Pretty funny. I liked the idea of adding more and more ridiculous features to the game. I would've enjoyed it a lot more had I not fallen into the pit early on with no way out (at least none that I could find). Nice work!

ratbird 2017-12-05 21:21

Funny. Nice game, thanks.

windburn1 2017-12-05 21:32

I fell in a cave and couldn't get out... but the game was funny and quite a neat idea

jamioflan 2017-12-05 21:33

I liked the idea, but got stuck in the pit after walking left and couldn't really do much from then on

elendow 2017-12-05 21:34

In the first run I've fell in the pit and everything I got adding features was really pointless. After that I played again and enjoyed every new feature. Maybe you should remove that pit.

eriklez92 2017-12-05 21:44

Very cool idea! And the game is gorgeous and pretty funny! But like others before I fell into the cave and hoped for a jetpack feauture to unlock XD

ponchoguy 2017-12-05 21:47

Interesting game, nicely tailored to the theme and very funny

Same problem as @elendow with falling in the pit

Game can be expanded in many ways with a theme as broad as feature creep :yum:

Great job, very humerous and very fun to play!

elemel 2017-12-05 21:51

Really funny! Like everyone else, I fell into a pit early on but still enjoyed the "game" a lot. How about a wings powerup to escape pits?

egor 2017-12-05 21:52

"This is how I like it" Thanks really fun!

soerensen3 2017-12-05 21:58

Same with me, i have also fallen into the pit :(. All in all a nice game but the controls are a bit hacky, at least for the web version (I didn't try the other)

juri 2017-12-05 22:00

I like the idea. However going down into the left pit early on basically meant I was stuck in a very limited area for a long time... with not really much happening. The graphics were very good though i thought.

ollec 2017-12-05 22:05

I'm really torn on this game, I love your idea of building the game from the ground up, until eventually it gets out of hand. The narrator and main characters interactions are quite funny and I enjoy the humor, setting and mood of this game quite a bit. The art is also great. Simple, fitting, and expressive. Maybe the UI could use a little make over, but whatever.

Now, that said, my actual gameplay experience was mediocre. The first time I played I tried to jump over the hole in the ground to the right, fell into the cave and was stuck. I tried jumping my way out of there, but that didn't seem to work, I tried adding features but none seemed to help. With the knowledge from my second time playing the triple jump probably would have worked had I made it til there. I don't know if it's just a porting error when building for WebGL or if it's your canvas scaler that bugged out but it seems like part of the UI is out of the camera as you can see in this picture:

creep.PNG

Other than that I could not pick up the golden key collectible, the triple jump only worked the first time I tried it out and I still could not find a way past the ledges. Without much to do but add features I couldn't see or use because they're not in the camera I chose to stop playing. My only explanations are that either the game is bugged, or I just quit too soon, to my tip would be to either fix the bugs that hinder progress or make that part of the game shorter, so the player feels like he's actually progressing, even if just a little.

I really, honestly like ideas and presentation of this game, so I'm quite sad that my actual time with hasn't been that great. Your next step should be to iron out any bugs, have the game playtested a lot by friends and family and eventually make changes according to their feedback. Add a little bit more polishing to it and you'll have a game you could monetize.

At least that's my humble opinion. :)

brotherst 2017-12-05 22:19

As with the others, I fell in the pit and couldn't really do much with my features. Perhaps add more things to do with the features themselves. I really liked the concept though!

tinykidtoo 2017-12-06 01:01

Love the jokes in this. But I kept falling into the hole with no way to get out.

gruhh 2017-12-07 00:26

I liked the concept of the game, simple and well developed! Congratulations!

Gostei do conceito do jogo, simples e bem desenvolvido! Parabéns! :flag_br:

elemental-zeal-game-studios 2017-12-07 01:21

Great take on the theme! The response to “This is how I like it” made me laugh out loud. Great job!

shivur 2017-12-07 03:47

Very good game!

detectivelosos 2017-12-07 10:16

I added the crash feature! What a perfect way to end the game! https://www.dropbox.com/s/f98tvyijgbql7cs/FeatureCreep.PNG?dl=0

Nice interpretation of a theme. Pretty funny writing. And I actually liked stereo sound in the begining as my character walked left and right.

As for the bad things I found it a little (in some parts a lot) frustrating that my character had a jump meter. I fell down the pit, tried to jump my way back to the surface but kept falling from the platforms as my jump meter was empty and jump controls were not very responsive. As I said, writing was pretty funny, but I kept missing some phrases because I had to read new feature description text and narrator speach simultaneously. And one more thing, I killed all the enemies right at the beginning and had nothing to do in the background while adding new features and reading the narrator speach. I think, it would be more engaging if there was such feature as enemy respawn.

