LD35 — Shapeshift

Super Shift-Shaper by Jacksendary 2016-04-19T16:03:00

It looks and seems pretty great, but as others have said it definetely needs some optimization. I really want to like it; if you fix that it would be a lot greater!

The Killer's Apprentice by PaulJs 2016-04-19T11:33:00

I like the idea of the man "shifting" and the athmosphere was pretty great! Some deeper gameplay, or some kind of failure state would improve the game in my opinion.
Still, solid work!

Office Wizzard by Extron 2016-04-19T12:06:00

I think the idea is awesome and the theme got implemented in an innovative way. The lack of any audio makes it a bit stale though. If you want to continue developing the game, I think giving the props different abilities, like being able to move for a small amount of time, and different guards who react differently would make the game a lot more interesting.
I think setting up a more direct download link, as Ildfuglen said, would be better too. Also, the game seems to block keyboard input when a controller is plugged in; I was about to complain about not being able to move when I figured it out. Probably try to allow both control schemes, doing that should count as a fix.
Overall, good work!

REPTILIAN MAYHEM by larkkkattack 2016-04-19T12:22:00

I love the reptilian idea and the sprites are great, but the game seems frustratingly difficult. The biggest balance problem is, I think, that the birdpeople shoot where you are. I think the reptilians jump abilties would make more sense if the bullets went in a straight line. Also, the birds shouldn´t instantly notice you after changing forms, so stealth attacks become possible. Of course these are just my personal thoughts and if you think it´s better like that, that´s no problem at all!
Definetely good for your first solo jam!

dotower - MOBA by endel 2016-04-19T12:17:00

While I think the theme isn´t implemented enough and I am not really feeling the mood (maybe because the game has no introduction) I really appreciate the work put into this; the graphics are really readable and smooth, the music is just enough, and making a multiplayer moba like game in such a short amount of time is really impressive! The core gameplay is really solid!

Starliege by Kudanaman 2016-04-19T16:11:00

Nothing happens when I press Escape ._. Seems like I can´t start the game.

Infinite Trip by Steven Pinto 2016-04-19T16:30:00

It´s pretty damn great! It may be simple and there isn´t too much variety, but I think its an awesome endless runner! The difficulty is just right too.

LD36 — Ancient Technology

A Day With Mr Lmao by seveca95 2016-08-31T16:40:00

It was a pleasant, short experience. The platforming mechanics worked pretty great, no frustrating jumps. I also liked that you could still kill and collect checkpoints while dying, maybe that could be expanded upon :) I personally didn´t like the music too much, but thats just subjective. I also think that pressing R should send you back to the checkpoint, not to the beginning of the game. Overall, a rather fun game though :>

Ancient Technologies by csanyk 2016-09-11T11:24:00

Nice game I love it how you have to plug in the controller and start the TV so you can start playing the real game! I also liked the music it kind of remembered me of the game Pony Island :D Good job!

Reinventing the Wheel by gonutz 2016-08-31T19:43:00

Very funny game, the puzzles are very tricky though. I loved the music :D

Kill me now by Pierrec 2016-08-30T11:35:00

Lol very funny game xD

Ancient Techno Low-G by Kassimkot 2016-08-29T22:20:00

The controlls with the xbox controller is much better than with keyboard and mouse. It has a pretty harsh difficulty to come through the levels but I still like it. The music is getting a bit annoying by time.

Nomore by djfariel 2016-08-31T17:27:00

Pretty good entry! I like the graphics, level design and the controlls! But the enemies are dropping a bit too much money (e.g. I had 96 lives at the end of my gameplay :P). And maybe shrink the cd of the dash, it's more comfortable.

Into The Light by Bendev 2016-08-31T11:35:00

Very cool und funny game, I liked it :D Also agree with the HUD problem I was a bit confused at the beginning

Into The Light by Bendev 2016-08-31T11:35:00

BTW I overworked my game, it should work for now ;)

Tech Support, 3162 by KingEthaniel 2016-08-31T11:38:00

Lovely game, I liked the art and pretty much the whole content of the game ^^ but I agree with the Skip function coz i played it alot to get to all the endings ;)

btw I overworked my game again so you can play it now ;)

LD37 — One room

Icara's takeoff by Karreg 2016-12-14T10:49:00

Really good, polished game; the controls are tight and I didn't encounter any bugs.
The music is kind of irritating and doesn't really feel right, but maybe that's just me. The visual quality and the gameplay definetely make up for it though; the idea behind it ( Icara and the maze ) is also super cute!
Great entry!

DISCOCUBE by BathPirate 2016-12-13T10:43:00

Super well done and very polished!
The puzzles could have been a bit better, as matthewpalaje said, and the theme it doesn't really fit the theme too much.
Still, the visuals are playful and awesome, and the game has a great, friendly vibe to it. You could really turn this into a commercial game!

