LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Omelettes by stevenjmiller 2018-12-05T05:55:33Z

This is a spectacular puzzle game with very clever progression. The introduction of new ideas and "mechanics" is super well thought out and intuitive. The presentation of the game is excellent and the amount of levels and content is really impressive. One of my favorites that I've played so far. Fantastic job!

Blót by SalamiChild 2018-12-04T20:00:27Z

Nice game! The pixel art is excellent and it controls well. I liked the single screen levels and think it fit with the overall aesthetic. I wish there was some audio and a way to add to your timer (unless I missed it). Praying is also odd, where you can pray with the tap of a button for some, and others you have to hold it down. I had one run that was only two fight screens and about six or seven altar screens in a row, so it didn't feel like I really accomplished anything that playthrough, so either changing the "randomness" of the levels or adding a way to add time would make the game feel more enjoyable. Overall a solid game!

Cannibal Town by Woetnie 2018-12-04T19:19:58Z

Really interesting idea and I wish it was further fleshed out. Watching the minions have sex is hilarious. But I couldn't seem to progress very far because they never seemed to want to harvest the corpses.

FTD : Fixin' to Die by nuclearfriend 2018-12-05T20:06:59Z

Excellent in every regard. Fantastic sound design especially. Kudos to the voice actor. Gameplay was great and the progression made sense. My only gripe is that relying on RNG could get frustrating, specifically during Day 4 where things are already tense. And I'm not sure what was causing it, but every time I tried to use the sink, immediately before and after the sound clip played, there would be a very piercing, unintentional noise that made me not want to use the sink at all :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. I'm using a Mac and playing the Web version, if that helps at all. Incredible job!

Super Sellout by Moski 2018-12-05T05:23:10Z

What a beautifully polished game. This really sets the bar for what I need to try to achieve in future Ludum Dares. I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. Beautiful art assets and excellent presentation. I love the customizable gameplay; my only complaint is that the game doesn't seem to get that much more difficult even with all the contracts. I am blown away that this was created in just 72 hours. Phenomenal job!

Sacrifarm by martincohen 2018-12-04T15:47:57Z

I love the idea and it looks and plays great. The spritework is excellent and the music makes it even more fun to blast people away. I would have liked some variation (maybe another type of person that would anger the gods?). Overall, awesome job.

The Compleat Angler by Jesús González 2018-12-04T18:50:05Z

I missed the goal by $2 :laughing:

What an adorable game. I really loved the art and aesthetic of your game. The water effects and the subtle animations really added to the experience. The music is also super cute and pleasant and fits the relaxing mood of this game perfectly.

I would have enjoyed it a bit more if there was some more variety in the fish you could catch, specifically with the meter mini game. Regardless, I think you did an awesome job.

Sweet Tooth Scribbler by one-seed-fruit 2018-12-04T16:02:57Z

Pretty clever game. The art and sound effects/music are very charming. I appreciate the fact that you can actually read what is being written and even view the body after death.

Fallen Girl by fullmontis 2018-12-04T20:18:16Z

Really cute game with a great aesthetic. I liked the way that you have a choice of whether you want to lose an ability/stat, or take damage. I did realize that if you took damage going into a screen, then went back to the previous screen using the other exit (where you would have lost some of your eyesight, for example), you would still lose the ability, effectively making you sacrifice both things :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. Great job!

Magnibus by Ethan Allwood 2018-12-04T14:58:33Z

Hey there! Great job on the game.

The graphics are simple and lovely. The camera moves very smoothly and I really like how it behaves when you attack. I also really like how you can set off a chain of events by hitting objects into other ones to kill them. Defeating enemies feels great. The controls feel a little awkward at first but it only takes a couple minutes to adjust, and from there it's smooth sailing. Grabbing -> marking -> throwing -> teleporting is a really neat combination that I think can be explored deeper.

Some feedback: - Sometimes it's possible to get stuck in a corner with an enemy that will continuously walk into you and kill you. It's possible to right click out but the timing has to be perfect. Maybe add a couple frames of invulnerability after you take damage to prevent this? - Sometimes it feels like my attacks should be connecting even though they are not. Could be that the hurtbox is just slightly short of where it seems like I should be connecting. Or maybe have the hurtbox last for a couple frames longer? - I think I would have liked it if you could still move while grabbing an object to throw it. It could behave the same way as charging a punch (time slowed down). - The theme (sacrifice) doesn't seem to have much to do with actual gameplay, and instead gives the game more of an artificial difficulty.

