So much potential here, I hope you continue working on this.
It is clear that you guys have been carefully crafting this. Well done. My suggestion would be to be able to play with mouse only.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD46 → Tile Rider!

Hey there, I really liked this game. It has some good polish and seems pretty focused. You should definitely be proud of your work!
I did notice that my attacks didn't always register, but that is honestly all I noticed. Great entry and keep up the good work!
So I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem but the game runs at like 5fps. I won't rate but could you look into the problem?
Looks good. I would have liked a health bar over the enemies so I know how much health they have and how hard I'm hitting them. Also I think you have to hold Space to attack? Just pressing it doesn't play the animation.
Good potential. Good job :)
Great game! One minor issue: the music sounded very...staccato for me. Also, I'd make the farmer's family all vegans, because on my hunt for berries I murdered a cow the size of a house that would have fed them for months...:D
Really like the style ofthis one, but wasn't 100% sure what to do. I thought a tap of 'space' would attack, but it seemed like I had to hold it down in order to complete the animation and kill the monsters.
@twowolf ahh thanks for letting me know! I am not sure what that is as I can't replicate the issue, did it happen immediately or was it after an action was performed in the game. Thanks for the help!
Cute game but there's no feedback for when I was attacking the chicken so I didn't really know if I was damaging it or not
it's good and promising game, unfortunately i played with low FPS in Web Browser. could you add desktop version for this? because some of us prefer to play game in normal FPS  hope you fix this soon
@amazura your wish is my command!! :D Thanks for the feed back, i really appreciate it.
@twowolf I have updated with an EXE build you could try if you would like.
Theres a small glitch where you can drag the bars at the bottom left, but overall the game was really fun. I love the unique visual style.
My murder spree was hastily impeeded by what looked like a giant flaming pig but I'm not entirely sure. You can tell there was a lot of thought and effort put into this. My only complaint would be that combat feels a bit unresponsive so it's a good thing you added the text for when you land a hit! Well done overall!
Very cute art. I get stuck with controls in beginning. Attack on holding space is little unusual for me.
I think there is a lot of potential in this game, I really enjoyed the looks and the sound. Sadly, it didn't work well on my 12" display and it crashed several times. So I didn't made it very far. But I would love to see more on a stable version :)
I realy like the relaxing athmosphere! It would enjoy it even a bit more, if the tiles would fade in smoothly. :) Thumbs up!
I really like the look of the tile map, but had trouble interacting with stuff.
@oneils You were right! Thanks for the tip. I am definitely going to continue this after the Jam :) [CowAttack2.gif](///raw/645/e2/z/323c8.gif)
I liked that game evrything is very good!
Game looks very nice! There are a few things for you to fix: This appears in the web version, after the game is over error.png and the setting button don't work in both. There is a bit of lag too.
Game has a lot of potential and I like the visuals of it. I can tell a lot of love was put into making this game. Could use more visual feedback though, cause I can't tell whether my attacks hit the animals or not.
Overall, its a great entry and I hope you continue working and improving it!
@hexa3 - if youre interested in playing more with these fixes i have made a seperate version on GameJolt you can play :) https://gamejolt.com/games/TileRider/487770
Calm audio and beautiful graphics. I was missing some attack-feedback. Like other people here I wasnt sure if I hit something or not. Nice game!
This game look super nice ! And the music fits soo well congratulation !
I love the way this game looks, with the tiles popping in and out. If only I knew how to "put this hammer to use"
@koemeterion @zezel @just-stanley thanks for playing!
I need to work on making it easier to understand what to do and definately more feedback on the attacks. I will be thinking about that tonight 🤔. The attack feedback has me a little stumped. Any suggestions would be really appreciated! (I tried adding sound affects which helped a little but didn't make it as good as I would have liked)
I like the style, but camera could use some smoothing. Rest is a-okay.
As stated previously, this game have tons of potential! There is so many things that I can imagine being added on a post-jam version (Why not magic spells ? other weapons!). That would make an epic game! Anyway, to stay on the jam, it is true that a feedback on monster would have been great. Since doing a specific animation would have probably been too complicated, maybe changing the color of the ennemyafter a hit ? Probably not the best idear on an aesthetic point of view, but it would clearly shows that you hit. Tiles popping were AWESOME ! However a little delay of them appearing and disapearing could have been more relaxing to watch
Beautiful game! I got surprised by a ultra giant pig and cow and found a chest right behind my house. Just could kill a little bear. The music sound crackilish on my pc on the web gamejolt version. There's a lot of potential here. Great work!
