LOVE the concept. An endlessly repeating and randomizing dream is an awesome way to combine those genres.
There is no MacOS version, only DreamWorld.exe I couldn't play and rate, unfortunately Could you please upload the actual MacOS build?
The difficulty of the platforming is fine but there is not much value to replay after one playthrough. The theme is quite good as falling down the platform is what people can dream of. It is quite fun to jump and dodge too.
@firellon Thank you for your report. I'm very sorry. I added a executable jar download on the shop site. Hopefully this will work. If not, could you pls give me an advise, because I have no mac and I'm not sure how to export the game correctly for mac-users.
Neat game! Good atmosphere and music.
Loved the art-style!
I wish you had maybe 2-3 lives, because restarting every single time you get hit got kinda frustrating :/
Other than that, solid entry!
This is a nice take on both roguelikes and platformers ! The first thing I did when I started my playthrough was, obviously, falling down, and you can imagined how surprised I was to see a procedurally generated level come to my feet gain ! The jumping might feel a bit stiff, although I guess it adds the necessary challenge.
On an aesthetical standpoint, I really loved the music and the minimalist graphics, although I felt like not having the same pixel size for the sun, the clouds and the platforms made the whole thing a little artificial. I'm nitpicking though, on what is otherwise a really good game !
This was really well-presented. The graphics made me think of Knytt and Fez, so great job on that front!
The platforming was tricky! The furthest I got was to two of the four ends. I agree that a life system might be useful. But that's just my impatient self talking
I did come across a bug, however. After getting the top-right corner I jumped off the right side of the platform which caused the game to freeze. Maybe worth adding an invisible wall or some kind of instant death there to cover it?
Anyway, nice title. Like it!
@Articulated9 Thanks a lot for the feedback ^^ I'm glad you liked it and I think the reason for the bug is my Collisonsystem ;-; I'll try to fix it and I also want to thank @JLV for the really great and constructive feedback and @drikdrok , @evil-as-shit , @Skyc , @Hannah19, @firellon and also @Hannah19 for their feedback it really helps a lot :)
Great concept! I dig the procedural level idea. It's a very unforgiving game which is exactly what I expect in a rogue-like. There's something satisfying about hopping off the edge and free falling back into the level. There's no escape! I came across a bug that I haven't seen anyone mention which leads me to believe it could be on my end. Every time I played, at some point the screen would randomly go black but the game would continue running (I could still hear myself jump and enemies shoot). I installed the Java runtime to play the game and didn't restart (wasn't prompted to) so not sure if that had an impact or not. I'll try it again later after I reboot to see if it has any effect.
[edit] Fired it up again today after rebooting and still came across the bug. Doesn't happen with any specific action but it goes all black every play for me before I can complete the level. Playing on a 4K monitor if that matters at all [/edit]
Very nice looking game, and the roguelike element is quite a plus! The fall mechanic is really good. The game is also really difficult, a bit too much, perhaps a health system would have been nice. I got a freeze at some point too, not sure what triggered it though. I didn't understand the connection to theme either.
Such a cool idea and the art is attractive and works well together. Well done!
To run the game on a mac you need to run "java -jar Dream\ World.jar " in the terminal in the folder where you extracted it. Had some issues with the controls at the start of the game, started working correctly after I fell a few times. You got the mood in the game right :)
@Pixelome and the other thank you for your feedback. I'll try to fix that soon :)
Nice choice of theme and direction. Great audio and solid visuals. Well done.
Love the mood and audio. Very sad story.. Nicely done!
While the game has less roguelike elements than I thought it would, it was still really good! Randomly generated world is nice, although I think it would be better if it regenerated each time you died and just saved pieces of artifact you picked up. I also don't think it is intended but if you take one of the upper paths and pick the artifact, you can just drop down and fall very near the artifact on the lower path, this way you only need to complete 2 paths instead of 4. My favourite part was propably the setting of the game and the atmosphere, full points in mood!
Neat game. Very difficult, but seems to work okay.
I think my main complaint is that it takes way too long to fall around the world again. I would fall off the edge a lot, and have to wait a couple of seconds before I could try again, which was really frustrating.
The hitbox on the enemy projectiles is also somewhat difficult to get a feel for. Sometimes I could dodge a bullet very closely, but other times I would be killed when just in the general vicinity.
The game is awesome! I like the music and artstyle. The mechanics that after falling brings me back to the beginning makes everything happening like in a dream, very cool feature
Good work, but the games was too repetitive, only have one kind of challenge that was really stretched.
Very dreamy atmosphere and nice music, but the enemies were just a little too hard to dodge, and its really easy to fall off while trying to dodge. More of a roguelite.
