Such a lovely looking platformer. Giving me Lion King feels.

joseph-yannessa 2019-10-08 02:59

Was not prepared for that backstory  The platforming feels really fluid, never moved somewhere I wasn't planning to

seabird 2019-10-08 03:03

Interesting story. Cool graphics and music.

theomaniacal 2019-10-08 03:09

Cute art! I liked the parallaxed hills.

mmason 2019-10-08 03:33

It was a nice game but a little repetitive, I got stuck in the ground after falling too far. very pretty art and great music.

designernap 2019-10-08 09:56

This looks really nice and I appreciate the amount of work that went into the animation, parallax and writing. However there is a LOT of text to read before you are allowed to play the game and that is sort of frustrating for the player. I also found that the speech boxes were often off the screen and I had to jump to see them. Nice entry though! good work

rams3160 2019-10-08 14:45

@adliberum Thank you for your comment! As soon as our artist gave us the mock ups I had the same feeling. I had very nostalgic feelings of playing Lion King on SNES

rams3160 2019-10-08 14:47

@joseph-yannessa We gained a new story and visual artist this Jam so we really wanted to highlight their skills trying out a story driven platformer! Thanks for your feedback!

rams3160 2019-10-08 14:48

@seabird Thank you for the kind words! We are really proud of this one! Its our first no-compromises submission to the Jam!

rams3160 2019-10-08 14:49

@mmason Thank you for the feedback! We had a few other mechanic ideas that I think would help combat the repetitiveness, maybe we can get those implemented at a later date and post an update!

rams3160 2019-10-08 14:51

@designernap Thanks for your feedback! I understand your feelings completely. We really wanted to try a story driven approach to highlight our new team memeber's skills. While not as polished we took some influence from games like Ori, Celeste, Dead Cells, etc...

michal 2019-10-08 19:27

SO SO SO beautiful game !!

crochar 2019-10-08 19:38

Very beautiful game, I agree with some of the past comments. I feel the story at the start could be done differently or maybe optional. Very cool anyways, keep it up!

rayne 2019-10-08 19:45

I loved the art! Pretty little game

revx 2019-10-08 19:48

Very beautiful but the frame rate was low and felt like the character didn't move fast enough (mice scurry!) - would love to see it speed up a bit. Otherwise, nicely done!

rams3160 2019-10-08 20:05

@michal Thank you for the play and comment! We're glad you enjoyed it!

rams3160 2019-10-08 20:06

@crochar thank you for the valuable feedback, we have a few ideas to help combat those issues!

rams3160 2019-10-08 20:06

@rayne Thank you for the play! Glad you enjoyed it

rams3160 2019-10-08 20:07

@revx we will check out the frame-rate issues right away, we almost sped Osage up be we liked how the slow speed gave a sense of being so small. Thank you for your feedback!

emmatw 2019-10-08 20:12

Amazing graphics and scenery, I loved the audio as well! The movement felt just a little bit unresponsive at times, but other than that it felt really well polished! Well done!

shabbyrtist 2019-10-08 21:26

the game is slow. The movement is sometimes jerky. Play is boring and tedious. The dialogs are not synchronized in time. Black stripes sometimes appear in the background. Graphics, especially in the forest, has a white stroke, as if cut from paint. A lot of work, but it was possible to achieve better quality

rams3160 2019-10-08 22:05

@emmatw Thank you feedback! we're glad you enjoyed it! Were working out some movement tweeks so id love to hear more about your specific movement issues!

rams3160 2019-10-08 22:10

@shabbyrtist Thank you for your feedback. Sorry the gameplay isn't what suits your fancy, but were quite happy with it. As for the rest, we can not recreate the issues you described, perhaps its OpenGL issues? Hopefully we'll be able to recreate them ourselves so we can address them. Our art is all original and created by a very talented artist, we can assure you it was not cut from paint. Thanks for your play!

cybikitty 2019-10-08 22:16

This is such a cute game! I love the artwork and the animations so much, and a really satisfying platformer! :)

rams3160 2019-10-08 22:40

@cybikitty thank you for your play-through! Were glad you enjoyed it!

maaya 2019-10-08 22:47

Awww what a cute game, that mouse is adorable! ♥ enjoyable gameplay, though i found it a bit frustrating how slowly you move haha

rams3160 2019-10-09 04:45

@maaya thank you for your feedback! I’m glad you liked our character! The speed issue seems to be a recurring feedback item, we may do a rebuild to improve that!