Fisherman Bob's Happy Cabin by JoeYoshi 2016-12-13T10:20:00

I recommend playing the game before reading this comment!

Wow! I absolutely love this entry! Let's get the negatives out of the way so I can start gushing about the things I like.
The player animation is super cute, but isn´t playing correctly which gives the game a worse first impression. The dialogue with Mort is way too fast to do the things he talks about; it would be better if the player could advance the dialogue by pressing some kind of key. Halfway through the second day, picking up gasoline stopped working.
------------SPOILERS----------------
When shit hits the fan, the music also gets too loud. It really started to hurt my ears and I was not able to turn the volume down because I needed to avoid dying.

Now to the positives: I absolutely adore both the concept of your "one room" as well as the atmosphere of the game. I was completely caught off guard by the twist. It starts off so cute by shining your lights and getting rid of some animals; you are defending your cottage from the foxes. When the ghosts start coming, I did not want to be in that room anymore, and I definitely didn't want to defend it. I managed to reach Day 4 ( I guess it's the end since the enemy seemed unavoidable ? ) and everything becoming so twisted is superb.

Nobi Sword by matthewpalaje 2016-12-13T09:56:00

A great entry, just not a very fun one for me.
The visuals and the atmosphere of the game are superb! It´s really relaxing and the whole game looks great. I get that the wonky controls were needed to add some kind of difficulty to the game, but the bouncy, unpredictable movement of the character is a bit frustrating, especially when the sword bounces or stops your momentum. Since you loose momentum with everything you hit, it also never feels really satisfying to swing the sword.
Nonetheless, it's a very soothing experience and it's apparent that a lot of effort has been put into this!

Claustrophobia by jperlin 2016-12-14T18:34:00

The controls are a bit weird but all in all it'sa very unique game! I have not really understood what I have to do except of hurting eyes and lipsticks. I liked the music and the design alot, fitting to the weirdnes of this game.

Escape The Room by egordorichev 2016-12-13T09:08:00

A neat little polished game! The ASCII art is simple but cool, and I didn't see any bugs. The puzzles could have been a bit more complex and the controls are kind of quirky, but it's pretty solid!

Childroom by nataha 2016-12-13T09:43:00

A cute little game with a cute idea! The platforming stages are pretty fun and the graphics are great for "first experiences"; really solid first game! The top down stages were kind of frustrating since the controls on moving pillows and trains are kind of wonky, but the final boss was surprisingly cool (multiple moves are pretty impressive).
For a first game, this is pretty good!

Area 51: Dreamland by Pixelfan Games 2016-12-13T10:34:00

The idea of the game is ridiculous, but really funny!
My main gripe with the gameplay is the delay between clicking and the gun actually firing; it feels super wonky and the bullet time mechanic would have felt a lot better with it gone. Also, some of the floor tiles have too much (or not enough? artist here, cant code shit :c) depth and make bullets invisible.
The visuals are super great though; recognizable and stylish, especially the cutscene and the boss.
Keep it up!

LDCLMBR - Classic First Person shooter with exploration/adventure elements. by MichaelBrune 2016-12-13T09:32:00

The visuals are nice and the ragdoll physics are pretty damn great. The biggest problem however is pretty much that there is no real goal to achieve, as there is no punishment for dying and no score or something like that! Ran pretty stable though, which is nice.

You shall not pass! by Givit Game Studios 2016-12-13T09:17:00

The gameplay is pretty fun and I like the different enemy and weapon types quite a lot - especially the red and orange monsters. The contrast between Shop and the combat themes are pretty funny. Sadly, I seemed to encounter quite a few bugs, like the Door Health decreasing for no reason and not being able to buy ammo even if I had a lot of money. Maybe giving the pistol infinite ammo would have helped with the ammo / money problem you eventually run into. Some kind of score tracking would also improve it a lot.
Still a very charming game that feels good to play, weapon sounds and movement are quite good!

Fish.zip by buckle2000 2016-12-14T11:04:00

The main puzzle mechanic is very unique and you could add a lot of different fish types to expand on it! I think it's really missing some music though, just feels a bit lifeless right now. The tutorial was a bit weird ( could have just been in a small level ), but for 8 hours the game is great!

The Crystals of Gingledoof by The Tophat Demon 2016-12-17T16:24:00

Game is alright, but having "S" be the bomb key instead of space or some button that's easily reached feels very wrong and wonky.

LD38 — A Small World

Grall Axy by LooksLikeSomething 2017-05-04T08:07:40Z

Hey guys,

Thanks for making such a nice game. There are a few issues with the scaling, overlay, etc. although your game is consistent and funny to play - so good luck

Fancy meeting you here by Local Minimum 2017-05-02T19:38:01Z

The background sounds are incredibly weird and funny. The gameplay is a bit wonky but it's actually playable. I just didn't get how the game fits the theme.

