Thank you, @rombus! Yeah, sfx are planned to a post-jam version. =)
Good fun game :D
Simple but effective game! I think it has a lot of potential for a post-jam version!
Fun card playing game :) I think sfx would help rhythm a bit, but still enjoyable as is.
Cute game. The "story" made me chuckle. Too bad there's no audio. It does a lot to an overall feeling of the game.
@kuro, thank you! =) Glad to see some people enjoy my post-midnight writing.
As for sound, well, I really wanted to add some, but spent all the available time polishing. =( UI is essential for this kind of games.
@yngvarr
> UI is essential for this kind of games.
true that
Simple and addicting card game with good visuals. Hope it will have audio and more cards in the post-jam version
definetely a good idea to make a card game for the jam. Fun but found it too easy tho xD
@didigameboy, honestly, I would not recommend doing it. So much time spent on secondary stuff, I had to program AI for Bob at 3 a. m. which is anything but normal for me. Thank you for playing, glad you found it fun! =)
This game was fun to play an easy to understand! I really loved the theme of sharks and I enjoyed it a bunch. Only issue I had is it may be difficult to see stats of certain cards if they are in the back of your hand.
I like the setting, but the card game itself has some flaws. At first it was difficult to understand, what was going on. I did learn, but i found myself just putting the strongest creatures i had to any empty slot, which i think is a smart move but it makes the game less fun. Not enough action cards, i mostly had only multiples of the same creature in my deck, so there wasn't much choice
I'm not sure I fully understand all the rules, but I was able to beat Bob anyways. :D Really fun! Good job!
Interesting card game, but I had my problems to grasp the rules just by playing the game itself. Some kind of ingame tutorial or clearer visuals of what is happening with the cards and why would've been nice. Other than that, the art is quite nice and the gameplay is fluid enough. Too bad sound effects and music are absent.
Cool game ! Good job !
@wie, thank you for feedback! Yeah, we had great plans of adding two more kinds of action cards but ran out of time. X_X And yeah, mechanics came out kinda boring, I'll try to tune it in a post-jam version. =)
@nyandev, nice to read it, thank you! As for stats, well, that's why a preview appears when the pointer is over the card. Or am I missing something?
@duke, thank you! Well, there always are directions to grow. =) I did think of some sort of card animation to display cards' movement, but didn't manage to add them due to technical reasons and time limits.
@yngvarr if the card it leftmost in your hand, you can't see how much health it has. :)
@nyandev, hmm, still cannot reproduce. If you tell me your browser version and OS, maybe I could try to hunt this bug out. Thank you.
Great job, all the needed mechanics were there, and I LOVE the artwork done for this! It's a solid experience (just lacking audio - which you already mentioned ran out of time on, and I respect you spent that time on the UI instead - great choice, as it shows!)
This makes for a pretty cool card game. I'd say it's a very solid foundation for more content to be added.
There isn't much to criticize about this one, it plays well.
I think we both likely ran into the same time trap regarding visual feedback for actions taken. In Contract Cleric, I didn't get particle effects done in time to signal a successful heal. In ShellShark, the floating text for when units are hit is nice, but doesn't draw much attention to the sources and recipients of damage. If you're paying attention to what the creature cards do, this isn't too big a deal. Though it'd be nice to see the crab hit a target on his left or right diagonal, or have a visual representation of the narwhal's piercing effect. I certainly fell into that trap harder than you did, haha.
In such a short development cycle that's probably outside the scope of what there was time to implement. If you continue with this project, which I hope you do, maybe calculating the damage values and showing some preview arrows before ending the turn would be a worthy addition. Given the underwater motif, I could see this being a pretty neat campaign driven card game.
The card art was great. The Bob art was even better! I'm glad I looked up at him to see that shirt and tie. It gave me a laugh.
Good job!
Nice one. I'm a sucker for card games. Loved the sea-theme and the art is superb.
I think I'm still not quite sure how I beat the shark (I am not a TCG player), but the graphics were fun and the gameplay was smooth. I think with an intro and some sound effects this would be super-fun for TCG players. It might be an especially nice way to introduce younger players to the genre.
