LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Follow The Light by BloodJohn 2018-04-23T19:23:42Z

Great graphics and polish! I think controlling with the keyboard would be a little more intuitive, or maybe just fixing the camera and making the boy quicker would be fine. That way it could still work on mobile if you wanted that.

Rhythm Quest by achebit 2018-04-28T21:22:42Z

Love the style of this game! Agree that you'd probably need customizable keys to please everyone. DFJK was kind rough for me, would prefer to just use one hand.

Dropship: Orcs in Space by Ben Hopkins 2018-04-23T16:00:20Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Yeah, that cheese was a result of not getting a feature in -- I'd like there to be towers that your soldiers must defeat before the dropship can pass. Another gameplay bug that helps you cheat a bit is that you can go above max cargo if you pick up many marines at the same moment (i.e. from the same y-coordinate). Definitely some other bugs due to it being my first time with Phaser 3 and Typescript for that matter.

Harvest Royale by neverautomatic 2018-04-23T17:32:00Z

Nice concept, the polish on the finished parts feels good. Personally I really like how fast it is (both the player movement/actions and grow speed). It would be cool to play a version with AI to see how the BR elements could work.

Slice of Screen by Zirrrus 2018-04-23T18:42:06Z

huge innovation. With a few small tweaks it could be more accessible. Maybe just show the player the 'cheat' view in a quick tutorial room (after a few moments of them trying to figure it out), and then take it away. Before that, I couldn't figure out turning (as saying "FPS controls" made me think moving the mouse left and right or using A or D would help turn). At least highlight the right-click turning more I think. Also the jump button doesn't always work when near walls so that added to the initial confusion. Overall great idea and I'd love to see how challenging it could be once it's easier to understand.

Space Maths by mikedirl 2018-04-23T21:25:57Z

Really nice genre mixture! It does get very fast. In the end steering wasn't really necessary, I would just shoot whatever lane and only finish off the number if it was beneficial. Maybe slowing it down but also forcing the player open a gate each round or die could work to balance it out?

The Place by KRP 2018-04-23T16:20:54Z

great job with the mood and graphics! The flashlight is a little too restrictive for my taste. I think it's a good mechanic for a horror game but maybe with soft edges and wider vision range it wouldn't feel a bit awkward.

Beet Running by BlackAtlas 2018-04-23T18:00:14Z

Fantastic job with the lowpoly graphics. I really liked the effects and juicyness all around. It's super cool how you can see the space station with all the levels at the start. The timing was pretty easy, but maybe it just feels that way because there's no downside to mis-timing it. It just needs a reason to move with some urgency and around the map a bit. Maybe some enemies that chase you slowly and some seeds to collect around the outsides. Great name too!

Jing & Jang delivery Co. by Sanguis 2018-04-30T16:36:27Z

The swapping music is great! I really enjoyed the isometric art style. You don't see pixel art at x1 too often these days so seeing it is refreshing. There were a couple times where a car spawned almost directly on me in the top lane haha

Anysma by Chris Magnuson 2018-04-23T16:42:41Z

Once I got the hang of this I really enjoyed it. Nice AI on the enemy fighters, I thought I could just blast past them but they got aligned with me and I had to go back to fight. You do feel kind of like a ship captain with this movement mechanic, although making it any more demanding would probably get frustrating to play.

Danger of the violent woods by Kultisti 2018-04-23T18:13:28Z

super expansive for a game jam, well done. The way the monsters attack you when text pops up is a bit annoying but maybe that's on purpose. The dialogue is funny but repetitive when you've fought the same monster already. I really liked the dash mechanic.

FaSi FiGa by OnePlusOne 2018-04-23T17:46:26Z

I didn't realize at first that the little green dots were seeds that I needed to pick up. For the first level, a very simple tutorial that placed arrows above the thing you need to do would be great. The assets are really well done.

A Knight's Bounty by DarkAnice 2018-04-23T21:41:49Z

Nice rotation on the characters indeed. Movement is good. Giving the hits more impact with some knockback as well as some visual effects is the first thing I'd work on. Things like magic explosions, sword slash, etc. Good start!

Fishing Asteroids by Arbosis 2018-04-28T21:25:10Z

Really well done! The boat and octopus graphics are cute. Absolutely agree with kr4ft3r that holding the buttons would be more relaxing for this type of game.

Stoical Domination by Colin Misbach 2018-04-23T18:54:38Z

I love it! I would probably choose to just have a set amount of crystals collected automatically each turn, or maybe a button with a cooldown to click that collects 100 or so. It's just a bit strange that collecting is based on click speed.

A fleshed-out RTS with the turn mechanics would be really interesting. I like how you have to consider how your units will act on the opponent's turn. Nice job!

Life Simulator 9000 by Alans Antics 2018-04-23T16:10:16Z

Nice humor! The comedic timing of the lines really helped.

Reverse by MrJake7X 2018-04-24T00:35:07Z

Love the characters! Great visual design overall. Only thing that threw me just a bit was the camera angle vs the movement direction. Feel like we've seen games like this in 2d but not many in 3d so I'd be interested to see what you can do.

Meteor Horror by Guvitron 2018-04-23T19:17:25Z

Very fun! Agree that having a double-jump would be very nice in this game. I like that you can see when the big meteor is coming from the huge red light! One little thing is it feels the meteors can turn a little too quickly when they're right next to you. Overall, really fun and complete-feeling game!

Dig Knight by Pixels Everywhere 2018-04-23T16:28:47Z

nice pixel art and the music was cool! The sound effects were a little harsh, maybe just lowering their volume in comparison to music would help.

STEREOtype by caeonosphere 2018-04-23T18:23:37Z

This is so cool. I really love the effect of the tilted letters showing how close you are to hitting the beat. Individual words seem to have appropriate difficulty but it's very hard to recover once you've slightly lost the beat. I think one thing that could really help is having one extra beat between words (I suppose this would really mean having the previous word end on the second to last beat). Great presentation and theme-fulfillment!
