Wow, what a cool idea. I love the character's little hat! Haha!

This is lovely <3
Reminds me of Over the Garden Wall! I do kind of wish the lantern lit up the environment a bit more, but great concept, and wonderful art.
Hey! My jam game has the same name, and some similar concepts like an oil bar and water being the enemy, though I'll admit that yours is better than mine in *most* ways.
Really cool game, and great art! I really like the mood it set. I would suggest making the lantern illuminate the area a bit more, as it was hard to tell what was trees and what was walls even with the lantern close by. Cool mechanics, good job!
The lamp should light a little bit more so the platforming can be done easily. Okay game overall
Very fun game. Though the witch was really creepy.
Really cool mechanic with the torch!
The game is nice, I like the art. Love the idea to have to light your own path. Some jump are a bit hard to make but overall it's a nice platformer. The light could be a bit less bright
the game looks really nice! but the lantern blocks my vision instead of helping, and the character sorta slides instead of stopping, makes it really hard to stop on tiny platforms
I see we have had almost the exact same idea :) The visuals are really well done, controls could use some work though. Feels very slippery and hard to control precisely.
The idea with game mechanics was great, but probably due to time limit, lacks execution. Movement was a bit frustrating, especially sliding after landing on the platform. I loved the firebug effect, but maybe lacked the real light effect. The art direction was really fun and quirky. Overall nice job.
I like the torch mechanic, but instead of giving me sight, it took my sight by dazing/blinding me. So i just put it in the top left corner while playing, as it was easier to see without having the light anywhere near the middle of the screen.
The tiny (1 tile wide) platforms felt unfair, as i kept falling down instead of landing on them.
I liked the graphics, although i missed a background a bit. The music was fine.
Wow, what a cool idea, and great art! ;)
Nice overall submission - loved the graphics and animation. The controls are bit finicky, especially when trying to get on top of a small platform. The oil gauge should maybe not blend into the background as much - I kept having to use the lantern itself to see how much oil was left.
I enjoy simple platformers a lot and this was scratched that pretty well. But the one thing that I felt really detracted was how bright that light was. Playing in a full light room I was still struggling to see as I played. Apart from that the tutorial was good and the game play worked well. Good job
I think the platform placement is a liiiiiiiitttle too precise for a game like this. I spent a lot of time trying to position myself and get my jumps absolutely perfect that I started to get distracted from your guys' A+ aesthetic.
If y'all spend some time incentivizing your players to explore rather than challenge them with difficult platforming segments, I think it would make things a lot more enjoyable. :)
I also wish there was more of a point to moving the torch around. If you could interact with the area or something with it (instead of just lighting things) there would be a much stronger connection between the player character and the torch.
Overall though, I really like the tone and aesthetic of this one. :) Very nice job!
A platformer where you you use a lamp to figure out your next leap is a great idea. The character design and animations are great. I wish the controls were rebindable or it worked fully on my gamepad (everything but the lantern movement seemed to work). Left wasd, ctrl and shift and space are not comfortable keys for a platformer.
I like the concept! However the lamp was too bright and prevented seeing where I was going. It's a cool idea to control the mouse and keyboard at the same time for a platformer, but I don't have an english keyboard so the placement of the A and D keys was a bit awkward, especially when I had to press the other keys on top.
I enjoyed the art and the gameplay ideas (and the fact that you also made an oil-lamp based game with a mechanic of losing fuel, not entierly dissimilar to our entry). The part that started to become a bit frustrating were the platforming physics. There was a bit of "ice skating" going on and the level is designed in such a way that one can easily hit their head and tuble into pits of water. I would definitly look forward to play more of a game with this type of mood and graphics with an overhault platforming mechanic =)
This is really cool. Awesome worj on the character and the fx it's super clean. The controls works well and are smooth. Great jobs !
Seemed like a very neat concept, though when I hit the crouch part the button combo closed my window.. Hah.
Music is great! Accidentally left the tab running on the menu for about 20 minutes before actually playing it when I realized that nice music I had been hearing was from your game!
Key combinations while playing in the browser like ctrl + can be dangerous it seems. Other than that nice entry!
I liked the concept the art and the overall mood. Sadly I was not able execute the super jump with the crouch + jump, I tried different timings but it did not work out. So I missed the witch :(. The interia when landing is also sometimes frustrating. Nice game !
@oddarock hold down crouch then jump
Things I liked: Consistent art theme, the music was on point and sounded really good. I think the game felt more complete than a lot I have played in a game jam. The levels were challenging. Things I disliked: I thought the lantern felt a bit off. Perhaps more visibility with the lantern would have been better? Instead, it just seemed a bit off.
My opinion comes from being a composer and sound designer, so that's what I can talk about... The title theme is well composed for the game, fits the mood nicely. The mockup is a bit weak, the fake strings kind of hurt to hear after a while. But the theme itself is really nice. There could be a little bit more in the sound design department. The atmospheric fire flickering sound is awesome, I love how that's basically the ambience of the game. But the jump sound followed by silence (no impact sound) feels bit strange. Overall a cool platformer, nice art style as well.
The opening music is quite impressive! The game play was rough for me. I had great difficulty moving around on narrow platforms. There seemed to be some graphical issues too, for example; the lighting was not very effective, and despite having a torch, I always felt like there wasn't enough light to see where I was going. The character seemed to have too much light on him, so he appeared overexposed. But I think my biggest issue was with the apparent spine based character animation. In fact, it didn't really behave like a traditional character animation at all, sometimes the legs would rotate around in a 360 degree circle. The character's motion didn't bob up and down at all. It was very robotic looking and oterhwise just unnatural. There wasn't a lot to do other than explore. I didn't really fight anything, pickup anything, or do anything other than just walk, jump and try to avoid landing in the water. I'll admit, I didn't advance very far. I quit just as I entered the 2nd level. I think there must have been a lot of work done on the game, but it might have been a bit more work than was anticipated. It was a good solid effort, and I wouldn't mind seeing the game again if you decided to polish the game, especially if you ever intend to publish. Great job, congrats on finishing. Best to you
Some fun ideas here! I think the main mechanic is a great idea and could be explored in some interesting ways. I enjoyed bouncing around and trying to explore the space. The water was pretty punishing! Some thoughts: maybe push the light so it fades to complete black to increase your reliance on it. Make the platforming a bit easier, and have the torch burn down over time to encourage exploration. Some fun potential here though, well done!
Sorry if this comment sounds very aggressive, I'm not as good with English and I'm trying to do a constructive criticism. The idea is good and there are a full variety of mechanics for movement and enemies. The graphics are good and sound effects isn't bad. There's a big problem with the lantern, it's so bright and you can see anything because you get blink by the amount of light. Another problem is the implementation of the mechanics. In general it's quite bad. The physics and the normal movement of the player are weird and feel like if you were slipping. The dash, high jump and fly mechanics are not as bad implemented as most of the other ones. I feel the game empty without music during the game-play. It will be great to have music during the game, not only in the main menu.