@yngvarr its a bug for the safari browser, it works fine in google chrome
Pretty cool game! Really enjoyed, I just missed the sfx, but i saw you talking gonna do later, btw idk how this happened > idk.png
I love the art for this! There's something very entertaining about that shark glaring at me from the other side of the table haha. Cool game, great idea! Nice work :)
Really well designed card game. I would definitely pick up a physical copy of this to play! I have to agree with you that I don't see a connection to the theme - but you still did a fantastic job designing a legitimately fun game. Played three rounds of it before I won, or at least, I'm saying I won. I knocked him below zero then he knocked me below zero, haha.
All the art is well done and cute! I really enjoy how you fit it into the browser and made it adjustable based on the size. Very cool work.
@nyandev, thank you very much! I'll check it, the problem must be in some vendor prefix in CSS.
@cnatalo, whoa! 0_o resizing a window must bring them back. Anyway, thank you for playing!
@doctormozart, thank you for feedback, glad to read you enjoyed it. 🙂 You must have caught the bug with both winning and losing screens being visible. XD Happy you mentioned resizing, I spent a whole day doing just that (ranting about the theme doesn't count).
@yngvarr Hehe. Theme ranting is the main part of Ludum Dare, isn't it? ;)
Yeah, I did catch the win / lose glitch screen. Sorry - I should have mentioned it! ^^;
@doctormozart, no worries, I already know about it. :D will fix it eventually. =)
Great game, I really liked the graphics (on the cards). And the gameplay flow was good. I've read that you are planning to implement sounds in post-jam version, it is right. However, if you spend next time ~ 1 hour and import at least 1 or 2 sound effects into the jam version, it would be much better and the game would be instantly more enjoyable. Of course the game was too easy, but honestly I cant imagine balancing this during the jam =D So overall, I enjoyed this game very much and if you manage to make post-jam version, please let me know :)
To the theme: In my opinion, there is an option for optiong-out for the theme. But Im not sure. Nevertheless, it is always wise to let us know that it doesnt have to be connected to the theme :)
@maoap, thank you for feedback! Well, I consider it cheating to add sfx to the jam version even remaining opted out of audio category. But I also think that post-jam version might be released before the end of Play+Rate. =) Anyway, I will tag you, thanks for the interest.
As for the theme category, I would love the option to opt-out of it. Moreover, the rules support this idea:

So it remains mysterious for me why there is no button on a submission page to actually opt-out from the category.
Shrimps vs Prawns! Not a fan of card games but this one I enjoyed. Тема с креветками рили уморительна. Классно вышло, так держать.
I'm not a big fan of card games but this one deserve you test it. Congrats for your entry !
shellshark.jpg Loved it! At first I wasn't entirely clear how the battle mechanics work, but it became clear very soon. Add some effects and sound to it, you could easily put this on a mobile app store.
Nice game to spend some time with. I like the graphics!
What a cool nice little card game. I really enjoyed playing it. And I loved Bob, he is just such a good loser :)
Well Done great job.
Great to see a card game. I wish you had more time to add in more cards, that would have been even neater.
Nitpicks: * be consistent with card descriptions - is *bites* and *kicks* actually diffent or is it just for flavour? You could possibly visually seperate abilities from flavour text. * be a bit more descriptive (or least describe the keywords so they take up cardspace) - It took me quite a while to realise what the narwhal card does (though the description made me chuckle)
BTW. I hated the theme as well. Out of the 6 or 7 times I've attended (not necessarily finished) LD, this one I actually hated. That being said, the game that came out of it is actually probably my best design. Though I haven't really stuck with the theme either, so there's that
@secretpocketcat, thank you for feedback! There really are some more card mechanics and arts in the game, we just didn't manage to wire them before the time ran out, so the world will eventually see the game in it's greatness. And yeah, card games turned out to be tricky to describe, so I might revisit all the text info, thank you for tips. =)
As for the theme, I hated the previous one the most. But when "life as a currency" were announced I went "oh, come on, why is it so similar to the prevous one?" For real, it was the _second_ time my previous entry fits the current theme _better_ then the theme it was designed with.
I beat a shark! Enjoyed the mechanics once I grasped them (or I just had a very lucky run). I just learned of the narwhal card, so I gotta play it again and hope I spot it :)

Yay, @philstrahl! Thank you for playing the game twice! =) I hope you enjoyed this little Easter egg. :D
Despite losing, I did! :)