Quantum Frustum by nusan 2017-05-12T14:38:56Z

The world of the game was very interesting and the little effects of the surroundings were really interesting. The gameplay has no big issues and the audio was kind of funky although it got a bit annoying after some time.

6 degrees of separation by Shivur 2017-05-12T14:27:43Z

The idea is unique and fits the theme perfectly. The gameplay was really simple, too. Would have liked some more graphics like a little sprite for each person with their different roles, although the game is well done for a compo.

Pluto is a Planet by TolMera 2017-05-01T10:55:20Z

The strategy approach to the theme is pretty interesting and I didn't encounter any game breaking bugs, but the gameplay is really confusing and the menus are pretty weird. The music is also a bit too noisy for my tastes and doesn't really fit too well for a space game. The space combat is a bit frustrating because of the bullets not being deleted after leaving the screen; predicting all of the bullets and dodging with the physics of the starship is a tad bit too much. Still, an interesting approach and the galactic emperor concept is pretty gud.

Binary Glitch by JOrbits 2017-05-04T08:21:02Z

The gameplay was really smooth, the audio pushed the mood enourmous and the sfx were perfectly working together with the background music. All in all it was a well made game although you don't have the best graphics. I'm impressed by your game.

A Small Earth by Skywilly 2017-05-02T20:11:07Z

The ending was a surprise. Besides the very simple gameplay at the beginning, I don't know how to rate the game because of the little content and the small consideration towards the actual gameplay.

Ellipticats by Hotchmoney 2017-05-02T19:57:03Z

The music is chill and doesn't get annoying even after 20 minutes of playtime. The gravities of the planets and the gameplay works very good. Would have loved some easter egg by collecting all the cats although it was a lot of fun to play.

Dr. M Little's Planet Mass Overdrive by slimabob 2017-05-01T10:42:22Z

The whole presentation and idea ( including that nice secret ending ) are adorable and great, but the gameplay was lacking any real challenge or things to look out for and the sounds weren't too good on the ears. Nevertheless, successfully creating the Katamari mechanic in 48 hours is super cool and pretty impressive to me.

Lead the Ants by matita 2017-05-05T14:24:55Z

I'm impressed of the "lead and follow" mechanic you programmed here, it works perfectly although it took some time until I understood how it worked. Would have liked some background music.

Your Small World by squirrelsoft 2017-05-06T15:38:54Z

Was an interesting game. Pretty complex with that much content and a neat mbackground music at the top of it.

Yourselves by Kloki 2017-05-04T08:55:28Z

The different ways of how to get to the goal for each person is well done and very interesting. The gameplay was a bit wonky at some points but nevertheless it was fun to play.

Crater Creator by navot 2017-05-05T14:45:55Z

It was kind of a cool sandbox game. Incredibly fun when the planet has tons of atmosphere so all meteorites come falling down on him so he keeps on growing :D

A Mote in the Dark by Kirenio 2017-05-06T13:47:34Z

Interesting mechanic, was very time consuming but fun. Couldn't find any big issues

LD42 — Running out of space

Cell Trapper by tybantarnusa 2018-08-17T14:53:58Z

Great usage of the theme. A bit of music and quality of life improvements ( no instant contact damage or preventing them from spawning near you) would have been nice, but solid jam entry nonetheless.

TrackBlasters by paulloz 2018-08-14T20:59:38Z

Excellent entry.

The music fits perfectly to the theme and the visuals and the sound design really makes it sound like a RC car.

The graphics while simple in style are consistent and consistently great, it's impressive how you didnt shy away from the high resolution props and images for a Jam game. And the racing twist on the theme is great and leads to unique gameplay.

My only criticism is that the bombs sometimes making the race unbeatable feels a bit frustrating, which isn't a big deal but maybe there couldv'e been some kind of assistance that helps you across gaps for a huge time loss, and that the lap recognition seems a bit wonky, especially in the 4th level. I did around 5 laps and it still didnt credit me a win; I couldnt get it to work. I might come back to it to complete it though because the game is very compelling for a jam game.

Outstanding work, hyped for your next entries!

Typewriter by boddiul 2018-08-14T15:51:40Z

The concept and premise of the game is absolutely excellent and it is surprising how well you were able to execute and build on the idea, given the damage model of enemies. The Graphics and audio aren't anything to rave about which is understandable given that its letters, the way you present them however, via Title and Game Over Screen for example, makes them great.

Sadly, it was a little laggy on my machine which should be able to handle the game with no problems; it didn't deduct a whole lot from the experience.

Very solid Entry, curious about your future entries and ideas!

