LD44 — Your life is currency

PunCha-Ching Bag by Ryan Brenner 2019-04-30T16:07:13Z

Fun game! I like the theme very much. The graphics felt good and natural, the music was upbeaty and fitting too. The only problem I had was that the hitbox seemed to feel a little off but that was just first glance. Overall nice game!

Cats Without Cars by B33Thr33 2019-04-30T16:33:49Z

Okay this immediately grabbed my attention. Let's see how this goes.

I beat the game. Your game was fantastic! The art style was really simple and to the point. It could have used a bit of lighting or especially fog, but I'm not complaining. The music was okay too and I liked the cat meow. It also fit the theme pretty well. I liked how you gain other cats' lives and combine it with your own and use it as a currency.

Now onto the game. Personally the camera was fine, I think that's part of the gaming aspect, but the acceleration was a bit too much. I died a couple of times because I went out of bounds due to not being able to stop myself in time. The upgrades were good, and the game ended before I could experience all of them, but some of them are overpowered - like the bullet speed one is clearly superior to the bullet size one. Also I felt that my success depended on luck rather than skill. The controls can be a little erratic and hard to point. This is also why the bullet speed upgrade rules over them all.

With a bit of tweaking and balancing and this could make a very good online game! This may sound strange but I had a very io feel to it where the stronger ones become even stronger.

It was very fun!

Treasury Trouble by Jiink 2019-04-30T17:17:50Z

It seems that a lof of people used money and stealing as a theme to encourage using it as a currency. I keep wondering why I didn'think of that. The game was fun too, I got to around round 5 or so. Nice work!

How did I beat this game??...

LD46 — Keep it alive

Control Room by jsec 2020-04-20T12:52:29Z

I got to cycle 18 and lost for a bug or something. I still don't know what the solid fuel tank does.

The Blind Hummingbird by Webox 2020-04-20T13:46:06Z

Oh wow your style is good yourself. I love the transitions and the polish. You made the music yourself too ? Much thought put into it.

I wanted to give the game a good try but unfortunately the bird kept flying off the screen. If you fix the bug I'll be sure to come back to try it again.

I might try this style next time.

The Blind Hummingbird by Webox 2020-04-20T14:00:08Z

Chrome, Windows. I remember you're Mac, maybe OS is the problem?

The Blind Hummingbird by Webox 2020-04-22T01:33:01Z

Yes it works now you fixed it. I beat the game! I somehow had a harder time with the stage before the last one, even though the last one was the one with the twist. Nice game overall

Embers by Anuke 2020-04-20T14:36:00Z

Holy smokes I LOVE the art. Just a sec.

This is the game I wish I made. I'm archiving this page to play more later.

Good job. I love it.

(Loading time can't be helped but WASD needs some work though. It didn't work on my first try.)

Self-Service Voxel Mage by AlexVoxel 2020-04-20T12:57:30Z

Lol I actually really liked the environment. It took me too long to figure out my shriking player was being an ammo slider. I may want to play games in this style some day. Good job. (Music 5/5)

Life of the Party by OrdiNeu 2020-04-24T14:09:06Z

I really liked it. Great theme execution, has me captivated and focused, and the music is an earworm. Even the artstyle is clear and does what it's needed. I guess it's just a tad difficult for me since I'vn't been able to beat it but I'll try a couple more times.

Never mind I beat it lol. Oh, and I'm fine with the notification below, I just wish the text was a bit faster

Doctor Lit by Animaster 2020-04-21T03:15:07Z

Hey I really loved the visuals on this one, drew me in.

There are so many combinations! No way to know what does what though, "Antibiotic" did nothing. Healing UI could use a little help, it's a little tedius having to scroll through the whole list. Maybe filter just the ones I have?

At first I didn't know I should kill the monsters to get the necessary gem item to craft. I did beat one monster and it dropped an item used for crafting. Nearly killed me though.

I feel that there is a good potential here. I really do love the consistent natural artstyle and tweening.

Zero by omercanbalandi 2020-04-20T03:54:59Z

I liked it. Beat the whole game.

Rolly and the Flower by Rolly 2020-04-20T14:18:25Z

THe art style immediately caught my eye, let's see

Is the flower.. your voice?...

Yay I beat lv6!

Love the dying flavor texts

You're not gonna like this but I beat lv8 via bug. It's the only way to get past...

I'm at lv10. Wait so it's not a but? It's a game mechanic? That's a little weird

I beat the game. Okay honestly this was really good. The physics was flawless, level design were really clever for each step. The game didn't pause upon my death and that made for some interesting bugs which I'm not sure if you intended it. Congrats on making a full working fun game.

Keep the campfire alive by 1257th or nothing 2020-04-24T11:36:18Z

I like the environment sounds and the art style wasn't bad either. I also like the transition to day, that could've been a lot of work for only a couple of seconds.

Crimp by TwoWolf 2020-04-20T12:37:05Z

@rjerez192 Thank you for playing! Yes that specific mechanic is cryptic and expecting an overhaul during the Jam session. Even I still have a hard time with it. Thank you it means so much for me for my game be reminded of stardew valley.

Crimp by TwoWolf 2020-04-20T13:31:38Z

@Webox I'm sorry, I probably should have kept the tutorial in the description. In the topright corner there's a menu with a sickle in it. Press J to use it to cut down herbs and use it in the cauldroun. It all starts there. I might upload a demo vid soon too.

