LD44 — Your life is currency

Daybreak Inn by Joror 2019-04-30T15:43:23Z

I can't believe this game was made in a weekend! I've been the adventurer before -- every D&D campaign starts at an Inn -- but it was fun to be the Inn Keeper and be the one sending people off on quests. The art is cute and the gameplay is fun.

I couldn't quite figure out how to attract more adventurers. The ones I had were not strong enough for some of the quests and I didn't know how to attract more or to level them up other than by sending them on quests. I also wasn't sure if I was supposed to be doing something to keep people from being bored and wandering off.

Great game!

Grim & Tonic by Calzep 2019-04-30T17:56:39Z

The graphics and sound are great, but the intro was way too long. I ended up skipping it after a while, which is a shame. The gameplay was fun, but I wasn't quite sure which matches to avoid and what some of the pieces did. Great fun! I really liked the retro style and anything cocktail themed is always a win in my book.

Oligarch by Thirsty 2019-04-30T15:28:35Z

@PseudoBytes you can use the space bar to get through the cut scene faster.

Pixel's Inferno by boddiul 2019-04-30T12:02:13Z

I really enjoyed exploring hell and the life-swap mechanic was fun. I'm not sure I did the levels in the right order... I did sexy>rain>bags but then I got stuck in the push-bags-around level because I couldn't move any of the bags or find who to swap lives with. I can't believe you made this whole game on your phone -- great job.

Pixel's Inferno by boddiul 2019-04-30T13:40:37Z

@wrimo My guess was that the one person you needed to find was the person who didn't give the canned response on that level and that's how you told them apart.

ShellShark! by Yngvarr 2019-04-30T18:42:25Z

I think I'm still not quite sure how I beat the shark (I am not a TCG player), but the graphics were fun and the gameplay was smooth. I think with an intro and some sound effects this would be super-fun for TCG players. It might be an especially nice way to introduce younger players to the genre.

IVAN THE BILLIONAIRE by kiv 2019-04-30T16:02:25Z

I'm not quite sure that my end goal was -- but I had fun buying and selling random stuff. Lol. I can't believe you made an MMORPG in a weekend. Молодец!

Dr. Ectomy by BoxedMeatRevolution 2019-04-30T18:36:37Z

This game was polished and the art style is delightful. Great job!

Reap into Cash by vulpineblazeyt 2019-04-30T11:41:41Z

That was fun! With a more robust AI and some levels, I could see this being a fun game to kill time while waiting in the carpool line. Great job!

Finding Cookie by samh 2019-04-30T13:44:52Z

Screen Shot 2019-04-30 at 9.42.53 AM.png

I'm getting this error message when I try to play (Safari v 12.1) and Chrome.

Heartaker by lukbebalduke 2019-04-30T18:05:55Z

I love! love! LOVE! the art style and cinematics of the game. Wow. It is so beautiful. And the movement mechanism is fun. I especially love the slow cam when you die.

The music got a little repetitive and I kept getting stuck on the screen where you are supposed to buy another turn.

Overall, WOW. I was looking forward to this one based on the screen shots you posted and I was not disappointed.

Oh. And one more minor quibble (you know I loved the game when I am taking enough time to point out something this small).. in your intro credits you have "It is not enough" she spoke. That scans kind of oddly in English. Might I suggest 'she replied' or 'she responded'.

Idle Idol by Daniel Moreno 2019-04-30T22:01:00Z

The music and graphics were beautiful; the squeaky noise was too squeaky. Great clicker game with a beautiful aesthetic.

Petite Cuiller by lagrume-masque 2019-04-30T21:27:58Z

The graphics and storytelling are beautiful, but I wish there were more choices so you could see the consequences of your (over) action.

Deadline by Evan Minto 2019-04-30T14:48:03Z

Screen Shot 2019-04-30 at 10.46.55 AM.png

I can't get past this screen -- neither clicking with my mouse nor pressing any key on my keyboard seems to work. (Mac, Safari)

Deadline by Evan Minto 2019-04-30T16:16:16Z

@evan-minto Ah! I'll try that and give it a play through.

Pig Web Tower Defense by Kevin Palani 2019-04-30T01:55:26Z

Nice! For some reason the buttons were a little janky on my Mac running Safari (I couldn't always click on them), but it was a fun little tower defense game that really fits with the theme.

Bread And Games by Theodull 2019-04-30T19:34:44Z

I love the art style and the concept is a lot of fun but I couldn't tell when I was actually doing damage to my opponents. Great job!

