WOW, I love the ending :o super vibe, very funny graphics, love it!!!

publicidadeba 2021-10-05 17:03

The fact that this game only has one comment goes to show how Jams can be cruel at time. This such a pro game in so many levels. Humor, Art, Theme...the list goes on. You guys did a homerun!

ekilibr 2021-10-05 19:10

Great execution on a simple but well functionning idea. Screen shake has some Vlambeer vibes :) Really enjoyed playing it, thanks a lot!

aditon 2021-10-05 19:15

This game is really fun and creative. I had a blast flying around and burning thousands with my boosters

owlycode 2021-10-05 19:18

The level of polish on this entry is insane. Controlling the ship feels awesome, the atmosphere re-entry with the shake and the smoke, wow!

One thing that is a cons to me is that I don't see the theme that much in it.

wouter52 2021-10-05 19:18

Wow I'm blown away by the quality of this game. I love it! The graphics are cute and the controls are easy to learn, but hard to master. The graphics are top notch and the whole game feels polished and solid. I love the little humans, it reminds me a lot of Lemmings. Good luck!

erikkire 2021-10-05 19:18

Best looking game I have seen this year! So well done with graphics, animation, sound, music, mood, and most important, fun to play. Well done! This will go far.

dominium11 2021-10-05 19:21

Okay my first thought was that it's way too loud on the loading. I also really like how you really need to lift off the same way it happens in real life, not by going directly up. Solid entry, what bugged me most was the loud sounds.

tomtomgome 2021-10-05 19:25

A game of an overall great quality. It feels very polish with no bugs and a solid concept. The game is not perfect but it's difficult to pin point where are its defects, and that's a very good thing

skleembof 2021-10-05 19:27

This is the most polished jam game I've ever played. The idea is simple, and the mechanics aren't too complicated but they're tight and work very well. The graphics and sound effects are amazingly well done for such a short time span. Great job

stefan-b 2021-10-05 19:29

on point and innovative shop controls. I somehow managed to have half of my survivors follow me jump up the capsule building and then never coming down again :)

hwaet 2021-10-05 19:30

This was fun! The thrust *felt* super fast, there's lots of good juice in this game :) I was a mean pilot and burnt half the planet to a crisp instead of saving them. Oops

dan-colman 2021-10-05 19:30

Nice job! beautiful graphics, sound, multi stage gameplay is cool. Only minor design question i have - didn't know if there was a time limit or not. Great work!

wamien 2021-10-05 19:32

I wasn't exactly sure how to navigate around the planet so it took me a little bit of time before getting used to it. But I managed to save 185 people (some people don't like fire, idk why :weary:) ahah I loved the pixel art, the way that the planet is made is interesting.

I didn't try my luck landing on the platforms but I just did a 180 after entering a planet and landit, not sure that the little guys in the ship liked to G-force applied :joy:

zahab-aq 2021-10-05 19:37

Really good! My brother was watching me play this, and he couldn't believe this was done in 3 days. That's a testament to how good the overall vibe is.

The graphics and game feel are especially well done. The audio was good as well, however, I felt it got too repetitive eventually. It was also too loud, so it was a bit jarring for me.

I did encounter some bugs when trying to climb ladders, where it would just bonk me back. I also think that the process of acquiring passengers was a little too repetitive and cumbersome considering the short limit on how many you can "hold" at once. Since there was no time limit that I'm aware of, it just felt a little too slow to me.

Ignoring that, this was very well done. The game feel, especially the controlling of the ship was very juicy. The art of the planet itself, and the merging of 2D and 3D for that (it sure felt like it), was done well.

All in all, I really enjoyed this one, although the some things such as slow speed and tedious tasks kept me from giving this a higher score than I did. Well done!

hacktier 2021-10-05 19:38

I died. Was an awesome game! Unfortunately I killed almost every single person.

amkingtrp 2021-10-05 19:51

I was really impressed by the presentation of this; worked really well. Would be interested in seeing a "making of".

Not sure what happened at the end though; went very glitchy (maybe that was the point?).

rengo 2021-10-05 20:03

sus

andreas-roschal 2021-10-05 20:41

Visually and atmospherically super pleasing and good gameplay.

The only thing I'm kinda missing is the connection to the theme.

rufson 2021-10-05 20:57

Thank you all for the comments! We worked hard on it until the last minute. @amkingtrp Yes, that was the point. Grats that u make it to the very end! Thank you. @andreas-roschal @owlycode Humanity fleeing a planet in danger is a very unstable situation. Best

tombuston 2021-10-05 20:59

Great graphics! The polish is impressive. Asteroids and satellites were a bit cruel sometimes but overall the game is really fun! Well done and thank you for your game!

rufson 2021-10-05 21:08

@zahab-aq) Thank you for the feedback.