Crimp by TwoWolf 2020-04-21T15:33:09Z

@animaster Someone beat my game! This is a first on Ludum Dare, thank you so much for making my day! (I'll look into the ui)

Crimp by TwoWolf 2020-04-25T00:23:49Z

Thank you all for playing allowing me to be rated. I'm satisfied this round.

@kiririn51 Yes, that really does seem to be the biggest issue. I may have been too ambitious or careless. Next time I'll come up with something that doesn't overwhelm with controls and mechanics.

Crimp by TwoWolf 2020-05-05T08:50:06Z

@disthron Hey-o, I came just in time. Gee you're right, I just didn't consider whether I could flush medicines. I might look into that before the end of the show. Other cauldron bugs should be a problem if there's no sfx. If there is, then it means your inven is full and you must drop with R. The R key is used to drop items and that should solve some of the problems.

Sorry the controls are figgly and buggy at times, I'm still not best friends with Unity it seems. Thank you for playing the game with constructive criticisms.

Crimp by TwoWolf 2020-05-05T11:12:46Z

@disthron Yup that was what I meant by figgly and unfortunately that should take awhile to fix.

Thank you, this really meas a lot to me.

Welcome to paternity by Brice Mahier 2020-04-20T13:55:20Z

My 500+ hours of Sims experience is finally paying off... by ignoring the annyoing toddler altogether. Good game.

Mycelium by BlobRoss 2020-04-21T16:16:37Z

The visuals are amazing! I saw the pic and I just had to play it. I couldn't ask for better in a tranditionally animated pixel game. The music is good also.

Keep Town Alive by peto184 2020-04-20T14:52:03Z

Looks like we had the exact same idea lol wait a sec let me play this

Okay same idea different execution. First of all I really like the responsiveness of the controls. First try lv3, second try lv18. At first I didn't know what the gauge but it's massively different when I learned how to press and release. You were right about the play time but the average level could be a bit higher. I could've gone further if I didn't thought I couldn't lose the game and lose focus. Overall I had fun.

Minor issue, sfx begins to drown out bgm after lv12. At lv17 I can only hear coughing. Perhaps you should separate your bgm channel from your sfx, otherwise there's too many coughing going around at once.

Fleurist by TheJonu 2020-04-24T09:29:58Z

It was an okay diddly. There's really no win threshold or objective and if I'm correct there's no incentive other than to make rose bouquets. Still I liked growing the little plants. Also maybe a tool UI would be nice, like a box in corner which shows which tool/flower you selected. Just a thought.

Tile Rider! by VernalBehemoth 2020-04-21T07:39:00Z

So I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem but the game runs at like 5fps. I won't rate but could you look into the problem?

Deluge by 0xSMT 2020-04-21T03:52:21Z

Am I playing as fire? It was a good first game. Droplet cavern way too easy though. You just stay on the first platform and avoid the occasional hard right throw (dunno why not left though).

Keep the flame alive (adventures of an arsonist) by Llewellyn and Michael 2020-04-24T09:20:22Z

I liked it. If ever you want to prevent Unity tilemap tearing, use none-compressed point-filtered textures with pixel perfect cameras.

Keep the flame alive (adventures of an arsonist) by Llewellyn and Michael 2020-04-24T09:37:58Z

It's a downloadable builtin Unity package which became official only very recently. You can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G_E_U79q8g Alternatively you can use Pixel Snap settings in a sprite shader.

Just from someone who sufferred the same difficulty, that's all

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Well, that sounds fun! by Jani Nykanen 2021-04-26T12:27:31Z

Okay so I kinda rage quit cuz I died at 97%,.. twice... but here's my view. I loved the game! The art was really cute, the physics did its job, and the game was addicting to say the least. I like how absolutely all animals had their own quirks and movements and there were lots of them. Did I say how much I like the art?

The only thing I wasn't too fond of was the music. Honestly the art feels like it belongs to Yoshi's Island and the music just did not fit that. And maybe it's just a tad too difficult? But other than that 10/10

Well, that sounds fun! by Jani Nykanen 2021-04-26T12:40:39Z

Ugh.... I 100 for that lol well that sounded fun. Very good game, well played

Hole Town by dob 2021-04-26T13:05:22Z

It's a nice prototype. I thought it wasn't possible to lose but fortunately I found out it wasn't like that. I think you can make a couple more levels just to get a feel that it's a puzzle.

The Pit by fullmontis 2021-04-26T14:04:21Z

Good game. I wonder if you can actually win.

Words Words Words by RandyTayler 2021-04-26T13:41:10Z

I really wanted to give a favorable review since it was an innovative try with interactive voice overs. But unfortunately it lags too much and/or the controls are too wobbly to get by. I really like the concept though. I feel like a game like this polished and fleshed out can result in something - something like Stanley Parable for example.

The Great Machine by zeoxo 2021-04-27T00:45:23Z

Hey man this is a good game. Went to 20 o2 upgrade. I died because of a slime though. A little more invincibility time would've been nice. Also some jumps were impossible. I don't know if that is by design, but jump upgrades would've been a nice addition too. But overall I really had fun trying to upgrade and balance my hearts.

ps I liked the elevator music

The Great Machine by zeoxo 2021-05-09T08:38:45Z

Y'know, this and a couple of ant games are the ones I remember the most fondly.

Abyss. by Darylsteak 2021-04-27T04:30:07Z

Hey man I beat this game an hour ago but I'm writing now, anyway right off the bat 5/5 for theme, innovation and mood.