Lootsalot by Sn4pi 2018-08-14T20:25:48Z

@kokonaught Thanks a lot for the comment! We didn't even consider tablets, but that's super interesting! Sadly, the title screen and introduction to the game didnt make it into the final build by about 10 minutes, but we were planning on giving the player at least a small pause before throwing him into the fray.

The franticness was intended as it was too easy at first and the difficulty was supposed to be because of the increasing speed; but the balance ended up a bit all over the place.

Lootsalot by Sn4pi 2018-08-17T15:22:50Z

@corqi Originally the tooltip was supposed to display a small flavor text about the use of the item, but our planning was a bit weak so we ended up having to scrap it. The crystal ball is just like the scroll and the wand a magic weapon; it's stronger than the wand and weaker than the scroll. Thanks for playing and the CC!

Lootsalot by Sn4pi 2018-08-17T16:12:48Z

@maxthecat I think the notion of a paused shop is interesting and could be tried; Initially the idea was that nothing is paused though. I agree that the overall gamespeed is too high though; maybe the shop wouldnt be such a problem if it the whole pace was better. ( Initially I planned a stopwatch item that would pause time for 5 or more seconds, too bad it didn't make it in. )

I've gotten the mobile thing from multiple people now; who knows, just maybe we'll see where this could go!

I'll ask my bud to upload the code or get in contact with you for the code of some mechanics for sure though!

Space Lost by rakart 2018-08-14T17:01:50Z

I really enjoyed the level design here; the purpose of each mechanic and the way it was laid out were instantly clear to me and I enjoy the main mechanic a lot; it's just a shame there were so few levels of it and just scratched the surface.

The Audio didn't do a whole lot for me personally, but the graphics were pretty solid. And the ending made me crack up a little :^). Nice entry and an interesting take on running out of space.

Spacetime Landlord Tycoon by mechanicallife 2018-08-14T18:11:47Z

Fantastic entry; the concept and presentation is great and adorable, there is a surprising amount of depth added through the different Inhabitants and the voice lines make it obvious that you had a lot of fun creating this one :^) I made it to the second week before a bug sadly did me in; an inhabitant kept dying even though he was already dead and thus in the span of 2 days I had about 12 ghosts in the house; but not a lot of other Jam games can pull me in for the time I played so really outstanding job. Excited for your next entries!

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-17T16:08:34Z

I usually hate bugs and try to avoid games about them, but I'll make an exception for squashing some. While I think it's 100% worth it to use the idea that you had given that its hilarious, it's not really using the theme and the possibilities it offers.

Doesn't change that its the near perfect jam game given it has a great length, fitting audio and music, a unique concept and gameplay idea thats perfect for the given format and a terrible pun in the name. It's all very cheesy and knows that it is, which made it a great experience.

Garbage Sale by MaxtheCat 2018-08-17T16:23:57Z

The damn town shouldn't be so angry about me accidentally selling some radioactive material; one mans trash is another one's gold; isn't it?

I absolutely love the idea and execution here; I haven't seen enough physics based space shortages and this one delivers. A way to see Helios requests without physically being next to it and a window on the first floor might've been nice; I never found the time to actually remove trash because I would have to get everything up first. I love the throwing, it basically never failed me and quality of life stuff like the picking up indicator help a lot in extinguishing frustration.

I gotta say though, you should be ashamed for the voice lines on the throwing. ( It might have increased the Humor rating though, just saying.) Great work!

Random Access Memory by SaRNEh 2018-08-14T19:06:17Z

As an expert RAM technician I can confirm that this software is an accurate portrayal of what happens in an average RAM chip.

The way you used the theme and the array of tasks connected to it are great and the high score loop was surprisingly effective; I gave it more tries than I expected. The game over screen is a great detail too. Sadly, the task screen often overlaps with the chips and makes it a bit more difficult than it should be, but still a neat game!

Second-Claw Shop by Unpoe 2018-08-14T16:37:56Z

While the gameplay is a bit confusing and unrefined at first, I eventually understood everything and the idea behind it. I love the graphical style and the idea of working 9 to 5 in hell and the world / setting is well done. I eventually reached a point where no more customers spawned and a mouse sensitivity options could do wonders, but I still had a lot of fun and think this is a solid entry.

PS: I don't appreciate what you put in the trash bin at all.

Orby by Samurai Ducks 2018-08-14T16:50:41Z

First off, I love the concept of punishing missed shots with the space restriction ( it got me an idea for another game actually, so thanks a lot for that! ) and thus like how well it corresponds to this Jams Theme.

I am personally not a fan of the aiming and got frustrated a bit too fast, a faster spinning circle with faster moving enemies to induce the same panic while making the shots more responsive or something similar would have probably helped.

However, the beautiful and soothing art and sound direction greatly leveraged said frustration by just how relaxing it is; maybe I just have a soft spot for nautical stuff but I really loved it.

Great entry!

