Reminiscent of Snakebird, but the special tiles add a nice twist. Good job, y'all!
Well done ! You're game is very understandable and all four level were intuitive without being too easy. Congratulation about making good level of puzzle game in such a short time ;) Plus you fit the theme not once, but twice !
Wow, amazing puzzle game! Had a great time working through it. I felt like level 3 was the hardest one.
Cool concept and really used the theme well.
Impressed, The way you designed your levels is really great, the mecanics and the sounds are really immersive too. I hope there will be more levels in the future where I could spent my free time. Well Done !
I really like the idea!
Appreciated the fact that you have time to experiment with the different tiles and restart when you make a mistake. The music matches this impression of non-stressing game and I really liked that.
Good puzzle game!
This was fun. I know that it's part of a whole lineage of snake variations, but it still felt fresh, inventive and surprising. The 4 levels were good, would play more!
Interesting game, I like the aesthetic. I don't really understand where the levels are getting at though, there isn't really any form of challenge.
Classical snake without any idea to make something different. Sorry goy but I can't do anything else but rate it 2.5
The second level took me an emberassing amount of time to complete. Wish there were more levels. The hole-traversal mechanic is great and would allow for a large number of additional puzzles.
Got stuck on level 3. Nice twist on the snake mechanic. I once lost all my body pieces, but couldn't eat any eggs even through I still had a head. It was frustrating to get stuck and have to hit R to reset and lose all of my progress just because I went in the wrong way somewhere. I liked how you needed to think about traveling over the holes just right.
Very intresting!
Okey, i'm ended last level and it was pretty good. From idea to realization. And this background music very cool. Nice work !!!
Nice job, this is a pretty fun puzzler. There's room to build this out into a bigger game.
Aside from the egg, the function of the other icons/objects wasn't immediately clear. I had to use them to find out what they did. I wish there were twelve of these levels!
This game is awesome! I got stuck after a few puzzles, but the ideas are very interesting. Great controls, fun music, solid art, challenging level design. Neat way to implement the theme!
I enjoyed this game. It was challenging enough to be interesting and easy enough to feel successful. The music is pleasant without being distracting. The sound effect when the snake eats an egg is clipping, though; the signal is too loud for my speakers, so it sounds distorted. Congratulations on a game that feels complete!
@wrenpirate sorry about the clipping... Thanks for the feedback! Is it the "chewing" sound or the other sound that is clipping?
@mgoadric Maybe we'll add some way to backtrack some limited steps maybe? Thanks for the feedback!
@sosaddude @flaterectomy @sam-estep @synth @donitz @caeonosphere @sinnis @matank @talyn @loonydrope @mrbehemoth Thanks for playing and the feedback!
@skyrex Sorry you feel that way, but thanks for the feedback!
@krasse The sound when I first roll over an egg is clipping. I don't know how else to describe it.
Great atmosphere, nice puzzles and cohesive music ! I really enjoyed how everything comes together so well. Even if don't really like the aesthetic, it was really really clear and efficient. I hope there'll be more puzzles, it was too short (and a bit too easy) ! Well done !
Really liked the take on the theme and twist on Snake! There were some floor blocks which looked like obstacles - they stuck out and didn't blend in the bg. Puzzles were otehrwise well thought out, well done!
@eryph Would you mind elaborating on why you didn't like the aesthetic? Just want to know how I can improve. Thanks for playing!
@hadi-danial I find it pretty but I don't like the style, it's just personal taste ;)
@eryph Oh haha okay, fair enough! Thanks!
Very fun puzzle game :) Not too hard but the different elements really make you think before you move. Catchy music and cute visuals. Very polished for a jam game!
Sweet. The music is fantastic
Good game in all regards :D - I liked the sound effects, the art-style as it did what was required and it fit the gameplay really well! I especially like the level design, it kept me thinking and the difficulty increased with each level while the solution was rather easy after taking my time to look at the level.