redmountainman1 2019-10-09 14:46

I loved the mouse animation, but the walking speed felt just a bit slow. Great and fun game / narrative!

jonas-michael 2019-10-09 15:14

A really beautiful game you made. The text at the beginning was scrolling by too fast and I wasn't able to read all of it... And I felt like it got repetitive very fast. Maybe the game was lacking some "enemies" of some sort? Still I had fun with the game :D

rams3160 2019-10-09 15:23

@redmountainman1 Thank you for your feedback! Were working to address the walk speed!

rams3160 2019-10-09 15:26

@jonas-michael Thank you for your feedback! We agree the scroll speed is a little too fast, we were trying to prevent users from having to sit too long prior to play. We had some ideas for enemies but it fell outside of the scope of 72 hours! we will update you if we get a new build in the future including enemies! We also have other ideas to make the platforming more difficult and less repetitive

cincerteri 2019-10-09 15:33

The graphics and sound are great. The gameplay was a bit slow paced and tedious, but I still enjoyed the story.

nikita-lozhkin 2019-10-09 15:53

Beautiful game, but has some critical bugs - i was twice to stuck in colliders (left side of the starting position and left side during a dialogue with a big mouse)

goldenevolution 2019-10-09 16:02

Beautiful game. I felt a tad bit too slow though, if you would fall down, the process of getting back to where you fell down felt tedious. Also the parallaxing in the frontground can get in the way sometimes. With parallaxing it's the best if you keep the layer where you can walk on in high quality, and the further the objects are away from the main layer, the blurrier they get. So the ones in the frontground should also be more blurry that the initial layer you walk on. I can definitely see the work that went into making all the art though, which is super nice!

rams3160 2019-10-09 16:19

@cincerteri Thank you for your feedback! We are actively discussing the pace!

rams3160 2019-10-09 16:20

@nikita-lozhkin Thank you for your constructive feedback! We will look into these specific colliders right away. We really appreciate you pointing us to the exact issues.

rams3160 2019-10-09 16:22

@goldenevolution Thank you for the constructive feedback. The idea of blurring the front parallax is a good idea and something we hadn't considered. We're glad you appreciate the effort! Were working on the pacing and have some ideas to combat tedious elements

daria-toni 2019-10-09 17:13

I definately like the world of this game and art. It's great that there're different locations and music. I'd like the process to be a bit more upbeat. And there're some visual bugs, but not critically (for example on level 2 you can go left and see the end of the world:) )

rams3160 2019-10-09 18:32

@daria-toni Thank you for your feedback! There is supposed to be an invisible wall on each level, we will definitely be looking into that issues!

2019-10-09 20:04

I could play for hours ... You have a nice and sophisticated graphism, an original story and beautiful songs ! Great job !

rams3160 2019-10-09 20:43

@farrahchkb Thank you for the kind words! Knowing people are enjoying our hard work makes this even more rewarding!

thecritterscove 2019-10-10 02:24

@rams3160 I also see the white edging issue that @shabbyrtist mentioned, but it has nothing to do with the art quality. I'm not familiar with Unity, but there probably is some kind of 'interpolate' setting that can smooth the pixels between images.

Ignoring the above issue, the art is very cute and clean looking. There's also a nice mood/vibe going on. The mouse running animation seems slow, though the absurd upward jumping angle is funny. The parallaxing effect is neat, but to me seems like it's moving the background/foreground a bit too fast. As others have mentioned, the beginning is very word heavy. I'm also not sure that's the easiest background to read yellow text off of. Might depend on monitor. Simple visuals to break up the text could help, but I'm sure time was an issue.

The platformer mechanics are unfortunately kind of dry. I didn't feel inclined to finish the forest level, as that meant I'd need to climb all the way back up the trees. Maybe the character is a bit slow relative to the size of the map? Maybe there needs to be moving or more unique obstacles? Some platformers also tend to guide players through levels with rather deliberate and consistent trails of things to collect.

I think your group was very ambitious with the storytelling and mood of this game, just fell a bit short on tweaking some of the mechanics. It could be a good start to making a bigger game.

catie-jo 2019-10-10 12:40

Very cute game! Something about the jumping mechanic feels a bit strange--I kept trying to get a running start for longer jumps, but it didn't seem to help much and I kept falling off the platforms. I really love the art style and how cohesive it is, though! Nice work!

rams3160 2019-10-10 15:57

@thecritterscove Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your targeted criticism.

We have been able to isolate the issue and it is in fact where to assets meet. We think there is some interpolation that could help this is a great suggestion, some forums have also described similar issues due to OpenGL rendering so were doing some more research to find the right fix.