2021-10-05 21:51

The game is super fun ,like old school 8 bit style. It was great to play it. Best regards to author(s).

bernard-bumblebutt 2021-10-05 23:50

Great job on this! I loved how the spaceship had different states based on if it was still in the atmosphere. I also loved the desolate area on earth, really well put together. The landing was interesting with having to rotate. Great job!

juanrod707 2021-10-05 23:54

Beautiful game, great polish and concept. Had fun killing 141 people

idenoh 2021-10-06 01:57

Absolutely excellent, great polish all around. I found myself wanting to save all of the humans and was heartbroken when a botched landing ended 12 lives, but it was ONLY 12...or so I thought. Turns out jumping off of a platform with 50 people aboard your ship is bad, whoops! great entry, an absolute joy to play.

pk-c 2021-10-06 02:01

one of my personal favorite for this jam

rufson 2021-10-06 02:26

@idenoh haha, thank you. Did you get pilot into the moon capsule? :rocket: :new_moon: @pk-c I appreciate that

idenoh 2021-10-06 02:34

@rufson I did! It took some doing but I got there

lvl76blastoise 2021-10-06 03:16

I laughed out loud when I jumped off the side of the platform and pancaked. I love the sounds and the art style!

haivron 2021-10-06 03:18

From the intro scene to the ending, it feels like a complete game! Polished very well, absolutely loved the SFX. Amazing game for a solo developer, congratulations!

richard-baron 2021-10-06 03:26

Damn...this is amazing in so many ways except that it's not fun :( I was so stoked to play this after seeing your posts, and even launching it up i was blown away by the scrolling text, the title screen, the art, the effects, the audio. All incredible. But making me run around super slow for three minutes to pick up 100 passengers....i couldn't tolerate it. Why not just have them queue up and run themselves? There's no point to the running around on the rock game-play so why make it such a focal point? Why not reduce the total passenger population by 10x so you can get on with the cool stuff? Baffling why you'd ruin such a PERFECT AMAZING MIND BLOWING submission with such a poor choice. Anyway, sorry to get so dramatic but it made me sad that this wasn't as dope as I went in hoping it would be.

paruthidotexe 2021-10-06 03:39

cool game and fun to play Art looks cool..

crumson 2021-10-06 03:40

giving this VERY high ratings. I think the sprites could have been a little more complex, other than that its incredible. I love the huge scope of gameplay, orbiting bodies and space travel. I lost a LOT of people to the satalites. I envy the souls I crushed with the spaceship that didnt have to live on the hell planet.

zpika 2021-10-06 03:47

Wow, I'm out of words for this one, my favourite submission yet!!! Good job you guys. I'll definitely replay this and show it to my friends

thomz12 2021-10-06 04:16

Very fun game, and very good job on polishing! The graphics make the game very intresting to play and watch. Picking up the people did feel a bit like a chore, but flying and landing was really fun.

Very solid entry! Great job!

bomdiajj 2021-10-06 04:29

WOW! loved the cinematic feel, the sounds, the art and it's pretty fun! the only bad thing is that I wished I could carry more people around in the moon, circling it multiple times made me a little dizzy. Awesome entry though

guinytime 2021-10-06 06:30

A very complete game, the art and music are great, the game is dazzling at the end. Unfortunately, I still had eight people I couldn't save, who died in the rocket's tail fire

hermeses 2021-10-06 06:50

Great game! Loved the combination of 2D and 3D! Pretty fun moving the spaceship.

ashley-gb 2021-10-06 07:37

A neat, fun little game!

hadik 2021-10-06 10:29

Chmm, that game is really fun, good for you :). I love mood in this game, awesome. You art is masterpiece, very good job. I like that audio, very good. Overall that game is good, good job.

megamasterx 2021-10-06 12:11

This is probably one of the best, cleanest, and well executed games in LD49. I'm blown away. I hope this continues to get worked on post-dare!

cubebuc 2021-10-06 12:12

This one is pretty fun. Although, I hate those meteoroids, because they hit me all the time

as-you-like-101 2021-10-06 12:12

realy nice game

contro1990 2021-10-06 12:15

I really love everything from this game! Graphics, music, controls, everything was done perfectly!

peterfiftyfour 2021-10-06 12:19

Holy the audio is great. what did you use? sounds like some fancy fmod shiiit cos god damn it was sounding good. Visually amazing too. The gameplay was a bit janky at times but man worth it for the overall vibe. I feel like this style is crying out to be used for some kinda scifi adventure game? Ok did the same composer work on hum? That looks sick too! Will keep an eye out for your other work!

davision 2021-10-06 12:21

From the graphics it looks really polished the gameplay however could use some work. I found it rather tedious to lead the people to the ship without anything interesting to do except getting stuck on the ladder which appears to have some glitches or am I just bad at climbing ladders. (Maybe if the player would move x5 it would be much better) I also didn't understand why some of them won't follow me and I have to go multiple times. Furthermore I also didn't understand why everyone left the rocket as I left it and I have to lead them all in all over again. These are mostly easy things to tweak though except ladders, ladders in games are hard. The rocket was more fun and maybe a bit too much fun burning all the people in my wake instead of rescuing them.

aleh 2021-10-06 12:21

It is fun game. the game sets right mood. I love it. is it possible left orbit?

mrschlag2 2021-10-06 12:39

Really nice graphics and music ! it gives a very cool mood to the game. The gameplay is a bit punitive. The spaceship could have had more than one health or be reverted to the landing pad after death. People gathering phase is may be a bit to long. Thanks for this game though !

namnam 2021-10-06 12:47

Pretty nice :) First I was a bit confused but that's because some of the tuto didn't load and it wasn't obvious to use all three arrow to launch the rocket. But once I reload everything went weel, I really liked the mood set by the graphics and the sound (espacialy loved the people noises :) ) I found the moon and save a bunch of pepoles but didn't had the patience to do all the goings and comings to save everyone :/

fernando-henriq 2021-10-06 12:50

Realy good!

deav 2021-10-06 12:52

This game is crazy good!

Viusals are one of the best of this jam, the pixl art is top notch and I love the screen shakes and other effects - they create a really cool vibe :) Even the intro transition into gameplay is made super creatively, this kind of polish is rarely seen in game jam games, considering how little time there is to make such details!

