Look pretty cool
Hey I really loved the visuals on this one, drew me in.
There are so many combinations! No way to know what does what though, "Antibiotic" did nothing. Healing UI could use a little help, it's a little tedius having to scroll through the whole list. Maybe filter just the ones I have?
At first I didn't know I should kill the monsters to get the necessary gem item to craft. I did beat one monster and it dropped an item used for crafting. Nearly killed me though.
I feel that there is a good potential here. I really do love the consistent natural artstyle and tweening.
Right of the bat this game looks incredible, the animation is super smooth everything looks super responsive and the visual clarity and visual feedback is great this game is begging to be played.
That said the gameplay itself is kinda wierd to get your hands around, of course its a game jam game so you cant expect release quality, but one thing I think would have really helped this game was a clear segmentation into zones, as in you start off in a small controlled zone where there are no encounters so you can get to grasp with the gathering and the mechanics and then you can try to venture deeper into realms where there are more and more dangerous beasts. In my eyes this would help both early and late game, earlier it would help with the tension since right now it's way to easy to get away from the encounters so they are almost a non-being and later when you actually want encounters you'd know where they are easier to find.
Some other small things is that there could be like a small encounter jingle or a transition just so it feels more polished and less jaring to get a random encounter.
I also had what I don't know if it was a bug or not but basically using items only increased my max life not my total life, which honestly I kinda liked since it added a sense of tension to the combat and made every fight something that you had to ponder if the health loss was worth it.
That's the bulk of my criticism otherwise the game looks great I'd love to play a more finished version of this game awesome job!
@x-c Thank you!
@twowolf Thanks for reply! Yes, i'm added more combinations then needed and a lot of items doesn't do anything. If you want, you can see combinations and what i wanted them to do here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hkhH_-UBSzpyn-UHaTtKjtRv-apgIEAVIlIcPiES-Qk/edit?usp=sharing, but i don't recommend to craft all items, because there is no ending, after you craft all.
@captaindaws Thank you! You right in everything, thats all what i'm thinking when working on game. Unfortunately i did not have time to even add function to use item from inventory, and it would take only 5 minutes to make. At first i didn't plan to make random encounters, i wanted enemies to be visible on field. And a lot of other things, which, i hope i'll make in post jam version.
that's a wonderful art style. Keep it up! Well done mate!
I'm actually really upset that you didn't have time to add all the features you wanted, since I really enjoyed what is here, and I've love to 'get in to it' so to speak. anyway, good job man!
Very cool. :)
This is outstanding. The animations are smooth and fun to look at. Just walking around was addicting lol. I love the music and mood of the game. My only complaint is I wish I didn't have to confirm my attacks every time, but I also understanding it's good to have it so people don't accidentally attack so it's probably personal preference. Easily one of the best entries I've played so far! Please make into a full game! :smile_cat:
It's so polished! And the animations!! Good job!
The graphics are realy nice, the movement feels very smooth. Good work!
I had a little bug: I could continue playing with 0 HP, so fighting was quite easy ;-)
Nice little game, these centipede are strong ! good graphics, love the little interrogation point animation, so simple yet so perfect ! Good job, could be extended into a good little game indeed
Thank you all for feedback!
@majadroid oops, totally forgot about that ;)
I wasn't expecting to play as long as I did. The loop is pretty satisfying. A good foundation for a bigger game. Nice work!
Wow, the area is really large and so much collecting! I always run from fight but this is still fun to play!
Sorry double post.
Very interesting game! Did not expect the random battles :P I have a couple critiques -- there were some bugs, like I could combine undefineds to make an undefined, which I then had -1 of lol, I assume that was unintended. Also, when in combat if you go to use an item but don't actually use it, it still decrements the count of that item by one.
In terms of gameplay in general, the movement just felt "off" to me. I don't know if it's because there was some momentum that needed to build up when I changed directions/moved diagonally, but it just didn't quite feel right. Additionally, in the combat menu, I would suggest when attacking in the "Are you sure?" menu, that "Yes" be at the top. Most of the time when you click attack you do, in fact, want to attack, so the exception really is "No" and that should be at the bottom. It made battles feel a little cumbersome because I had to navigate the menus more than necessary.
Overall though, really interesting concept and I loved the graphics and sound/music! Great job!
Great atmosphere, art and polish are definitely there. The short leveling session was enjoyable, there's already a good base if you ever want to expand on it, nice work!
This game has a lot of potencial, you should definitely work on it in the future, the animation is really good and smooth, the gameplay is really fun to play, but a lot of things are missing, as you said you didn't had time to complete, even though I'm probably going to say something you had in your mind to put it in the game, but I'll say anyway.
- Add a start menu - Let the player use their itens in the inventory - Expand the map and maybe add some NPCs deppending what is the storyline your doing it. - More variety of itens, after battle or collectables from the ground. - Maybe when you expand the map, you could add biomes with different itens, enemies and music. - Other options in the attacking mechanic, add buff attacks and things like that. - Itens you can hold to boost stats, like armor and weapons, but you could make something different.
Those were the ideas that came to my mind, of course, is up to you if you are gonna add them or not. Also you did a very good job with this game. Keep the good work!
Great game! I don't know if you're planning to expand the game, but I definitely want to see the complete version of it, with story and all. There are a lot of different enemies too, with different design, that's amazing! I noticed a bug though, when I'm about to use an item there's a prompt with yes/no option, and I selected no, but the item was consumed anyway, with no effect. Overall I think it's a pretty fun game! Nicely done!
- Awesome graphics, smooth character walk animation. The dithered mood overall is very cool. - Music fits the game perfectly, but then it asks for sound effects for the actions - which would help the mood further. - The best part is the concept and idea you tried to implement. Albeit not fully implement, this could turn into a very good final product. - Bug: I kept getting undefined items with negative amounts
I really liked this game! I really love this graphic. The game is reminiscent of old adventure games on the SEGA console. And I'm a big fan of such games!
If you ever finish this job - let me know! I really want to play the full version!
Comment: The transition of the general musical tone - to the tone of the battle - is very sharp.
I absolutely love your pixelart style! And it's impressive how much you've got done in just 72h. Well done!!
The sprites in this one are amazing.
I really dig the run cycle. Seems like you got really far into the core of a JRPG in just 72 hours! Super impressive :D
Wow that artstyle is impressive. The music sets the tone perfectly for the game. :) Wonderful job for such a short amount of time.
I hope you continue this project, would love the play a complete game.
Great game ! I like the pixel art and all the feedback you added to polish your project ! I really like the mood too, remember me of a lot of old-gen rpg ... Maybe a mini-map could be cool to add because I find my self lost when I tried to explore the land ... What's more being able to use item in the menu will be apreciate too ! It is one of my favorite game of this ludum, great job ! As all the comments express it, this is an impressive work in only 72 hours !