Otherwise cool little game with nice visuals and good spin on a theme.

liquidream 2017-12-07 13:14

Brilliant - had to play it all the way to the (totally avoidable) end! It's funny, looks and sounds great, bang-on theme. Here, have yourself a perfect score! :D

idinakloppstock 2017-12-07 13:38

Really a very good contribution, I had a lot of fun while playing the game. Great!

sozey 2017-12-07 16:20

I love this game! It's really fun to add features and also allows to gradually increase the difficulty without having to learn all the controls at the same time. The art is nice and the music as well. Also the sounds (like the sword whizz or the footsteps) are of good quality. Humour is on point.

tolmera 2017-12-07 17:28

It was fun to a point. Kinda feels like something I would point someone to when they say 'Hey you can program, could you do X' Then have them play this so they know, Oh.. health isn't just built in. And oh, deaths not built in either!

Overall, I like the game :) I would love to see it expanded on!

blakemcdeezy 2017-12-07 17:37

Haha, that was cool! It was original, it was fun! I am also one of the people that fell victim to the pit...

sawtan 2017-12-07 21:37

Hehe I gave this game my full attention, right down to the fatal error! It was a great story and fun times to give the narrator some obscene answers! The graphics are neat and the theme got covered really nice! Great work on this one! Cheerz!

cosmic-adventure-squad 2017-12-08 07:47

Played through the whole game and have to say, I loved the concept and execution, and there were so many laugh-out-loud moments! There were a lot of features and I can see that a lot of time and love was poured into making the game.

Some quality-of-life improvements that could have helped with more enjoyment would be to have the narrator text and achievement text a little more out of the way, as they blocked a lot of the screen. Some more feedback would be helpful too-- I spent a long time wondering why I couldn't jump half the time and some sound feedback would help.

Also, I was stuck in the same pit that everyone else mentioned, and I realized that the art above the pit made it look like you can jump over it, when in reality there was an invisible wall on the other side. Hope that helps!

robotsandmuffins 2017-12-08 10:42

Great theme adaptation! Also, narrator conversation is funny and very innovative. I felt into one of the holes and I coundn't get out. Looks like collisions are a little bit off. But, overall, is a great entry!

amalia 2017-12-08 11:22

Really fun! I really enjoy this game !

moski 2017-12-08 23:22

I believe that @jorgegamedev already told you about my experience with this game. Fun, interesting concept, great visuals, horrendous game-ruining pits. From the comments, it seems that I wasn't the only one. What a shame. Regardless, it was a very creative idea overall.

After 3 playthroughs (third once I was pushed into the pit and I just ragequitted), I'm marveled at what you managed to accomplish with this game, and still somewhat bitter because of how many people are not enjoying the game to the extent to which you designed it. Live and learn, I guess. Keep up the good work!

blizary 2017-12-08 23:43

Hi everyone we would like to above all thank you deeply for all the nice and productive comments that you gave over this last few days. To be honest we never expected so many people to try our little game so thank you =). Before we get into personal answer we would just like to say we are sorry about the pit xD we are seeing all of you getting stuck in there and trust us we made notes to fix it in future iterations of the game either by removing it or giving some feature that would allow the player to easily escape the horrible pit of doom and terror =P.

@ratbird thank you so much for trying the game out and glad to know you found it funny we did try very hard to make it so =P

@windburn1 you were the 1st of many victims of the pit and again we are sorry but thanks for giving the game a try

@jamioflan one more victim, we do really swear we are going to fix this in future iterations

@elendow thank you so much for not only trying it but mostly for not letting the horrible pit totally destroy your experience we really do appreciate that you gave the game another try and found it enjoyable.

@eriklez92 jetpack feature sounds like it could be pretty fun and thank you, you make us artists all happy for saying the game is gorgeous ; 3

@PonchoGuy Thank you for trying the game and above all finding it funny we aren’t sure if we want to expand the game or not we are waiting to listen to more feedback of people to understand if it is truly worth it or if just finishing the problems it currently has would be enough. P.S do you even realize who we are mister poncho? We miss yah hope you are doing oki =P

@elemel Pat pat one more victim of the horrible pit pat pat, we are sorry. We will definitely add a feature or something to fix this unbeatable “boss” of ours in the future. Thank you for trying and commenting =D

@egor ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) we know it’s true, thank you for playing.