I was looking forward to play this. I won't spoil too much for the others but it took me a while to figure out the "boss fight." Honestly I think I was lucky in finding out how to damage it. (The jam and "danger near" is game design not a bug isn't it? You have to beat the "boss fight" first)

Gameplay wise-it was fun and I know the theme is a slow adventure, but I feel like pacing could've been just tad little bit faster. Also I still don't know what the search keypad does.

But overall very creative game. Like I said I was really looking forward to give this a try since it was so different.

ChronorhC by NikorasuChan 2021-04-26T15:05:01Z

I like the concept really came in to enjoy it but the physics and the hitbox is too wobbly.at the moment. It's not so much the past gray self is not following my movements, I think.. it's more that it interacts with me in a way it's not supposed to. Like I can't use him as a platform for example because he considers me as a wall and stops jumping mid way. Something on those lines.

Magic Frontier by Firebelley 2021-04-26T03:44:30Z

Wow that was genius. I honestly could've played at least 2-30 more rounds. I really admire people who can make real puzzle games like this. I almost never downlaod but the artwork and gif immediately drew me in too.

Magic Frontier by Firebelley 2021-04-26T11:33:34Z

Hey I actually played this twice and it was much easier the second run. I suppose that puts things into perspective. You can probably number your stages next time so we can provide commentary on each stage individually, on their mechanics and difficulty. Congrats on making a very fun game.

Bunny Bunny Dig Dig by ZakAmana 2021-04-27T16:44:18Z

I concede my loss. This game actually made me feel better now. I'm glad you made this game just so it puts things into perspective. Wonderful job. Art, music too, and I didn't think to make a gameplay like this.

If you want to know what I'm talking about check out my game. I did something similar and "failed." But your game inspired me and taught me what makes a game grabs people's hearts. And honestly I feel like this is something I can aspire to. So thank you for the encouragement. I'm afraid there's no such thing as a next compo anymore so I may not be able to live up to it in this jam, but I'll keep this moment in mind in my later jams and all subsequent works.

As for the gameplay itself, I reached the end of the mine 7 times and I filled out the skill tree. I think that explains everything. I did avoid the fights as much as I can and bombs were easy to evade but that's about it. I had fun and moreso I had an experience.

Thank you. This game means much to me. I won't stop trying.

deeper and deeper by krzymsky 2021-04-26T11:46:41Z

Hey man I had fun. A ladder would have been nice, jumping doesn't get me too high. But I liked thie mechanics and the idea. Fit the theme very well.

edit: Fixed.

Just Dig by TwoWolf 2021-04-26T13:26:41Z

@tombuston Thank you for playing! The worm reduces the rate in which the screen moves downwards. And the mole is 2 tiles wide by design. You're encouraged to use a bomb or upgrade to pick through dead ends.

Thank you for your comment. It's not much but I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

Just Dig by TwoWolf 2021-04-27T00:47:47Z

@pinklatticeuwu Thank you for playing. Yeah... this game wasn't meant to be played in fullscreen, I don't know if there is a build setting in Unity to suppress that but it is an oversight. Thank you for letting me know.

Just Dig by TwoWolf 2021-04-29T13:50:21Z

@sendnoose Hey I didn't think anyone would actually read profiles let alone mine. Yeah, I don't think I need an excuse to create a game anymore and the termination of Compo mode sort of discourages me to come back here. Maybe if I find a good collaborator someday I might come back, but right now I'd like to let this account to rest and move on to my newer adventures. Thank you, this means much to me more than you think.

It really does remind my of Yoshi's Island lol.

Just Dig by TwoWolf 2021-04-29T13:53:07Z

Thank you everyone else too for playing this game. I wish I could've given you a less buggier and more fast paced game experience but I suppose those are the limits of my abilities at the moment. (Not to mention I had the hardest time with game design this dare).

I had the most fun on this Ludum Dare and I hope you all become great game developers so please let me play your games in the real world one day. You can do it.

Selkö by Doot 2021-04-27T01:16:03Z

5/5 for mood. Was a nice pretty adventure.

birb by Glaas 2021-04-27T01:02:36Z

Ah it works now. Hey, nice game. I got to around 6 upgrades each (except random). Unfortunately the game can freeze because of UI, like hitting a dig point right after dig run ends for example. And flying can be a little too floaty. Other than that I enjoyed it. Nice artwork too!

ROOTS by TheGreenWorm 2021-06-02T05:52:00Z

You know I saw this during the dare but I never played this before.

Deep in the ocean by xicoizquierdo 2021-04-26T12:06:54Z

So believe or not but I reached 300m. I was kind of disappointed when the waters turned light blue again lol. I suppose it's texture scrolling. Anyway the changing water color was a nice incentive to keep going on. I wanted to know what came next. Changing animals mid levels would've been nice, little fish and turtles on the surface, then bigger fish then octopus and so on. Also too many turtles. But no joke I had fun.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Spacemine Defense by Jimbly 2022-10-12T06:49:40Z

Was fun mining resources. Impressive graph pathfinding, especially since it's dynamic.

Chicken farm by Hadik 2022-10-06T19:19:50Z

Definitely was fun. Only nitpick I have is that I have to double click eggs; there's no reason to not get a coin automatically when selling an egg. The eggs themselves can auto-sell once the coop is full... but maybe that's too much laziness on my part.

Also could've used some sound. But otherwise nothing to critique, personally. I really did like the game.