It wouldve been nice to have some sort of animation for the wall part that opens up when youve collected the eggs and for the vines as it was a bit difficult to see at times, and as youve said during the stream, a tutorial wouldve been nice. But ah well a great game nontheless :)
Nice teamwork guys, great effort and it'd be nice if you continued on the game :D
I like the music, it looks like just a snake game but there is an interesting element of puzzle to it. I enjoyed the game, good job putting it together!
@twinghosts There's a vid on your acc =D Thanks! I had trouble watching in real time for some reason. Thanks again for playing!
Really clever level design and an amazing take on a classic game. Everything feels solid and seems to make sense, great entry!
Fun game! I only managed to drop the snake into a hole like 40 times :)
@aguakev @hadi-danial @cloudcraft @krasse We've finished Part 1 of our Play and Rate video for Ludum Dare 42, and we've added it per your response. Check it out! https://youtu.be/vuUp1EYEiuA (The video may be uploading for a little while. If so, check back after a day or so)
@koala-squad thanks! Will watch when its done uploading. One thing, the game name is Snakescape, not Hissterics like it says in the description (we renamed it after we made the page), but its not a big deal. Thanks for playing and rating!
I blocked myself on the start of the level 3 and couldn't find a way to restart the game. In a case of being trapped, it would be nice for the game to restart.
Otherwise it's a nice light puzzle game. Fits quite well for the theme, moderately innovative.
Graphics and audio are both functional.
I could imagine this being nice game for mobiles.
@keppu You can press 'R' to restart, which should have been an ingame hint, but time ran out. We tried to put it in the description of the game as in-your-face as we could, but it is obviously not an optimal solution. Thanks for playing and the feedback!
snake mix with puzzles. I wish there were some more levels. and the game looks also very polish. I think you did great on this one.
Nice game. Its like a 2D Snake Pass. It would be helpful if the snake was a bright or contrasting color from the level. Sometimes it took a second to figure out where I was starting from.
Very fun game, some challenging puzzles. I did find one issue, where if you don't have any body parts you can't get any more, although I don't think it was possible to complete the level from where I was so it wasn't too much of a problem.
@wevel Yup, this is the second time I've noticed it, thanks for reporting. I think I know what causes it, so hopefully it'll be fixed in the post-jam version, when we finally find time to work on it:p
Thanks for playing!
Great game, just couldn't beat the last level D:
I thought I was going to hate it. But I was pleasently suprised. Nice little twists and subtle challenges. Great work.
Good puzzle game, really liked the design of the puzzles. It reminded me of Snake Pass a lot. Music was nice! Had a good time with this one. :)
nice game one of the classics x) but somtimes idk why it dies in certain places and doesn't in others
Nice! This game is actually very good, the design is well thought and polished and it's also fitting the theme. If you refine the graphics and polish around the rough edges you could literally sell this game by simply adding more levels. Well done team!
I liked the game. You took the classic Snake game and turned it into a puzzler. The mechanics were a little different, and the icons were not always the clearest on what they would do. I still do not know why the purple drops removed one of the pieces of your body. There were some tricky elements you needed to resolve to complete some of the puzzles. I didn't understand what would make the briers start to grow, but once they did, I would get cut off quite quickly. They served as a sort of timer. I just wish they were more predictable.
Thank you for sharing your game.
@saoi-games To be honest, the purple drop thing was supposed to be a placeholder and I couldn't redo it in time, it definitely doesn't fit in with the rest. Neither does the egg, but that was last minute. And I believe the more you move, the more the vines grow. Thank you for playing!
Nice game,I like it; Realy realy good level design; Control could be better; see you next ludum dare;
Wow! This is so polished. This is one of the best entries I played so far! Good job. I especially liked transition effects between levels (it is rarely seen in LD games) and audio effects. The only thing I missed (or overlooked?) was the current level number displayed between levels. In 4th level I started thinking about how many levels I already finished... ;-) It also reminded me of one of my first games I implemented on ZX Spectrum compatible computer more than 20 years ago. The game was called Colonel Caterpillar and had similar game mechanics (yes, it was puzzle game inspired by Snake).