Inventory Quest by acfaruk 2018-08-14T18:21:33Z

Always great to play and find a game with an eerily similar concept and gameplay to the own entry.

Loving that Megaman - Sprite and the item appraisal is pretty fun. I don't know about the music choice and would've preferred something more relaxing personally, but overall a solid entry!

LD44 — Your life is currency

STR!PES by Geckoo1337 2019-05-06T21:16:37Z

When I saw the thumbnail, I already knew my teammate would be up there in the leaderboards. Couldn't let that stand, of course. Very, very solid clone, it scratches the itch the very same way the original does. Like my bud I too would criticize the horizontal hitbox of the bars though, it creates a need for precision that can only be reached if you could use your own sensitivity, but that's a small speck on an otherwise fantastic entry!

Populistic Optimization by Genetic Selection by erikkire 2019-05-06T19:27:39Z

Love the idea and execution once you get a sprawling civilization going, but the meters are really vague. Aggression seems random entirely, I've tried a population with left meter aggression only and right meter aggression only and no matter what they frequently kill each other; so that was a tad bit frustrating. Still a cute and relaxing entry, very cool!

Deadline by Sn4pi 2019-05-02T09:47:08Z

@boxedmeatrevolution Funnily enough, we didn't nerf poison so it could be a safety net for beating the game. We got most stuff in the game, but failed on a lot of the fine tuning. Thanks for the feedback.

F_NULL by feips 2019-05-06T19:59:46Z

What this entry lacks in sound and presentation, it more than makes it up in fine tuned gameplay and execution. It's a simple yet novel idea very well translated, I imagine making the tracks fun and not frustrating was quite the challenge. Love this one!

BioTech Inc. by Paulo Brunassi 2019-05-06T19:35:42Z

Solid presentation, core gameplay and athmosphere! The game could have used an extra enemy faster than the player to enforce the use of the mechanic some more or a final challenge that has you balancing it on the fly, but it's a neat entry nonetheless!

Nomad by mediyaz 2019-05-06T19:06:54Z

The presentation is great throughout, and the music is corny but jamming. The gameplay lacks direction for the player; I get what I am supposed to do but not how to achieve it. Controls and the obstacles were very intuitive and understandable though.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Division Decisions by Sn4pi 2020-04-20T23:55:34Z

@billnotic @vidim888 @DecadeDecaf @Throf

Link should be working, another one should be up in a couple of minutes if the site can handle it again.

Division Decisions by Sn4pi 2020-04-22T14:09:56Z

@crochar Absolutely trying to reproduce a papers please-esque mood, so that's great! The font is intentionally trying to look a little obfuscated in headlines ( I tried copying an old german font somewhat ), but we messed up pixel-scaling so a lot of it looks crooked and isn't displayed right in game.

Division Decisions by Sn4pi 2020-04-22T14:15:02Z

@rongefilet That's some mighty praise! We didn't encounter the bug you describe, so I "hope" it's based on the emulation. Cool that it works at all though, we can't compile for anything but windows right now so it's great that you found a way to try it out. Thanks!

Division Decisions by Sn4pi 2020-04-23T02:09:10Z

@ordineu It started out as peace but functions more as Allied "Trust"; Peace as in peace between the Eastern and Western Allies. The meters are definitely not explained enough and we should've avoided that. Thanks for playing, still!

Pizza with a Pulse by slimabob 2020-04-21T00:50:17Z

An absolute fever dream. I actually really like the controls, reminds me of good ol' Envirobear. Only issue is stuff glitching through the car, happened to me with the heart on my first try. Hilarious entry.

8-Bit Soul Eater by Sebity 2020-04-21T17:23:34Z

Solid graphics and sound design. I like that the health regenerates, but the gameplay itself becomes a little repetitive. Some scary music right there too.

Mollie by DecadeDecaf 2020-04-22T20:24:32Z

This game is up there at the top regarding fun. The skateboard as a momentum based platforming mechanic is such a novel idea, it surprises me there isn't already a full game out there that plays like this that I know of.

LifeLine - Music Pattern Obstacle Dodge by WZQXRYS 2020-04-20T23:39:52Z

You know, I don't love the graphics, the random music is a little messy and the game really needed some more progressive difficulty. But something about it felt great. I love how the theme of keeping the beat going shows synergy with the randomly generated music. The music changes up, the screen melts away and after my run was done, the actual guitar riffs just perfectly end the whole experience.

I kept my run going for a solid 20 minutes, but I had to stop myself after reaching 100k. Capture.PNG

From a gameplay perspective, I think you could have been way meaner with the difficulty if you allowed players to slam back onto the track by pressing jump again in mid-air to give a little more control.

For a first Compo entry, this is absolutely fantastic.