Gameplay is very solid too, but as some of the people commented before me, collecting people is kinda tedious and it feels like it spoils the game's flow a little. That is until you get to the ship, which is where the fun begins  I love flying mechanics, it's very fun to play around with, only thing which took me a little bit of time was how to start the rocket, I actually had to ALT+TAB to check the instructions on your itch.io page. But the whole thing is really fun.

Audio is okay. I mean, I love the soundtrack, and the intro's vibe which transitions into the main theme etc. is really good and I feel like the whole audio is great, but it has this kind of "sharp" feeling, which makes it hard to listen to after a while. I know it's an 8-bit themed music and that's how they sound like, but when all the sounds were on top of each other (theme + rocket launching + people screaming and dying in horrible way) it made it kinda chaotic.

Overall, a very well-made game!

ottodan 2021-10-06 12:55

I really enjoyed thrusting from earth and accidentally killing half of the population, and after I brought the other half to the moon I crashed into the capsules - really good game with nice graphics & sound! Only thing I got confused with was when getting stuck at the landing platform, I didn't get how to solve that problem and reloaded the game when it happened.

gus-goucher 2021-10-06 13:03

Crazy vibes! Loved the graphics, and it's tough as nails!! Everything was super juicy too! Probably my new favorite from this jam, sick as hell.

kypello 2021-10-06 13:04

This game is extremely well made!!! The pixel art is very well done and the parallax effect looks amazing. I don't know how you managed to make such a convincing sense of depth with only 2D pixel art. This is a very cool take on the theme and it is also extremely polished and fun. Excellent entry!!

Edit: Also out of curiosity, what engine this was made with?

hotowlgirls 2021-10-06 13:19

I like that the planet is so small that you can see it curve within the view of the camera, it makes the environment feel so much larger. Background city looks nice and the stars make the background feel more filled up. Solid game overall.

yumao 2021-10-06 13:20

I adore every pixel of this game!!! The atmosphere is really impressive. Great work!

preda 2021-10-06 17:06

Man this is a really cool looking game. All the effects, sound or visual where so nice. With all the feedback the player gets. Amazing game! Also, landing on people was fun

justaroom 2021-10-06 17:32

Ended up escaping with only 1 survivor - me. :)

rufson 2021-10-06 18:15

@justaroom) Haha, good :D

zackary-bazzle 2021-10-06 18:30

Amazing visuals and awesome job on graphics. The sound design was really good too and overall it was just a really fun game. If I had to critic it I would say that the music did get a little repetitive but it didn't really bother me that much. This was probably the best game I've played in this jam so far, Great Job!

rufson 2021-10-06 19:15

@kypello Sprites and logic was done in Construct 3 engine. Planets and stars are using Z elevation mode that is smth like a parallax but also works for rotation so sprites on different Z height made a 3D immersion. Thank you for playing

rufson 2021-10-06 19:20

@ottodan When stuck you need to sacrifice your pilot, jumping from the platform. On itch game page is info about this. Thank you for playing

apples-mmmmmmmm 2021-10-06 20:52

Nice submission! Great graphics. Sound seemed fitting but could definitely use a lot of adjustment as far as volume is concerned. I like the concept, and the game loop seems pretty good in general. I noticed myself having issues with the ladders quite a few times, and landing the ship seems a bit unintuitive at first (but maybe that's not a bad thing), it's also difficult to tell how many people you have following you since they overlap the people you're trying to pick up, maybe some text showing how many followers out of a max follower count would be good. So you aren't running farther than needed to check if you're still picking up new followers.

rufson 2021-10-06 21:38

@peterfiftyfour Thank you. Yes, the same composer: "Mchy i Porosty" For the vfx sounds we used Bfxr and for music fruit loop & analog synth, people noises is a voice generator with pitch filter. @apples-mmmmmmmm) You are right. thank you for feedback :love_letter: @megamasterx If it gets to the top ten, then I will do post-dare! with players suggestions

rufson 2021-10-06 21:42

@aleh yes just hold together: Z+left and right arrow key or left+up+right arrow keys. Some laptops and keyboards don't allow to hold more than two arrow keys so you can use Z key as UP

reiqy 2021-10-06 22:00

This game looks great, some next level pixel art. The controls are bit clunky and I can land the ship just as well as I can land a ship in real life (with fireworks and bunch of burning people). It's humorous, I like it, enjoy it. Keep it up!

moddingmachine 2021-10-06 22:02

I love the little sound effects, and the dynamic sound with the rocket ships momentum. Now dont get me wrong, saving people is all cool, but mass genocide... I love that that is an option... This game is amazing, well done.

concker-88 2021-10-06 22:07

Really good game. Pixel art is on point, ship controls are nice and there's even a funny ending. My only real concern is that's a bit tedious to board people into the ship. I would have probably also add a timer, but it's highly debatable.

the-lame-brain 2021-10-06 22:11

I like this game! I do have a wish list: 1. Like @richard-baron I would have preferred that the ship not have as high a load as it does. 2. I wish it had a skip intro button

Minor complaints, both!

Cheers! [-LB](https://ldjam.com/users/the-lame-brain/)

rufson 2021-10-06 22:26

@the-lame-brain Thank you I will consider this in post-jam. 2. It is already there but hidden by accident just press "S" (I will fix that) :rocket:

nefylem 2021-10-06 22:31

I found collecting people a bit tedious, although the first time I tried it I found a bug where jumping pushed me away from the platform, eventually restarted so I could get the ship in the air. But that was the only issue I had, was pretty fun

leyaotang 2021-10-06 22:55

The most interesting LD49 game in term of mechanics and mood too. Need to equalize the sound, and some sound design.

