Awesome game! Super good graphics, although there ended up being some floating grass/trees in a few areas. Took me a little to get used to the gameplay, but it was very fun when i got the hang of it. Thanks for making this!
I don't even care if it fits the mood. 5 on everything. This game is legit!
I love the game, but I found the controls difficult. I wish I could be good at it!
I like the concept and the art style a lot. The controls are a bit... unique. Making a twin stick shooter but also with behind-the-back camera controls was ambitious, and I don't think your game found a good solution.
But overall, I had some fun as a badass-looking cat zipping around at top speed shooting other cats out of existence and stealing their essence for upgrades. Nice work!
Nice! I loved the premise, the art and the idea but had some problems rotating the camera with right click, also tracking enemy bullets can be a bit tough sometimes.
I may have just missed something painfully obvious, but I couldn't find a shop to spend my health at. Also, camera controls were tricky to use. But very fun look!
Cool game! I like the fast paced crazy action and found it amusing to just zoom around with my cat.My big problem was that for a game this fast paced and crazy the player gun should have been hit-scan. I found it nearly impossible to hit anything with the slow moving balls when everything else was going so fast. Other then that though I had a good time playing your game. Good job!
graphics seems very beautiful, will play it tomorrow for sure ... too sleepy for that now
Haha! I loved this game so much! I hope whoever made the 3D models for this game gets the message! Wonderful work all around! The music too! It's a really solid game mechanically and how it flows as a whole. Nice job.
I wish the shooting had some lock-on or aiming assistance. Had a hard time getting kills, but maybe I'm just bad, heheh. I also wish the game paused while shopping so I could think about my purchase without worrying about dying.
All in all, wonderful game, wonderful characters, lovely soul! Thanks for making this!
Took me a while to realize that tab was actually the store. It should raise and lower faster because cats are shooting at me! Great job people, the graphics are good looking.
What a fun idea! Movement and shooting feels very good, but I found the camera controls to be awkward, especially that you can't look up/down - the bounty panel kept blocking my view. However, beautiful graphics.
Great controls, also fantastic visuals! Great job!
The cats are so adorable <3 The camera controls could use some work tho :)
Really gorgeous game, had loads of fun!
Nice game just the camera control is a bit difficult to handle, and while I respawn the enemies are already targeting me and it's a bit tricky some times.
Cat is very cutie x)
Les graphismes et le colorscript sont vraiment hyper chouette, j'adore le mood !
This game is so frenetic *-*. Good music and graphics! (I'm not that good in the game, but I found it a little hard to target cats with rockets on their feet!)
Okay this immediately grabbed my attention. Let's see how this goes.
I beat the game. Your game was fantastic! The art style was really simple and to the point. It could have used a bit of lighting or especially fog, but I'm not complaining. The music was okay too and I liked the cat meow. It also fit the theme pretty well. I liked how you gain other cats' lives and combine it with your own and use it as a currency.
Now onto the game. Personally the camera was fine, I think that's part of the gaming aspect, but the acceleration was a bit too much. I died a couple of times because I went out of bounds due to not being able to stop myself in time. The upgrades were good, and the game ended before I could experience all of them, but some of them are overpowered - like the bullet speed one is clearly superior to the bullet size one. Also I felt that my success depended on luck rather than skill. The controls can be a little erratic and hard to point. This is also why the bullet speed upgrade rules over them all.
With a bit of tweaking and balancing and this could make a very good online game! This may sound strange but I had a very io feel to it where the stronger ones become even stronger.
It was very fun!
@twowolf Thank you for your honest and detailed comment! We were very very happy to hear that you (and all others here) enjoyed our game! And yes our goal is to make this game online playable after the jam! But for the next couple of days we all need some rest x)
@regoradin the [tab] key brings up the shop.
For few first minutes, I thought Its kinda carp, but after I learned controls It felt really fun and the idea of a game, except shooting and camera rotation, still sucks(i found hard and annoying using it). After all, you deserve 5 stars for fun, theme, fun and mood, that's for sure. :D. Keep it up. And I found a bug if you have 1hp and you die, but your bullet hits something and you get hp, then I'm stuck in the air forever.