THE IMMORTALITY AMULET by abk507 2020-04-21T16:40:08Z

I always appreciate trying to give the game a bit of background, so I like the intro cutscenes, but you gotta use a higher resolution for the art and font next time. I would have liked another way to kite the enemies besides walking to the shop, it's pretty difficult to align yourself correctly. I really like how the game is on a grid, but turns into a regular shmup pixel based game when the amulet is broken. An ambitious entry, keep it up and keep improving! Also, why no mood category? I actually think having an original mood is one of the strengths here.

Toy Wars by skico 2020-04-22T12:46:53Z

Such a great way to pick up the theme and certainly something I have never seen submitted to LD.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Mr. Cheeks Sweet Dreams by MrTroy 2020-10-08T01:09:42Z

At first I thought the abundance of life would make it too difficult, but while trying to figure out how to get the gummyworm I actually ended up dying once. Great balance of simplicity and engaging gameplay with some charming presentation to boot.

Johnny Lootem's Going Loopy! by Mr_Field 2020-10-06T19:25:51Z

I was surprised to see a Zero review game with such polish; you gotta update your Thumbnail and the likes. The visuals aren't necessarily anything special but are very appealing and above all cohesive without ever getting in the way. The music is jamming and the gameplay itself feels good as well. Which makes it too bad that my run ended with a crash:

___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ ERROR in action number 1 of Create Event for object obj_cs_nextState:

Pop :: Execution Error - Variable Index [-1] out of range [96] - -1.arrWorldGround(100114,-1) at gml_Script_generateVolcano ############################################################################################ gml_Script_generateVolcano (line -1) gml_Script_scr_start_gameState gml_Object_obj_cs_nextState_Create_0 gml_Object_obj_e_boss_Step_0 (line -1)

Another crash happens when you fly left at the start, but that's more funny than problematic.

Set in Stone by Sn4pi 2020-10-08T10:36:26Z

@overlook-studios Camera shake among other things really would have been some no-brainer polish; It's a shame our last day got cut really short or we could have improved on a lot.

We actually decided to not use an ammo bar hoping that it would make you count your shots, but that's probably more a bother than fun. Thanks for the feedback!

Within The Threes by JohnnyR 2020-10-07T17:26:02Z

I like that you paid attention and included some ambient sounds in your entry; for the type of game this is setting the tone is really important. I like the visual variation between screens and I had no problem "finding" the dog, just a shame he had to remain invisible.

SentIO by simon.parzer 2020-10-06T19:53:20Z

A neat little experience, if not a little long winded in the way it's told. Truth be told, if Sid wasn't so adorable I would have probably closed the program way earlier, so I guess you managed to do the most important thing.

Hiccup Time by Somogy 2020-10-08T00:59:43Z

Love the idea; surprisingly also one of the only puzzle entries I've played in the jam so far. Although I think the rewind mechanic wasn't used to it's fullest, it was a very charming experience. The idea that monsters cost you progress and candy prevents it works very well, and using the hiccups for hit and run tactics against monsters felt pretty good. Also; I didn't quite catch how I got the yellow ingredient, I just had it all of sudden. Good job!

Beat Bash by Overlook Studios 2020-10-06T00:43:44Z

Stellar core gameplay, this is really fun and really addictive. It's a little on the easy side once you get the hang of it and it stops overwhelming you, but it feels like there is still a LOT I could improve on. I can really see how you put it a placeholder for an online mode, because if you add more interesting runes to this this could be an absolutely stellar multiplayer experience. No idea how many people worked on this but it would be impressive no matter what team size.

Ghost Jammer by schreibmaschine 2020-10-07T17:19:13Z

I love the execution of the theme and the overall package is solid, but I feel like the course design is a little frustrating and I kept being launched into the air for milliseconds, denying control.

Ghost Hunter by Mochizuki 2020-10-08T00:50:40Z

Given the nature of being a first learning game it's obviously lacking in all departments, but I tried a lot of stuff and it didn't crash once, so that's something! Keep at it, you can do some amazing stuff in gamemaker when you get used to it, and it's really comfortable for jams at least.

Loop by Geckoo1337 2022-04-03T17:25:03Z

I see a leaderboard. I see a Gecko game. You'll catch me at the top babyyy

Loop by Geckoo1337 2022-04-11T17:41:34Z

It's a bummer for the blackout. I was 1st for about 10 minutes, but I don't think I'll be able to put the time in needed for a #1 spot this time. The game is just RNG after 10 seconds because the dots will be unreactable after that point, so it just feels like a game of luck where you can sometimes "feel the algorithm" a bit to perform better ( as in swapping when the bullets spawn that are coded to intercept your path if you don't swap direction). I think you know all of this well enough so I'll shut up about it; as always very glad to see a functioning leaderboard that still gives that motivation.

Loop by Geckoo1337 2022-04-12T11:32:43Z

@peringo Not at all, that was my co-developer (so I guess at least our team still keeps the record, heh ). I didn't realize there was a leaderboard blackout, I mixed up another devs power blackout problem with your computer problems.

