LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Far Gone by TomBuston 2021-04-27T16:25:59Z

Intriguing setup and nice payoff for the story! Cursor was really sensitive (web gl build, mac osx, playing with the trackpad) but it didn't affect the experience that much. Environment and props were cool and the visual effect really tied everything together into a stylish cohesive game!

Strange Platinum by Poorwill 2021-04-28T18:04:46Z

Interesting use of tiles to create a path for the cute looking miners. Took me one playthrough to really get what's going on but after that playing was quite simple. If you use the end (or cul-de-sac) tiles carelessly it's easy to run out of options and you need to reload the page. Perhaps this is intended and if so a reload button would make the experience more enjoyable. Definitely the graphics are not supporting the good gameplay, the enemy and ore icons are hidden in the tiles because they are so small. Again, after I knew what was going on I understood the meaning of these small icons, but they didn't make starting the game easier. The game ends up being pretty challenging and I couldn't get to all of the marked places. Altho quite literal interpretation of the theme, having the digging happen on a flat surface instead on just vertically down is refreshing. Nevertheless enjoyed the game and found the tile placement mechanic interesting!

Life path of geometric shape by upisfree-2 2021-04-28T16:54:47Z

Despite its simplicity this ended up being a nice (very) short experience! The growing amount of polygons could definitely be expanded into a bigger game. Enjoyed the stylish and minimalist graphics and the feedback of the player getting slower when growing in size.

Cleaning Diver by JaviCoder 2021-04-28T18:27:42Z

I think this is as relaxing as cleaning the ocean from toxic waste can get! At first the quite barebones piano music didn't seem to work but it really grew on me as I was swimming deeper and deeper. Playing with a laptop I found using the flashlight a bit tiresome but it might be just fine with a real mouse. I would have liked the ocean to look a bit more clear, now the background and the rocks were somewhat muddled together. The surface, boat and diver look super great so I was kinda missing that quality in the ocean as well. Then again, I perhaps should've used the light more. Managed to find all the barrels so the ocean is clean once again!

Nestence by guimm12 2021-04-26T21:58:15Z

Suuuper cool game that mixes dimensions in a very innovative way. First time in the TV I felt a bit stuck until I got what was going on, satisfying! Great interpretation of the theme.

LD49 — Unstable

little rats' big top by cakeknuckles 2021-10-09T13:18:10Z

Super cute game with adorable art style and characters! Controls are very intuitive and there's just enough to do so the player feels busy all the time. I would have liked more visual feedback on when the plates are spinning - but it's pretty clear when the rat starts sweating and they need to be clicked. Makes me want to see these characters in more adventures!

-Y- by Iluvatar 2021-10-09T19:10:59Z

Great mood and I can sense a bigger world existing outside the scenario of this game. Just using symbols is a cool idea and making a game like that is a challenge. Balancing that hardness works quite well altho I found some symbols obvious and some too cryptic. Don't really see the theme applying to this. The weird huge knight dude is cool!

Shaky Structures by TomBuston 2021-10-09T23:34:55Z

Fantastic game and a great interpretation of the theme! Fun physics always work. The blueprint aesthetic is just superb, all down to the font of the text - I just love it. My tower engineering skills took me as far as Hike (before I started abusing the snake-to-platform exploit). Will remember this one!

The Salatroitsk Incident by DrunkardWolf 2021-10-09T22:10:24Z

The PSX graphics and Soviet aesthetics create an atmospheric world in which the idea of sending a single dude to collect rocks and fight against a monster doesn't seem that implausible! Loved the look of the game and the sparse audio worked well. The game isn't that scary - so just perfect for me! The monster seemed enough like a threat and I imagine you can still get yourself killed if you forget to reload. I didn't tho and successfully escaped with my new collection of radioactive debris. Great job!

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-09T18:28:23Z

Really cute car and the graphics overall are very nice. Altho cute, the car is also quite slow and thus the earthquake spawning in front of me felt a bit unfair at times. Didn't manage to escape but then again I was maybe a bit too focused on collecting the coins and enjoying avoiding the earthquake!

Babel by Gaming Night 2021-10-09T21:22:19Z

Cool way of handling the theme! Physics are always fun and this was no exception. I first started by just furiously clicking but soon noticed that a more meticulous playstyle worked better. All the different items look nice and bring a certain quirkiness into the game. Having to learn and estimate the weight of the different items keep the gameplay interesting. I got to 22 points.

