Even though it was kinda repetitive, I really liked the mood and music of the game and it was a pleasant experience :) It sure wasnt easy, because Jang got driven over many times, haha.

dixonary 2018-04-24 16:20

There's sort of a real-time frogger vibe. Jin as a pretty easy time of it, most of the cars stop for him! (Though in real life there'd probably be some horn honking!) Poor old Jang.

Overall the game's not too difficult. The graphics are funny and consistent, and the music is very listenable. Good job!

loonydrope 2018-04-25 10:51

This game is fun! I like the music changing according to what happens. Jin seems to be able to walk through the cars, without being hurt, and the Jang part of the job is harder! I was glad he can respawn! This is a pretty little game, I enjoyed playing it! Feel free to try my first game jam game here if you want! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/education-to-survive

timotheus-25 2018-04-25 11:03

Lol, the way I got run over more times than I care to admit  Really fun game  well done! Love the blood!

siduslevis 2018-04-25 11:08

It was fun, though got run over alot especially when it swapped to the 2nd guy while moving. Good fun little game.

lacre 2018-04-25 11:14

Really nice game (despite I got killed several times xd). Just one little thing, those trees hide the middle character for a few seconds so it's easy to get killed. If you make more levels, it could turn out into a very interesting and challenging game :)

jaime-paz-lopes 2018-04-25 13:10

cool game. While playing with Jin the first line looks buggy, the cars stop for him and one car get stuck inside of another. With Jang some trees cover his start place and make it hard to see, but my problem with him is that there is no delay or button to press when changing characters, i died sometimes with him because i was going forward with Jin, the character changed and Jang just go forward and died.

hanra 2018-04-25 13:32

Nice artwork, fun to play (I started getting run over just to get back to the handover point faster)

lerpish 2018-04-25 13:38

Nice game solid entry nice art and a good gameplay

mintarcade 2018-04-25 13:53

Solid entry. And it actually fun once I stop dying :D , music is nice, and adds perfectly to the whole experience..

jin9310 2018-04-26 09:08

Thank you all (@mintarcade , @Hanra , @LERPish , @siduslevis , @TIMOTHEUS-25 , @loonydrope , @Dixonary , @Iluvatar ) for comments, we really appreciate your feedback. And will try to leave our feedback with your entries as well (big plans for weekend :)).

@jaime-paz-lopes truth is that Jin's line is bit buggy as we didn't have more time to queue the cars properly. However Jang was actually designed that way. We needed to distinguish the 'meditation' line from the 'stress' line. Hence we did not implement any other 'button' that would change between the characters and player shouldn't really rush as Jin, because if he do, Jang will get punished as you mentioned :)

@Lacre more levels are intended already, we just needed to get back to our day-jobs now :-D but hopefully we will be able to get back to this in fore-seeable future

pickens-inc 2018-04-26 14:54

Very solid gameplay loop, it was fun both mechanically and atmospherically, bizarrely enough! I don't even think it needs to be extended by much besides the already mentioned more levels. It's tight, simple, and the music is going to be stuck in my head all day. Great entry!

amras0000 2018-04-26 21:04

All in all the game's not bad; the controls felt a bit off and I could run off the screen, but as has been mentioned the core gameplay loop is relatively fun to play. I do have a couple comments that came up while I was playing: - What is going on with Jin? Really. He changes in a single frame from a monk's tunic to a black delivery uniform. He can walk through cars, and time stops while he's in control. I do kinda like the idea of having a much slower and punishment-free experience to break from Jang's panicked and difficult journeys. But I had no idea what was going on thematically. - Why does Jin go back to his station automatically, but Jang has to run back? - No, really, what the hell is Jin? - The hitboxes on the cars seem a bit off, I'm pretty sure I died a few times while Jang was standing right on the dotted line, or before he entered the road. - Jin is apparently a metaphysical motherfucker who can walk under the screen and walk onto Jang's road. And the cars all stop for him, and he can push cars backwards with his MIND. What the hell? - I can walk on top of buildings but under cars. - The music loops, but stops after a set number of loops if I don't switch to Jang soon enough. - What?

