Interesting, but i think that dash is too quick, but u did a great job.

mharring 2019-04-30 02:08

Love your implementation of the theme - choosing to lose certain aspects of yourself was very cool. Very fun and engaging. I found The camera moved around a bit too much. I also had trouble seeing some enemies due to the pillars in the foreground. Overall fun to play - great job!

314owen 2019-04-30 03:58

This game is beautiful. It reminds me of my own game in a way but much better implemented.

jedineeson 2019-04-30 04:02

Realy fun game to play, GG!

kritz 2019-04-30 04:07

Very good game. Solid controls, very smooth. Sounds sometimes don't sync, but the sound track is super. I envy your musical talents...

manuel-rauber 2019-04-30 16:08

Working quite good! controls are snappy. It's a bit strange that you can dash multiple times within the air, but that makes the game a little faster in the end.

For some bosses, it's not clear when they attack and you simply loose life. Trying to figure out how to dash/jump to avoid it.

Overall, nicely done!

hermitao 2019-04-30 16:16

Hello! @lshiro left a really nice comment in my game and I came here to play yours. Unfortunately, the screen is black after the intro. I can see the helmets on the top of the screen, but the rest is just black. I also can hear the sound. I'm in a Mac.

lshiro 2019-04-30 16:22

@hermitao that's really weird, intro text should appear, but as we don't have Mac in our team, we couldn't try playing it on Mac. I can advise you to try pressing Space when that screen appears, to skip text, but maybe then all other texts won't appear.

@manuel-rauber once you've figured out the bosses' patterns, they're really simple, except maybe the last one

And everyone, thanks for your feedback :)

predrag 2019-04-30 17:47

Overall, a great game. I liked how smooth it was, although the controls were a bit uncomfortable for me. There are a little bugs when climbing you can get stuck in a block. Also really love the animation when you enter a bossfight. Also a great fit for the theme. Good job!

jibier 2019-04-30 18:28

very nice game

szabe 2019-04-30 21:04

Really polished experience. Sprites look really amazing and the design is a solid foundation. The narrative is interesting too, and I liked that it actually played a part in the game. The visuals are top notch and so are the enemies. I do have to issues, first the controls are a bit uncomfortable and the enemies hurt you without even playing their attack animation. Since controlling the player is a bit slippery, it makes the fights really unfair.

hugolnx 2019-04-30 21:55

Great game! Loved the idea of the player choosing which abilities to give up through the game. My only critic on the game is about the hit collision areas which weren't clear to me. The minotaur seems to be impossible to jump his attack, and even though I was pretty sure I couldn't get hit, it did hit me, so I wasn't sure what was happening, I could kill him though haha

fahim-faysal 2019-05-01 05:14

I love it. Great interpretation of the theme. You can either give up your past life or sacrifice the possibility of a better future. The front only vision limitation made the game much more harder than I expected. The game was a bit too difficult for me to reach the end. Is there a twist?

The intro was great. I liked that it sort of synced with the music. It would've been great if there was a seperate track for exploration. That way the intro would feel even more special.

I found the controls a bit wonky but but it's unavoidable considering the time limit. Great job!

andreb 2019-05-01 10:41

Cool game, cool art! The controls are a bit wonky, and the collisions of the character with the walls could be better.

But overall cool entry

lshiro 2019-05-01 11:59

@fahim-faysal Glad you liked it ! The game actually has 4 different endings, depending on what you chose to sacrifice, the only really good ending being when you sacrifice your body 3 times.

And everyone else, thanks again for your feedback !

godsboss 2019-05-01 16:12

Are game speed and running speed somewhat disrelated? I just tried three times to jump over that first lava lake, but it was impossible. Switched from fullscreen mode to "normal" mode and did it easily? Effect shows in both Firefox 66.0.3 and Chrome 65.0.3325.181 on Debian Linux.

lshiro 2019-05-01 16:16

@godsboss Actually, the game runs differently on the webGL and desktop version, as there are 60 FPS instead of 30, but for that lava lake, you're supposed to dash above it (Left Shift)

jamesolivermusic 2019-05-01 16:37

Graphically, my favourite so far. Some of the animations were disappointing though, like when you kill an enemy it would be nice to see some kind of transition rather than just disappearing or appearing on the floor. It doesn't feel as satisfying to hit an enemy as it looks like it should, if that makes sense, as the graphics are so amazingly polished.

The music seems a little mismatched as well... The initial piece and the second one I heard sounded like they didn't fit from a production standpoint. Check the looping of the first track as well, and perhaps vary it so it doesn't get too repetitive. Nice SFX though.

