Interesting idea! I think this is a pretty unique take on the theme, being able to delay different elements of the game by different amount is really smart and provides a good amount of strategy, I also like the simple music. Good entry!

haydads 2022-04-04 08:05

Interesting take on delaying the inevitable. Turning delay into a mechanic makes a cool puzzler game. Well Done!

rex64 2022-04-04 08:06

Brilliant! A game that incorporates the theme of this LD perfectly into its design!

wavertron 2022-04-04 08:10

Took me a little while to understand the delay mechanic, but quite a good one for a puzzle game. I dont know that the mechanic truly works for things like delaying a banana peel slide, perhaps it could be reskinned into something more suited. Neat game

kosmosael 2022-04-04 08:13

Awesome idea! Really love the mechanics, feels very unique.

I really like the music, however, I feel like the volume way down compared to the sound effects, I had to up my volume quite a bit to hear the music.

khaotom 2022-04-04 08:20

I agree with above. Controlling the timing of the different effects is satisfying. The inclusion of a slippery banana is funny too.

byazzle 2022-04-04 08:27

Loved the mechanic and how well it meshed with the theme - a perfect fit, with a great take on the block-pushing puzzle genre. Graphics and sound design were really cute, and really helped make this a great entry. Good stuff!

dennis-magnusson 2022-04-04 08:46

I like the idea, it's a really fun twist on the theme. I really appreciate that you went for an "explain by doing" angle to level design, however I felt like I didn't really understand the block pushing mechanics in the later parts of the game. Also the direction of the banana slip took me a while to understand. The music is actually nice and calming and fitting, so don't be afraid to turn up the volume a bit.

Also FYI, I got an error at one of the later levels that said "this.level.grid[i] is undefined". I think it was the third to last

mixon00 2022-04-04 11:40

Cool graphics. Nice gameplay. Great job!

rolly 2022-04-04 14:08

This is brilliant, loved every second of it (which are much more than I would actually like to admit :D).

I really enjoyed the "tutorial" levels to explain the mechanics, for instance the difference between the ice and the banana peels.

The music and sound effects are nice!

Awesome take on the theme, I must admit that I'm a bit jealous that I didn't have this idea.

Great entry!

shellofagirl 2022-04-04 16:21

I enjoyed the graphics and colour choices and melting myself in lava. good job!

m11 2022-04-04 17:21

Brilliant, and loved the music (always nice to see Beepbox being used!)

kamikaziuk 2022-04-04 18:51

I loved the puzzles they were really creative!

brettschiff 2022-04-04 20:06

I love a fun puzzle game! This was good level design with easier levels to introduce new ideas and then more challenging ones to test them out! Fun, on-theme mechanic!

There is a bug where if you do a second movement before the first is complete, you will teleport to complete the first move and then start doing the second, but it doesn't affect game logic

david-york 2022-04-05 00:55

Excellent concept. Really innovative use of delaying in inevitable. Well done.

sheol 2022-04-05 02:17

Pretty unique and interesting mechanic to delay the effects of items! I like that you sort of learn as you go, although it took me quite a while to solve some of the puzzles. I still had fun though! Really great submission!

loic-blumgi 2022-04-05 08:04

Wooow amazing :) What a cool idea ! It took me a time to understand but when I got it it was ooooookkkkk

jhax 2022-04-05 12:49

Great interpretation of the theme turned into a really cool puzzle mechanic.

Super clever game!

joscco 2022-04-05 13:13

Really great mechanic idea, opens up so many possibilities! An awesome puzzle game!

edusilva 2022-04-05 14:50

such a nice idea, the inpretation of the theme was so creative, well done!

boc-dev 2022-04-05 15:08

Very new way of doing a puzzle game, which fits theme perfectly!

nerzal 2022-04-05 16:11

Gameplay: The puzzles get pretty hard over time. I especially liked the parts you multiple characters, which were controlled at the same time. That added new layer of thinking about the puzzles.

Delaying the actions of the items by certain amount of steps is really new to me. The game crashed in on level, cause the game didn't like what i have done :D

The concept of the controls was easy to understand and master, once you understand how the delay points work, which is cool!

Still some of the puzzles were "to hard" for me too solve within a limited timeframe on stream.

Considering that this is a compo entry, the amount of levels is really impressing! It's a little bit confusing, that you have to do an additional step, while standing on the goal of the level.

I like the way how you teach the player how to play the game. Adding features one after the other per level is a really good approach and it does not feel like a forced-boring tutorial!

Also it is nice, to be able to skip a level when failing to solve it. That prevents frustration! The possibility to skip animations for a faster paced gameplay is nice, but a little confusing. Having a short explanation somewhere would be nice. Sometimes this can lead to confusion, as the player might do an additional unindented step.

In one level, the player is red (dead) standing on the goal and can still finish the level, that feels a little off.

Graphics: I'm a fan of the loading animation of the game! :D I can see that there has been some love put into the graphics, the lava animation for example caught my eyesight. Also the idle animation of the character is neat.

Audio: It's a little bit confusing, that the music does not start at the first level The music is simple, but fullfils it's purpose. Also it is not annoying, which is a great plus. The sounds especially from the banana slides are great!

Humor: Idk, i guess i skip that voting, cause i have not seen any really humorous elements

Mood: You have created a nice atmosphere in your game. Controls, Visuals, Audio are really good matching!

igorfelga 2022-04-05 16:54

Love the puzzle using delay as a mechanic. The vibe of music is interesting

gabriel-dias-oliveira-de-almeida 2022-04-05 18:25

Puzzles really hard but that's a good thing <3

ludumdaredevil 2022-04-05 22:35

I liked the minimalist pixel art graphics. I had a similar style in my game.

reronin 2022-04-06 16:45

Those were some really hard puzzles! Exquisite level design!

crishnate 2022-04-07 10:02

This is one of the cleverest theme representation I've seen in this LD, I might completly miss this one for the cover image, but man, this is just so brillint I have no words.