Evil Dungeon by Balance686 2019-04-30T15:22:38Z

I love the flashlight lighting up the dungeon -- it really makes you feel like you are lost in a maze and adds to the atmosphere. Some spooky music would have made it really awesome. Was I supposed to be able to interact with the barrels? I quite enjoyed your game!

Evil Dungeon by Balance686 2019-04-30T19:20:15Z

I hear ya! I had to keep simplifying my game to have a finished product, too. :-) Funny enough, my game is also a maze exploration game where you have to use up your life to explore.

The dangerous life of an indie dev by ougrouk 2019-04-30T21:21:18Z

This game is too relatable and the pixel art s great.

Moneyons! by Maytch 2019-04-30T19:09:06Z

The pixel are and music are adorable, but I feel particularly dense (or maybe tired) because I could not figure out how to get off of the first screen.

Moneyons! by Maytch 2019-04-30T19:18:34Z

Ah. I got the throw monyons part and I got the block to have a face but I didn't figure out how to interact with it -- got it! Thank you.

I went back an played some more. Thanks for the hint.

Killing in the name of... by sver 2019-04-30T18:29:14Z

Ha! I killed many villagers in the name of MOM, but in the end she got pissed and destroyed the island. That was a fun and different game. Unfortunately this mom is older so I could barely see the character to click on them. Maybe a top-down view and more zoomed in would have made it easier to see the villagers so I could better appreciate their screams as they were heaved into the lava.

About Ten Years by OddSocks 2019-04-30T12:14:06Z

I really like the art style and the movement felt nice. The Press E interactions were sometimes hard to invoke. After a while, I just wan't sure why I was wandering around or what I was supposed to be doing, I think a little guidance on what I was looking for next would have helped me. I'm amazed how big a world you build out in a weekend and some of the dialog was great (like the line about the scythe being ornamental).

Guttula (HTML) by SnufkinsHat 2019-04-30T15:48:44Z

@boxedmeatrevolution Mana was originally going to be how you leveled up and got bigger, but I had some bug issues so I had to pull that. It was supposed to force you to chose between conserving water and gaining power :-)

Guttula (HTML) by SnufkinsHat 2019-04-30T18:22:49Z

@kiddychris I agree -- for the tradeoff to be meaningful you need to have a more tangible reward for the tradeoff other than just seeing the cacti bloom.

100 leaves by neverix 2019-04-30T13:53:36Z

The art style is fun and the game play is unusual. The music didn't load for me and the difficulty curve was crazys-steep. Also, I never ended up needing to use anything except the bottom branch -- maybe introduce some birds that need to be swatted? Great job!

100 leaves by neverix 2019-04-30T14:40:39Z

@neverix I think that happens to everyone... I was supposed to have a Day/Night cycle, but instead ended up with one day level and one night level. Lol.

Life's Choices by Tyhan1 2019-04-30T15:03:00Z

Neat! The gameplay was unusual and I enjoyed puzzling out how to 'construct' a life. I really liked the hand drawn character. On the negative side, his animation felt a little floaty and I had trouble figuring out where I was in the 3d space. I think some music to set the mood would have been nice, too. Great job!

Treasury Trouble by Jiink 2019-04-30T18:14:27Z

That was a fun little hack and slash game. I think adding coin flying out of the bags as you are being robbed would have been a fun particle effect.

And some way too know where the goblins are.

Overall, cute art style and fun game. Great job!

Life Exchange by TwoWolf 2019-04-30T14:45:19Z

Link doesn't work -- could you have it set on private or hidden?

I think this is you... as you can see only one game shows up on your page.

Merchants by ldjsq 2019-04-30T19:16:40Z

The art work is cute and the concept is great, but the ice made travel difficult and frustrating and even on easy difficulty I couldn't get to the city on any attempt (I am playing on a laptop). Great job!

Game in Society by MrWeebeez 2019-04-30T15:08:21Z

I think your link to your game is missing.

Juicefruit Orchard by reheated 2019-10-07T20:45:59Z

Oh my goodness. This is so great. I love the combination of clicker/farm sim/ and not-too-hard arcade game. I bookmarked it so I can come back and play it some more. The graphics are cute, the music is nice -- amazing job!

Terra Incognita : Dusk of Primitive Technology by SoKette 2019-10-07T23:53:48Z

Nice! A fun explorer/clicker game. I wish the colors of the items on the tiles had been a little bit brighter. I thoroughly enjoyed the 41 days it took me to craft the monument on my first try.