Wicked Wilds by peringo 2022-04-06T21:29:13Z

@bitlytic ``` or when you hover over an item, what items can be combined with it ``` This is already in the game. Items that can be combined will be green, items that can't be combined will be red. Thanks for playing our game. We intentionally didn't go for a list, but we didn't want people to just guess blindly either, so it seems that our implementation has failed here.

Wicked Wilds by peringo 2022-04-06T23:54:18Z

@vasher Yeah, the flame was a massive oversight. We'll look for ways to improve crafting if we continue this, but we'll try to get around recipes for as long as we can :P Thanks for giving it a shot!

Wicked Wilds by peringo 2022-04-08T16:15:29Z

@pordrack How did you even access the web version? We had that thing online for like, 20 minutes on release day. We know it didn't work, so we took it offline. Surprising to still see comments about it, and I can't access it myself.

Thanks for giving the download version a shot though! It was on purpose, but we know that it can be annoying. I also don't like that there is no additional "the fire is REALLY dying now" stage / indicator, for example. We are going to make a small post jam version where we'll try to address that, there is something else planned to get around the problem of the "fire compass".

Different Strokes by Scott Steffes 2022-04-06T14:37:55Z

Right up there with Walkie Talkie in my favorite LD things ever made. I spent more than 3 hours in your gallery now and have created great works of art, destroyed great works of art and made some grand shitposts ( I might have kicked off the Among Us thing yesterday, I'm sorry. )

Only thing I don't get is if Works of art that are rated negatively get improved on again or if they just revert to the original. Sometimes I feel like its the latter, which would be a bit of a shame.

Perfect marks in almost every category if you ask me.

PUMPKING RISING by peringo 2023-01-10T12:03:39Z

@yubs Argh, can't believe it happened again, thought I fixed that. Thanks for giving the game a shot.

PUMPKING RISING by peringo 2023-01-10T12:05:21Z

@lucasgamedesigner It was a fatal mistake no not have the text for swapping tools on the same slide as when you need it, haha. I struggle with tutorials a lot because usually I don't want to put them in in the first place and just design the game more intuitively, but I goofed.

PUMPKING RISING by peringo 2023-01-10T12:06:37Z

@adam-gallina This one sounds especially bad, but I guess there is nothing we can do. That didn't happen for any of the last minute testers or us, but I can see how that would break the run instantly.

PUMPKING RISING by peringo 2023-01-10T20:57:43Z

@truechips Thanks for giving it a shot and even beating it! Mandrakes are free to avoid softlocks. Technically due to the water limit, the higher tier enemies are more optimal for reaching the 10.000, but it's for sure not a good reason.

N.O.A.S. by JudJudson 2023-01-10T13:06:56Z

This will be nutrition in 2014

Great entry. It's really cohesive, has clear direction and is a nice little package. I think the melee plants are weird though. I understand they change color to telegraph their attack, and going by the description I think I'm supposed to mash E on them? Picking plants in general is pretty fiddly because of the tiny distance you need to keep, but I think that was intentional to make it feel scrambly. I avoided the melee plants on my winning run though. Pretty funny, too!

Carrot by itsBoats 2023-01-10T22:06:58Z

There was not a single bad decision made when designing this game, hot damn. Extremely fun!

Chess The Second by aslan 2023-01-10T18:47:05Z

I think this game would be awesome in multiplayer, at least as long as my enemy is as terrible at chess as I am. In general, the idea of mixing chess movement with 4X conventions has some big potential. Great job!

WARVEST by Erivas_Soulares 2023-01-10T13:31:19Z

It's fun and cohesive. Character spritework is good and feels responsive, 8 directional as well which is great. I think the pacing could have tightened up. It took so long to get going that I thought I was doing something wrong and had to plant something, and the long start is an obstacle to start another run. In addition to that the playing field is pretty massive and movement speed is slow. Tighten the screws here and you would have a banger high score game though! Also, I'm glad you put a lot of work into Player experience regarding information with the crops growing and the HUD.

Jiang Shifu by Sn4pi 2024-04-17T18:49:30Z

@TokArts I underestimated the random tenacity of Ludum Dare players, haha. 10 Minutes is crazy as well! I am sorry the last level is so unpolished ( there are some invisible elements, although I am genuinely proud of the first saw section. ) Thanks a lot for the plentiful praise! I will check out your game as soon as I am able to, Seems we chose a somewhat similar style regarding art ( Team thick outlines anyone ? ) We should try to get our times on here soon.