Shimash by thedashdude 2022-10-06T03:08:28Z

So far 172. I might get to more! This was a fun game.

I liked the screen transition and the little preheat cues for the colliders was a nice touch.

I didn't know that I had 3 lives however. Maybe you can indicate that with a UI somewhere next time, like a zelda style heart system.

Good job!

Rightful by jirrev 2022-10-08T15:11:08Z

twoer.png

I had fun but this was as far as I could go. I did not have any problems indicated by the other comments, but the game did crash the moment my health hit bottom so I didn't see a gameover screen or anything.

Good job with the tower defense mechanics. You got it down to a t.

Cook'n'Slash! by Nikolay Zapolnov 2022-10-05T12:41:58Z

First of all congrats on making these wonderful 3d art in such a short time.

I think the biggest issue with my playthrough though is that each tomato kill gives like 4~5 points at once sometimes. Maybe you can make it easier by allowing the points to go over the required number, instead of making it accept only the exact right amount. Otherwise you may have to fix the bug.

Other than that the idea and games is there. Great job! You definitely scored the humor bar as well.

edit: Okay I've decided to give this another try since I realized what the fork was for. I can definitely see the game now.

Groceries Please! by natpat 2022-10-07T09:30:32Z

I was gonna post an ending image but did not for fear of spoilers. It had a bittersweet ending, not a perfectly happy one but there is always hope and everyone stayed on course in the end. I wonder how things will turn out if I choose a little differently next time around.

Nova Pulse Bakery by WegPast 2022-10-06T16:36:33Z

I really liked it. I have to admit, I went head in not reading your guide at all, I finished in 105 pulses. Second try I got 68, I could've shortened it but the rng god refused to give me fire pulse for my doughs to burn. I may try once more but I think I played enough to rate.

First of all, great job on the aesthetics. I know spriting is not as easy as it looks but you nailed it. I do feel like the UI border for the elements can be a little cleaner, just having a clear line is easier to sprite as it is to look at. Sound job was great too, sfx and music blend together well and fit the mood.

It'd be nice if there's a way to know if the kneader and oven has water and compost already in it. I know the ui glows green if I'm holding the duplicate resource, but I feel like I need that knowledge all the time. I did accidently make a compost a couple of times, only to find out I already inserted it. I had less problems with that with water, since water is so ubiquitous, but it will still be an improvement.

Speaking of water, I feel like 3 steps for water can be a little daunting. I can barely finish that in a pulse cycle, and only if I have a resource slot to hold it, which I rarely do. Maybe that's intentional since the water pulse is there to help, but I don't know, I had the hardest problem with the well than anywhere else.

Also.... this is just a suggestion. I honestly don't know how it would turn out, but maybe it'll help if the pulse rng is not completely random. Believe me, my 2nd round I got fire in like 15 pulses. Maybe I was extremely unlucky, but sometimes rng does not have to be purely random in these kinds of games, where all pulses are necessary and best when they mix a lot. Or maybe you could make it a fixed cycle.. although you might have to adjust the game a little.

Alright, very fun game overall, else I would not be playing again. I'm going to give my 3rd try now. Brb.

edit: Yay! 29 pulses!

Nova Pulse Bakery by WegPast 2022-10-07T08:49:40Z

@wegpast I for one am fine with the update, but not that I speak for the whole community. Thank you for taking my critique as constructive! I really did like the game enough to play it 3 times.

Coffee Rush by Trusty 2022-10-07T09:11:30Z

I couldn't stop laughing because I've never been this stressed out playing a cafe tycoon game, I mean the voice overs lol. But I'm just joking, the game was fun and it wasn't that hard as I thought it was the second time around. Thank you for the experience though, that was definitely a good one lol.

Cookin Bash 10 by TwoWolf 2022-10-05T13:39:19Z

@jejkobb @branquelo Oh no !! I just replayed it and you're right, I NEVER tried inserting my egg into that empty stove! Oh goodness... there's a bug every game that just evades my attention. Luckily I already know what the problem is, I accidentally made it a kitchen layer object and gave it a utility script without having other necessary components, otherwise it really shouldn't throw like that.

Oh the humanity, just when I thought I finally made a bugless game, no sir, there's always one in the end. Thank you for the notice, I'll upload a hotfixed Entry version as soon as I can.

Meanwhile, don't try to put an egg into empty stove people. I'm so sorry lol

edit: I managed to fix the crash and a couple of other minor bugs. The game is safe to play now!

edit2: I also added a spoiler tagged guide for per suggestions that the game can be a little complicated. Thank you for rating my game everyone!

Cookin Bash 10 by TwoWolf 2022-10-06T04:06:27Z

@jag Thank you so much, this means a lot coming from you. You're right, I did initially want to cram a lot more in and one of them was a tutorial which was, as you said, not something I can fit in a 3-day time scale. But maybe I also make my games a little too complicated for my own good, it's one of the issues I always face.

Anyway, enough about my game. I did realize there was an original version, and maybe it's because I already finished the game, but it wasn't that much different! So in my eyes you totally deserved my 5 star ratings as well.

I really do want you to win this round, you deserve it!

Cookin Bash 10 by TwoWolf 2022-10-07T17:07:11Z

Thank you for playing my game everyone!