@soerensen3 unfortunately it’s not only in the web versions. The controls are definitely something we have to improve in the future thank you for the useful feedback =).

blizary 2017-12-08 23:43

@Ollec I would like to start by saying thank you for taking the time to write such a detail comment on your experience it help us to understand how the game actually feels to others and you pointed out a number of bugs that we weren’t aware, and that we fix lighting fax =P. Aside from that we are sad that your experience wasn’t as good as we wish but we do understand that with all the problems present at the time it was the best possible experience and thank you for trying to play the game two times. We also intend to take your advice and playtest this much more in order to understand what we can improve to make the overall experience better =).

@brotherst we do intend to add more use to the features already implemented for example make the enemies respawn over time so there is always something to shoot at, or even give them some variety that would be cool yah? Sorry that you fell prey to the pit monster and thank you for playing and commenting =D.

@tinykidtoo Sorry about the horrible pit again xD there isn’t much more I can say that hasn’t already been said but again we are going to fix that we promise.

@gruhh thank you so much for your kind words we really do like to know that you liked it.P.S Adorei o vosso jogo podemos tambem ter chapeus no nosso ? =P

@elemental-zeal-game-studios bahahah thank you so much and we did try hard with the faces (´・ω・`)

@shivur Thank you :3

@detectivelosos Thank you for the really useful feedback about the jump we are considering removing the bar related to the jump or at least doing something about it as you were not the only person complaining about this and we do understand that jump is a really satisfying thing to do in video games =P. We also intend to implement respawn timers on the enemies so you do run out of them and last but not least we are going to try to make the controls more responsive as well. So thank you for your feedback it help us understand the changes we need to implement in the future =)

@liquidream daaaamn thank you so much you make us blush or something with this comment (*≧∀≦*)

@idinakloppstock we are really glad to know you had fun and thanks for letting us know of that it helps allot.

@sozey Thank you I think with such a nice praise to the sound you may make our sound creator faint or something. Glad to know your found it funny and had a good time playing =)

blizary 2017-12-08 23:44

@tolmera bhahahhaa good point and good idea…we should totes use our game for that now that I think about it …. Anyhow thank you and we probably will expand it =).

@blakemcdeezy one moment of silence for our lost friend that was taken by the horrible monster that shall not be named……………………………………………………………………Thank you for playing =P

@sawtan xD thank you, glad you had a good laugh out of it that was the all idea =3

@cosmic-adventure-squad Thank you for the useful feedback. We will definitely add to the list of improvements to do a visual/listening queue for when the player tries to use something that they no longer have resources for, an example would be jumping when there is no energy left, we didn’t really think about this when we created the game but it is an extremely useful idea. About the invisible walls we do intend to fix that too in the future we believe the all collision boxes of the map need fixing but thank you for pointing it out.

@robotsandmuffins yah the damn pit is killing us inside too fear not you are not alone and yes the collisions do need some rework but thank you and sorry about the damn pit XD

@amalia thaaaaaank you so much (∩_∩)

blizary 2017-12-08 23:45

@moski for starts thanks for giving it so many tries and your rage quit is totes understandable. @jorgegamedev may have told the rest of your opinion but i personally didn’t know so I’m glad to see your comment here =). On another note….yah that pit…I swear…its killing me very much xD but just like you said live and learn. Again thx for the kind words and if I may, amazing job on your own work, as usual, didn’t expect anything else from you =). P.S where is our tiny whale at the end of the comment hmmmmmmm….sad me is sad ;(

moski 2017-12-09 00:28

Alright, so, I talked with @jorgegamedev, and decided to play this game's updated version 2 more times. One to play it as you intended, and one to purposely find something to break the game, as to see the limits of bugfixing, QoL changes and polish, since some people here (me included) can be a bit sensitive when it comes to playing post-jam fixed games.

So, **in the updated version of the game**, I managed to play my first playthrough from start to end. It was fantastic and went so over-the-top with its features. I hadn't even noticed how ridiculous it looked with so many bars until the game noted it. By halfway there, it was brimming with so many pointless attacks, upgrades and collectibles that I was smirking like a fool. Nothing beats the Naked Giant Man upgrade.

FeatureCreep_2017-12-08_19-11-03.png

On my other run, I went to the pit to the left on the first opportunity. I'm glad to see that:

A) It's no longer pointless

B) It has an early way out

C) It has some nodes for people who played the original version, or those that don't like the pre-dedline versions. It's just great.

Played a bit longer and, other than confusing the Narrator with doing so many things at a time, I didn't really catch anything else. Great job with the bugfixing and QoL changes!

Also, since last time I forgot, here are 2 whales. Enjoy! :whale: :whale:

kirezar 2017-12-09 01:17

@moski From another member of the team, thank you for giving the game another shot! Glad the bugfixes we made weren't over the typical accepted limit, as our first LD we weren't sure what we could or could not fix!