@vernalbehemoth To your question: I'm not sure what would work best, but camera shack, blinking red screen border, sound effect, change enemy size or color for a short time, maybe push the enemy slightly back. Something like that would pop to my mind first.
Gorgeous game, and I really like the concept! I personally had a lot of trouble with the camera though, I found that swinging the world so your character is always facing north was pretty nauseating for me. I also agree with the other commenters, that more attack-feedback would have gone a long way. But if you do decide to continue this, I know I'd love to see where it goes next!
@koemeterion Thank you for taking the time to help me! I will look at implementing a few things and see what works, I will update the post-jam version and see if it works :D
@koemeterion I have done a few of those suggestions, it is a lot better but i think it needs a bit more. Will think some more. You are welcome to give it a try if you want, its on the game jolt link :)
What an expansive world! Loved the low poly tile art. The farm animals were terrifying. Combat was seamless, but I was having some trouble locating objectives. Nice offering with the different camera and tile settings. I did prefer the default overall. Nice jam! Look forward to more.
Hi, I really like the tile-ish idea with the gameplay, but I'm not really sure if it fits well into the theme of "Keep it alive". Though I don't really think it suits this LD, I think you should keep up the great work on the game, and definitely release it - Post-LD.
Though the controls felt smooth during the gameplay, I was sometimes confused by whether I picked up an item or not, so you could possibly improve that.
Also, when I started the game, my laptop started heating up like crazy - I suppose you're doing some updates when you shouldn't be doing so. :D
Cool game. The short view made it hard to navigate around the map especially with their being no distinct landmarks or signs but I found it to be quite a fun game. :D
First, I love the graphics. The tiles look really good, and the way they appear and disappear is great!
Second, there is no feeling like getting almost done in by a chicken, finally managing to end it, running into a dog and then running for your life, only to bump into like ten more animals, all of them out for your blood, and just when you think you've finally lost them, seeing a ginormous cow inexorably come for you D:
Third, gosh is that game hard! Like I said, I'm mortal enemies with chicken now, and running away turns out not to be a good idea.
I may have missed something, but I didn't find any way to heal myself, which might otherwise have kept me alive a bit longer. I also wasn't quite sure how to do the "give berries to family" quest: I tried using E on the starting house tile once I collected 50 berries (both over all 4 kinds and in one specific kind), but it didn't work. I guessed maybe there were other houses that I had to visit, but I always got gored by ferocious pigs before I found any.
Also I thought the particles over the berry bushes (I love that among the berry types are melons and watermelons) were there only when there were berries left to gather (those particles are very nice and are a very clear visual cue btw), but I feel like I sometimes saw them over a spent berry bush after I came back from a walk.
Congrats for the game! If you fix the quest/explain how I can complete it/release another version, I'd love to play some more!
@nolanfa Thank you so much for the thorough review! I really appreciate the feedback. I am very happy that the game has managed to bring you some joy :D , I made this game with two other developers and we tried to cram too much into the Jam and so had to throw in things like melons haha! We had 0 time for testing :P
You can click on the inventory with your mouse to interact, and you can use double health berries to heal. I haven't implemented the logic for giving to the family whilst near the house (so you can do it anywhere in the map).
I believe no one has ever tested the quest past the give 50 berries to your family so if you manage it you may find it a little buggy :) I know for sure that none of us have actually completed the game!
Could you let me know if you are playing the GameJolt version? as that is the latest edition and I believe some of these bugs are fixed there.
Thanks again for your super response!
@nolanfa Ahh found the bug with the particles, thanks! I will fix it in an update tonight, also I will try and test that the game works all the way to the end :D
Ooooh, makes sense! Since all the rest was done using the keyboard I didn't think to try using the mouse.
Also, a couple minor things: I find the chicken noises a bit too loud compared to the rest of the audio, and I feel like the bridge-building doesn't work on the whole bridge tile, which would imo be slightly better (but, like, it's very minor).
After a quick test, it's much better now I know how to use the inventory. I still died by chicken ^^, and I have to go now, but I'll try again in the next few days and I'll let you know if I manage to finish it.
PS: I'm using the gamejolt version
Edit: I can confirm the chest quest doesn't work. I got 4 of them! (tadaaa!)
Very good looking, with polished movement and fighting and UI - especially the way tiles pop in and out was very yummy. However I couldn't really do much except gather some berries and eventually get killed by an endless number of bloodthirsty animals (also a massive cow, lol). It was very unclear what I was supposed to do. Also, if you use "e" on the starting house more than once it will give you the 'hammertime' prompt again!