@biebras Thank you for your feedback and bug report! That is very helpful for us! Thank you very much!
I can't play because the starting window on linux is too long for my screen resolution and I can't click start
uff.png
The controls are a bit clunky, but man the game was really fun despite that.
Perfect game, very amusing! Would make for a good multiplayer. Personally I'd have the rotations on A and D, and maybe a bit faster.
The tutorial popping up every time you died was almost experience ruining for me
@memel06 Thank you for your feedback! The new link to the Linux version contains a Version with a smaller Icon. That should fix that problem and we hope you can enjoy our game!
Was entertaining and engaging while keeping it light. I found the controls (especially the aiming) to be a bit unintuitive, but the art, idea, and functions of the game were spectacular other than that!
That was fun! Even when I made a mistake and bought speed upgrages and started to fall away from map all time :D
The art style reminds me a lot of Night in the Woods. The game is pretty fun, it's like a small mini BR game with cats. Sometimes I can't reliably move the way I want to in the game but maybe I'm not too used to the controls yet. Other than that, I really had fun with the game. Great job!
amazing game. i really love the art style and humor of it. for some reason i couldn't finish the level because the last cat disappeared on me and i fell out too many times while i was searching for it
This is game is so much fun. Was immediately hooked and kept trying and trying to get all those cats. The music fits perfect, the text is even super cool. This game just hypes me up, amazing work! Well done team!
Very cool game! Really enjoyed playing it. The art style is amazing. I also made a game with cats! :) Good job to the team!
Very good idea. I quite like testing cats gunslingers with floating boots. I'll see you an hour later to play him with the people at work.
Excellent game very fun but a bit hard at first, though for some other new feedback, with the loading screen I would recommend you could have reset the data and positions of everything instead of reloading the level for a faster replay of the game, though the load is fairly short!
@bentekiller The Level is randomly generated and populated on each run thats why you always have the loading time.
I like the visuals, they are really sweet. Gameplay is kinda repetitive and common, but, in overall, fun to play. Good job!
This is wonderful, great job! :)
It's kinda hard to aim and kill enemies in the game and you die too quickly, but other than that I really enjoyed it.
It's very funny and beautiful and I loved the theme and overall idea. nice job!
Really funny, really fun, and really thematic. Absolutely fantastic entry.
Played four times, got two wins, and two losses, one of which was due to the last cat disappearing (assumedly they sped off the map as I did a number of times :P), but had fun nevertheless. The balance is fantastic, the visuals are great, and the utter insanity of zooming around with practically no drag or friction to stop you is just *ridiculously* fun.
My only nitpicks would be that the mouse camera controls are inverted (under my Linux install, anyway), and that rotating the camera with Q/E is pretty slow, but those're mostly just tiny polish tid-bits.
Great work, overall!
Nice graphics ! Good idea its a nice submit
No lie the music is pretty kick-ass, and that's pretty much how to describe the rest of the game as well. I don't even need to bother shooting my adversaries, just speeding around like a super ball and getting sick air is plenty fun.
The shooting is a little jank, it's hard to tell if I'm really on target or not, but maybe that's just further contributing to the wild style of the game.
It is lovely, and also very difficult for me - in about ten attempts to play I think I've shot down a single cat. Pity I dont experience any music and I was really looking forward hearing it when reading there is supposed to be kick-ass one present; only effects and meowing :) for me. Will come back and try on another computer and OS. Looks so good that it's easy to remember. Btw nice timelapse, adding a personal touch.
@onnofal thank you for the feedback. So which one is the troublesome OS? We would like to fix that problem :)
Fun game a little tricky on the uptake and was greeted with several back to back deaths but a good submission. Characters are very reminiscent of Night in the Woods (mostly the eyes and eye patch) but it is a good looking and well rounded submission.
first of all, really enjoyed the game, would of loved to see more player feedback on death and for the lives to update as soon as they're changed and to possibly make the camera controls a little easier for someone not used to these types of games but it was a really great game, art, music, concept, amazing <3 keep up the great work and i would love to see a future update on this
@413x It was Win10, and I've tried on two machines: both musicless. Now on Linux I hear it finally, really fits, but I still keep failing same as before :)
Thanks for interest in fixing it, but I am afraid I cannot much help pointing something more out, and it's funny since it looks like nobody else has such a trouble.
