Really good game with nice art and gameplay. We have the same idea but did it differenctly.
@van-long thank you for your compliment. What a surprise that you have the same idea as well.
Nice Game :D
What an interesting idea, I can see this being fleshed out into a full game. One thing I'd say that is that it can sometimes be a bit hard to juggle everything at once. In general though nice job, especially with the art.
The game is really well put together, with really good visuals. The control response is pretty good, although I think this game is a bit unforgiving. I was unable to hit the boss even once :( I'm bad at "hitting on girls"
Interessting fight mechanic, and that's some nice art
This is great. I absolutely loved the gameplay, even though it took me quite a while to even beat the first boss because there's so much to watch out for here. I love the difficulty though, just makes you want to get better.
The artworks are stellar, although the pixel art and fonts look kinda weird. And the music is great too!
I'm probably gonna spend a lot of time in this game at least until I beat it...
I like the art a lot but i could not figure out how to play the game. You might consider having button callouts in-game to explain what action is suppose to do what and at what time though I know it might be annoying to implement haha.
The graphics and the sound were quite good. The art is nice. I had a hard time understanding what to do, playing with the arrows and at times pushing space and running out of it. I never got more than her half life and loose. I guess its too difficult for me. Anyway good little game.
This game is really fun! I also loved the art and music. First, I was thinking about an RPG game but then it became a rhythm game and it surprised me!
After playing like 30-45min I finnaly managed to end the game ! This is soooo hard but so rewarding :trophy: ! So many different game mechanics to think of at the same time ! And the graphics and music are amazing
God was that hard ! It ended up being so frustrating that me and my friend got on the same keyboard to finally the 2nd boss ! But damn was it satisfying when we did so !
Appart from that everything is more or less top notch, from the graphics to the audio, gratz !
Either I suck, or this game is extremely hard! Once the red arrows start kicking in, I just get all kinds of stressed out and confused.
Amazing entry, one of the very best I've seen so far! Congrats!
@synth @happy44300 thank you for your compliment.
@retrospecter Thank you for your compliment. We indeed did think that this could be develop into a full feature game in the future. @scott-steffes @corbak yeah we didnt have enough time to implement that instructions part. Everyone is exhausted with drawing and testing and coding stuff. Fixing bug is a real pain in the butt too. We will add the instructions in the description on this page later.
@mateusboga @olivier-millochau I hope that the game didnt frustrated you guys too much. Just enough for you guys to enjoy the grinding for the special reward ^^
@sat9 @xyph thank you for your compliment. Im glad that you guys like it.
@naru-kennedy haha I guess the screenshot and the conversation got cha. Glad that you like it. @jsmcag thank you for your compliment. I think it will get easier when you spend a little more time into it.
Wow! You don't see polished artwork like that very often in a game jam. I'm really impressed. The gameplay is also fun but too hard for me when it comes to the letters.
@foomar Thank you for playing our game. It's impressive that you defeated the first boss, try out a few more time and it will get a lot easier. Trust me, the special prize is really worth it.
The art of this game is awesome!!! I love the way the music make you nervous and make it even more difficult to win this battle. Nice work =)
Managed to get through both bosses in the end. Pretty tough, especially for someone as inexperienced in these sorts of games as myself, but it always felt that it was me messing up instead of the game throwing something too hard at you, which is a plus. Getting the same card after each battle was a pain, but whatever. Was still good to play through.
Art was really good, and the gameplay is fun. Music is good. Took me a while to figure out what the red ones were
Haha, the album with those cards is the most creative way of engaging your players to stay in the game longer I've seen in any LD. :D
The art and music are superb, plus I had the same idea about "space" meaning the button, so I like the take on theme a lot (didn't take that concept in the end though). :P I like rhythm games overall and enjoyed playing yours as well. Narrative was... intriguing as well.
Really well done!
Way to rip off Chrono Trigger's battle music. You know that's against the rules, right?