Music is good, chill and relaxing

Puzzles are smart and have several solutions. Also the puzzles get harder pretty fast (might be even too fast)

As a fan of puzzle games, really enjoyed it!

auxiliarymoose 2022-04-07 10:09

SUPER cool take on the theme! A very neat puzzle game with lots to love. I must admit I got stuck on a later level, but I will come back after thinking about it more. An instant classic--I can totally imagine something like it running on the Game Boy or some other retro console. Really great work overall on a super cohesive retro style game. It has a ton of personality for a puzzle game. Some things to potentially improve:

* A more gradual ramp up in difficulty (or maybe I am just a bit slow lol) * Music: it seems to be a bit mismatched from the 8-bit style of everything else * Detecting that the level is done seems to take an extra input after you arrive on the X * For more depth, there could be some sort of level selector with "par"/"perfect" scores for how many steps to take * Keyboard controls for adding/subtracting points would be a nice touch

But these are all small nitpicks. Congrats on the fantastic game!!

oadt 2022-04-07 10:36

@crishnate from puzzle fan to puzzle fan: There is only one other [puzzle game I've found so far](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/twicoban) Maybe you also want to check this out, has some great levels.

@auxiliarymoose Thank you very much for your feedback!

okamit 2022-04-07 13:41

Very fun and well thought-out idea! I like how you build on the delay-concept in different ideas and combine it with different gameplay aspects. Hope you continue working on this!

Really well done!

rickylee 2022-04-07 16:22

Never seen a puzzle like it! top marks for innovation for sure :D love the graphics and audio too, thank you for putting a next level button I needed it once or twice :') great submission!

clement-sparrow 2022-04-07 19:09

Hey, that's fun, we both made puzzle games relying on a very similar concept, and yet the two games are very different. Makes me think the concept is worth more attention :-)

I really liked your puzzles, how did you manage to make so many of them in so little time? ;-) I regret the lack of undo, but I understand it's tricky to implement in an engine that do not support it natively. Some levels had a nice jokes in them, and that's a very nice addition too.

unitedfailures 2022-04-08 04:09

Cool puzzle concept, and I like how progressive levels build on it. Levels never really feel repetitive. GJ!

oadt 2022-04-08 09:41

@clement-sparrow Thank you for your comment! Yeah, it was an early decision whether I should go with immutable data structors to allow undo later on or not. Because I wasn't sure how the animations will work and to maybe safe some time I decided to cut the functionality (thought my levels wouldn't be that long anyways ) But now I think I wouldn't have lost that much time implementing undo if I choose otherwise at the beginning.

I don't know if the game really have that much puzzles  But I think I got pretty lucky this LD. The mechanics were pretty much implemented after the first day and I had already collected some code ideas for levels during implementation. Most of them matured pretty fast to actual levels (though some of the had to be modified heavily)

marcmagus 2022-04-08 15:23

Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for feedback! If you’d like to revisit the play and commentary you can view the highlight at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1448957645

Unique puzzle mechanic, leads to some interesting interactions. If you could find somewhere to display any currently delayed effects along with countdown timers for how many more turns of delay they have it would go a long way to improving transparency as to what's going on and let the player focus more on figuring out the puzzles.

oadt 2022-04-08 18:02

@marcmagus Thank you for your feedback! Yes, some more indication of what is happening would really be helpful. I really appreciate that you took the time and got back to leave this comment!

claytonrumley 2022-04-09 04:25

Fun game! I got the crash that other people talked about. Took me awhile to understand how the delay mechanics worked, but it's really a clever twist in game design.

schwede 2022-04-09 15:58

A deadly addictive game! How did you come up with this idea and all those crazy levels? Impressive!

I don’t have much for improvements since its a solid game:

* Make the game with a higher pixel resolution so you get shadows * Increase and decrease the delay also with the keyboard

ksimaster 2022-04-11 12:29

Cute little game with nice music :) Reminds me of old games! Good job! :)

nyxkn 2022-04-12 08:49

I couldn't figure out how to get past the first timed blocks. Actually I think I figured it out just now as I was typing this comment. HAH. Anyway, mechanic was a little confusing at first, but once figured out I though it was actually a brilliant and very unique way of interpreting the theme. Great game idea!

kuggenhoffen 2022-04-12 20:57

Nice! Very satisfying to figure out how the puzzles are solved. Graphics, sound effects and music fit nicely together to fulfill the style of the game. Good job!

alight 2022-04-15 23:48

Nice concept. Absolutely loved it. Sound was lit :fire:

doot 2022-04-16 21:44

Very very strong compo entry, great job! I loved the gameplay. I'm not a big puzzle player, so I had to stop after the first Push levels, but I enjoyed the game a lot until then!

Thanks for the game and great job 🍌

geryon-games 2022-04-17 15:37

Really amazing idea for the theme. I had a great time playing it! Impressive number of levels too! I did get the crash, but all in all, great submission!

jonah-srg 2022-04-17 20:10

This is a really inventive take on the theme. I like sokoban-style games, and the mechanics here work well. Abstract, but it all makes sense and pretty quickly becomes challenging. I like the visuals, its readable and the sprites are nicely animated. Really well done.

binaryprinciple 2022-04-19 03:53

You need to expand this game and explore the mechanics a bit more, because is quite a fun puzzle. I really enjoyed the artstyle and how each level bring new items and ways to play it. Find inspiration in games like downwell, maybe some type of metroidvania, so that you can unlock skills to use in previous levels.

ismael-rodriguez 2022-04-21 02:55

Very interesting delay mechanic. Gets a hard to understand but has a lot of potential.
