LOL I love the soundtrack and the pixel art in this
Your game's dialogue is really creative and cool. I had a lot of laugh from the dialogue. The music is extremely good and the pixel graphic remind really remind of those old school game. Overall the art is god and dialogue is really funny and creative, especially when you click on the dialogue you don't like.
This was a great little game. I am a fan of Lumpy's pixel art and this pixel painterly style was phenomenal. Loved it!!!
HAHA I was cracking up while playing this! Great art and great music! I did lose control of Smoke a couple times though, once after talking to the fish and once after eating the honey. Other than that I had a blast playing! :)
This is hilarious man! Pretty sure I explored all of the paths, and I love all of them. Good job!
This game was amazing! The art and music set such a good mood. The dialogue mechanic is great and hilarious which adds to replay-ability ! Awesome awesome work!
My life will forever be changed now after playing this game. I think I've started to FEEL again... I'm not sure what to make of it.
Good job LumpyTouch and UpstairsBreh, the game is as good as I anticipated. Really enjoyed watching you create it.
I'm sorry but, how were you able to document a day from my life with such great detail? Hahahaha great job my dude, loved the art as usual <3
ahah this was a great ride, I had no idea what to expect, glad I tried it.
Really fun and amazing art style!
In a word, poetic. In two words, very poetic.
10/10 - Bigfoot Believer Monthly
I believed in Bigfoot, and Bigfoot believed in me.
I lost it when I walked out onto the highway and my son drove by
I also got the weird movement behavior: every time I grabbed the honey, I couldn't move :slight_frown:
H E L L - O F - A - G A M E
Simple, but exhaustive
I want to believe.
Right in the feels
I felt pretty bad for the player character. Seems like he's lost hope. I tried to make things better by picking as many positive options as I could, though I'm not sure how much of a difference it made. Interesting characters to interact with. Gorgeous art, especially the backgrounds. It was a pleasant experience basically.
Incredible graphics, especially the character protraits in the conversations. Really cool aesthetic.
This must be the best game ever!!
The face zoom !! haha
Found this on a stream. Really enjoyed it! Music and graphics are exceptional.
Oh my god. You created such a big world within a short amount of time :O. I appreciate the art and world building a lot. You have a lot of content in the game, and even had some small cut scenes in it. I really think this is a very very very solid entry in this game jam, possibly one of the best I've seen. Great work!
went straight home and got drunk. @lumpy maybe some subtitles would be nice?
Wow, that was something... Not much in the action department, but the graphics are incredibly cool. And I wasn't expecting that kind of an ending cutscene...
Hey, paulloz here. Obviously graphics are awesome, the music is really nice too. I think my life changed when I started speaking to that fish. The dialogue mechanic is neat too but maybe underexploited. Overall I had a real nice moment playing this random thing and that's what's important.
Also, that ending sequence is top notch.
fuckin excellent. I would play a full game of this. Really like the dialogue choice mechanic and the distorted speech audio, really made me feel like a sad mess.
Surprisingly enough this game has quite charming graphics for such a depressing story and theme. And I really appreciate that, because otherwise, it would have been too depressing to play this game.
True story
What a surreal experience. Loved your pixel art, really stylized and I felt like it really matched the tone of the game. Awesome work!
Awesome! It's cool how the responses bounce around, as if smoke can't control himself. Also the game is GORGEOUS! I highly recommend getting the good ending, it's worth it!
I though the dialogue selection movements didn't do anything for the game other than increasing the chance of misclicking. This may have been the design intent, meaning that the devs wanted the drunk bear to slur his words, or say something he didn't mean due to inebriation. I found it irritating. This was a little mitigated, though not in a good way, by the fact that the comments the bear had to make were all unrelatable, in my opinion.
.
Thank you for streaming my game. As a thank you I played your game on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames
I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.
You can hear my comments in the archive at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297889760
I would love to play your game, however I got "installer integrity check has failed" error message upon opening it. Is there any workaround?
Hello @outstar! Apparently this might be related to not having enough memory available when installing the game. You might have to make some space. Smoke, once installed, is around 100MB.
Thank you @hunter-towe @chris-coe @foxwater and so many others. Me and @upstairs-breh are very touched by your genuinely kind comments. While it's a silly and strange little game, at it's core the adventure is made better if the player relates to what's going on in Smoke's life, or at the very least has empathy for his decision-making. Amazing that so many of you connected on that deeper level! Bravo! You've looked inside yourself and decided that
it's ok to feel
@lumpy we tested it on 2 different PCs with more than a dozen GB left on the drive! :(
So depressing. But so well-done. Here's my playthrough: https://youtu.be/Jjy_hu5Wgto
Genuinely the most bizarre but also the most charming of all the LD42 games I've played so far. Love the tone and humour. Found the bouncing responses annoying. But a great job!