In summary. wat.png

ctran13 2018-04-27 02:20

Interesting game, but just a few notes: - It gets repetitive very quickly. Adding something to change the variety would make it more interesting - Other's have mentioned, but the hit boxes could use some work - There's also some issues with layering. Jin is always under the cars. I know it's a jam, but some little polish like that would really change the feel of the game altogether, and it's a simple fix - Music, i think, is great. Constantly swapping between the slow and quick music makes an interesting dynamic

Hope you keep polishing this one :)

jin9310 2018-04-27 12:43

Thank you guys for your feedback @amras0000 , @ctran13 and special thanks to @pickens-inc for taking his time and streaming our game on his channel.

We are taking notes from the feedback and already preparing some polishing, updates and upgrades. Once again thank you ALL for playing our little game. @amras0000 back to your immense feedback :) Jin truly is someone special and we had to change his gameplay(and also his nature) from Jang somehow. Jin's idle state is 'meditation' and you are right that he is back in his uniform within a single frame. That is intended as we wanted to make an impression of a calm person. That is why he can change in a single frame as his calmness is more of a state of mind rather than physical appearance. Jin going back to his station automatically is also part of that 'calm' experience. So basically as Jin, you don't have to worry about anything, traffic, being run over or getting back on time. You just need to handover the package. He is also significantly slower than Jang. Jang on the other hand is the 'hasty' one. He is constantly rushing and that is causing him stress. That is why we wanted to extend this and Jang needs to overcome more obstacles and even come back. - as you and many others mention, the hitboxes need to be improoved along with some other objects on map (cars, buildings). We will also 'close' the map, so you can't get out of the screen, or to the line of your co-worker. - music loop will be also changed as we did not anticipate that someone would play for one character that long (as we tried to design the level to be switching quite quickly and often between Jin & Jang) I Hope I have covered everything, but in case you would have some other questions/suggestions or comments, please share that with us. :)

We really do appreciate all the feedbacks. Many thanks for that!

king-kujito 2018-04-27 17:27

This is a nice game. Short and sweet.

croewens 2018-04-27 18:54

Hey man! Here is my review.

 What I loved * The concept was funny * The funny music in the background and fits perfect * The controls felt good

:thought_balloon: My thoughts: * I couldn't understand what the point where of the first street I had to cross. They never hit me and just stacked up. Was that intended or a glitch? * Got repetitive very quick. I'd love to see different type of vehicles, maybe power ups or something which would make yuou run faster? * Jin was under a car a lot of the time * the trees on the other side of the road blocked my vision and caused me to get run over a lot :smile * Maybe a little bit more of a story added?

Good job man!

jin9310 2018-04-27 19:35

@croewens Thanks a lot for your feedback! :) To your thoughts: - the car stacking needs to be re-done as we wanted queue instead. Bud they will never hit you, that is intended - we wanted different vehicles but since this was my first time doing isometric graphics, we did not have enough time to create more - I believe you meant Jang got under car very often and that is also intended, as that should be a challenging part of our game - You are not the first one that is telling us about the Trees blocking the vision. To be honest we didn't have time yet to discuss the changes here, but on the day of release we were satisfied with current look (after all Jang's line should be stressing :)) We definitely want to continue our work on this peace, add some more levels, little story and few more things for sure.

Thanks a lot for your time with our game ;)

fashionbatman 2018-04-27 22:09

Cool concept! The art was great, and I especially like the music. Good job!

human 2018-04-28 02:24

Very nice game.I really liked the sounds in particular. Graphics goes with the sound as well.

toulou 2018-04-28 10:51

What a weird game ! It took me a while to understand what was happening. And I have to say, I kind of love it. The weird pixelart isometric graphics is quite nice, and the gameplay, while being basic and repetitive, is kinda fun. There is a lot of charm to this simple game, it's definitely memorable. Good job !

mahdi-daneshvar 2018-04-28 15:17

gamepay was straightforward and simple also Very fun, Love the animation on sprites. Also audio and music fits the overall mood.

linus 2018-04-28 19:05

That was a nice and fun game! I enjoyed the "switching" mechanic between the workers once I understood it but it confused me quite a bit in the beginning. Since there are no real consequences of dying, I don't really feel stressed but I could certainly see how this game could create a lot of stress (and frustration :p) if you lost progress when dying.