2021-10-06 23:48

Interesting mechanics but the deaths often felt unfair because obstacles appeared too fast, the planets-ring is too narrow and jumping on people kills the player and people? Also collecting Persons takes a whole lot of time while nothing really happens - I'd add something to this part and let all people walk in as soon as the player reaches his ship, going beyond the ship so people hop in, means I have to go back after boarding all passengers which is basically backtracking.

And there is a bug - when leaving earth, then landing back on it again, all passengers leave the ship .. on earth .. xD And on the moon, if you run the cycle in the wrong direction, passengers board again but won't leave the ship even when leaving and re-entering moon. So basically I killed everyone exept for the very first flight. Moon Delivery could be faster too, as nothing happens while moving people around.

Why all this critique? Because you said you are making a post-jam version and the post-jam version should be as good as possible. ^^

Other than that it's a very moody game, fun gameplay, the spaceship controls are interesting and everything feels like it has lot's of force. Generally the game-feel is great.

mysticgames 2021-10-07 01:24

Good Game I Bit Hard To Know What I Was Doing But Other Than That Great Game

artonix 2021-10-07 01:45

Absolutely agree with previous comment. Want a mobile-friendly version.

jitspoe 2021-10-07 02:16

Nice graphics -- Really cool parallax effect. My main complaint is that the volume is LOUD. Like REALLY LOUD. I had to drop the volume of my entire web browser down to like 10%.

rufson 2021-10-07 02:19

@artonix working on this in post-jam version. Thank you for playing

dgspitzer 2021-10-07 02:46

Super hilarious when realizing there is friendly kill in the game (accidentally vaporized 100 people) , nice job done!

t-r-e-f-e-t-h-e-n 2021-10-07 03:02

My guy, this one slapped. I'm on my way to the hospital. I'm dying. THe slalp. GADDDOmmmmm

t-r-e-f-e-t-h-e-n 2021-10-07 03:05

But really though, well done. This game is gorgeous and the loop is super entertaining, and the incidental humor from accidentally killing survivors is really good. I think the only thing that needs a little bit of work is making the collection phase a bit more engaging. Thanks so much for making this, it was a blast!

outfrost 2021-10-07 04:18

I loved the depth of this game. So many little things that either influence how you play, or just happen in the background, and so intuitively and with no explanation needed. Super neat. The game had issues playing in Firefox, so I didn't quite experience the sound the way it was meant to, and the fullscreen-on-click was a little annoying, but these are generally excusable technical difficulties with the Web :) Great fun overall, I really enjoyed it.

dragonsheep 2021-10-07 05:26

Sadly I found the gameplay a bit tedious - having to round everybody up was kind of a chore, and I was a bit unsatisfied with the challenge level. This has the potential to be an interesting game, but I think the mechanics need work.

human-writes-code 2021-10-07 05:31

This is a super polished, beautiful game! At first I felt sorry for the poor schmos that got burned to death the first time I took off but then I reached the end of the game and... well... maybe dead is better? The presentation, controls, music and just general idea of the game were so well done! Literally my only gripe is that the sound was probably too loud and drowned out the music when you were tearing through space. Other than that, it's just an amazing game! Great work!

simpathey 2021-10-07 05:37

I really liked the game, I only wish there was more action in the parts where you are gathering people. It was super atmospheric and self explanatory which is pretty awesome in a game jam entry.

nshbae 2021-10-07 05:39

Nice game! Like your gravity mechanics! Feels like the game 'outer world' in 2D!

phobos001 2021-10-07 05:51

Very pretty game! Controls took some time to learn, a few people died (._.') But it was very fun!

My Initial Playthrough had some very strange bugs happen though. If it helps I was playing on Firefox on Linux. You can see it here: https://youtu.be/e4h0rIEgsWc

Fantastic work, and great game! Best of luck with the jam o7

poovi 2021-10-07 05:52

This is cool game. Loved the graphics. Reminded me of Galaga for some reason. The music could have been a little better. It was too much to the ears i felt. Keep making amazing games. :)

adrian-guevara 2021-10-07 05:54

Everybody says arts is good and bla bla. But the game is well programmed too!! I got ya bros

peachtreeoath 2021-10-07 05:57

How is this game so unbelievably cool? I'll try to point out stuff people aren't already praising to the best of my ability.

1. You can exit the ship in space. There is literally no reason to do this. That's why it's so impressive you put it in. 2. The fact that you have to hold left and right for boosters just feels so **good**. Though a lot part of that was the intense juice you put in when you go at full speed. 3. Putting the queue line for the capsule. Yet again, no true gameplay reason to do this but it added so much to the experience. It made it feel like a living world that was still going on in the BG even after you flew off the moon. The vast majority of devs would've just given you points as soon as they touched that base.

I think overall you did an amazing job of anticipating what players would want to do and experiment with. Just wanna run down people with your ship's exhaust? Got it. Have great surprising moments like getting hit with a capsule? Check.

