The drawings cracked me up, shame you couldn't finish it. Also, somehow you still draw better than me...

diaonic 2019-10-07 01:18

I really enjoyed the intro, giving you max stars for mood. Shame you couldn't of finished it. You had this captivating feel, inside the truck cracked me up :D

svyatozar 2019-10-07 01:32

Indeed, I will see if I can add some gameplay by the Jam's deadline...

ixchow 2019-10-07 02:08

I tend to feel that -- from a design perspective -- unskippable cut-scenes are best avoided. They are most effective as player punishment, and if you need to punish the player, perhaps something has gone wrong with the game already.

That said, I was about to be very impressed with an LD compo game that had an actual intro!

justuspan 2019-10-07 06:10

Although it hasn't been finished, I think the beginning of the game is interesting and the violin sound make the atomsphere attractive! Hope you can finish it next time!

geoff-nagy 2019-10-07 06:52

The intro was really great and made me chuckle. I would love to see this developed further. Keep it up!

rolly 2019-10-07 09:54

I was so hyped by the intro (even with that drawings; "as long as we understand what it is..."), it's so sad you couldn't get any gameplay. Please notify me if you add some, I'd like to see a little more.

Music was very nice.

yayiest 2019-10-07 11:47

The intro was amazing, I loved the spinning camera with the music. I hope you finish the gameplay, I would love to play it.

K, this is now the Jam version, with some gameplay: you can build houses, plant trees. Take a note though, that while trees give food, they also consume lots of water.

Very cool concept. Great execution on the basics of a sim game. Has a lot of potential going forward. Thanks for bringing it by the stream!

@pedromgdo @diaonic @ixchow @justuspan @geoff-nagy @rolly I did add some gameplay, not too much, but still...

Finally i can live my dream of owning an avocado plantation

svyatozar 2019-10-08 02:07

@eog Haha, have your fun while you can! Demo version allows the water storage to go negative, but the paid version will not have this luxury!

2019-10-09 02:33

Yes, nice little proof of concept. I'm getting 3 trees and 4 houses is stable on water with the other resources growing, so if we want them all growing, maxxing pop, it's 2 trees and x houses. I get 5, leaving a 1 increment on food.

I can't see any effect at all to anything else, nor have I really waited too long for some resource to hit a threshold like the delivery guy to do something.

But the graphics are crisp, and then you can just do whatever you like with the engine shell.

svyatozar 2019-10-09 03:03

@taophoenix Yes, that is all there is to it. It's my first attempt at trying to make a city builder. Of course, I was inspired by CimCity and Caesar4, and I kinda knew that balancing the economy will take months for sure. But in the process, I learned a lot about limitations of Godot3.1 engine, and how much time it takes to come up with a basic UI. Besides, it's the first time I wrote my own music for game! So, in the end this is a priceless experience! People enroll in workshops, take university courses, pay thousands of dollars to dive into a creative tide. But this competition gives you all that for free! Minus some lectures, but Youtube is full of lectures! You just need to believe in yourself and give it a try. I'm very excited about the process, even if the result does not look like much: what I learned in the process is what counts for me the most. And, of course, the fabulous reviews and suggestions from this fantastic community of fine developers, which is absolutely priceless!

Long Live Ludum Dare!

P.S.: Thanks a lot for "crisp graphics"! I certainly didn't expect to hear that.

Lol those graphics. Good effort, at least! Not sure exactly how the numbers are affected by your choices, but I like the concept even if it was a bit confusing. Not too bad for a compo entry!

snufkinshat 2019-10-09 10:53

Nice! I would have loved to see little animated people walking around as the population expanded. Great job!

jake-marks 2019-10-09 16:44

Nice starting point for a cool city builder! Really reminds me of the old flash games days in art style and gameplay. Here is a playthrough video if you are interested.

Nice game! I noticed the sound bugged out sometimes, and at one point my water count reached something like -50.000, yet I faced zero consequences... at least none I could pinpoint. Well, aside from that, this could become a pretty promising city builder with just a tad bit more love and care!