Overall a really enjoyable and fun game with some solid mechanics in place that feel like they could be built upon to make something great!

Reap what you sow by ursagames 2018-12-04T21:13:12Z

I really like the PS1-style graphics and think you nailed that. However, the game itself is a little too slow and limiting for my liking. Your action meter depletes much too fast, to the point where you can't really do anything except the same things every day. The only padding to the play time is the fact that you have to run to each tool to pick them up and put them back down, which feels like it could use some streamlining. I do really like the flavor text in between days, which add some personality to the game. The music is also quite nice and fitting. Overall, a decent idea, but could have used a few more original mechanics.

STAR JUNK by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2018-12-05T20:28:17Z

Wow, what a wonderful game. I'm super impressed you were able to do all of this by yourself in only three days. The art, controls, music, everything is just really well done. I noted a couple strange things, like collision with the Space port didn't seem to trigger when I wanted it to sometimes, and it seemed like I couldn't buy more than one 1UP at a time. I really loved some of the smaller details, like the portrait of the pilot that you just shot down, and the fact that you can get other enemy ships to shoot things so you can reap the rewards. Spectacular job!

Keyboard Twister by Papercookies 2018-12-04T20:38:40Z

Love this! So much fun. Some of the combinations are impossible though :laughing:. This would make a great addition to some sort of party game. Love the graphics and the music. Great job!

Sacrificial Wool by WalterP 2018-12-04T16:11:18Z

Awesome idea and execution. I just wish there was more! Which I think, is the best thing you could ask for. Great job!

A Faithful Village by VengeurK 2018-12-04T19:33:03Z

Whoa, great game! I'm really impressed with what you were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. The voxel graphics are great and overall it looks fantastic. Smashing your town to pieces with meteors is awesome. At first, I wished there was a way to cancel buildings in progress, but then I realized that I could destroy them myself instead :smiling_imp:. I just really wish there was some audio in the game. It feels lacking without it. That would have made this game the total package. I'm still really impressed though. Great job!

Altar by Elnu 2018-12-05T04:21:45Z

Great game! Although I'm not sure if I'm missing something or doing something wrong, but there doesn't seem to be an end screen? I'm pretty sure I've slain all the spiders and filled all the altars and I'm sort of just wandering around aimlessly now. Despite that, I really like the graphics and setting. The light music in the background with the rain and thunder gives it a really nice ambiance. The spell effects are great too (especially #3!). My only suggestions would be a map of some sort to see where all the altars are located (I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where to deliver my spiders) and a way to make it more obvious what spiders are needed at each location. Awesome job!

Trashore Island by Baktillus 2018-12-04T15:16:16Z

Really, really adorable art style. I absolutely love the character's design. The music and sound effects are great as well.

Took me a minute to understand the rules, but when I did the game as a whole made a lot more sense. Although it didn't feel like I was actively working towards something, and there were no additionally introduced mechanics which made the game feel a little monotonous.

Thematically, it works very well (although is it really a sacrifice if you are just throwing away trash that is washing ashore :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

Great job, would have loved to see if fleshed out a bit more.

God's Thirst by Vlad Ilisan 2018-12-06T22:19:12Z

Great game! I had fun playing it. My high score was 27 :thumbsup:. It controls very nicely and you are definitely incentivized to use all of the moves at your disposal. I agree that perhaps the grab and throw button should have been the same button. One thing I really enjoyed was the fact that you can hit your opponent into the pit even if you haven't defeated them yet. That was a nice touch. The music is appropriate and really gets you in the mood to fight. I would have liked some more harder hitting sounds when you strike. It currently sounds like you're tapping forks against eachother instead of smashing armor :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. Having a power attack with an overhand strike could have been cool too but I understand that it would have been tough to implement due to time constraints. Overall, awesome job!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-04T15:37:13Z

@dry-squid Not sure if that's a good or bad thing :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Thanks for playing!

@martincohen Thanks so much!