One of the most surprising entries I've seen in a while, I was impressed around every corner. Truly amazing.

aevek 2021-10-07 06:02

Looks absolutely gorgeous. On my first attempt I did not realize the consequences of my actions and only 6 people lived, but I had a great time. That space station really is an inconvenience when you're carrying half of the remaining humans, but the real thing that got me was not realizing I had to lead the people into the building at the end and then on one particularly hot approach melted most of the remaining humans. Whoops. Amazing game.

rhoka 2021-10-07 07:56

Great job here! Loved all the attention to detail. I got a bit too confident after a successful first full load and blew up everyone else. I liked that you have to be careful about where you were flying in atmosphere or you would burn people as I did when I tried to go to a new platform so I wouldn't have to walk as far. The flying felt really good however the space stations felt a bit too punishing. I know you're going for a dark tone, but when they come out of nowhere with no warning and you're done in 1 hit it feels a bit bad. Also I did get a bit dizzy walking around the circle of the moon delivering people because the radius was so tight. Last note I had was that the audio is a bit too loud in some places. It was fine for the most part but the end sequence was far too loud and I already had my headphones pretty low. Other than that really great job and really great pixel art!

xpoho 2021-10-07 11:27

Пожалуйста, пристегните ремни. Время полета составит три световых года. Во время полета вы можете использовать криокамеры. Если вдруг вам станет скучно, можете воспользоваться шлюзом в открытый космос. Спасибо.

kr4ft3r 2021-10-07 15:42

Well, 11 survivors isn't too bad :P But seriously, just wow. This is a game where I don't care if I actually had fun, how good the controls were, how much it sticks to the theme etc.. All I want now is to play an interplanetary RPG with these graphics and engine.

justinmullin 2021-10-07 16:45

Well that was dark! Simply incredible polish, all of the animations and effects are jaw dropping. I especially loved the first time the ship went to top speed to the moon. Great stuff here! The gameplay itself was pretty tedious, I found myself wishing I could just have the back and forth trips automated away so I could watch the pretty game. It's relatively short though, and the eye candy and nice audio was plenty to keep me occupied through to the end. Excellent work here!

jin9310 2021-10-07 17:39

The best thing I have seen around so far. Love the atmosphere, although the ingame music feel bit too agressive :) But other that this I have really nothing to complaint about. Really great entry and the take on the theme!

robonaut121 2021-10-07 18:04

I felt terrible for my 82 casualties. I felt even worse at the end. :'-( Still, it was a great game in terms of polish and sound design. The gameplay was mildy annoying, but I still didn't give up because I was going to save these people! (Ahem, well...)

Also, I noticed that if you jump off a ledge, you die of fall damage, but then you get yeeted back into your ship and everyone in the ship becomes a casualty - not sure is this intentional, but I had no idea what was going on anyway.

cheng92524 2021-10-07 18:18

great game play. I very enjoy the sounds design and the why to play it.

tom-robson 2021-10-07 19:47

Awesome job! This is a super unique game, but it's also really impressive to have pulled it all off in a jam. You have so many different elements going on, yet they all work so well! How you pulled it all of to such a high standard in 72 hours is beyond me. You guys should be super proud.

My only concern is that the sound was a bit grating - the music was pretty good, but way too loud, and a lot of the other sounds were just too high pitched for me.

jitspoe 2021-10-07 19:51

VOD from when I played, on the off chance you want to go back and watch it again: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1169455753?t=2h33m50s

flywolfe 2021-10-08 04:58

Wow, awesome game! Really love the atmosphere you get from the sound and the graphics! Feels really awesome to play as well. And I love the way the ship controls and how it feels to rocket at full speed between the moon and the Earth. The only problem I had with it is jumping off the platform kills you and everyone in your ship. And I jumped off that platform a lot out of habit lol. Great game!

ytaha 2021-10-08 09:35

Best graphics I've ever seen on an ld game. Feels super polished and the even tho its not pixel perfect with like filters etc it feels like it somehow :D I am still curious how you made those plants on the earth they look so 3D with a depth on them. A run button would hugely help since its not really fun to collect people going right to left repetitively. When you reach the ship all people that are following you should enter the ship automatically.

leokrechmer 2021-10-08 12:19

Great mechanics, a lot of fun and great atmosphere! Amazing arts! Just... Just pretty ready-for-greenlight game, polished and fun to play. Great mood!

r3dleg 2021-10-08 13:05

Wow! Super engaging and the execution is just on point. I got a little bug while gettin on the plattform (got sent back couple of inches) but overall super well done!

curleysam 2021-10-08 17:22

Great game, I absolutely loved the art! It was very polished. I liked the font for the menus too it all tied together nicely! I also really liked the earth art, with all the layers. It looked great! amazing job putting this together, well done 😁

johnsensei 2021-10-08 17:32

Interesting graphics.

michaelgamerus 2021-10-08 17:53

pixel art is soooo well done, i like it

deltamain 2021-10-08 18:42

Pixel perfect graphics is awesome. Liked right everything in here!

recursor 2021-10-08 19:00

This is such a well-polished game with great pixel graphics and good sfx. I especially like the sfx for picking up and dropping off the people. When I got too close to some of the poor survivors and burned them with my engine exhaust, I was delighted because I didn't expect that. Well done!

very-bad-bunny-studio 2021-10-08 19:10

What great work...I check your profile and that's you second ludum dare...what evolution! I play the game for hours at work.Really great job!

laurari 2021-10-08 20:03

nice graphics and music!! the movement of the camera on the moon was weird, because it was not fast enough to follow the player and maybe too much camera shake, but I like the idea!! good job

mhorth 2021-10-08 21:25

Everyone's already told you most of the stuff I would say, so I'll try not to be too repetitive. One exceptional piece was the rotational parallax in the skyscrapers and the grass(?) in the foreground. Not sure how you managed to make it look like the ground was covered in fog, but great job all around on your art.