Way fun!! I had to 5.0 the goods! I'm on a Mac tower and it works like a charm. Great scrolling, great dynamics...loved it! And dude...Cats Without Cars...I want that to be a band or something!!! Great name!! :)
Very fun! Only gripe I had was that the camera and movement controls are a bit unwieldy, holding the right mouse to turn it instead of just turning with the aim was a bit strange, especially because you could only accelerate in the direction you aimed. Other than that, excellent job in every area! I don't really like textwalls but this one was ridiculously funny. Good job!
I loved the art style!!! I think maybe it could be better with a third person camera, nearer the character like in the intro stage, the models are so beautiful but with the "top down" camera everything looks like the same.
Nice game idea too!!!!
I can't find the last bad cat :sob: Really good game! good luck!
Very nice graphics and good mechanics. :cat:
@falak @cliffracerx @nisanick new Bugfix is up no hidden cats anymore
Nice game and great art. It's a bit clunky that the camera doesn't automatically rotate. I would also like to be able do get some lives back by downgrading certain skills, after I have upgraded them.
I got a score of 919 in the end. The game is aesthetically pleasing and the audio is great. IMO it is a bit hard to control the characters and look around (maybe a top down view would have worked better) but the gameplay itself is fun. Also some MGS references? :)
I had fun playing. It would be nice it you could swap around your upgrades. All the little moves and giggles are really nice especially the bouncing sheep.
HOO BOY WHAT A BLAST
Very nice game! I like the graphics and the gameplay in general is very fun! Nice work!
Really fun game, the art style is ace and the music is excellent :-)
Overall your game is great it has lot of potential. I just had these few issues that I think you could improve on.
First of all controls, I found the way movement worked in bit annoying way. Camera movement seemed too fast and control scheme was too complicated for me to get in such a fast paced game.
Level structure and spawning player was quite unfair. Enemies would shoot me from out of screen and with the really fast moving bullets dodging is quite hard. Some obstacles in level could prevent this. And maybe limit how high you can aim, as there was lot of spawn camping happening, sometimes I could not even land before I was already shot. Also didn’t find any shops (or stayed alive long enough to find them)?
I love the night-in-the-wood-ish art style. Just some nitpicking for the graphics: things like margins and cohesion with UI graphics and rest of the game bothered me. Really making sure that every margin and padding and such is though out can make graphics go from great to perfect.
All in all your game nicely executed and has lot of great aspects in it, despite minor flaws.
I played the initial version because I was afraid that you could have added something to the game. So all the bug I saw are probably fixed but I'm gonna mention them anyway just in case ^^ This game was really gun to play. I loved the music which totally fits the mood ^^ The graphics looked really good and I had a lot of fun playing it. My highest bounty was something slightly above 2000 but I still had fun playing it and I was actually not sure if it was possible to kill the bad cats. The terrain seemed a bit bugged: Some trees and some grass were floating in the air. The models looked really good ^^ Maybe it could have been easier to see all bullets if they were seen through the trees, but I think that is a bit hard to implement :D especially in this short amount of time. What was really annoying was the respawn in this game. Some invincibility-time would have been really usefull because very often the bad cats would just camp at the spawn and erase all my lifes because I died only once T-T Because of that my 7 lifes were often just gone because I died once. As a summary it is a really great game and the only thing I wish is a fix with the spawn and maybe more variety ^^ to make it a full game :D Also an online mode could be cool. This game has certainly potential ;)
The controls took some time to get used to, but the movement turned out to be quite satisfying. It's quite easy to build up a lot of momentum and fly off the stage, but I found that to be part of the fun! It almost reminds me of the Tribes games. While the game isn't super innovative, it does fit the theme. Understandably, many of the games I've tried seem to revolve around cats and the concept of 9 lives. Both the art and audio are great, overall it's a fun little game and a solid entry! Good job!