I think this is about the right time to respond to a few of the crucial feedbacks. So as people already said, this game could be in need of a tutorial. I did put a guide up at the beginning of the post for those who need it, it's a clunky process I know, but that's the best I can do without uploading a post-jam version. Maybe I'll get around to it someday, unfortunately I have a habit of not expanding on my Ludum Dare games until much later.

@thedashdude Yeah, I kind of expected this. It's not a mechanic you see anywhere else, it was an experimental try on my part too. But honestly I just thought it was a fun gimmick to try programming.

@tomga Oh oops I forgot to respond to this comment, yes you can wash anything in the sink even raw ingredients, not just empty dishes. I'll put this up in the guide.

@chase-of-bass Thank you for enjoying the experience!

Cookin Bash 10 by TwoWolf 2022-10-07T17:22:11Z

@asfdfdfd Yup! My childhood directly hits the S/NES era bullseye. Kinda shows doesn't it

But I do want to try out drawing one day, if I get better at it and have the proper tools

Cookin Bash 10 by TwoWolf 2022-10-08T15:09:16Z

@voidsay Oh, there's a timer at the topright counting 10 seconds. Any action, no matter when it started, will finish once that timer hits 0. Theoretically you can use this to finish all the minor chores first then start cooking/washing at the last moment. You were actually very lucky since most of your actions started near the end of the timer, that's why it appeared to finish instantly. Also waiter actions finish instantly by default.

Yeah, honestly the thought bubble got in the way of my play too so it was definitely a concern but I had no time to think of some other way.

Cookin Bash 10 by TwoWolf 2022-10-12T04:57:17Z

Thank you everyone for playing my game!

@sohei This was initially my expected response. It can be very easy once you know what goes where. Originally there was going to be multiple levels and unlocking upgrades like normal tycoons with a tutorial at the beginning. Really naively ambitious now that I think about it..

Every 10 seconds life by aDeCon 2022-10-10T04:21:07Z

I have to admit, the ending message comes different when you know it's from Ukraine.

Clocktower by Voidsay 2022-10-08T16:02:59Z

Huh... I feel like I won this game much faster than I should've, as if I skipped a couple of predestined near-rage-quit moments. Anyway good game, nice 3D work and level design in compo time.

Sweet Seconds by Jag 2022-10-06T03:32:20Z

Wow.

I'll be really honest. This is the kind of game I wanted to make.

You actually did it. I really don't have anything to critic. Everything from the art, bgm, sfx, play time, game/level design, and balancing... was all perfect. I beat all levels by the way, I actually feel like I played a complete game.

låndskein by Demure 2022-10-10T04:46:31Z

Was a very fun relaxing game. I always like the nature vs industry theme, I know it's objectively kinda cliche, but I personally prefer its mood. I admit I didn't really have to know the rules to win twice, but honestly I don't think it really matters when I could have a fun experience. I also know how much care you'd have to put into programming tile logic and AI. Good job!

Bygone Melodies by Save Sloth Studios 2022-10-05T13:06:30Z

Wow this was fantastic! The storytelling, the art, the music, all of it had me engaged! The art style in particular really did a number on this game's mood, really love it! I really liked the little dances that those characters did, the animator really deserves a cookie for all this. The music was great too and I especially loved the little off-harmony notes that played when you got it wrong. And I experienced no programming issue whatsoever, so really this is a case where everyone did their part extremely well.

If I may, I do have just a little teeny tiny issue in game play. Normally rhythm games like these give you cues in advance, like an oncoming note or a tutorial for special actions like in rhythm heaven. It's not impossible perse but the stomp and lift cues tend to happen a little too fast here to get it right whenever there's a new variation. Now, this can be a game design if it was intended. It's not hard to beat the game anyhow since the patterns are simple and variations do not happen that often (there is no game over to my knowledge). Maybe it was intentional that you have to know the entire song/pattern in advance to play it perfectly. It is kind of unprecedented gameplay however.

And also maybe the 10 seconds thing was a little out of place to be honest. This isn't really an issue since it's jam anyway, but I feel like it didn't really have anything to do with anything.

Otherwise I can't find any problems with it! Really great job guys and I mean it, and once again superb work with the artwork! I'd do anything to draw and animate like that.

Room Again by SofiGnedova 2022-10-06T17:14:55Z

It was a fun game. The mood was great, nice hand-drawn environment, and the puzzle was just the right amount of difficulty and made sense, or at least it followed the standard click-adventure logic (without clicking, interestingly.)

I do have two issues. The first may be somewhat personal, but I think E is a strange key to bind a Search action, when you're using WASD for movement. Normally, unless you're using a mouse in your right hand, you use the arrows key for movement in games like these. Then E would've been fine. My problem is not with WASD though, that is understandable and commonplace. But then the search should've been bound to something like the Space key, since the thumb is idling. The E key you have to press with your index finger, which is also used for D right movement. They can sort of get in the way of each other.

I'm sorry I know I sound very nitpicky right now, but I actually did feel this way during my playthrough, and I felt that I had to tell you. This is not going to affect my game rating, it's just a very minor heads up to help you consider this in future game design, beyond Ludum Dare. You either have to make your keys customizable and/or have them not hinder each other.

The second is that there was no clear indication of an ending. You might want a The End or a To Be Continued... sign. They're almost obligatory, and honestly I stalled for a couple of seconds waiting for the story to progress.

Sorry, I did not mean to write this long. It really was a nice game, something I can definitely play for longer. Great job!