Solar Colonies by Fenderbate 2021-10-09T23:59:08Z

Really cool and super polished! Just enough challenge for 10 mins, I had 12 seconds to spare when I got every planet terraformed. Loved the graphics and art style in general, zooming between different perspectives felt great. Could've easily played more with different planets and more stuff to terraform with!

Kojan by Fat cat 2021-10-10T10:23:45Z

Nice minimal storytelling - the premise is quickly and clearly dealt with! That and the moody environments really help to establish a sad and creepy atmosphere. Surviving was quite intense and hard so I did get myself killed by a large spider monster. The pressure from the collapsing treehouse would've been enough for me lol. Some tools to combat the monsters with could've also helped!

PolitiGod by Nakami 2021-10-10T00:10:43Z

Nice little game with some humor in the texts! The pop-up choices (helping with school, making it rain and so on) were a nice addition but not knowing the results at all was confusing. Perhaps the flood chance and education level affected those! I liked how you need to switch between the views to see how your changes effected popularity etc. Didn't really understand what the effects were tho - I tried lowering the taxes just in time for election which seemed to work well until the people stormed my office and kicked me out. Good fun!

Trauma by AdamCYounis 2021-10-09T18:00:18Z

Great graphics and nice mood! Liked the idea of collecting cards and the simple puzzles created with them. At first I was disappointed when I lost my card from level one, but then noticed how the levels nicely build around finding them again. Wasn't really onboard with the story. Narrative based on psychological trauma is challenging and I felt there was no time getting to know the character and caring about them. Having the levels be therapy sessions is neat in a gamified sense, but comes across a bit cheap. A bigger narrative and more of Amy's story could perhaps work in kind of a Braid type of execution!

Everything's Fine by Patsui 2021-10-09T18:44:45Z

Humorous game with cool graphics! Micromanaging wasn't so hard in the end but I got the reactor melted once. Njet problem, normal katastrof! Reactor door lever and vodka fridge button remained a mystery to me. Loved the characters overall and especially the cutesy animation of the guy swimming inside the reactor.

AFTER SUN by rufson 2021-10-09T17:37:30Z

Fantastic graphics and crunchy sounds! I managed to kill myself a few times by jumping of a platform - resulting in an explosion of the ship and death of the people inside it. Oh well! Controls felt just hard enough, not super challenging to play but just enough so there's some pressure in landing the ship. I'd prefer having the trail of people behind you automatically get on to the ship when you are on the platform, but this might be just a design decision and not a problem! Loved how the explosions and fx were cranked to the max in the very end!

Unstable Vampire: A Text based Infinite Runner by Dobryn 2021-10-09T18:23:00Z

At first I really sucked at typing (and the vampires got to suck my blood lol) but taking it easy and actually thinking about what to type helped. Dodging was fun but I just hope the character would have chosen a less walled path to escape on. Wasn't able to kill the vampires, kept missing the arrow by panic typing "run" all the time. Don't really see how this fits the theme, but it's real good nevertheless. Run!

Unstable Mind by PashaLoban 2021-10-09T18:51:49Z

Hard to play at first but if you give it a few goes it becomes easier! Liked the really short time limit and the creepy nightmare hands. The graphics are really bare and it kinda works! The light bulb ends up being well hidden by just being on a table. Could see this developing into interesting directions.

Hopin by Vishwah 2021-10-09T13:32:59Z

Nice player on-boarding in the beginning to show all the mechanics! Also the increase in difficulty seems fitting. The 3D platforming and changes in camera position between levels works well - altho I wish the camera would show more when going backwards on the tiles. Dunno how the theme is represented here (apart from the few unstable tiles) but does it really matter. Unfortunately I'm not very good at the game, so didn't get to finish it!

Danub: Potion Packer by Vaulkhar Alexis 2021-10-10T11:19:44Z

Amazing graphics and real attention to detail in all the potions. What a joy to play! Making the potions is hard because there's so many and each one is so different, but luckily taking your time doesn't seem to have an effect. Sometimes the controls bugged out and I couldn't interact with anything anymore and had to refresh the page. I never could put the mandrakeish root thing into the bottle. Overall enjoyed this and loved the satire re: Amazon, good stuff, très bon!