@thunderkerrigan @vlad-ilisan @jkniest @ankan Thank you for playing! We really appreciate it!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-04T17:47:42Z

@jfraser314 Thanks for the feedback! I will keep that in mind going forward. Thanks so much!

@juan-hust-novella @tamas-turi Thank you!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-04T19:49:19Z

@one-seed-fruit Hahaha. You almost had me going there. Thanks for playing!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-04T20:04:46Z

@one-seed-fruit Thanks! @johara-dutton did a great job with the art assets. One of my favorite moments during development was the first time I knocked a toilet paper guy out :laughing:

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-05T03:49:27Z

@block97 Thanks for the feedback! A few things were planned but had to be scrapped to make the deadline, and unfortunately an HP bar was one of those things, which I'm now regretting. But we plan to make some QoL updates in the future, so this feedback is super helpful!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-05T19:34:37Z

@baktillus That is definitely one thing that I would like to address in a future update. Ideally we would have a cutscene before the actual gameplay starts to get the player acclimated with movement, throwing, and the objective. Thanks for playing!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-05T20:17:46Z

@codesity Thank you!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-05T23:27:59Z

@chaczyk Thanks! :smile:

@taco360 That is actually caused by a large object endlessly bouncing on a toilet paper enemy, haha. I'll be sure to have a fix for that in the future. Thanks for playing!

Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner 2018-12-06T22:03:51Z

@beats Thanks!

@arc1llusion @chrismcmath @jharler Hahaha, we definitely weren't (consciously) going for an Earthbound vibe but I will definitely take that since Earhtbound is my favorite game :laughing:. Thank you for your feedback about the buttons. I originally had pick up and throw as the same button but it would make throwing difficult if you were on top of another item. I think part of the issue is that it's not clear how many items you can pick up at a time since it is weight based and there is no indication of how heavy an item is. I will definitely look further into how I can improve the controls for the future. Thanks so much for playing!

LD44 — Your life is currency

This is your life now by reuno 2019-05-01T15:58:57Z

Absolutely love the character design and presentation. Very sleek and adorable. My main gripes were that the music could have used some variation between levels and perhaps some of the events are a little too cynical/nihilistic, which go against the adorable presentation, although maybe that was on purpose? :shrug:

Are any events random, or is it all scripted? I died with "a rebel attitude, travel memories, my partner, my kid, freedom, and inner peace" and it says that I could have done better, but honestly that sounds pretty great to me. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Great job!

Dead Frog Tell No Tales by pixelstuff 2019-04-30T17:57:36Z

Really wonderfully presented game. You really knocked it out of the park when it comes to the character designs and animations. The concept is very interesting as well. My complaint is that there is not much strategy to the game; you can just pick whatever cards are available as long as they are not subtracting from either value. Then on the last level, just do that and pray that minus cards don't come up. Might have been better if there was a punishment for going beyond what the person prefers, and if there was a way to swap cards somehow. Overall, it felt very polished and I'm very impressed with how excellent it looks. Awesome job!

Coin-Op Kid by Strega 2019-04-30T04:04:13Z

So good!! Great, super charming game. Loved the character design and the animations were really polished and beautiful. Excellent music and really smart puzzle design. Fantastic job!

Knock Knock... The travelling soulsman by Angry Squirrels 2019-04-30T14:24:31Z

The scope of this game is super impressive. The amount and quality of art and writing is unparalleled. And a very clever, unique idea in a sea of uninspired action games. Excellent job!

Don't Die, Dumpstercat! by Trifectuh 2019-05-01T15:46:26Z

Cute game, love the idea to use PICO-8 as your engine, which I haven't seen for an entry yet. The game is a little too simplistic and easy, but the mechanics and presentation are solid. It's a good foundation for a larger game with more levels and balanced gameplay. Great job!

Coin Up! by egawag 2019-04-30T03:56:23Z

I love this so much. It's so wonderfully charming. The music is so good and the sound effects are hilarious. Stellar incredible machine-type puzzle game. Amazing job.

Reaper's Keeper by chelC 2019-04-30T03:35:16Z

Really spectacular job. The presentation here is so beautiful, it looks like a legitimately released game. Seriously, the art is just so good. Great, simple gameplay and a solid hook make this game very impressive.