Four Cents by BougieBirdie 2022-10-07T15:51:57Z

Very fun game. Intuitive, fast paced, challenging, but not unfair. Love the cafe environment too. Got up to $10 but I think I can do more. I wonder if there was a way to clear your cup once you make a mistake? I broke my run because I accidently put espresso instead of coffee..

Unfortunately my most favorite is the one I first painted. It was so perfect I thought it'd all be like that so I didn't save. Oops.

Cantina Spirit by Fever 2022-10-05T13:24:06Z

Alright that was a little addictive. It was fun, otherwise I wouldn't be playing 5~10 more minutes past the last upgrade. I have to say, the best thing I like about this game is the sound effect and music. The music was really apt and the sound effects really liven this game. I also liked the surprisingly coordinate pathfinding your characters do. The game was honestly not much of a challenge at all, but I really can't say I didn't have fun serving alcohol to the wild west cowboys.

Timeslime by asbjorn 2022-10-06T02:48:23Z

Kinda rage inducing but in a good way.

I swear the slime generator AI calculates my every move.

Meteoriseten by Igor Morgun 2022-10-06T02:57:43Z

Yay I got to 30 (I hid in the corner)

Is this your first game? Good job, first of all. You finished the game. You also did everything to set the mood right, background and slime animation and everything. Maybe next time you can slowly start painting UI for the buttons and/or animating other objects.

You can use a circle collider for the slime and meteor as they fit the shape better. I'll be looking forward to your next game in the jam! You only have to improve bit by bit every time.

Finally some metroidvania! This dare was so lacking in that genre and here we are. Gotta say, really impressed by the level of polish and a short digestable story without any loose ends. You also made me interested in PICO-8 too.

Dude you have got to be giving out ratings and promoting yourself harder because this is a gem that can't be buried. I feel like this is winning material even. I got all 16 upgrades and weapons, homing missile really op. I realized a little too late that the passengers respawn, I thought it was a time run for delivering everyone. Apparently I have to die to be ranked (I'm not even sure I can die right now), I kinda wish there was an ending but I'm not the one to talk. I still don't know what makes the timer goes up, because that basically made it an infinite run. Is it the combo or picking up passengers (don't tell me it's a bug)? Level design was superb, tile sprites were marvelous and may I slap you for the enemy placement? Overall a solid perfect.

edit: Looks like you already won a couple of times, it shows. I'm guessing you have an auto-tile and a tile randomizer? I still don't know how you sprite this fast though. Kudos man. I really want to try making something like this, even if it's not for a jam

Hover Bites by Togis 2023-05-02T13:41:32Z

I really liked it. Transport tycoons are rare these days and it really took me back. But remind me never to become a drone traffic manager because for some reason I suck at it.

Package Panik by Gerolmed 2023-05-05T05:21:13Z

That was extremely addictive. I really enjoyed watching those trucks just scrawling about doing their thing. I do agree with some above comments though, I lost despite upgrading everything and buying as many trucks as I can. I noticed that the drones don't do anything at all and in the game over scene there's a blue package that I somehow delivered 0 of. Am I missing something? (Maybe I should've put all my spawners at the middle like the pic above) Regardless, it is a simulation I want to try making and that's something.

Delivering Justice by IgorFolz 2023-05-02T05:26:42Z

I see the potential of a great game. Done well, this can succeed the Ace Attorney series. I loved being able to examine the evidences myself. The graphics and UI were greatly refined and it really did feel like a game. As of now, it's a prototype. None of the evidence really mattered in the end, as assissted suicide is strongly implied; and our final choice was rather a personal moral one rather than figuring out facts and evidence. That in itself is fine, I just feel that the game mechanics of investigating evidence can strongly benefit from the latter. If you can somehow manage to do both (along with more research on legal matters), the game may be able to hit the vacant spot that Ace Attorney has unfortunately left of for some time now..

Oh I forgot to mention... I can't believe I didn't think of "delivering justice."

edit: Hey.. I feel like it could be me overreacting, but some of you guys need to rate others in order to be rated and exposed. I was going through the games I rated just in case I missed anything and you guys were the only ones not receiving the duly love. Part of that is because you're not rating others; it's not "essential" but it really helps exposure. Another is to have a webgl build where you can host directly online.

Faking It by Hannah 2023-05-02T12:43:23Z

Untitled-1.png

That was the longest 5 minutes in my life. The demonic mode was actually easier, and I beat it with that level of suspicion in the pic. Or maybe I just got better at being a photorealistic accurate representation of a politician. When do I run for candidacy?

Huh.. I didn't feel it at first but as I was rating it I felt like you nailed everything. Smooth graphics, appropriate audio, good theme interpretation, and it was very fun too.

Boxbrawl Delivery by Cruise Elroy 2023-05-02T18:30:58Z

Absolutely nailed the NES era aesthetics, right on down to the audio and responses and everything. The callback to the past was astounding, it actually made me want to take up NES again, especially for those cryptic games I never saw the ending of.

Too Hot to Hendl by Fis 2023-05-02T12:07:28Z

Honestly it was more of a platformer than a puzzle. I had to depend on my control reflexes more than my brain, but I had fun. Lvl 9 was... it required a bit of luck to throw it properly but it was fine. Another hurdle was 13 and.. I don't even want to know what was hiding in the wheat bush in the last stage lol. You almost had me at the end but luckily I saw it sticking out. GG.

Rawnhill Post by grizeldi 2023-05-02T20:26:44Z

Untitled-1.png

First of all, you had the best music of all. I don't know, it could be elevatorish to some but it just really is my style. I wished the menu bgm could go on for longer but the main theme was very good too. Can't say I liked the stage ending resetting it though.