The art was really cool and I liked the isometric style. The game was quite humorous too. Well done!

Overall, cool game. It was fun to play.

flaterectomy 2018-04-28 19:07

A very clear contrast in tone for the characters. This game's a bit of an oddball. It has a lot of character due to the music and how each character ends up interacting with the world.

The characters are pretty small on-screen, I would've scaled up the game x2 so they come across a little better. They're scaled up like x3 in the menu, right? I like the art, I would've liked to have been able to see it better.

Nice work overall!

gafblizzard 2018-04-30 06:05

My score was 7-5-6. I didn't envy the job of the worker on the left. He has a very hard life. :'(

Nice music and art style!

dp3rucha 2018-04-30 08:28

Liked the touch of the speeding music when the gameplay goes to the left part. Also the characters names is a good point.

The left character starts hiden by the trees so its confusing when you start controlling it.

Overall is a nice concept.

gentel 2018-04-30 08:59

Interesting game that is particularly impressive on the visual side. The music fits well, and the blood splatter was pretty funny and exaggerated.

I'll say the game would probably be better if it were scaled up a bit - as of now the entire thing is very small. This rules out more interesting Frogger mechanics and also makes you rely a bit on luck with the car spawns.

gaming-night 2018-04-30 09:18

Nice game here, I liked the switching music ;)

pogo 2018-04-30 13:31

I love the music and the change in pace when you swap between the characters! The cars that stop beside you are the most zen penetrating things in the world. The gameplay was a little repetitive, but I think that fits with the theme of manual labour you were going for. Well done on your submission!

ben-hopkins 2018-04-30 16:36

The swapping music is great! I really enjoyed the isometric art style. You don't see pixel art at x1 too often these days so seeing it is refreshing. There were a couple times where a car spawned almost directly on me in the top lane haha

edwingamedev 2018-04-30 23:54

Hey, good game! I liked the slow and fast paced like atmosphere. The audio helped to create the feeling. You could work on some polish but it's up to you, like the collisions and transitions between the 2 delivery guys.

gonutz 2018-05-01 01:58

Why does the game stop when I hit SPACE? What are the controls here? I seem to miss something, I press ENTER after I pick up the box, then the box is in the other guy's hands, I carry it over the street to the yelling guy and then what do I do?

Okay, I am back, now when I go over the street at the bottom, the music changes and somehow I seem to control both characters at the same time? Also the one guy can walk over the roof? This is a very strange experience but I like the graphics and sound. Isometric and 8 bit? Very nice, cool thing, if only I knew how to play this...

paul-avallone 2018-05-01 16:36

I love the art and music in this game a lot. The collisions are a little wonky as the first guy can walk through cars and the second guy can walk on top of the building. I wish their was a better indicator that the package got destroyed or got delivered. I wasn't quite sure some times. If you expand upon the game I would love to see different levels like frogger. The controls felt good and I like the speed difference between the two guys. Great work.

richard-n-silva 2018-05-01 18:46

Nice concept! I really liked the art sytle and the music. The gameplay is easy to understand but hard to master! It's interesting how such a simple chance of pace due to character transition can have such a huge impact on the difficulty!

Great job, congratulation on the project!

jin9310 2018-05-02 07:52

Hello everyone, we had finally some time and did some updates on our game. Thanks you all for great feedback and we hope that the experience from our little game will be bit better now.

Thank you so much for the feedback guys! You are amazing! @Richard-N-Silva , @Ben-Hopkins , @pogo , @Gaming-Night , @fashionbatman , @Human , @Toulou , @mahdi-daneshvar ,

@Linus great to hear that you have enjoyed our game. You are right about the consequences, right now you'll get just a minor time penalty, but this is definitely on our list, what we want to add. But since some penalization would a be quite a great new feature, we want to take time to thing this through

@Flaterectomy , @gentel Thanks for your feedback and we will thing about changing the scale, and since we want to polish the details of each object soon it might nice. But overall we need to be careful about the scaling as I am afraid it might change the whole gameplay since player wouldn't be able to see the whole 'map'. But we'll see about that ;)

@gafblizzard that is great score. If you would like to chalange us with your score, to this day the high score is 14 delivered boxes ;) Feel free to beat us :) beat this.png

@dp3rucha in recent update, we have changed the handover area a bit. It is now more 'spacy', so the trees should not cover your character anymore ;)

@EdwinGameDev you can check our new update, where we polished some things a little ;) Thanks for the feedback!