As mentioned in previous replies we will be addressing the slowness, we were hoping that the slower speed would add to "feeling small" but in hindsight that doesn't seem to be the case.

We played with various parallaxing speeds and ultimate shipped the ones we had, with some reluctance. We'll definitely be revising this as well.

The text color and presentation was also something we couldn't quite nail down. We agree the text can be hard to read but ultimately went with a cohesive color. We'll be revising the presentation and color as well.

Lastly, due to the 72 hour timeline we did not get to implement all of our visions. We had other characters in mind, other platforming mechanics, and enemies. Think of this as a great launching point, but we were focused on releasing a full miniature game. We're aware it may not be everyone's cup of tea but we're glad we made the decision to release something that has a clear beginning middle and end, albeit some mechanics were sacrificed.

This is only our third ludum dare and were making great strides in picking manageable ideas so stay tuned next time we're sure well have an even better grip on what we can accomplish in 72 hours.

We will be readdressing and rebuilding the game after the Jam so we don't violate any rules, so if you have any interest in the updates be sure to check back on the page!

Thanks again for your play-through!

rams3160 2019-10-10 15:58

@catie-jo Thank you for your feedback!

We're glad you enjoyed the game and art. We really wanted to highlight those skills this Jam. We were constantly reworking and toying with the physics and we agree its not 100%. Check back for updates after the compo for our answer to these recurring items!

snufkinshat 2019-10-10 21:49

Lovely little game. If I could make a couple of minor suggestions -- it felt weird to me to be in the 'middle' of a platform instead of at the top. Also there were a couple of places where if you missed a jump there was significant backtracking. Overall -- charming and beautiful game.

zubspace 2019-10-12 20:25

Nice, relaxing platformer! I like that the platforms are not simple blocks, but drawn sprites on which the mouse moves along nicely.

I would increase the run speed and I also allow the player to continue without collecting all acorns and droplets. Had to look for a missing item for ages. The level design could be made a bit more interesting, with a clearer path where to go next and maybe some sections which are more difficult or dangerous.

rams3160 2019-10-14 16:49

@snufkinshat Thank you for your feedback! We were hoping to achieve a sense of depth by placing the played in the middle of the platform, but its missing a foreground texture to really give that sense, something wed love to implement in the future. Thanks for you play-through!

rams3160 2019-10-14 16:50

@zubspace Thank you for your feedback! We really wanted to show off our artists skills so we went with sprites for the platforms instead of blocks, glad you appreciated the highlight! We will definitely be addressing the run speed in the future, and we hope to give the levels some more flair and clear path indicators!

tvle83 2019-10-15 16:48

@zubspace Acorns are not required, we probably didn't make that clear enough. The droplets (Tears of Cybele) were required because of the story and there were less of them.

johnnysix 2019-10-19 21:52

Beautiful art in places, but the movement felt really slow. Some enemies would be cool too.

ld45_db-053.jpg

codekoto 2019-10-24 16:30

The game looks quite good, i loved the art style.

However it was a bit confusing what the purpose of the gameplay was, i as collecting acorns and droplets but that was about it, the platformer wasn't that fun neither was the collecting.

Good job overall though! I am sure you will do even better next time.

catusfelony 2019-10-24 17:05

Really pretty, the mouse is sooo cute! I couldn't get very far though, I don't enjoy hunting down collectibles and when I got to the tree trunks with a few collectibles short and it didn't let me through, I quit since I couldn't find the few remaining ones after backtracking twice and the player character is so slow.

Pretty solid though, and the screenshots show that there's a lot more pretty landscapes to see.

finlal 2019-10-27 02:47

Very cute and well-design game :з

virimine 2019-10-27 12:52

The concept of the game is beautiful! Text at some points was too big and almost impossible for me to read (probably because I am not a native speaker). Maybe adding a button to "continue" to the "next text" could make it easier to follow. :) I feel that walking was a bit slower than it should and I believe it's because the mouse's animation is more like "run" while it should "walk" instead. Regarding the graphics, there were some problems with animations but what really got me was the fact that the graphics had outlines and the "merging" was very visible... I liked the mushroom :') and the fact that you added "ending" elements :D I feel that it could be very big and doesn't exactly fit the short time of production of a gamejam. With a little bit more time to it I believe it will become a very interesting game :)

narudgi 2019-10-28 20:33

Haha cute game, but I feel so slow and this is not very fun because the purpose is not clear, what's the point of collecting ? Is it just for the lore ?

Good job overall