And the puzzles.. you and pigeon post principle made me rethink about puzzles. How on earth do you make these? Does it just come to you? I've never tried before. It seems like one thing to solve puzzles totally another to make one. Really made me want to try out making puzzles the next run. The difficulty was just right - a bit challenging but rewarding, and very creative too.

edit: Hey, you opted out of Audio... that's too bad, I really meant it when I said I loved your bgm the most. On second listen though, just because I felt like it.. ramps are fine but you gotta pay it off at some point, y'know what I mean? It felt like a prolonged intro - I mean, it is an intro music - but it felt like it was going somewhere and it didn't. You have a repetitive harmony and then boom you introduce a new chord progression that resolves that tension.

Sorry, I'm being nosy. It's because I really liked your instrument arrangemnt and audio production. Well.. carrying on..

Rawnhill Post by grizeldi 2023-05-02T21:00:54Z

Ah I see, I guess that explains the production quality of the audio... and also the elevatorish ramp thing. Never mind my take on that then. I really would love some insight on the puzzles because I really liked the puzzle game design. I felt like I can learn a thing or two.

Rawnhill Post by grizeldi 2023-05-04T07:40:51Z

@pickydogfish Ah~ GMTK, everyone's favorite source for game design. Funny that I don't remember any vid about puzzles, I'll look into it. I'm gonna copy paste that comment body of yours and save it somewhere and reference that for my puzzle game next dare.

In return, I do feel like I can give this perspective: the difficulty and amount of levels was just right, at least for me. No need to overestimate players' ability & patience, they don't have the same perspective as yours who made and replayed the game mechanics many many times, especially for game jams. I guess the last level could've been a tiny bit harder - it definitely wasn't the hardest for me - but that's the only thing I can think of at the top of my mind rn.

The Pigeon Post Principle by cassowary 2023-05-01T04:38:02Z

I was meaning to play this, actually. I was going to play just one before I go to bed, and it looks like I've chosen well. It's been awhile since I've played a puzzle game. Inspires me to make my own puzzle game, too. It's one thing to play puzzles - quite another to make them.

Zip Drone Dash by SirLich 2023-05-03T12:42:04Z

It was fun. It took like two plays to get the hang of it. But I managed to get a good enough score, though not as nearly as high as yours. (I also thought it was funny how fast the sudden plane drop is in energy depletion lol)

Seedling by TwoWolf 2023-05-01T13:58:48Z

Thank you for playing my game. It's a nice feeling to be receive ratings before I even start rating. I took both your critiques (I actually expected that one...) and added a small disable-bouncing button at the bottomright corner. Hopefully this doesn't waste more of anyone's time. I added a little explanation on why I did that in the descriptions if you're interested. I'm glad you enjoyed it overall.

Seedling by TwoWolf 2023-05-02T06:10:48Z

@osh-studio I used aesprite and a self-made atlas editor for visuals. For FL Studio I used an 8bit plugin (very common) with fl3 delay and reverb, both for the sfx and bgm. I'll actually put that in the descriptions. Thank you for playing the game

Seedling by TwoWolf 2023-05-02T16:27:49Z

@moebiusmeow Woah.. thank you so much. I don't think I've ever gotten this much of a compliment on a game jam before. I'm glad I could deliver the experience I had in mind. ;)

Seedling by TwoWolf 2023-05-03T09:11:00Z

@justslavic Oops, I only took some time off now to read this. I'm glad someone mentioned that small textbox, even I forgot about it lol. If you enter a name and leave it there, you can get a nametag with a highscore. I entered "High" there and that is when I conveniently got that 100k. (I don't know how. It was utter luck and sheer universal conspiration, I can't replicate it.) I'll put that in the description.

@raffe Thank you so much for the detailed review! Yes we all have to learn from our past mistakes eventually, it took me 4 tries + 1 to make a much simpler game. It's also actually quite amazing that the bgm that I spent like 10~15 minutes on has gotten this much good review. Y'know what artists say, it's something you dish out unknowingly that gets the most love.

Thank you everyone for playing the game. I'm very satisfied to have given you the experience I designed for this run.

The Herd's Journey by Vhalenn 2023-05-02T10:51:42Z

Lovely play. You have everything ready for a full rts game, and I loved the mood of the game very much. I see some potential here, like someone said above, non-violent rts games are not something you see too often. My next suggestion would be to show some hud to check if horses are actually carrying resources. Then you can add more resources, npcs, and maybe one or two more core game mechanics. Add some heartwarming story to the mix then you're off to a great start.

Hey, I read your profile and it found it really inspiring! Your game was great considering it was made in just 2 days, I cannot even attempt to make 3d art that fast. The controls were fine too, on my part (unless you turn off the stabilizer then it's chaos but I guess that's a given.) Figuring out what to do was kind of hard, until I saw the tutorials. If this was an adventure game this is probably the level I'll be stuck in for awhile (mainly because I didn't know you can go inside the barn.) But I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Overall you made me very hungry too hehe. Great job!

Peggy's Post by suvi 2023-05-14T06:42:16Z

Lovely game. Reminded me of paper's please, although it seems like an obvious throwback. And with a very different calm mood too. I never got to be fined for unsent packages though. It's possible to pay for rent before day 7 and not be accounted for all the unsent packages. Theoretically you can just pile them all up without penalty.