- I had difficulty climbing ladders very often, not sure if it was something I was doing wrong or just bugs. - The gameplay changing on the moon was a really nice touch, like jumping higher. However, the camera being so slow to catch up with player's rotation actually made me nauseous on the moon. I wanted to keep playing the game to see the end, but I actually had to close my eyes while running around the moon. - The explosion sfx at the end of the game are cranked up a bit too high.

Those complaints are so minor and easy to fix, so hopefully you realize I'm not calling it a bad game, those were just literally the only things standing between your game and absolute perfection. The rest was amazing, great job!

rufson 2021-10-09 01:21

@mhorth The fog effect is a illusion, sprites are stacked from far to close with 0 opacity to 100% Construct 3 engine has a nice Z elevation mode so you can put sprites closer to the camera like in a real 3D engine, so when you moving around the planet and moon they appears to be in 3D. There is some bugs and this need fixing in the post-jam version. There are also some details: - you can go out of the ship in space(maybe this will be used for gamplay mechanics in the next version) - Every 10 saved people dimms building lights

Thank you for playing & feedback

Cheers!

rufson 2021-10-09 01:38

@curleysam Nice to hear that and thank you. Actually this is my third jam, long time ago I did Milk Teeth for LD34 http://wip.warpdoor.com/tag/milk-teeth/ but unfortunately the game itself is offline :(

flomino 2021-10-09 02:50

this game is positively oozing with style. ...i may or may not be responsible for the deaths of hundreds. oops.

proxy-games 2021-10-09 08:26

I love the presentation in this game-this is some high-quality pixel art and well-designed audio. The idea for it is also one I haven't seen yet for this jam, and the same goes for the gameplay. Taking people to the moon while desperately trying NOT to get them killed is very fun (I'm sorry to the 74 I killed because I slam head first into the moon accidently on my first try). It does feel like satellites appear a little too quickly? I don't feel like I'm able to respond to them as much as just let them happen. In a way, it does work with the chaotic nature of the game, so it doesn't bother me too much. Overall, this was a really cool and fun experience to mess with. I hope to continue to not kill people with my 'Kerbal Space Program'-level rocket ship piloting skill.

sephowepho 2021-10-09 15:39

Epic entry! I love the graphics and how strange the ship is to fly! The audio is amazing and all in 3 days!!! Like I said before, EPIC!!!

holyblackcat 2021-10-09 17:05

Simple gameplay, but crazy good graphics and mood. Great job!

tatu-heinamaki 2021-10-09 17:37

Fantastic graphics and crunchy sounds! I managed to kill myself a few times by jumping of a platform - resulting in an explosion of the ship and death of the people inside it. Oh well! Controls felt just hard enough, not super challenging to play but just enough so there's some pressure in landing the ship. I'd prefer having the trail of people behind you automatically get on to the ship when you are on the platform, but this might be just a design decision and not a problem! Loved how the explosions and fx were cranked to the max in the very end!

codeman1010 2021-10-09 21:29

Absolutely amazing!

jpgfg 2021-10-10 04:27

Complete homerun, pretty funny when you can blast civilians with the exhaust from your ship.

ivan-garcia-filho 2021-10-10 15:25

Damn!!!! That What an Epic entry!!! Even the teaser is catchy!!!

toxiccomputer 2021-10-10 15:46

Holy moly! Fantastic job, the visuals are incredible!

alexej 2021-10-10 15:50

couldn't save anybody, but I also didn't care... was fun

naali 2021-10-10 16:05

Great graphics and SFX/Music. I died a few times by jumping off the landing pads with my person which felt a bit unfair. Dark ending.

piper-thompson 2021-10-10 16:13

Loved the sound design!!!!

jusw85 2021-10-10 18:16

The graphics and gameplay is amazing. I think it might be help to add that 'S' skips the intro in the instructions. Also, the audio felt a little 'sharp' for me after awhile. Regardless, I loved it. Great entry!

joror 2021-10-10 19:32

Great visuals and nice gameplay with humor. The controls are... a bit clunky for sure. Especially the takeoff from Earth is strange. (holding all three keys doesn't always launch you, somehow?) The circular visuals are nicely done - music glitchy but fun. In the end I saved a few people... then decided that toasting the rest was faster. :D But it was a trap!

dsoberdan 2021-10-10 20:47

Love the z-layering effect, the rocket booster effect is amazing, and the voice effects of the NPCs, particularly when they are dying under the rocket booster lol.

Critical feedback wise, I thought the walking sound effect was a bit grating, and walking around slowly to collect a ship-full of people felt too long and a bit boring. But I'd say that is in comparison to how fun all of the other aspects of the game are! Maybe if we were able to pick up more people at a time that could be improved. Excited to see a post-jam update!!

javicoder 2021-10-10 23:13

fantastic. I loved it, it's simple but super fun, and it's done with good visual taste.

megalukes 2021-10-11 05:11

I managed to kill everyone. Let's say I didn't save Earth this time, but I'll keep trying. Honestly this one really got me. I loved it. Everything in it is perfect and fun, well-made and pro. Congrats!

dinwy 2021-10-11 05:22

Such a nice game! I like the game play and artwork and everything. :)

sceef 2021-10-11 05:39

Good job, nice art, cool game

yellow-basti 2021-10-11 06:52

woooow... this is so dope! Well done! Pretty sure it will receive. very good rating. Love the start animation of the ship

cslupius 2021-10-11 07:12

Great Game

maximbegunov 2021-10-11 08:22

I really liked the style of pretty much everything, controls are good, the game is fun. My only complain is the very high speed of space debris, they are pretty much out of your control, the ship is pretty slow just after launching to try to dodge it.