@drskort yes you are right, most of the bugs are fixed in the latest version, but you could also see it that way, that the original version has just a higher difficulty and unpredictable behavior ;p
Also in the original version every cat had 7 lifes, even the bad ones. So you would need to kill all 10 bad cats 7 times.
And great score with 2000 points! Glad you had fun with our game!
FP
Awesome background music, softbody simulation turns things more organic and living.
Color pallette turns some of the characters almost under a camouflage, i think that they should have more living, saturated, contrasting colors.
Add some kindd of vertex animation to grass and tree leaves, a bit of leaves particles to add more depth and immersion.
Add sound ambience to the forest, like leaves, wind, birds, with a bit of reverberation to increase the sensation of an open space.
Add a flickering point light below the rocket boots to add more presence and power to It, some scorched earth and burning grass trails.
Add small trail renders to assist the aiming and a point light to the bullets to also increase their visibility.
Loved the game! Nice graphics, audio and gameplay. I got to win "only" with shield and shooting speed but it was intense even that way :-P Nice entry!
_EDIT: Disregard, the comment below clarifies that audio is within the rules and was created within the jam timeframe! :D_
Hi there! If I'm not mistaken, it looks like your entry uses 3rd-party assets -- specifically, the background music. This is totally fine, but **you must OPT OUT of the respective category (Audio)**.
**From the [official Ludum Dare rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules):**
_"You’re free to use 3rd party Artwork/Music/Audio assets, or assets you previously created, but **we ask that you OPT-OUT of the respected voting categories (Graphics, Audio).** You can opt-out of a voting category when you submit your game."_
You can still edit your submission to fix this! For now I'll downvote your audio score, but please let me know if I'm mistaken (e.g. if one of your team members is Markus Graf-Gabriel).
That aside, this was kind of fun, despite being rough around the edges. The combination of 2D aiming and a 3D world with slopes, hills, and jumping mechanics felt a bit strange, as it seemed rather random whether the height of your bullet would match that of the target unless you both were on flat ground. Shooting rate seemed to be the most important upgrade; I wished the bullet size upgrade could be a bit more drastic. While I appreciated the random boarders going about doing their thing I feel like other players might be a bit confused by them (?). The movement is a bit awkward given that you cannot move left and right (strafing). While that is probably a bit more "realistic" it means that the easiest way to actually aim at something with any accuracy is to stand still (or at least, it was for me!)
Despite all that, I finished the game (newer version), and had some fun. Hooray!
This is an entry with a lot of personality! :) I love the art and overall style of this game, it suits the wacky premise you guys have here, well done!
As for the gameplay, it was very easy to understand and learn, but I never felt like I was able to get "good" at it, if that makes sense. It never really felt like I was able to properly dodge incoming bullets, or position myself in a way were I could either take on a defensive position or go on the attack. Whenever I would get into a skirmish with another cat, it was always a toss-up as to whether or not I'd come out on top.
Other than that, though, I really enjoyed this game. :) Well done!
@ddrkirbyisq Hey, thank you for your critic and we're glad you had some fun with our game :-)
Regarding the music: Markus-Graf-Gabriel created the songs together with us, specifically for Cats Without Cars and in the Run-Time of Ludum Dare and therefore is a part of our Team and no Third-Party-Associate, which is why we didn't opt-out of this category out of respect for his work in this project and because he wanted his part to be rated as well. Nothing was previously created and nothing was by an external source. We just linked his channel for people who want to hear more from him, NOT as external source ;-)
@b33thr33: Thanks for the clarification! Carry forth then :)
Great graphics and general atmosphere! Awesome music as well.
Would have been nice with shadows to better "ground" the cats Bullets almost just vanish when hitting something, a bigger explosion would've been nice as well. Gameplay feels a bit too glidey and unprecise - it's still fun, but could do with some tuning!
