesting, but I think that it should have had more depth. I'll try to explain. You have to circle the zombies to hit them, but that's more or less about it, it's not so different from plain aim and click. If the circle thing had more impact I would have liked it more, while now it just seems a weird and annoying way to aim and stay on theme. Sure the circle slow down zombies but I don't think it's enough to justify it (usually slow down happens in aim and click too tbh). I'm trying to think at a solution but can't come up with one, maybe the circle should create a little fence that trap the zombies, dunno. It's also not so clear what to do at the beginning even though you can learn it just by playing.

Fence health was also a bit hard to judge, I guess its health is split for every part of it, but I'm not sure and I'm not sure when it is about to break so which side I should protect more. Shops are also a bit weird/rushed, you improved it in the post jam version but also made it harder maybe (no more fence repair or maybe it costs a lot more).

Post jam though, with added zombies, is more interesting, nice to know that you worked on it more than (or then?!) just bug fixing.

Don't take me too harshly, the game is overall well done and as already said polished, and for a compo entry it's even more and I take it into account. My biggest issues is not about the realization itself but more about the core circle mechanic as a concept itself.

javasaurus 2020-10-24 19:01

@wendel-scardua Hey there ! Thanks for playing, I am so glad you liked the voice lines, they were an absolute necessity and I am proud that I managed to squeeze them in 1 hour before submitting ! @toccio94 I appreciate the feedback, it's very valuable and all is true. But as you said, this is a compo game and jams are THE occasion to experiment with new mechanics and features :) So in a sense I am glad to be rewarded with positive feedback that the looping mechanic is "interesting" at least! Thank you so much for playing !

rewzu 2020-10-26 22:17

That is interesting take on the theme. Overall the game seems quite polished and has a lot of content as for compo. Can't complain about anything. Great game!