@coda-highland We check again as your report. Our audio guy learns from the beat of Chronos trigger, that true. But from the start, we thought that not again the rules if we use it with our melody. After rechecking Ld's rule we realize that acceptable music only used samples and not like this. So we decide to opt out of audio. Although all others audio are fine. but Rule is ruled so we need to follow.
At least we have learned from this mistake.
Really thanks for your report. Hope that this doesn't make you annoy with our entry.
What a hard game ! I'm usually not that bad at these game but you got me on that one :P The idea is interesting but quite frustrating when you stack a big combo and then lose it because you fail the space attack. The sound is really good and it's the same for the graphics. Nice entry guys that's awesome and feel polished !
I like fightings. But rhythm-fighting is something unique. It plays really cool. But sometimes it is hard for me)). Good work!
Very well done and I love the art style. Great Job!
Very cute game =)
this is so very hard, i made it personal and full tried hard this, finally finish, great game
I LOVE the idea of a rhythm fighting game, and that's why I'm gonna be a bit harsh here.
I think the execution is lacking : the inputs don't match the beat, the reverse arrow keys is a TERRIBLE idea, and the QWER keys is not as bad but it's bad anyway.
You should focus on a solid 4 arrow keys control scheme, with some solid tracks (like @coda-highland, it is NOT okay to rip Chrono Trigger music, especially for a rythm game). The combo mechanic is fun and it's satisfying to land a devastating blow, but it gives the game a "all or nothing" feel that's not really enjoyable for a music game. Usually music games let you enjoy the track even if you mess up a bit. Here you HAVE to master the combo mechanic to win, there is no learning curve, the difficulty is extremely high as soon as you start (and I know it's a jam game and these things need time to adjust). Maybe add a super meter that charges with the successful inputs and keep the combo meter as a way to multiply damages ? I don't know but going back to 0 potential damage each time you miss ONE note is way too punishing.
Otherwise, the art looks fine (the logo is extremely good, even it it lacks an indication that it is a rythm game, not just a versus game). The charadesigns are generic, I guess it's ok for an ecchi game but I'd love to see some diversity in those games.
I don't think the game fits in the theme very well. I like the idea of "running out of one action done with the space bar" but there are so many mechanics around it that it hardly qualifies as a central theme.
I'd love to see a postjam version of the game if by chance you consider working on one! :)
I like the music, the art and I love the intro. The look of the buttons doesnt really fit the art of the game, also the space bar, they feel out of place. I like the red arrows, they add more challenge to the game. The theme presence is a bit of an after thought and literal here, like you run out of space then you automatically die - Im not really a fan of that, it makes the game very very unforgiving to error. I kept replaying to master the fight but I thought it was too difficult, I always end up having a bit of HP left for the boss. It does not feel right that I have full HP and the boss has 4% HP and I lost the battle. That said, I enjoyed the game as much I as played it, and like the comment before me, having the button in sync with the music would be awesome, but I understand its not an easy thing to do within the scope of a game jam. Great job!!
@kokonaught Really thanks for your feedback. Right to important points. The idea about the combo meter is huge. Damage output is already multiplied with space combo (great or perfect). And the problem with going back to 0 potential when you miss 1 note is really over punishing. I think it should be 25% to 50% power points is fine. And we sill consider about post-jam version
@nam-nguyen Happy to know you like our entry. The idea about spacebar come first but we made it too complicated. And share with you a fact that most of members can't even finish 2 bosses with final version.
Thanks for submitting this cool game to our stream playlist! See xou soon and keep up the good work!
Played it and it's awesome :D i love the graphics
Cool concept, and the graphics and music are solid. The gameplay is pretty confusing though. I didn't realize you had to hit spacebar to attack at first - hitting the buttons that come up is pretty engaging on its own, and the combo is going up so that must be good right? Having both a time limit and attack limit made it pretty unforgiving too, it took me about 5 tries to figure out the right strategy to beat the first boss in time. The second boss honestly seems completely impossible. The red reversed buttons were a huge mindfuck as well - pretty rough to have those come out so soon. Really could've used a tutorial, or more gradual introduction of mechanics (or maybe fewer mechanics in general!) and a more gradual difficulty curve. I wish the button prompts were more synced to the music like a proper rhythm game as well. Still this is a pretty cool experience, definitely would be pretty solid with some gameplay tweaks. Nice work!
