edit: Fixed.

Beautiful and addicting :)

i hade trouble figuring out the controls at first, but eventually figured it out. you have to hold a direction AND push the dig button. everything looks nice, but the upgrades cost way too much for how much trouble it is to get the coins. The coins are just way too inconsistent, the level design can just make you lose. The screen speeds up before i can even dig for a little while to get the coins. I see the game here, i'm sad i couldn't get to it, bc i'm not good enough at the early parts.

afuturev 2021-04-26 03:47

The time between input and action seems very long, otherwise the art and music is very nice and cohesive. Nice sprites overall.

tombuston 2021-04-26 13:11

I love the art style! Gameplay is simple, efficient and fun and unlocking upgrades to become stronger works very well. I didn't understand what the "worm" upgrade did however? One issue I had was with the character collision wich is slightly larger than one block, it can be a bit frustrating at the beginning to lose because you're not falling in the hole you just dig.

Overall, really nice job, I really had fun!

twowolf 2021-04-26 13:26

@tombuston Thank you for playing! The worm reduces the rate in which the screen moves downwards. And the mole is 2 tiles wide by design. You're encouraged to use a bomb or upgrade to pick through dead ends.

Thank you for your comment. It's not much but I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

indigowolf 2021-04-26 16:20

I love the art for this. Mechanics felt comfortable and well made.

pinklatticeuwu 2021-04-26 17:47

This felt really polished!! It feels really nice to control and looks great for the time restrictions it was made in too!! :3 Just a heads up that the ui seems to be bugged in fullscreen Feedback_01.png

twowolf 2021-04-27 00:47

@pinklatticeuwu Thank you for playing. Yeah... this game wasn't meant to be played in fullscreen, I don't know if there is a build setting in Unity to suppress that but it is an oversight. Thank you for letting me know.

chensu 2021-04-27 01:34

Love the graphic, also the UI desgine are really cool

goodwincek 2021-04-27 15:06

Great graphics and music! I would have loved to be a little faster, as I got QUICKLY cut off by the camera. Sometimes the input would lag and it would play the dig animation when I needed to be moving.

kristof 2021-04-27 16:36

Cool music and art style. Unfortunately, I never made it very far down, as the screen was way quicker than I could dig. I also could not figure out how to enter the shop?

assertfailure 2021-04-27 17:33

The game feels almost too difficult at first, but after a couple of upgrades it turns into an easy one. It's quite enjoyable, the graphics are very nice and it has a chill feel to it. I got all the way down to 567 or something until I decided to stop :D Very well done!

vasco-freitas 2021-04-28 14:48

This was fun! It felt too slow at first, but then I bought some powerups and the pace quickly picked up. I just wish there were more powerup levels, with a more gradual progression. I got them all very quickly. Also, sometimes the camera would get stuck on the right side, and I lost the powerup that allowed me to dig rock. Otherwise a great game with really good presentation. Well done!

bridgeonastick 2021-04-28 15:07

The game starts off really slow, it takes some time before you can get some good upgrades which let you dig faster. Some of the level was blocked off by white blocks, while I did not have the upgrade to dig through them, making me wait to die. When you have no upgrades, it becomes a guess at how much gold you're going to get, sometimes I got 3 gold before I was blocked, sometimes I got 2 gems, which makes a huge difference.

blackopsben 2021-04-28 15:09

The graphics and sound are great! Well done! I feel like I'm missing something though because no matter how well I think I'm going, I can barely grab the first coin before losing. It's WAY too fast. This has great potential to be incredible fun, but, unless I was missing a key mechanic, it's unplayable. Judging by other comments who seem to have made progress, I'm guessing there's something really important that I don't know.

hestrateja 2021-04-28 15:14

@twowolf very nice sound FX and art style, looks really polished for 48h in those aspects.

Game-wise there are a few things that I think need to be fixed in order to make this game feel better: -After a certain depth the procedural generation stops working and just repeats itsel until the end -Sometimes the camera lock and doesn't follow the character xAxis-wise -There is a bounce(?) that scales with the speed of the background that if you are digging down only, there will be a time that no matter what, you are going to lose because you bounce up so much you are out of the screen -The break stones buff should be repurchasable just like bombs. After the first time it doesn't replenish when dying -Jump digging is very awkward and basically unusable

Other than that, the game, as I said looks very polished, visual and sound wise. Good work and keep it up!

Very fun and cute game, especially the animations (Especially the jump animation)! On of the better soundtracks I've heard in this LD. Also I like how it is not just simple square textures but more like terraria tiles. Great entry!

sendnoose 2021-04-28 15:53

It's pretty fun, once you upgrade enough for the control to be tolerable. At first it was pretty cumbersome. I guess it's intentional. Good and cute pixel art. Somehow it reminds me too much of Yoshi's Island (favorite game!), actually the cave theme would fit perfectly in this game haha. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Overall it's pretty well made. Apart from the clunky control at the beginning and some visual artifacts. Love it. Would've been nice if it could be a bit longer but since it's a compo it's good enough. Also since this is probably your last game (I've read your profile). Just letting you know I wish you the best. You're gonna make a good dev. Hope you can find a fine team. God speed.

eugenik 2021-04-28 15:55

Art style is awesome! Very good game!.

milestone-games 2021-04-28 16:00

Fun game! The background music was great and I liked the pixel art! I struggled a bit to dig properly sometimes, eg only moving X and not X + Y at the same time. Great submission!

twowolf 2021-04-29 13:50

@sendnoose Hey I didn't think anyone would actually read profiles let alone mine. Yeah, I don't think I need an excuse to create a game anymore and the termination of Compo mode sort of discourages me to come back here. Maybe if I find a good collaborator someday I might come back, but right now I'd like to let this account to rest and move on to my newer adventures. Thank you, this means much to me more than you think.

It really does remind my of Yoshi's Island lol.

twowolf 2021-04-29 13:53

Thank you everyone else too for playing this game. I wish I could've given you a less buggier and more fast paced game experience but I suppose those are the limits of my abilities at the moment. (Not to mention I had the hardest time with game design this dare).

I had the most fun on this Ludum Dare and I hope you all become great game developers so please let me play your games in the real world one day. You can do it.

corbeng 2021-04-29 22:30

Very cute game! Love the concept, and the upgrade path feels good. Wasn't immediately clear how to play or open the shop. Also the controls would probably benefit from some input buffering, so you don't have to be holding the direction while you press space, and could have some leniency. Overall great work!

doot 2021-05-03 09:19

Nice game!

I love the art, your work is stunning for a compo! Music and sounds are nice too.

The game idea is good, and the controls feel quite intuitive. As other people said, balance could be better and there are a lot of bugs, but that can be expected for a compo game.

Thanks for the game, I had fun 💕