yikescloud 2021-10-11 08:31

The planet is very cool. I don't know whether it's made in 3d or 2d, I love the parallax effect and the atmosphere. Though there is some small bugs and the ship is a bit hard to control when leave the planet, it's very fun to play it, great job!

gaming-night 2021-10-11 10:29

Wow, what a lovely pixel art style. Really liked the fact that you contextualist the game with background story :)

zevsehg 2021-10-11 11:07

Good game. I loved the graphics and this cool parallax effect. Start screen music is epic! Good job!

avi 2021-10-11 11:43

Beautiful game! I think I found a bug: I collected a few people into the ship, but then I was unable to climb the ladder/jump onto the ladder (I kept getting teleported to the right)!

gerrrard 2021-10-11 16:19

High quality of pretty much everything, but 2 things: if you die, all people in ship die too (why?) and sounds at the end are too loud

elysiagriffin 2021-10-11 17:53

Satisfying to fly in space at max speed, even more satisfying to crash the ship in max speed into the crowds on earth. Fun game.

rufson 2021-10-11 18:33

@avi Yep, this is a bug and will be fixed in post-jam version. Thank you for playing and feedback!

@gerrrard The pilot is connected to the ship with heart :) He have a little dot on his space suit. The sounds at the end are intentionally loud to make the player uncomfortable in this very dramatic situation. I'm glad you made it to the very end! Thank you :rocket:

@elysiagriffin I remember your pro Pilot skills :purple_heart: Hope the :lizard: will become the landlord!

jarno 2021-10-11 20:47

It's so difficult to take off, am I doing something wrong or is it really that painfully slow? Also I press the three keys in short succession (but keeping them all three down at the same time) since pressing them all three simultaneously as it tells me todo does... nothing :/

rufson 2021-10-11 20:55

@jarno Some keyboards don't allow to press 3 arrow keys together, but you can press Z instead of UP.

Z+LEFT+RIGHT or UP+LEFT+RIGHT and just hold them but remember the ship must be on the ground overlaping the blue path.

Please take a look here at tutorial https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/after-sun/best-pilot-tutorial

GOOD LUCK it's easy!

mharring 2021-10-12 00:25

Really enjoyed this one. The graphics, music and sound fit the game really well. As others have mentioned, I found a few minor bugs. 1. Sometimes climbing the ladder would throw me off 2. After being destroyed by a satellite the ship would be invisible but would still have the rocket flames shooting out, which was a little confusing for a few seconds before I actually exploded.

I also wish you could "pick up" more passengers at once, and it felt a little odd that you'd have to continue running in one direction until everyone made it into the ship - I would have assumed once you reached the ship they would all just climb on in. These notes are really a nitpick in case you decide to continue with the game because this game is great and you should be proud of what you accomplished in a weekend! Congrats!

neverwinsthegame 2021-10-12 23:08

I really enjoyed this game, rescuing the people was a challenge. The first time I jumped off the platform and killed a bunch, then I burned a bunch, but once I got the hang of it I got everyone to a capsule. I really liked the space travel concept, reminds me of the old lander while still being a fun play mechanic. The only tip I would leave is make the audio not so loud near the end, with headphones it was super loud.

subcreation 2021-10-13 18:07

This is a very stylish and attractive entry. What it lacks in depth of gameplay, it compensates for in artistic appeal.

The gameplay was well-introduced and explained, but grew to be somewhat tedious as I circled the moon again and again to bring parties to the capsule launch point. The space debris moves too fast relative to the rocket controls to realistically avoid, but maybe that is the bleak point in this intentionally joyless game. The repetitive gameplay without meaningful resistance left me with the impression that the game was about style over substance.

On the other hand, the art of this game is excellent. It perfectly sets the tone and boasts a double-pixelated style and feel that serves the experience and communicates clearly to the player. The parallax and smooth camera following help to elevate the high-quality art and make the world a pleasure to look at and interact with, dark as the atmosphere may be. This game is a great achievement given the jam format.

ideaspersecond 2021-10-14 00:44

General gameplay is tight, and the graphics are polished! I wish the camera was a bit more zoomed out when piloting the ship, however, as it is very easy to get blindsided by space debris without any warning or ability to react in time.

pat-cleaver 2021-10-14 12:56

very nice work! It took me a while to understand the controls properly, and there seems to be a bug where you keep getting teleported away from thje platform when trying to climb the stairs. I really enjoyed this when I got the hang of it though! Congrats

cassio-eduardo 2021-10-15 22:36

Aside from the jankyness of climbing the ladders from the platforms and the space junk that that comes at you way to fast, I very much enjoyed the game and the presentation (the planets specially look really good).

Your game has a similar-ish base idea to mine, including the rescue mechanic (even though it's optional in mine).

Good job.

hawkin 2021-10-16 00:11

Final casualties: 108. But I blame you guys for forcing a first-time pilot to take off with a minimum of 100 passengers on his first flight :P

But in all honesty, great submission. You implemented a lot of smart artistry and layering to make the whole environment feel very active and vibrant.