Overall a very memorable game, especially the graphics which were one of the best I've seen in this jam so far. Kudos :D

deprecat 2019-05-02 00:14

We actually had very similar mechanics! I also had features where you can sacrifice eyes, ability to hear, and the like. It's cool to see a different take on similar mechanics!

The graphics are really nice and I enjoy the core concept (It'd be weird if I didn't) but I do have some notes:

- Remap the keyboard or, in the future, let your players remap the keyboard. X and C felt awkward for me to use personally. I And having Shift be my dash had me turn on Sticky Keys if I pressed it too many times

- Fighting enemies should have a little more feedback. I felt like I wasn't doing much to them (I had a similar problem. I tried including knockback in my game but didn't have time to correct the major collision issues that caused). Maybe just having more of a visual indicator on the hits would help

- The motion blur felt like a lot to me. I'm not the type to feel very sensitive to those kinds of things but I felt it a bit here. Some people can feel ill with too much motion blur, so it may be a good idea to allow players to toggle it on/off

Really great work!

lshiro 2019-05-02 01:59

@deprecat Yeah, I played your game as well, and found it pretty cool, but didn't leave a comment, because it was really good, and didn't really know what constructive feedback I could give, but I found it pretty funny when I sold my eye, and suddenly, I couldn't even see the guy who was buying it. Thanks for your feedback !

jjjjason 2019-05-02 04:19

Quite pretty, you just know I'm a sucker for light effects on pixel art. That plus the actual art and animation itself all contributes very well to this grim fantasy vibe. The music I feel could be workshopped a little bit more to have the level of polish as the rest of the assets, but I actually quite liked the game over music!

Gameplay-wise, jumping and dashing both felt pretty good to me. I do agree though that combat feels a little thin due to the lack of feedback, although that might just be due to my lack of hearing (pretty cool effect on that by the way, didn't see that coming). I also do really like how the majority of the monsters you can actually avoid. I don't have time to fight, I'm saving my love!

And of course, who would choose anything but sacrificing your body? (spicy!)

lshiro 2019-05-02 13:05

@jjjjason You totally got the spirit of the game ! But I can tell you that some early testers decided to sell their soul after dying too much. And you're right, losing your hearing causes you to not hear the monsters' attacks anymore, or your character's sounds, but we failed to think about an attack feedback, as many people mentioned now, apart from a slight color change on the enemies when they get hit, but with so little lighting, it's clearly not that visible. Thanks for your feedback !

duke 2019-05-03 17:36

Holy shit, is that guy on crack!

The audio visual part of the game is astonishing. Very polished, great animation and the soundtrack is fitting the general mood very well. The writing and the general theme itself is well chosen and contructed. So it's even sadder that the core gameplay cannot keep up. The controls were all over the place and the fighting system lacked any responsivness and satisfaction. My hitbox seemed a bit too large since I got hit multiple of times against my intuition. The game speed itself was way to fast, my character was flying through the level like sonic. There a lot of potential there, I hope you can stil work on the project post-jam. It would be really nice to play this game as a short well balanced fantasy platformer with a good meele combat system.

Keep it up! I hope you can finish this project

t-bo 2019-05-03 17:48

Really fun game with nice controls ! Great graphics and beautiful music ! Amazing job ! Congrats !

maggardjosh 2019-05-04 01:34

Beautiful graphics, music got a little repetitive and the hitboxes felt a little off. I felt like I shouldn't have gotten hit so easily, but at the same time it felt like I found that I could hit enemies from further away than I expected. I tried a couple times to make it to the end without sacrificing memory (because who is going to do that? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) but couldn't make it. Really liked your take on the theme, choosing what to lose was actually an interesting choice. Good work!

kerdelos 2019-05-09 20:54

Overall this is a great game. A bit too dark sometimes. I liked how you introduced mechanics one after the other but some levels could also be shorter (like the beginning when you can only jump). The modifiers like only seeing in front of you are funny and twists the usual game experience so congrats !

adam-clayden 2019-05-09 21:16

Nice game, nice graphics. I recognise some of the characters from the recent humble bundle. I'd say you need more visual/audio feedback when you hit enemies. Also when you get hit back. It was quite hard to determine where I needed to be in order to make contact and without getting hit back. Perhaps adding some invincibility frames when getting hit could help with this. Also any flashes, sounds etc on the enemy when they get hit would help improve the game. Everything else is pretty well made, good job!

mika-la-grand 2019-05-11 17:34

The boss with axe seems to be impossible to jump over without taking damage and the guys shooting arrows were very hard to dodge. I couldn't get past the second guy with the arrows, because it was too hard. You can also partially glitch into walls (by just walking into them). I also agree with @adam-clayden that it's difficult to determine from where you need to attack enemies so that you don't take damage. It would also be nice if there were more checkpoints and ways to regain health.