@Paul-Avallone Thank you for the comments. We have already changed the collisions and walking off map and on the top of the roof :) Jin can still walk thru the cars but this is the part of that zen experience (but we'll fix that as well :)). All the indicators about time, delivered boxes, deaths etc... will be also implemented in the future, the only thing we are missing now, is the TIME :)

@gonutz really don't know what went wrong here :) All the details should be in the game description ;) The truth is that the problems you mention (walking off the map, SPACE restarting the game, walking on the roof) are there. We have fix those just yesterday. I am bit confused that you did not know how to control our game since all that info is really in the game description :) But basically all you need are just the arrows (and mouse in menu). You are starting as Jin (the guy on the right side), you go to pick up the box (no need to press anything) and that you go across the street to the place where the other guy is staying (that would be Jang), once you are there the box will be handed over (again no need to press anything) and you will now control Jang and he needs to deliver the box across the road and get back. That is it :)

We have just today released a new update of our game, that is fixing most of the things that you guys mention in your feedback. So now you can go and check that out here : https://jin9310.itch.io/jinjangdeli . Since there are lot of changes we will keep the original version of the game also available. Thank you all for your support! And have a great day! :)

indiemaniac 2018-05-02 11:36

Hitbox on the middle of the road should be bigger,or there should be some transition so Jang isnt imediately ran over after picking the box up. Music gets a bit repetitive after a while

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-05-02 16:12

Good job! Cool game! I liked the game, but I could not understand where the theme of the jam comes in.

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/witchs-escape

jin9310 2018-05-02 17:58

@cristiano-m-garcia Thanks a lot for your feedback. The theme come in the transition between the Calmness of Jin (right side) and the Stressfulness of Jang (left side of the road). And we are already planning to continue with this project, we have first update done and more to come ;) I also played your entry and left you a comment ;) Cheers

jin9310 2018-05-03 12:21

@IndieManiaC thanks for playing our game. The place in the middle is actually intended to work the way it works now. I fully understand your point and it is true that you can be ran over basically instantly. But try to understand our vision as well. If we'll make the hand area wider, it will be easier to player to deal with the traffic. Same thing would happen if you would be forced to press any button to hand-over the package. The stress and frustration would be gone. And we don't want that. We want to show you how big difference is between 'meditative' state and 'stress' state. The gap is huge. And if player will ignore this difference, he will get hurt and will drop dead in a second. But if the player tries to understand the different behavior and will try to find the balance between those 2 different states, he can actually thrive on this and get perfect result. That was our idea, how to show you guys, our approach to 2 incompatible genres. :)

mau 2018-05-03 16:19

The game is really fun, I hated the drivers on the left side. Maybe a birds eye perspective could improve the perception of the game, instead of the isometric one. Good work :). Check out my game if you haven't https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/goal-defense

macdoom 2018-05-04 06:06

HAHAHA! Blood splatters! Poor Jang have a much more rougher job than Jin's. Great attemp to mix two incompatible concepts but it didn't felt like 2 incompatible genres. Awesome graphics and adequate audio contribute to an oldschool atmosphere. Great job!

Come and try mine! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/tactical-hydra

samuelsousa 2018-05-04 08:23

These drivers are mean :) Love the music, reminds of old days NES and pixel art to. Gameplay wise it feels like frogger with 2 levels Very nice entry!

markram 2018-05-04 14:23

I needed a few trys before figuring out how to actually play the game, even so, it was kind of funny, i also enjoyed the music !

haharo 2018-05-04 16:52

Very good submit, thank you!

estacaomarte 2018-05-04 18:28

Funny game, really enjoyed it :D Its amazing how every game I saw in this JAM so far is unique in one way or another <3

ruslana 2018-05-04 21:49

Cute game. Nice gameplay :)

amazura 2018-05-06 19:46

*'Sir.., someone died!'*

*'I don't care! just pick up that damn boxes'*

I really enjoyed this game. a simple and fun gameplay, the arts and music are fitting as well. Good work

gastricsparrow 2018-05-07 11:09

Clean graphics, nice music, a lot of funny moments. Really enjoyable and fun. You did a great job!

kpded 2018-05-07 18:10

Very nice artstyle and music. The fountains of blood and endless supply of Jangs are things I like the most ) It feels like the core mechanics could be scaled to a more sophisticated levels. Well done!

