This game is suprisingly fast paced, and though I was terrible at the game, it still felt fair and balanced. I like :)

caeonosphere 2018-04-23 03:57

Thanks! The game really is too hard. None of my friends who tested it could make it very far. I'm just glad to hear it worked!

olivier-millochau 2018-04-23 04:07

Wow, I'm totally loving it ! Keep trying and dying again, my best score is 10 ^^'

literally-void 2018-04-23 04:10

Great concept! The graphics are amazing.

badical 2018-04-23 04:25

Incredible job! This has been my favorite so far. So well done. So well polished. GG!

blackatlas 2018-04-23 04:55

I said this in another thread but great work! One suggestion would be to have variable starting BPMs to add difficulty levels.

caeonosphere 2018-04-23 05:14

@BlackAtlas yeah, that's a good idea. Maybe for STEREOtype Deluxe!

ghostgoatsgames 2018-04-23 05:42

Very good game, maybe a little too hard but great job.

schsam 2018-04-23 05:45

I have to say that while this game may not be super approachable, I think it's amazing. My favorite game so far. The aesthetic is so clean. I love how the whole interface is typing.

katie 2018-04-23 05:49

Really nice aesthetic, and a pretty cool idea!

dumivid 2018-04-23 07:19

Impressive. Very specific yet very fun **type** of game. Minimalistic and smooth. Nice job.

jiri-hysek 2018-04-23 07:45

Oh that's awesome! I would never say I enjoy a typing game.I like those little details like rotation of letters when you are out of rhythm or how it waits on the first word and lets me figure out what should I do without punishing me.

mazzletov 2018-04-23 07:54

I love the minimalistic theme. I'm quiet bad at the game :D

dirtymoonz 2018-04-23 10:01

Great looking game. Challenging, but fun. I also like the clever title.

krystof-klestil 2018-04-23 10:03

A real surprise giver. If I ever had a chance a typing game of ANY sort I wouldn't, now way. Nuh-uh, I made an exception here and boy am I glad.

iluvatar 2018-04-23 10:22

Challenging, so that means fun. Loved the idea and most of all love the original title.

timeload 2018-04-23 10:42

Great game, was very challenging. I'd say make the beat that you're meant to type to stand out more, I had difficulty hearing when I was meant to press a key

call-me-nutty 2018-04-23 10:44

Hi caronosphere!

This is a great minimalist game. A great twist on the typing genre.

The game had a perfect balance of difficulty, your game was made in a way that losing didn't feel unfair and thus you want to come back to play the game. The game feels very smooth and seamless, little details such as the rotating letters added a nice visual touch.

The game looked very professional, it would be hard to convince someone that this is for a 48 hour solo compo just by having them play the game. I would have liked it, however if the game felt a bit more alive, for example, UI elements that dance to the beat. The variety of beats was nice too.

All in all, this is by far the most 'complete' game I've played. Everything feels finished. A really nice refresher for a genre littered by poor games.

valden 2018-04-23 11:00

I also find this game way too hard and very stressful. Nice execution however !

spelos 2018-04-23 11:15

**wow** This game is really fun! I had a blast playing it and I can see myself returning to it when bored. Great job! The music generation did crash on me a few times, but the first bit that did work was amazing! Awesome job! =)

ironygames 2018-04-23 11:45

Oh wow. It seems like such an obvious combination. Yet, I don't think anyone's done it before! And it's a lot of fun. From the mistake feedback (unaligned letters) to the pace change, to having to type restart to restart. Absolutely polished.

For slowpokes like me, I'd appreciate a smaller font so as to better prepare myself for the next word :)

ben-hopkins 2018-04-23 18:23

This is so cool. I really love the effect of the tilted letters showing how close you are to hitting the beat. Individual words seem to have appropriate difficulty but it's very hard to recover once you've slightly lost the beat. I think one thing that could really help is having one extra beat between words (I suppose this would really mean having the previous word end on the second to last beat). Great presentation and theme-fulfillment!

mainghia95 2018-04-24 00:26

Nice work guys. I like your idea. We also make our original. Mind to check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/daxua

dustygriff 2018-04-24 00:30

Really interesting and addictive combo. Was a bit tough the get the hang of first but after a couple tries felt like it was very fair in its difficulty. Definitely made me want to come back!

chris-magnuson 2018-04-24 00:34

This is awesome, but really hard!

equa 2018-04-24 01:07

Love this game! Everything is very nicely executed, but I feel the game is too hard because of the health bar -- as the game passes more and more levels, the strike bar never goes down, so to properly go through the higher stages you need an absolutely perfect execution. Overall, though, I very much enjoyed playing it! :tada:

caeonosphere 2018-04-24 01:18

@equa: Yeah, you're right. I had planned on adding a mechanic that gives you a life back if you complete a section without messing up, but I ran out of time... and it seems a little too much to add to the compo version after the fact.

