Fun game interesting take on the jump mechanic
I really loved the graphics! It was a little hard to read the text in certain places, but overall it's a very pretty entry.
Nice! I specially like the mood you achieved with this kind of graphics.
I like the story telling aspect with the text at the top of the screen. Combined with the art style it had an interesting atmosphere. Good job!
Thanks, all! I think I got a little caught up in making the graphics and I should have cut myself short and finished all the levels. I had some cool ideas for the next couple of 'days'.
the artstyle may not be my thing, but I enjoyed it nonetheless
I like it! The jump mechanics are a little rough though.
@sam-awk The jump mechanics were supposed to start a little floaty (because you are floating in the void) and get tighter as the world was developed... unfortunately those levels ended up on the cutting room floor so all you got was the floaty levels.
Now that was immersive! Great job on the graphics and the sound! It felt like a 2d side scroller version of Journey! GG!
I really liked the story telling and art style. It really just helped the mood come together.
Great visuals! Would love to see the full thing with all 7 days!
To be honest, this is terrible experience for my eyes. Font and font color selection of some text - it's not "a little hard to read", it's very hard to read. The concept is fine, but game is too short. You need to balance between your game vision and "digestibility" of the game for honest players (not ones, who says "ALL ARE GREAT!" because they want get 5 from you). Cheers.
I appreciate the ambitious theme and concept. It's unfortunate that you weren't able to finish to the degree that you had planned.
When translated to gameplay, I think the player was allowed to progress way too quickly. The atmosphere and plot were lost as a result.
I think it was a good choice to leave the player to discover how to jump. That being said, the movement was clunky overall due to the weird gravity and strange collision (or whatever's responsible for phasing through platforms).
The visual style reminds me of a collage. It's certainly interesting and artsy, although noisy and tough to read.
Falling off the platform just before the 'let there be sky' text results in a rubberband-like effect.
The game was certainly interesting, especially the use of the theme. Shame the game wasn't completed though. I liked the art, but it was quite hard to tell apart at times.
Also, rubberband effect Corrade mentioned above.
Other than those two, it would be nice to see all 7 days done and the levels (levels?) more fleshed out. GJ!
@darylsteak and @corrade The rubber-band thing is a big whoops. I must have moved one of the checkpoints when I was cutting the level right before the deadline to get the game submitted. (the third level was originally longer with each level getting progressively longer and more difficult). I'll quickly fix that when I get back from carpool.
I was really worried about the readability of the more decorative font. If I had more time I would have swapped it out for something else or put a background behind it.
Also, @corrade the character was supposed to progress in changes more slowly. .The world was supposed to get crisper and more defined and the character change as the world got built up. Right before submission I pulled some of the later character changes into earlier levels to showcase what was supposed to happen.
As usual, I got way too ambitious and took on more than I could accomplish. :-) I need to get better at scoping.
@anonymous I think, like most people who do these things, I am painfully aware of the shortcomings of my game. I'm frustrated with my lack of time management and with all of the things that ended up on the cutting room floor or didn't make it into the game that would have made this an actual, fully fledged game instead of a proof of concept or demo. I find the best comments are those that use the shit sandwich technique -- find something that you like about the game and find a constructive criticism that helps the person improve the next game they make.
I like the newspaper artstyle!
Well, that was interesting! Sad it was short because of time constraints, would've loved to see more! Also liked the paper-like art style! :)
Ah, i used the 7 day creaton theme on my game as well! But yours clearly states what each day does while mine visually represents it. Goodjob!
pretty good, love the art style though I found a bug where you on the water day and and fall because you cant jump yet and fall below the screen and couldnt play, I had to refresh the page. really short but sweet
Shame you didn't manage to make it to seven days in the time limit. Judging based solely on what we got I would say you have a solid foundation of platformed controls but I really wish there was more in the first levels.
I wish there was more! What you shared with us was beautiful.
Not bad, grateful for sound ;). I would suggest that you try and bring the contrast out more between the platforms and background, the white ones are hard to see.
Nice atmosphere! I liked the textures and the creation story being told along the way. Would have love a bit more interaction, but nice entry!
The art was really nice! I liked how the story was delivered to the player. I now want to see the other days. I would have liked to have a little challenge too.
Beautiful artwork. You have talent.
I love how the chosen way of narration combined with visual design. This game definitely has a great potential. I strongly wish to see the game finished one day. :3
I enjoyed this. It was a short experience, but really good. The art was interesting and fitted perfectly with the style. The challenge was lacking, and not collecting items didn't seem to change anything. But I would love to see the other days and extra challenge added. Great LD entry.
I really like this art-photo style and creation story. The hat has a big future! Too bad it was so short.
I really appreciate all the work that went into the art. The mixed-media style is very interesting and gave the game a unique feel! Would love to see this finished!
There wasn't much left to play, but what you were trying to do with the appearance of the game is very individual. Like a collage! Too bad it's so raw. Good attempt!
Cool newspaper art style! I like it when drawn in the real world, photographed/scan and put into play.
On the first level, the perfect combination of background color and text color. But on the second level, blue text on a blue background, it's a bit not convenient.
On the third level, the character moves unnaturally slowly. It feels like he's underwater. Maybe it's the original idea, but then not very clear what player underwater. Perhaps you need to make the background slowly.
Would be happy to see the remaining levels. Thanks for playing.
Controls felt stiff, but I like the artwork, the music in the last level was great.
As other have noted, the controls may have been a bit better, Graphics were the most interesting part, and the ride was nice.
Guess the graphics and music took a lot of your time. If you ever feel like continuing this game I would love to see it fully implemented, it seems really interesting.