What a beautiful and wondrous adventure! I love the art/audio and how it paired with the design to form such a... memorable experience. Brilliant Job with this game. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Wow such a perfect game. Amazing storytelling, incredible art and sound. I'm wondered how you made it just in three days. One of my favorite certainly.
lol, running out of lager :D nice humor and interpretation of the theme! cool graphics and nice music and sfx, haha! good job
Very cool graphics and audio, it is incredible how much effort was put into building the world and the characters in this game. I didn't expect a Ludum Dare entry to handle such a heavy subject like this, it really struck me when I found out that Smoke has an estranged son, and everything thereafter.
It also has the most innovative dialogue mechanic I have seen for being drunk, it would be cool to see that in an actual RPG.
Really beautiful graphics, and thanks for sharing about Dan Fesslers HD painting strategy. The mood was really good with the music and sound effects. I wish there were different endings based on your choices. If the player can't impact the game in any way, it feels more like an interactive movie than a game. I really enjoyed the dialogue though, it was a downer but made me feel for Smoke. Lol at the theme intepretation. Clever.
Great environment, great use of storytelling and character building through subtle dialogue, humorous and moody, fitting and beautiful aesthetic. I really liked the way you incorporated the theme as well- it obviously wasn't disregarded but included in the narrative. I TOO WANT A SPACE LAGER
Nice game, great pixel art, loved the mechanic when talking and you have to try and hit the one you want, so relatable haha.
This contains a staggering amount of high quality pixel art which creates a unique mood and atmosphere on an overall impressive adventure game. Could definitely see this expanding into something much larger. Great work!
It's so fun! =D I like Smoke's voice and I liked to cacth the answers in the dialogues.
I'm trying to stay in the habit of giving feedback for any game I rate... I don't have a lot to say that hasn't been said here though. The pixel art is wonderful, and the story shows through well.
I actually really liked the bouncing text mechanic; it really quickly drove home the "oh, crap, I'm a drunk, aren't I?" idea. It was hard to get right but I could tell that was the point.
Thank for a good game.
This is beautiful. All aspects of this work so well together, and the bouncing text is a really clever drunkenness mechanic. It's always really impressive to me when people manage to talk about serious subjects well in a jam game like this. Amazing work!
Outstanding entry. 5/5 congrats
I loved it. Simple, but quite deep of an interactive experience. Really glad I played it, thanks for the game!
The way you used bees to direct the player in a roundabout way instead of a direct trip home using the same route was nice, considering you never forced the player to actually visit every single location. Felt like a good game design touch, a definite way to show "here, you can go to other places now, but you don't have to if you don't want to". The end screen also rewarded exploration neatly, something lots of designers forget in games with similar morals/feels-oriented aspects. At the same time, the actual answers you chose weren't affecting it (from what I saw), so you never "judged" the player for their decisions, and that's extremely important in such a game imo.
So is 9 objects/marks on the ending screen the max you can get? I assume it is, since I wanted to check and re-played the game without talking to anyone and didn't get Smoke's face on the end screen unlike my first playthrough, but I wanna be sure since I'd like seeing all the characters there are.
Really great job overall!
Glad you enjoyed the game, @gil4! Yea, you hit the nail on the head with a lot of aspects of the games, such as the bees being a way to suggest that there's more to explore.
While ideally it would have been great to have multiple 'judgements' at the end of the game, just wasn't possible with the time limit. That would for sure be something that would get expanded on in a bigger release.
That being said I think the idea that the objects/smoke face is the reward, and that the judgement comes from the player is a great interpretation that a lot of people have gone with. What is the state of Smokes life, and how as the player have you influenced it?
Thanks again for playing.
I liked the Graphics, and the Gameplay was fun, Nice Game.

Awesome game :) I love old school adventure games (and also beers) so I enjoyed this a lot. I played it twice to discover some more guys and understanding a little more the mechanic at the end of the game. I still think I may have missed something or that I could discover more things :) As you said this is a cool reward to the player and a good choice to keep with a reasonable scope. The dithered pixel art is original and looks cute and detailed. I really enjoyed raw SFX and voices and especially loved the funky musics, very groovy and suiting to the game. It's really great to hear such diversity in tracks, probably the best music/SFX effort I could try in this LD, this is once again great job, congratulations :) Cheers!
A triumph of narrative gameplay.
Well done on the campy but cozy environment design, there were moments were you want to explore further.. :ok_hand:
Nice touch on the dialogue choice cloud..
Optional Suggestions: - Option of alternative beverages for Main Character and its unique effects of the narrative.. - Option to unlock other characters and explore their slice-of-life/retrospection paths..
