I really enjoy the self-referential humor. Good job!
The graphics are lovely! A great mix between greys and colours.
I love the art, but I don't get what you need to do. Is there some kind of goal?
If there is maybe try to explain how you get there.
nice game graphics 10/10 but there are some glitches like u can totally get out of bounds in the beginning of the game overall great game :),we also made a game do check it out here we would love to hear your opinion about our game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/life-a-coin thx
The gameplay wasn't very challenging, but I enjoyed the story and the concept of the jellybeans, very good effort for your first jam!
Very nice work, the art and ambient work excelently, and the small narrative/control details were great!
again, excelent work!
Great game! Best i've played so far
Lovely game with lovely colors! And I loved the funny conversations and LD inside jokes :D. I'd appreciate better, or any audio. And the gameplay gets a bit tedious after a while. But loved it anyways!
Some wonky collissions and confusion about progression aside, I think the game succeeded in setting a gloomy and unsettling atmosphere pretty well - the art and loneliness paired with the music of the first area is really good for that. I also really liked the animation of death spawning his pen. Great first try, I'd say!
I really like the art style and the movement felt nice. The Press E interactions were sometimes hard to invoke. After a while, I just wan't sure why I was wandering around or what I was supposed to be doing, I think a little guidance on what I was looking for next would have helped me. I'm amazed how big a world you build out in a weekend and some of the dialog was great (like the line about the scythe being ornamental).
I love the self aware humor and given the time restraint I feel like you've done an excellent job. I'm just a little bit disappointed with the ending. Also, if Death's ashes at the end turned into a "THE END", it would've been nice. There's no explicit indication that I've reached the end of the game.
Pretty cool :D I'm not sure, if there was anything supposed to happen, after that particle effect at the end, but oh well XD Just a few minor bugs: Lack of collission on a few tiles/deco The Jellybean counter was probably supposed to reset between scenes?
That was fun. A bit confusing at the beginning as i could walk through the wall but the game quickly good me hooked. The signing of the contract got me stuck a bit just to realize it wasn't properly triggering. Nice Work!
Thanks for all the feedback so far. I completely missed that first wall not having a collider! After uploading I also found that it’s missing most of the cut scenes between levels I made too. Only half the first one, and the second one survived! No idea what happened there?!
@zugai89 Yeah. I was struggling with the end. Completely ran out of time. Really not happy with the particle effect either. The ending just didn’t pan out right. And yeah. Jellybeans were a static variable, and I forgot to do a reset for each scene. Helps with getting through the game quickly though ;)

Really nice entry! Love all the small talks and jokes. All the little details (like fish in the pond?) and especially the audio that made me wondering all the time what will happen next and it really helped the atmosphere a lot! Great job!! ;)
Good job mate, really well done! The only thing that bothered me a bit is the fact that you have to use the mouse for the dialogue, where everything else is done with the keyboard. But that really a detail. Well done!
@giezi That’s a good point. I’ll add it to my todo list 👍🏻
The graphisms and the gameplay are well done, the music too. It's sad that the story could not be developped further, it was a little bit boring at the end and too repetitive. Happilly, the jelly bean counter does not reset so it helped a lot !
@dusterherz. Thanks for the feedback. I had a lot planned for the story, but I just ran out of time in the end. I will definitely finish it at some point. It’s also missing most of the cut scenes. And quite a few of the random story elements. They mysteriously vanished after the last build I made and didn’t have time to fix before upload! However, I am apparently allowed to fix bugs. So that’s my job this afternoon 😄
Looks good, fun dialogue and pretty graphics. Personally would love less walking and more of the dialogue stuff, since it got a little repetitive towards the end. Great entry!
The maze part felt unnecessarily long, and it's especially punishing to slow down movement speed while being asked to collect even more jellybeans. What are the jellybeans for, anyway ... I wish you had time to implement more of the story. I had trouble ever sympathizing with the protagonist in the first place. Obviously he's not going to get anywhere by collecting jellybeans or failing to read contracts with someone who looks like the Grim Reaper. So even though I was playing him, it was more to rate the game than because I had any emotional investment. D: If you expand this, definitely add in reasons why Luna might be worth so many years to him, so we end up cheering him instead of thinking that even if he does find Luna, she ought to reject him because he spent all this time pursuing an idea of a woman instead of an actual one. Cheers!
I love the idea and story of the game! I played through the whole thing. The only problem I had was that it takes forever to walk when you turn old, and I get that it's part of the game/story, but it was just obnoxiously slow at the end. I love the pieces of 4th wall breaking commentary sprinkled into the game, and the other dialogue were really good as well.
Nice art, but really I'm just here for the Jellybeans
@dorblin7z7 - that’s the spirit. It’s a majorly important aspect of the game 😁
One of the best games I've played on LD44 so far :) The graphic is really cute. I love your interpretation of the theme!!! :) Great work
I understand something there. I paid your game with my own time. Or you are a genius, or your are a crook. Anyway, gj with your game !
Good job! Great art style and funny game!
I love this game. I love that you go around collecting Jellybeans and the funny comments that come up as you walk around. For 3 days work I think this is brilliant and what potential you must have.