gamekrazzy 2018-04-24 05:50

I really want to enjoy this game, but I find that my keyboard has an input delay... meaning I have to adjust when I type to be at awkward times, and it's very precise... honestly I love the concept, but an easier fix to this, is to adjust the timing buffer, make it so that rather then having to type exactly in time, and have a scoring system like ddr, where the timing buffer is more lenient, but you get more points for perfect time or something... Either way, great game! (Copied from itch.io post)

caeonosphere 2018-04-24 06:08

@Gamekrazzy: I'm surprised to not be hearing this more often, since I've only got the one computer to test on and I wasn't feeling very confident about the accuracy of the audio library. Maybe one day a version will come out that you can enjoy.

darylsteak 2018-04-24 13:35

Weeeeeeeell ill admit im not very good at this game, but it sure was fun. It was well polished and the only problem I ran into was the input delay, like the guy stated above.

i very well enjoyed it, and props to the guys who made it

tinycastleguy 2018-04-25 06:44

Very addicting game that works well both in concept and execution. The only thing not present here I would have liked to see is some catchy music to type along to, but that is excusable since the game already feels polished and clearly a lot of hard work went into making the gameplay fluid. Also got quite challenging as I progressed, partially because I'm bad at typing.

caeonosphere 2018-04-25 07:48

@TinyCastleGuy: In terms of time investment, I went all-in on generated music, not fully appreciating how difficult it was going to be. In hindsight, I could have gotten a lot out of a little composition. A good lesson for next time!

issac 2018-04-27 02:16

I love rhythm games and I love this! It's fun and really polished. A couple things that I think would be nice: * adjustable input delay / calibration * an extra visual cue to know when the beats are coming up -- something like a measure with the beats drawn on it and a vertical line scrolling along it (Sometimes I had trouble comprehending the rhythm before the section started. Maybe that's meant to be part of the challenge though?)

Great work!

caeonosphere 2018-04-27 06:42

@issac: Definitely agree on the first point. I'll probably add that in shortly. Re: the second point... I worry that it would make the game more about watching the beat indicator (like a normal rhythm game) than about listening to the beat. Maybe the graphics for the rest measures could include a representation of the beat so you at least have a chance to see it.

maesk 2018-05-01 20:13

Surprising game! As I'm not a native english speaker it was kind of difficult to me to get adapted to it, but it is an enjoyable experience and quite an interesting mix of genres.

I would have appreciated some adapted visuals of which word is highlighted, because jumping from one word to the next one is kind of hard (you see next one below but UI moves it up a bit later). Maybe allowing the user to retry words would be nice, like "resetting" the current one when failed, or similar, and then, later, iterating later on difficulty adding with modes and so on.

Nevertheless, I really liked it, it's quite innovative. Congrats!

niterich 2018-05-02 02:11

A very interesting game with some great style! I found the game to be really engaging and in that sweet spot of tough-but-fair, but because I'm not good at typing, I couldn't make it past the 5/4 section. I think what really got to me were when the beat happened on the last quarter note, where I wouldn't have enough time to look at the next word and also re-position my fingers (I can't touch type), or when the beat missed the emphasis on the main beat but the metronome still played it (IE, ONE AND two AND three AND...), since I felt like I should be playing a different rhythm. Besides that, the visuals were appealing and the randomly generated music was a nice touch, though a more structured melody would certainly help.

mortus 2018-05-05 11:48

Great game in many aspects, will definitely try it later and try to master it. I like the displacement of letters placed in the wrong spots a lot. My two biggest issues is that if you press the first letter of a word too early, it won't show at all, so you have to delay it to be safe, and that partially wrong words (with 1 letter typo) are counted as totally wrong. My highest score so far is 17.

radical-dog 2018-05-16 10:01

Congrats on the results! Very nice game, would have liked a slightly slower tempo, and perhaps a chance to listen to rhythms freely between levels rather than just get chucked in!

caeonosphere 2018-05-16 19:27

@radical-dog: Thanks! I'm thrilled. I hadn't planned on giving this another thought, but given the results, I might have to reconsider.

ryderer 2022-04-19 09:49

So sad! If you press the first letter of a word too early, it won’t show at all Also I really like [poppy playtime](https://poppyplaytimeonline.com) game

An intriguing and addictive concoction. I found it a little difficult at first, but once I got the feel of it, I thought it was pretty reasonable in terms of complexity. It really piqued my interest in a return visit. [Wordle Unlimited](https://wordleunlimited.io/)