2021-10-16 12:52

Extremely good art style, I like the spaceship gameplay too. Picking up the people was maybe a bit slow, I wish the limit for number of people following you at any time was like 2x its current value. Other than that, really good entry!

ryjcio 2021-10-16 18:56

Amazing art style! Overally game is amazing! It was rly fun to fly this spaceship! One thing that I would try to solve is that gathering survivors for me is not engaging. I wish to have more opportunities to fly spaceship instead of going around planets by foot.

Great job folks!

robert-li 2021-10-16 21:55

I love the layers of waste on the planet! Good "waste land" vibe!!!

joeshanahan 2021-10-17 15:12

This game has a super pretty aesthetic, from the pixel art and FX all the way through to effective use of parallax - it looks really really good! It's got a pretty dark sense of humor too, when you make a mistake and accidentally murderise a bunch of people.

I didn't find the gameplay super engaging unfortunately, it was mostly just tedious walking back and forth collecting people with a seemingly arbitrary limit on how many can follow you, only to need to then unload them 21 at at a time too. The only challenge for me was remembering not to jump off the platform and kill everyone in the capsule (I did this more than once )

On my second ship full I accidentally hit a satellite and everyone died. That was kinda crushing so didn't really feel any incentive to go back and pick up the last remaining hundred people. If I could have got 100 at a time to follow me I think I would've done, but the number of trips I needed to take just put me off.

I think this game still deserves a pretty good score overall, it's such an impressive piece of work - I just wish there was a bit more to the gameplay so it didn't feel like such a chore to play.

homeworld 2021-10-17 19:18

Good effort! I wish there was some sort of tutorial/onboarding, not immediately apparent what you're supposed to do and how you're supposed to do it. Good job!

joeshanahan 2021-10-17 22:55

I edited and uploaded my playthrough to YouTube if you wanted to check it out

(I didn't realize until editing that the reason I was dying was because I kept jumping)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czUwIfbRrFQ

rufson 2021-10-18 14:55

@joeshanahan Thanks for the video and gameplay, You did well but I saw that you had problems with the quick launch of the rocket ;) maybe this will help https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/after-sun/best-pilot-tutorial

Best

joeshanahan 2021-10-18 15:04

Ah, you're supposed to stay inside the lines! Well that would've helped, but my main problem was pressing the buttons wasn't doing anything

I cut it out of the video, but a couple of times I spent almost 30 seconds attempting to make the rocket start by holding the buttons, and it just didn't do anything. I tried different combinations of how to start pressing them, holding them for longer, all sorts, but I never worked out a reliable way to make the engines kick in. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

EDIT: Reading some of the comments, it looks like left/right/up doesn't work reliably, but left/right/z works really well. That must've been what I was doing wrong!

rufson 2021-10-18 15:10

@joeshanahan No worries :) Some keyboards don't allow to press 3 arrow keys together and then instead of LEFT+RIGHT+UP you can press and hold: Z+LEFT+RIGHT

this is mentioned on itch game site Good Luck and hope you will see the ending scene of our game:)

joeshanahan 2021-10-18 18:09

Alright, I gave it another go! It's 10x less frustrating when the controls work, and I'm not unexpectedly dying by jumping off a platform! I got to the end, but... I'm not sure if the ending worked correctly or not

Either the ending is supposed to include an explody-murder-disco and then the camera shoots off to nowhere, or I ran into a bug

Overall, I still wish there were a bit more to the gameplay than walking back and forth a lot, but I did enjoy it a lot more this time.

https://youtu.be/VeIXHkMTs8s

rufson 2021-10-18 20:34

@joeshanahan Great! Congratulations! The end is noisy&glitchy on purpose. I saw that you don't hear the music in the game (Music was done by my friend Bartosz for this game), what browser did you play? also sfx audio is delayed like half a second :( Are you using Linux?

Thank you in advance for informations & video

joeshanahan 2021-10-18 22:15

Ah I was using the itch.io launcher, so whatever browser it has there. That's a shame I missed the music, now I'm gonna have to play again

rufson 2021-10-18 22:37

@joeshanahan Thank you. I didn't know that such a thing existed like itch.io launcher, good to know.

Hope you will play it again in chrome or fox  or seriously wait for the post-jam version with more stuff & bugfix

justmars 2021-10-18 22:56

Amazing graphical presentation! Moving on the planets felt smooth & the parallax effect on them looked great. Controls, graphics & mood were all solid. Taking off the planet and flying felt great. However, guiding the citizens to the ship was quite tedious. There were either too much of them or the amount one could guide at once was too low. Audio side was fine, and the game did get more unstable the further I progressed so it does fit the theme. Overall, good job!

joeshanahan 2021-10-18 23:35

I was using the itch launcher because my internet was being unreliable, so having all the games downloaded in advance was really helpful.

I totally will come back for the post-jam version! This game ended up sticking with me a lot more than I expected, so I'd love to give it another chance with a few refinements and actually listen to the music!

kalevrk 2021-10-19 14:50

I loved the visual styling and the layering of the different graphics. I especially liked the effect that you created with the star field in the background and how you were able to make it look so dynamic.

grumpy-gecko 2021-10-20 04:29

Loved the visuals, music, and mood of this game, it all fit very well together. The mechanics of flying the ship felt great as well. The ladders to the platforms were somewhat buggy for me and I found them difficult to climb up (or sometimes my character would be reset upon hitting the edge of a platform when trying to climb). But overall an amazing entry!

osh-studio 2021-10-20 12:26

This game was so cool! Loved the intro and the sound effects, everything felt nostalgic and retro. Pixel art was simple but effective, big fan. GG.

heiach 2021-10-21 18:41

A really cool concept! Reminds me of old DOS games of yore!