Also glad you lost so much time playing our game through and through, so thanks for all the valuable input!

(also yaaaaaay more whaaaales!)

kaisean-games 2017-12-09 17:47

I have no idea what I just played. But still had to play it to the end. What a strange psychodelic experience.

On a side note, everything's good, but the music is a bit repetitive. Also, changing a pitch a little for the jumping sound would make things more natural, not always sounding the same. Jumping is also something that could have been improved, but other than that, interesting gameplay experience.

kirezar 2017-12-09 17:52

@kaisean-games thank you for playing. I'll admit, it's not my greatest work of art, in the music department, I was tied up with a lot of programming as well, and ideas weren't flowing as much, but thanks for the feedback.

As for the jump, it does change pitch O_o it's unfortunate you didn't notice it a lot, maybe should have had a bigger pitch variance for it!

Anyway, thanks for playing, and I hope you enjoyed it ^_^

furet 2017-12-10 05:56

Funny game, enjoyed playing! I could see this as a fun intro activity for a beginner's game development course.

jorgegamedev 2017-12-13 04:56

2017-12-13 03H47M19.png

Finally, after post-pone-ing playing your game until I was sure I could give it the proper feedback I finally got around to doing it. That being said, it's finally time to get on with it. :trophy: I'm pretty sure @moski will also be proud that I finally decided to give my whale-pals some feedback after making him play the game for me the first time. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The first thing I have to say is that the whole thing was an overall great experience, and a fun one at that too, especially as I got to see all the different content get constantly added in. Every new feature had me thinking what would be next thing to be added to the world, was it a new mechanic, gag, or simply a new currency.

The dialog and interactions between the narrator and the player were also very well written and humorous. I can tell one of you knocked a ball out of the park getting as many potential references into the text as possible. The final features added into the game, including the ending, were also a great touch and a nice way to close it off.

One impression that I got was that some of the early actions and achievements seemed like they got desynchronized. For example, I got the achievement explaining me how to use the katana, but I only got the katana (as the narrator itself said) on the add feature after the one that triggered the achievement. Same-wise, for latter texts (before the whole final section of the game) there also seemed to be situations where the text seemed to disappear either too early or not render at all, although could also only have been my impression due to how distracted I was with all the mechanics and flavour features that you guys added in.

It'd would also have been nice to have the enemies re-spawning as the game went on. I felt like I didn't get too see some of the latter spells, interactions and mechanics (such as lives) used to their fullest potential because there was nothing else to experiment with them with that'd require enemies and similar to interact with it. This instead lead to the game to be pretty much a collect-a-thon of collectibles as they spawned, which isn't exactly a bad thing, but as you went through all the trouble to add all that flavor combat mechanics in, it'd have been nice to actually be able to experiment with them.

Presentation wise, graphics and audio were also pretty great and eye/ear-catching with the most minor thing here and there being just the overall consistency of it, but since I'm not an artist, I'm probably not the most ideal person to tell you about it. Overall, for your first _Ludum Dare_ game it felt really nicely packaged and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

[In behalf of our team](https://twitter.com/WhalesAndGames) (~~adding that link here is kind of pointless since you all know me but for consistency sake~~), I am proud to finally see you guys survive your first _Ludum Dare_ and to release a game to the wild! I hope you enjoyed your overall experience, and I can only look forward for the stuff that you guys create next. Now if you guys would just release _Stacks for Good_ I'd be real amused. Thanks! :whale:

edmond00 2017-12-14 16:06

It was a very funny experience ! The transition from a minimalist game to a messy one is very well done and the dialogue with the narrator well written. There small issues like the jump that are a little confuse and the lack of enemy once you killed them all but the concept of your game make this issues part of experience. There is a lot of new feature that are just new items so it can become a little annoying, but again it fits the message of the game and the interesting end when the game start to bug make up for it. Very good job !

blubberquark 2017-12-15 14:04

Evoland did it first, but yours has a different feel to the humour. I'm impressed with all the content you put in. The humorous tone you use excuses that almost none of the features (jumping, dashing, katana) are that well implemented, or deep mechanics, but that makes it boring toward the end. I didn't laugh out loud, but I smiled at times. The dialogue ties it all together.

goncalo-monteiro 2017-12-16 18:31

Feature Creep, the enemy of all software develpment! Great entry!

wildgamut 2017-12-17 19:17

Haha, cool concept and definitely appropriate for the theme :) While some of the programming doesn't feel as solid as it could be (the jumping feels unnatural and sometimes doesn't work, the movement and collisions are not jerky, etc), it's understandable considering how much you've crammed in there in the limited amount of time this jam provided. In fact, it's kind of ironic considering what this game is about! Nice work!