If there was a hard mode (say $50 instead of $25) and we can't end the game until we send all the packages on our table, I think it would make for a perfect lovely game.

Lovely vibe. I can't believe I didn't think of delivering letters, but I guess that's a unique way of interpreting the theme. Moreso, I really liked being a sort of mental therapist for these people who need help so much. I do have to admit I'm not too sure whether my choices have any effect other than the header paragraphs. But it was beautiful nonetheless. (+ I really like that they all use magic somehow.)

African Bicycle Dealer by OldDog 2023-05-02T10:13:33Z

Loved the game. I like idle games and I guess I really just like the environment. I do agree that the cost of cyclists to cities ratio is a bit too much, but maybe that's just me.

edit: Sorry I must have lost my mind in the middle of writing this comment. Anyway, what I meant was that it's no biggie.

Hedge Hauler by trASSh 2023-05-02T17:25:42Z

Untitled-1.png

I really liked the game, the pic should be the proof. But I have to say, the poor truck just can't keep up with the supply and demand. I wanted to play further to see when the truck will be fast enough (because it does decrease 0.2s at a time, not exponentially, so theoretically eventually it's going to) but the truck won't come back after I upgraded the last cost. I assume it's an max-int bug, or something.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked the game. And it's the story that really sold me I wanted to continue grandpa's legacy lol. I just think the game balancing could use some twiddling. I think the biggest reason is that there's only one truck; having just a bit more farmers' carry weight and matching harvest count is seriously OP at the moment.

I have no idea how but I did it... I mean I did try to place them according to the hints so the tutorial did help. I'd love to say it was fun except... I had no idea how I did it. But I liked seeing them grow and do their thing.

Conway's Game of Life huh. Interesting. Is there an actual winning strategy to these things actually calculating bst? For me it was just... this pattern is a rook, that pattern is a bishop, and that pattern is queen... and all gut feeling lol.

Grocery store by dUmMy432 2023-05-06T16:59:41Z

That was a quickie. It almost took me only one try to beat it. It had potential, the first part of selecting the item actually requires attention but the later stage could use some difficulty. If you just push right and up you can win at this current stage. I feel like there's a game here that can be expanded though. Good job for 2 days

Ludum 53 Delivery by rodvik 2023-05-06T16:00:38Z

Hey, nice explanation vid! I liked the parallax stars and went up to about 4~5 scores. Just one tiny thing, you don't have to deploy debug and even lib files in your zip. You only need your exe, dlls, and other data files next time. .pdb files can especially be safely deleted for a much smaller package size.

edit: As far as first games go, it was a better start than you think. But usually if you don't have an engine prepared in advance (whether self-rolled or popular ones like Unity cocos2d-x) you might have a harder time than others. I use Unity and had a lot of scripts prepared in advance. If you want to try out again next time, preparing some game modules in advance might help since that is not only not against the rules but also encouraged. Openframeworks is less of a game engine and more of a general purpose rendering engine (although it appears powerful in what it does in its own right.)

One thing I really liked was the sfx so keep it up with that one. We hope to be seeing you around again!

Delivery Boy by waptaincaffles 2023-05-02T10:37:24Z

I had fun, the game pace and difficulty was just right, and I liked the little humor diddly at the beginning. But... I didn't want to mention this since no one else did but... maybe I was just unlucky but there's a bug where boy won't land on the platform. It's okay, Unity does that often...

Deadly Delivery Dash by PotatoCouch 2023-05-04T08:59:55Z

I get the game in theory, but in practice the game mechanics where movement(evasion) and attack are bound together are just not my cup of tea. It's just.. too hard or rather confusing for me I guess. Like, I want to shoot that red guy but then I get propelled the other way and hit that bullet. I know that's the game, it's just... I did get to around 19000, but even that was through sheer luck where red guys won't spawn near me.

The game has a very playable loop though and I did have some fun trying, at least. I didn't feel like it was the game's fault necessarily, so I won't rate it. Just felt like you might need this perspective.

Delivery Survivor by Smoky01 2023-05-04T08:35:16Z

I did eventually pick up the gem and find the right portal in the corner and placed it. Unfortunately nothing seemed to have happened, it just disappeared.

It's fine, it's your first game. As others have said already, you need player feedback. As of now, we're not informed of whether something happened or not. If you don't have time for walking animation, you need at least some kind of "hit" state to indicate you're hurt, like knockback or character flashing. Same goes for enemies. And same goes for pickup up and placing gems, seeing if it's successfully landed in the portal, etc. If animation is too hard you at least need sfx.

I was looking to play this because of the title screen, but uh... 48~72 hrs is not enough time to make a beautiful title screen alone. Since it's jam I suppose it could've been prepared. It's fine if the graphics is imperfect, just try to put in game-necessary callbacks (i.e. animations, sfx, etc) and refine the game loop so that we as players feel like we're progressing.

Overall, nice starting place though. You'll get better at time management and game design coordination each jam with accumulated experience, don't worry.

Mini Industries by IcarusDev2 2023-05-02T04:46:24Z

Hey. It was fun simulation of a city growth. With a bit more ui polish and features it could be a full fledged game.

Of Mice and Mail by ShamanTramp 2023-05-04T07:50:45Z

I just had to play because of the interesting art style. Nice use of multi-layer parallax too. Really enjoyed causing mayhem overall, and the sfx really made it for this game, not to mention that funky bgm.