Laura Magan by TheBlindEye 2021-10-09T21:46:17Z

Atmospheric scenes, I would've liked to spent more time in the forest! The story is well told simply thru the items and enough is left for the player to deduce. Being in the room was confusing, I went to closet and didn't know if that was the right thing to do. Maybe adding a simple quit game button in the end would make the experience smoother, so the player doesn't need to alt-f4 out. I played the jam build.

Psycho-unstable Journey by KenForest 2021-10-09T22:34:11Z

Great atmosphere - I especially liked the rain effect and the super cool lamp with the flickering flame. Was positively surprised that you can drive the car. The narrative didn't work for me, but I liked the ending. Plus points for the funny goose!

Panelka's Fall! by Kyrylo Kalienich 2021-10-10T12:04:16Z

Great graphics and soundtrack, made the challenging build process more enjoyable! Took me a few tries to understand how to play, in the end I got to 25 blocks and 220 people. Some controls for the crane and swinging the blocks would be welcome, as now the game boils down to just timing your mouse click right. Overall very chill and challenging enough for a short session!

Angry Ape by orangutanrider 2021-10-09T22:44:47Z

The funny graphics made me test this - wasn't disappointed! Loved the humor and the weird characters. I'm not particularly good at the game but it didn't stop me from giving the rats a *well deserved* punch in the face. Amazing that there's already speedruns of the game!

Bear Ferry Simulator by guntrip 2021-10-10T10:49:31Z

Loved the cute bears and the relaxing music! I played until I got 55 bears across, with two casualties. Sometimes the bears bugged out and a few were left hanging in the air and a few were just unclickable on the shore. Otherwise everything went well. By the end the waves had grown into tidal heights and the boat was shaking a lot, but all the bears managed to stay onboard. I would have liked a more clearer indication on if there's room on the boat or not, now I just had to try and sometimes the bears jumped out and got bugged in the air. Here the bears are going to hibernation right now, so this is a very topical and fun interpretation of the theme!

Where's My Tripod? by Pixelydian 2021-10-09T18:13:37Z

A relaxing experience, apart from the quite bodily sound effects which were nicely done! The animals are cute and in my two sessions seeing a bear just once made me think if there's more rare animals yet to be discovered. Sometimes the animals take a while to appear and the scene is completely empty. In these moments I wished for some animation in the background to make the forest itself seem alive. I hoped to find the titular tripod in the end!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Type Traveler by foolmoron 2022-10-04T14:37:54Z

Wow this was really easy to get into! I'm a slow typer so I appreciated there not being huge pressure on typing super fast. The every ten seconds decreasing amount of seconds was enough of a motivator for me to keep the typing pace fast enough.

I like that there's practically two rhythms to the game: the one provided by the timer constantly counting down ten seconds and the one provided by the player typing in their chosen pace

Highest score I got was 61,293,997,393,880 seconds.

It's all in a day by ruthiepee 2022-10-04T15:06:26Z

The game starts really fast so you have to find your bearings while the clock is already feverishly ticking down. This didn't matter tho, if something the abrupt start feeds into the tone the game is conveying. The user interface is easy to read and quickly I found myself trying to balance my life and survive.

Surviving ended up being quite hard! I'm not enough of a mathematician to understand the balancing just by observing so I ended up testing various methods of combining the available activities. I found education to be the key to "victory" - it opens up the level 2 job which nets you more money per second.

Graphic and audio wise the game is gorgeous! The mood of an autumn spend in the city is beautifully rendered and having to stress about your stats makes it even more bittersweet.

Life in the city moves fast and even if you pay your rent this month the grind never ends. Maybe the sequel will be set in the countryside with a big emphasis on pressing the "do nothing" button.

Misc. bug I found: I died of hunger and with the HTML5 build on itch the restart button didn't work.

The Lure of Treasure Whisper Island by GameDevZach 2022-10-04T13:41:16Z

I was intrigued by the mechanics from the get-go. It felt fun trying to figure out how the colder-hotter system functioned! I spent most of my playtime (which totalled at around 15 minutes) digging holes in the area the whispers told me to be "lava hot", which felt a bit frustrating. Nevertheless finding the treasure after such an arduous search felt good!

The humour and mood are great! Small things like the found chests dropping down in the menu and dirt balls rolling around after a hole is dug really added to the experience for me. Also the whisper sounds didn't get repetitive or annoying - on the contrary hearing the character speak started to give him some depth as time went on.