@adhesion Im glad that you like the game. I guess that our team members have tested too many times so that we didnt find the game as hard as what a new player feel. And the lacking of instructions is due to the time limit as well. And we all have played some rythm games that have the red arrow mechanics before so we by mistake thought that everyone would get that idea. Anyway thank you for your contribution.
Sometimes when the enemy attacks you, you don't lose your combo. Other times, you lose your combo. Seems very random. Nice art and gameplay otherwise, but that randomness kills it for me. Is there something telegraphed that I'm missing?
EDIT: Never mind, the combo meter just disappears when you get attacked, but it's still counting. That tripped me up.
Also, woulda been nice if the timing was on-beat. But hey, it was still pretty fun overall! Characters were cute :)
Amazing art, but the controller is really hardcore for me so I didn't do too well. Overall very nice coherent style amazing musics and amazing attention to details. If you showed me gameplay video, I would have never guessed it's a gamejam game :) Well done to whole team.
The visuals are really nice, but holy smokes, the difficulty! The gameplay quickly goes from engaging to outright frustrating. Apart from that, a really good job.
kinda hard but love the graphics and art style
Wow. This has some potential. Is it the Next Hollow Knight? Maybe not but i'd def. buy a polished refined version. Slap on a story, take the combat mechanic, mix some good songs and your are good to go. Maybe as mobile game? I don't know.
Anyways good job. Overall 4.5/5 The gameplay could take a little more tweaking (way to difficult right now ^^)
I played for a while but the difficulty kept me back. Really slick sound and graphics.
Took an hour to get all of the cards - buff drop rate pls and let me dust the duplicates. We can appreciate someone else adding a little bit of ecchi to LD as our games are more on the hentai side :>
I thought this was a cute game... im not so sure it was a cute game. That aside,(still looked slick though) It was a very good and novel idea. The balance was off though, way too hard, as weird as it might seem, playing the same notes on retry could have helped a lot. difficulty 1 is that the note pattern and rhythm don't feel right. sometimes it seems random, other it seems to follow the beat(That could still happen randomly, but I assume it wasnt). difficulty 2 is the space. took me a while to realize I had to time it too.(comic shows it, but it wasnt clear on my first go) The space requires to unfocus from the main bar, really should have merged them somehow, say a "rythm line/flash" with the space tempo. >incidentally writing the above made me realize that *you CAN* miss notes (which tends to happen when you want to hit the space),doing it willingly helped me perform better, but its super counter-intuitive. rhythm game & missing notes is :/
Opposite notes are also super mean.
Might have seemed harsh but this really is a great game & idea, full of potential, just unfortunate it is so hard. Looked great and lets be real, you used The most unique interpretation of the theme (Bit, forced when you spell it out, but I had thought about it myself, just no super cool implementation as you did)
Great job!
Fantastic entry, ya'll did great work. Graphics and audio were both fantastic, the art especially so =). Only issue for me was that the game was super difficult!
I thought this was innovative and really well drawn! nice work! Here is a link to your spot on the stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299088812?t=01h20m20s
Excellent gameplay. It was a bit hard at first, but then I figured out the key, you can not possibly win without taking damage. I was struggling with the first opponent for too long before realizing that the combo doesn't reset after taking damage. I just hit her with a 50x combo and that was the end of that. Required a lot of focus to play, I was completely zoned in. Also, loved the art style! Would have been awesome if the notes were synced to the beat, but I had plenty of fun regardless! Solid entry.
Really impressive jam entry! I wish I was better at it, but those reverse arrows destroyed me. Thanks for sharing your game with my stream awhile back. Your game was played around 4:46 into this vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298692367