2018-05-08 03:54

I played both the 5.0 and the 5.4 versions, and I must say you're using your user feedback quite well.

**The Good:**

I really liked what you were going for here. The change between the slow-paced, leisurely Jin and the hectic and frantic Jang was highlighted well by the change in music. The gameplay itself was functional and fun a lot of the time. All of this meshes well with the music to create a nice, cohesive experience. I think the overall feel of the game, and it could have a lot of potential.

**The Needs-Improvement:**

This game is in some serious need of polishing. The basic controls in 5.4 are good enough, but a lot of other things are less than optimal.

-The title screen is probably the worst offender: this is supposed to be the big hook to draw you into the game, but it just reuses some in-game graphics against a blank background and boring soundtrack? Similarly, the game ends very anticlimactically, with the cars getting awkwardly stuck in place and a simple "You Win" screen.

-Some of the graphics clash pretty badly with one another. The pixelated larger font and what looks like the Game Maker default blood particles stick out the most to me.

-The lack of sound effects was a major letdown, since sound effects can be used to provide feedback to the game or to just create a more believable world (honking cars, yelling boss, etc.)

-There's certainly a disconnect between the gameplay and the theme. Why, from a gameplay perspective, do we play Jin's part? His sections are neither engaging nor rewarding to play, and only seems to exist to highlight the difference between the two.

-The game got repetitive pretty quickly.

-There's a distinct lack of feedback for when, for example, you drop off a box or you get reincarnated. There's no big hurrah to tell you you've done well or messed up, it all just sort of ... happens.

**The What-I-Would-Do's**

I would rethink the role of Jin in the game, as his section could be seen as just wasting time. I would suggest putting power-ups on this section to help you in Jang's section - some kind of "a little bit of light in every shadow" type mentality going on.

To further illustrate the difference between the two, I would make Jang's section harder than the 5.4 release, which I thought was way too easy. Maybe for the first level to get players interested and accustomed to the controls, but it should get difficult quickly.

I would add more content and levels to keep the player interested, even if it's just different locations to work at and different sized cars and trucks to avoid.

Add the little features that help bring the game to life like sound effects, a more robust HUD, and some more unique particle effects like when you successfully deliver a box.

Sorry if this comes across as harsh, I just want to see you guys reach your maximum potential.

mic-matrix91 2018-05-08 22:05

I like the old arcade game style, the graphics, music and audio effects! It's a simple but funny nice game! After a while it becomes a bit repetitive, but the fact that is a short game is ok! Good work!

duck-games 2018-05-10 12:49

Very good game! Kind of repetitive though and the timer was not concrete as it stopped an started at random time. But a very good game nonetheless.

krammetje 2018-05-11 21:58

Fun game, quite interesting.

mza 2018-05-12 19:01

Nice little game. Fairly polished game. I'm refering to the latest updated version.

Jin (or the guy who meditates) seems to be immortal to car crashes. Correct me if im wrong?

Great work!!

goat-toaster-games 2018-05-14 01:57

Haha I really enjoyed this! I love the differences with the two characters. I also love how when you respawn it shows the body of where you last died. Really nice concept and polished graphics. Well done!!

oab 2018-05-14 14:54

Wow! It's a frogger. Nice graphic/ sounds. I hoped this game has ending story. So, It will make the game more interesting. :)

anubhav-kashyap 2018-05-15 15:17

This game is so much fun! I love the way the music changes. Great work!

michipantera 2018-05-15 15:34

The graphics recalled me of old classic game that I love. Very classy and cult game. The idea of the gameplay simple but great. Like best games are. I would really enjoy playing that on arcade machine in a bar, while having a beer. Thank you for your game!! :)