The colder-hotter mechanic working with a delay was a smart idea! Could be a nice fit to add tension into a survival horror game, in the form of a metal detector or perhaps a radar.

LD52 — Harvest

Crop Circle by Rulrite 2023-01-09T00:44:43Z

The one button controls make gameplay engaging! I had fun first learning the ropes and then trying to best my high score. In four tries the highest I got was 1421. The cute alien sets the visual theme well and overall the graphics are top notch. Soundtrack evokes the hurriedness of harvesting the crops. Getting different points for ripe and okay crops (with ripe granting double the points) makes the game just deep enough for repeated play - it's great! Different items introduce some strategy - "should I first get the star, then the direction turner, but ahh there's the rat in the bottle I must avoid!". Randomness of these events makes every try unique but sometimes makes other runs feel unfair (lot's of rats but little extra time and vice versa). Loved this game!

LD54 — Limited Space

Tiny Island by ghpxi 2023-10-07T19:51:44Z

Loved the buildable things as cards idea and that you had to drag them onto the island to activate them. Gives the player a little something to fiddle with. I didn't find the game that challenging but that didn't matter too much as I was having enough fun just building my little island!

Though I Walk by AdamCYounis 2023-10-07T20:05:00Z

Awesome interpretation of the theme! I had so much fun fiddling with the parallax layers and solving the puzzles. The game's world seems mysterious and with the religious under (or over?) tones the removing your soul seems like a fitting mechanic. Definitely potential for a longer puzzle game here. Grats, this ruled!

Parking Garage Rally by walaber 2023-10-07T19:33:02Z

A fun driving game with responsive controls, nice graphics, and a cool track to hone your drifting skills in! As a rally fan the old school looking rally car warmed my heart. Not only did I like the driving, I enjoyed trying to find shortcuts and exploits, which resulted in me falling out of the level and later getting 4/3 laps driven. Great that you made the other cars movable and not just solid obstacles, that changes the level a bit if you happen to bump into anything. Good times!

Packed to the Gills by npckc 2023-10-07T19:11:55Z

After figuring out the controls this was a fun game of pattern matching! I got a bit distracted by the text saying something about the arrow keys but when I started using the thought bubble it was smooth sailing. Cute fish, awesome music and sweet artsy poetry in-between the stages. +++ for making "like sardines in a can" so literal!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Highway Crossing Frog by jcbeaureg 2024-10-14T03:54:11Z

I've always disliked Frogger so getting to beat everything up felt extremely gratifying! At first I didn't know I could walk in water and get hit by cars but after a few road and river crossings I started giving the cars the punching they deserve. For whatever reason it didn't occur to me I could hit trees too. Has Minecraft taught me nothing? I played until all that repressed Frogger hate was out of my system and was left thinking that perhaps a real ending (a boss fight? story conclusion, like where was the frog going?) could've tied the game together nicely. Overall a nice game, for me the humour and punching were the strongest parts.

@josep-valls You can download the Playdate simulator here: https://play.date/dev/

IIRC you need to register as a developer but after that you can freely play any games you can get the pdx file of. Thank you for being interested in my game!

HAIRDIVERS by Surfa 2024-10-14T03:43:32Z

Humorous take on Helldivers with simple but fun wave shooter gameplay. I would've enjoyed getting more weapons earlier but then again finally getting a shotgun halfway into the infestation felt satisfying. First try ended with me almost finishing the infestation but greedily running into a care package, getting swamped by the enemies and getting stuck. On my second run I got stuck a bit earlier. Web version worked really well. Intro cinematic was epic and set the tone quite perfectly!

Tinies Reaper by KriSsS Gonko 2024-10-14T04:20:01Z

Wonderful artstyle, especially the player character is charming! The little creatures were cute and I almost felt bad for harvesting them – but after being hit by their projectiles enough times I took joy in cutting them down. That'll teach them! Jumping felt a bit inconsistent with the jump height being seemingly different almost every time. Sometimes it was also possible to double jump, which I didn't mind, but it was unclear if it's an intended mechanic. Some of the levels felt a bit short or too simple, mixed with the problems I had with jumping, the platforming was at times too challenging. I found a secret meeting of mushrooms which sparked joy and left me wondering if there are more secrets I missed!