Good work, just needs some more direction!
@nolanfa New update is up on GameJolt :) I have managed to take into consideration some of your suggestions and have tested it to completion. So fingers crossed it works for you!
@wolfrug - Thanks for the feedback, I have added some new direction on what you should be doing so it is clearer (on the post-jam build hosted on GameJolt). I really appreciate the feedback, I believe one of my biggest triumphs with this game is the huge cows! :D
Game looks great, like the concept. There should be more feedback when you actually hit an enemy. I didn't notice the hit text, so I felt like I was missing all the time. A color tint or animation to the enemy would be all.
Was fun finding the huge cow hehe, the other animals also looks good.
For collection the berries, it seems like you can only pick up one of each type, so I would suggest to turn of the particle effect on those you already picked up, or a info text saying "You already got that" or something.
I found all the 4 berry types and some treasure but nothing happens when I got home. Maybe that just where this version ends, but would have been nice with a game over screen or something.
Overall the game seem to have a lot of potential, with a few improvements and tweaks.
Already mentioned it by polishing the details mentioned by the others it will be a very good game and an excellent job!!!
@zenris and @gameovermexico feel free to play the GameJolt version to see the most up to date version (with most of these suggestions implemented).
Thanks for playing and the feedback it is really appreciated.
Really Cool Game, As you said with the scope of the game came missing polish, just as for my game :D
The Post LD version already feels a lot better. It just needs even more polish. Progress bars for the quests, an indicator of where to find home because you can get lost easily, What are the actual huts doing and so on.
Just in general a lot more feedback so you can feel what you are doing.
Final verdict: Would die to a cow the size of 2 Mountains again xD
my review of the jam version, i could sink hours playing a proper version of this game, its fun inovative but the combat system is just plain bad, health bar for the enemies could make this game so much more fun, also an arrow that always shows where the house is would also be great, the game is very fun and the concept is unique, gameplay and layout are both great, graphics are also top notch, UI needs bit of working great game over all!
hey so me and my friend are developing a game and we really like how you handled the camera, i know this may seem weird(it is  ) but can you share the camera movement script?
@hamzeh no problem at all :D this is all about collaboration, you can have the whole project ;) https://github.com/VernalBehemoth/TileRider
The script you are looking for is linked below, it uses a character controller script placed on the Player GameObject you are moving. The camera is just a child object of the Player GameObject so it follows the rotation and movement of the Player GameObject: https://github.com/VernalBehemoth/TileRider/blob/master/Assets/All/Scripts/Controllers/BasicCharacterController.cs
I liked the unique aesthetic and the way the world pops in and out of view. The game itself seems very large for a jam (I was playing the post jam build though, so maybe that's why :D)
I think I progressed quite far, I was returning to my home to return the gold I'd found, but I couldn't find my way back. Perhaps all that's needed for a little bit of extra polish is some sort of compass to make it easier to navigate?
I really like the graphics, animation and the music. There's an impressive level of polish, especially considering you made this all by yourself. It would be useful if there was some sort of mini map as I got lost in the game, and the attacking didn't seem to do anything to the animals that were attacking me. This might have been me not understanding the fighting mechanics but some more visual/audio feedback for landing a hit might help here. I expected the mouse to control the camera and A/D to move sideways as well so it felt a bit disorientating at first but I did get used to it quickly. Overall it's a solid game though, I particularly appreciated the particle effects for highlighting the objectives in the game :) Good job!
hey, just wanted to say that I played again and I like the small grey cross you added on successful hit, it makes it much clearer when you've hit something, especially in the middle of the woods. Also I feel like I got the Give Gold to Family quest too early (before I gave them the 50 berries), and it stayed there even after I gave one gold to bjorn (but I think also last time I had to give two gold to complete it maybe). I had just died and tried again on the web version, maybe it's something that doesn't reinitialize correctly (I wanted to play it all again but I died a few times so that took too long so I didn't) (also I took a look at the commits on your git and I'm absolutely horrified XD) good luck, thanks for your game, good stuff to you!
To keep things fair, I played the jam version: the atmosphere and mood in this is so good, because of the nice visuals and music! I see a lot of potential in this game and I'm glad to hear that you are working on a post jam version. I will follow you because I want to play the final version!
This is a very original concept, at least I haven't seem it before!
I like the open-world nature of the unveiling of the hexa-tiles; got startled by the ginormous cow! lol
Hey! Played your game and it's very intersting! Here's the feedback, sorry for the late post, I got sick and had to take a break