Graphics and audio were very nice... I encourage you to continue development to get all the features you wanted in there. I think this is a good start to a nice game.
@schizoid2k Thank you. Yes, I will definitely be continuing with a post LD version.
Nice graphics and story! I wish the ending was a bit more final, other than that great entry. Maybe don't slow the player down so much as they get old, but that did add to the feeling of "loss" with each contract.
It's so full of little details! I really liked how the age slowed down your movements, how you couldn't go down the rope because you're too old, how at the end of the game Earth paintings are everywhere (lmao) or how the character entertains you saying something sometimes.
I felt a bit the 100 jellybeans dungeon, I always need to explore every single corner of the map, so I spent around 10 minutes wandering and searching for something while I was slowed down... at least the next one was more understanding about "my" situation :)
Anyway congrats for your entry, I haven't seen many of them with a good full story ^^
Good entry, though I feel like some parts were a bit painful, collecting jellybeans was a bit comber-sum when there was too many of them, and that slow walk at the end, I get why you did it, but it felt too long in my opinion. Love the music though, and the different "dialogues". Great overall, but the kitchen is lacking a garbage can ;)
@tay Thanks for the feedback :) The garbage bag was there at the start of the game. I didn’t think it would make sense to still be there at the end... but I recon if there was a bloodstain where it used to be, that might make more sense? Like a constant reminder for him. The dungeon level needs a lot of work done to it!
Nice one dude - can't believe you did all that yourself in such a short amount of time! Great job, those little tunes are so catchy too!
great job really nice art and nice story. good job for a first try, it feels more like a more complete game(even tho its short) then a game jam.
really nice pixel art and animations, I liked the poetic and funny mood in the game. Nice job!
Pretty good pixel art graphics. I love the cynical humour of the Death, and I really adored the allusion to the trash bag at the end of the game. A little bit tiring after a while, especially when you have to go through the labyrinth or when you play the old man. But apart from that, it was really funny to play, great job ;)
@oropouche - Thanks! I tried to make it as funny as I could. There is a lot of dialogue missing, I’m not sure what happened exactly. But there is more to the story side of things. Will try to fix them post LD.
@quasar47 Thanks for the feedback. I’ve had a lot of comments about the labyrinth level, and I agree it’s tedious! Buuuuut... I think I’ll leave it in as death is sort of messing with the character. There is a ton of missing dialogue on that level too, which might have made it less gruelling!
Intriguing concept. It was getting a bit painfully slow at the end, but maybe that was the point. The game did set the mood really well. I feel like more of the text could have subtly alluded to Luna before the end, but I imagine it's tricky not saying too much. Nice job on this entry!
The story is pretty good, and I liked both the music and graphics. I would have liked some more interesting gameplay. Overall a good LD game. Well done.
Cool story, simple but very charming graphics and weird (in a good way!) music. The gameplay gets a bit boring, but the overall mood kept me going. Maybe try adding a pixel perfect camera, I could see the differences in pixel size at times, but that's nitpicking. Very nice job!
This is a really interesting game that evoked mixed feelings. I'm going to assume the artistic vision was to deliberately somewhat antagonize the player -- I know it's not an accident because the game is pretty up-front about it, with the character calling it a "trudge" and the stranger taunting me about my movement speed.
It was really well done, because I thought the game was over at the first chunk and the title referred to something like "I just traded my life and I only had about ten years of it left" and I would have said that it was a nicely-done moody mysterious piece, and complimented you on the very nice graphics and sound, and said that the game length was just about right for the content.
But then the game stretched on, and DELIBERATELY overstayed its welcome. It straight up rubbed my face in it! Very interesting. I had a variety of reactions popping up... I certainly got impatient, and was already pushing the shift key to check for a sprint feature even before I got to the part where I was slowed down and had to fetchquest 100 in a maze. The music really saved me here, I don't think I could have gone on without it. I even got straight-up slightly-angry and shouted two rooms away to my definitely-not-interested wife "WIFE THIS GAME IS OVERSTAYING ITS WELCOME AND TAUNTING ME ABOUT IT!"
But I was also strangely stuck. I couldn't bring myself to just quit, as the story's attitude had been on point and I wanted to see what came next.
By the end of the game when it was absolute torture to move, and horrifying to think about mis-remembering which way to go, I was walking through the "park" using diagonal inputs just to make the guy move faster on the screen even though he didn't get to the destination any quicker, and I was like "damn this game did something weird to me."
I think it was all very deliberate, and you got me there like the "boiled frog," one tiny increment of discomfort at a time, when if I'd known where we'd end up I'd have opted out at the start.
So very well done - this is a unique entry, I've played a ton of LD games in my time and there's lots of different crazy approaches people take, but is was a memorable one.
@pkenney Thanks for the awesome, and hilarious, review. Lightened my day up for sure. Interesting you mentioned about pressing the shift key, I think I’ll make it so when you press it he says a few different things, like ‘slow and steady wins the race’ etc... 😁 But yeah, you were spot on with the game. Testing those last levels was a traumatising experience!