DECKER_ by adamk33n3r 2019-10-06T23:25:53Z

Are you going to publish a WebGL version?

The Choice of Life: Middle Ages by Xakkar 2019-10-09T21:45:36Z

Well, I have yet to survive my childhood, but I had a great time. I love the music and graphics and story. Very fun.

Assault on a quiet village by uchiro 2019-10-06T23:24:52Z

If I leave the cemetery before resurrecting the dead, I can't resurrect them from outside the cemetery or go back and resurrect them.

Ludum Lux by Joe Miller 2019-10-07T21:16:59Z

Clever and challenging puzzle game answer to the theme. Great job!

Ultra Quest by 100th_Coin 2019-10-07T00:03:20Z

The artwork and music are wonderful and the gameplay feels natural.

Logical by Cethin 2019-10-06T23:28:28Z

Your play through video is not loading properly for me.

Logical by Cethin 2019-10-06T23:51:00Z

I really love the clever and unusual gameplay loop, and I really appreciate a full playthrough video for those of us who can't download and play Windows games.

Osage by tvle83 2019-10-10T21:49:09Z

Lovely little game. If I could make a couple of minor suggestions -- it felt weird to me to be in the 'middle' of a platform instead of at the top. Also there were a couple of places where if you missed a jump there was significant backtracking. Overall -- charming and beautiful game.

Life with Words by Chaosinism 2019-10-07T00:52:59Z

What a clever use of the theme and such an unusual word game. Great job!

Bereshit by p-r 2019-10-10T21:38:45Z

I'm not sure I was playing it right -- but I sure had fun doing it. The 'juice' is great - the screen shake, the sound effects, the explosions are all very satisfying. And the tranquil guitar music offsets it nicely.

Not My Hoarder by Tommyflower 2019-10-08T23:13:03Z

Hah! This is the second hoarder game I've played in the last hour. Very cute art and game!

DesertTamer by svyatozar 2019-10-09T10:53:29Z

Nice! I would have loved to see little animated people walking around as the population expanded. Great job!

Paws of Gold by Swen 2019-10-08T19:22:07Z

The cat is adorable and it's a nice clicker game. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the ratio of sellers to buyers seems a bit off. Great job -- the game has a nice feel.

Garden Knight by CrispyPear 2019-10-09T21:52:16Z

Neat game. I was a little confused at first about what I should be doing, but I persevered.

Space Crash by Xacur 2019-10-07T00:01:00Z

Great job! The artwork and music are nicely cohesive.

Nothing but naked by LoneWolfDev 2019-10-07T23:39:39Z

Wow. This game is so polished and fun. Just hard enough to be a challenge but still keeps you trying over and over. Amazing job!

The Persistent Thief by Darylsteak 2019-10-06T15:21:19Z

Woo hoo! Congrats! Can't wait to play it.

The Persistent Thief by Darylsteak 2019-10-06T23:46:01Z

The controls were super hard to get used to but the concept and art are awesome.

Real-time Gardener by sebastianscaini 2019-10-08T22:35:13Z

The art is absolutely adorable, but the time to grow the seed is too long and the whiny noise the seed makes was distracting -- I think a chill music would have been nice, and something to do to speed it up like an idle clicker game.

Nothingness by PhillSerrazina 2019-10-07T15:25:48Z

Lovely and engaging world-building game with a chill vibe and soundtrack. Great job!

Hero Without A Stick by Jonathan Lorenz 2019-10-07T20:32:34Z

Is there a way to attach with the keyboard? I could move around but I couldn't figure out how to attack...

Hero Without A Stick by Jonathan Lorenz 2019-10-07T20:47:18Z

@jonathan-lorenz I'm on my laptop atm, but I'll give it another play when I get on my PC and I can play with my controller.

The Void by Norris Eldridge 2019-10-07T00:45:45Z

The graphics and mood are great and occasionally I couldn't tell why I wasn't hitting the skeleton. A knockback or particle effect would have helped.

Hoarder's Paradise by Scott Steffes 2019-10-08T23:05:35Z

Ok. That was entirely too enjoyable... and maybe too relatable? I feel slightly judged. Great game. :-)

Mariposa by Ratrat44 2019-10-08T22:44:25Z

Mood, music, art, and gameplay all combine to be a special little game. Great job!