Tanemaki by Wyatt 2019-04-30T03:24:15Z

Really impressive and adorable game that seems like it would be great to relax to. My only complaint is the sound of rolling was a bit repetitive. Love the seeds so much.

Moneyons! by Maytch 2019-04-30T19:07:32Z

Really cute game. The theme seems a bit forced though. I'm also not sure how I feel about the possessed voices :stuck_out_tongue:. But I did really enjoy the puzzle design and the art. Great job!

The 7 Cents Deal by Probe31 2019-04-30T14:10:29Z

Holy moly the art in this game is just incredible. So cute and charming. The music and sounds are perfect as well. I did notice that in some instances, clicking on bells to give as change would not visibly display them in the change bowl, but would still count towards the total (on Mac). But aside from that, the game is absolutely wonderful.

PunCha-Ching Bag by Ryan Brenner 2019-04-30T03:39:37Z

@scalphamission Thank you! I had a lot of fun making it.

@youpeoples @rosypenguin Thank you for playing! I think I might have made the game a taaaad bit too difficult. But I also think it's really funny when you get completely surrounded and beaten by a circle of ~~children~~ adults.

@egawag Thank you so much! I'm not an artist but I'm really happy with how the graphics came out :smiley:

PunCha-Ching Bag by Ryan Brenner 2019-04-30T04:16:15Z

@rosypenguin @dannn Thank you for playing! More speed sounds like a good plan. This also helps to give me a better idea to control how far the coins fly and how fast the enemies start coming.

@dan-colman Thank you!

PunCha-Ching Bag by Ryan Brenner 2019-04-30T15:03:28Z

@oku @angry-squirrels Thank you! Means a lot coming from both of you, as you both have wonderfully crafted games. Originally, the game was going to be score based, rather than having a win condition, but now I think that I should have just added both.

@arimie Thanks for playing!

PunCha-Ching Bag by Ryan Brenner 2019-04-30T16:35:49Z

@drearyplane8 Thanks for playing! I actually had blocking very early on but decided to remove it. If I were to work on the game some more, I would consider re-adding it, and maybe a parry system as well :thinking:

@twowolf Thanks so much!

PunCha-Ching Bag by Ryan Brenner 2019-05-01T05:18:16Z

@nayrahbbt @z0rlog @jkazuk @megan-kozun @macs

Thank you all so much for the feedback. It's greatly appreciated. Next time I will make sure to try to balance the difficulty better :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Thanks for playing!

Blood Quest by shaner421 2019-04-30T13:44:15Z

Really cool game. Plays well and I appreciate the 8 directional sprite animations. Solid music and fun, boss-rush gameplay. Great job!

Life for Likes by FM Studio 2019-04-30T17:35:20Z

Really clever concept that is executed very well. Great pixel art and music. Scoring seemed a little inconsistent, but the gameplay made up for it. Awesome job!

MeatScape by Lvl99Chicken 2019-04-30T04:32:50Z

Very meaty. I love the creativity. Sound effects are as great as the scenery is disgusting. I just wish there was some more variety to it. Great job!

The Aging Soul by bigwhiteshogun 2019-04-30T04:26:56Z

Really clever gameplay but a little too punishing for messing up. Great graphics and atmosphere, and music as well. Great job!

utsvulten by ditto 2019-04-30T04:39:09Z

Are video games art? Absolutely.

Tales of Haroldo! by iagorigel 2019-04-30T13:53:35Z

Neat idea. Great job with the art and sound. I wish it was clearer how upgrading affected you. Also a bit difficult to play on the page unless you're fullscreen (page scrolls when you use the arrow keys to move), but I don't know if that's a bug or a fault with Construct.

Super Epic Insurance Fraud 3000 by Nigogo 2019-04-30T03:17:20Z

Really fun game! I loved watching the character fly when he got completely smashed by a car. Combos would have been really cool, along with maybe more of a punishment if you got hit by a cop car. I also think some sound would have done wonders. Great job!

Heartreasure by nettaigyo 2019-04-30T04:18:38Z

I actually got off my PC and onto my Mac just to give this game a try. The art style and character design is just amazing. So, so adorable. I just wish there was some more sound to the game, besides the piano bit.