SHOCK by Ossi 2019-10-07T00:21:08Z

Hey! I won! Fun little game. The controls felts a little odd at times.

Gobble Ghost! by Zymphe 2019-10-07T20:37:27Z

The music, sound effects, and atmospheric lighting are charming. I'm not sure it went with the theme, but it definitely went with the season!

Socks by OddSocks 2019-10-09T10:42:48Z

Idle clicker + nice warm socks -- what's not to love! For some reason Sfx did not work on my Mac.

In the beginning by SnufkinsHat 2019-10-07T00:22:23Z

Thanks, all! I think I got a little caught up in making the graphics and I should have cut myself short and finished all the levels. I had some cool ideas for the next couple of 'days'.

In the beginning by SnufkinsHat 2019-10-07T00:49:26Z

@sam-awk The jump mechanics were supposed to start a little floaty (because you are floating in the void) and get tighter as the world was developed... unfortunately those levels ended up on the cutting room floor so all you got was the floaty levels.

In the beginning by SnufkinsHat 2019-10-07T12:47:00Z

@darylsteak and @corrade The rubber-band thing is a big whoops. I must have moved one of the checkpoints when I was cutting the level right before the deadline to get the game submitted. (the third level was originally longer with each level getting progressively longer and more difficult). I'll quickly fix that when I get back from carpool.

I was really worried about the readability of the more decorative font. If I had more time I would have swapped it out for something else or put a background behind it.

Also, @corrade the character was supposed to progress in changes more slowly. .The world was supposed to get crisper and more defined and the character change as the world got built up. Right before submission I pulled some of the later character changes into earlier levels to showcase what was supposed to happen.

As usual, I got way too ambitious and took on more than I could accomplish. :-) I need to get better at scoping.

In the beginning by SnufkinsHat 2019-10-07T12:54:12Z

@anonymous I think, like most people who do these things, I am painfully aware of the shortcomings of my game. I'm frustrated with my lack of time management and with all of the things that ended up on the cutting room floor or didn't make it into the game that would have made this an actual, fully fledged game instead of a proof of concept or demo. I find the best comments are those that use the shit sandwich technique -- find something that you like about the game and find a constructive criticism that helps the person improve the next game they make.

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-07T00:14:01Z

The graphics, gameplay, and concept are great. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-06T23:27:45Z

For some reason your game wouldn't load for me. Maybe it was a Safari issue?

Soul Search by BoltactionToaster 2019-10-08T23:00:23Z

Snappy platformers are definitely challenging with default Unity physics. Adding code that adds to the downward deceleration helps -- there are a couple of good videos about it on YouTube. Corgi Engine (a paid Unity asset) has nice non-Unity-physics based tight movement. The music and atmosphere are great. Good job!

Down in a Hole by Zergei 2019-10-07T23:08:37Z

Nice job! I liked the skeleton animations but I had a little bit of a hard time getting the hang of the controls.

The Unknown Nude by romes 2019-10-07T00:40:06Z

Great job! You've come pretty far from having just learned Unity last weekend!

7 Days by AppoxGames 2019-10-07T15:41:57Z

The art and innovative gameplay and music all work so well together to support the theme. I would have liked a tiny bit more control over where the water goes and a little bit more warning that branches are unwell and about to die. Really lovely game -- thoroughly enjoyed it.

Darkness is the nothing by Nadya Khromenkova 2019-10-08T22:37:20Z

The artwork and music work together well to create a very atmospheric game. Good job!

The Thing by Thiago Nascimento 2019-10-07T15:21:50Z

Really clever idea! Well done.

Beat Builder by kyle3wynn 2019-10-07T00:24:33Z

Ok. That was really short but really fun. And as someone who struggles with the music stuff, I felt like I actually learned something. And the fact that you built it in 4 hours is amazing.

Uckty Woo! by RancidBacon 2019-10-09T10:38:11Z

Really neat idea but unfortunately the best winning strategy is spamming a single square instead of picking out the most expensive option each time. Some 'juice' such as music, visual effects, or buttons sounds would have been awesome. You could have had bigger effects or a cooler sound if the person clicked on the biggest spending option on the board.

NumberLand by Tiulkin Boris 2019-10-07T23:27:52Z

Mолодец! For non-Russian-speakers, there is a bit of a cartoon prologue and then the game transitions into a turn-based-strategy game of number vs number. The illustrations remind me of Russian maths textbooks from the 80's. Charming and delightful.