Jiang Shifu by Sn4pi 2024-04-17T18:54:38Z

@DrgCandle Thanks a lot for the comment. Are you perhaps a Chinese native speaker? ( I visited your page ) If so, I am extra glad you seemed to enjoy the experience. We were trying to explore some cool parts of Chinese mythology and a bit worried we wouldn't be tasteful enough with it :) A taotie that worked like an aimable barrel from Donkey Kong was pixeled and designed, but sadly had to be cut x)

Jiang Shifu by Sn4pi 2024-04-18T19:47:05Z

@courtneylapin Congratulations!! Hope you are the last to beat it now with that bet, haha. Thank you for playing and engaging with it! Our coder has recoded the collisions post jam and now all of these edge cases are fixed and we have a lot more level design possibilities due to it, but the jam version is the jam version :) No plans to make this a full game though sadly. The last level has a couple of insivisble talisman refills and two spikes where you died due to negligence in my cleaning it up, I made the level in the last hour of the jam x) Sorry for that, although most players luckily dont encounter it due to the better angle on the right.

Jiang Shifu by Sn4pi 2024-04-21T18:13:12Z

@kanity The windowed bug should be fixed by a restart or pressing alt+Enter. The other thing is a killbox, you can enter the door by clicking on it. Sorry you had that experience x)

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Slime King by Sn4pi 2024-10-17T09:05:18Z

@emsea No worries, haha. Thank you for the feedback.

A major thing we want to tackle in our followup version is decreasing game pace and making group flinging more transparent. While there is fun chaos, we think the game needs to slow a bit down to make positioning and moving more satisfying and impactful. Of course we are also adding a way to move when at the borders given how difficult that turned out to be. While in an ideal version the player would still have to dodge a lot with the King, we will experiment with making slimes block bullets and adding more defensive slimes to allow more freedom for the player.

Flower Friends by Jejkobb 2024-10-09T15:43:05Z

Cute, polished entry. I like the soft artstyle, wish more full games used it to do cool stuff.

Lil Fella Killa by Cisco 2024-10-08T12:38:29Z

Powerful artistic statement on the nature of violence. The game transformed me into a bloodhungry crazed maniac, hunting down that last missing little fella behind the fridge.

I shed a tear when I killed that last little fella.

Wild Ketch by RamboBeans 2024-10-10T21:39:07Z

Haven't seen an incremental game about creature collecting. I liked the manual part of the game, not so much the growing and automation personally. Different ways to catch different creatures could have been nice. Cute models too.

Magical Girl Danmaku Dandelina by alpacalypse 2024-10-08T13:33:53Z

"205220000" I love bullet hell. Might be the first time ever I played a bullet game that starts you at the top instead of the bottom. Graphics are cute, Patterns are fun.

Will say that offense felt pretty limited; the powerups looked like projectiles to me at first so I had to play through the game with only one upgrade and most of the time being above the enemies was not an option. Good choice to give a lot of health due to that. Cool entry.

Magical Girl Danmaku Dandelina by alpacalypse 2024-10-08T13:37:59Z

Beat it one more time with the upgrades and this time the boss spawned. Cool laser attack.

Keep It Up Kitty by richjbaron 2024-10-08T13:16:37Z

I always like controls with mouse gestures, these work really well after you get used to them. Cute game.

Cursed Lil' Frog by Jetmarch 2024-10-08T13:27:35Z

Polished in the sense that everything works, looks good and has no significant design flaws! Good job.

Familiar Bones by barryrichter 2024-10-08T13:13:13Z

Lots of jagged edges gameplay wise, but it sticks to a style and mood and executes it well.

Innocenties Beasties by Mitsukoy 2024-10-08T11:48:08Z

Cute idea. It gets a bit too difficult too quick after the 30 second mark.( my best time ended up being 0:49 after a couple of tries ) I like the different attack / pet sprites.

Consider opting out of the music category as Suno uses stolen music from other folks, thus making you ineligible for the category.

Farting Mite by Adam Armonia 2024-10-08T12:15:35Z

Cute character sprite. The controls are (intentionally?) pretty eldritch and made me give up at the section with the double egg doors ( I could not lay the egg, use the switch, teleport to it and lay a new one no matter how often I tried ).

A Story of Steebs by BrotherBrody 2024-10-08T13:55:32Z

Might be my favorite Steeblike in the last 30 years of video game history.

Simplistic, but good simplistic. I like that you tried to do different stuff with the levels. The "prison" type level was the only one I didn't particularly enjoy. Good work!

LD57 — Depths

@doomky Thanks for the feedback!

You have to press up because you have to be careful when doing acrobatics on the stairs! Wouldn´t want to teach the youngsters to carelessly jump around on them ;-)

Downstairs by Sn4pi 2025-04-08T18:10:43Z

@temposter Both links seem to work? I can upload a google drive mirror I guess.

Belials Bellybutton by Kujoen 2025-04-08T18:37:27Z

Solid work! You really managed to create some mood. The art is cohesive too. I wish there was another threat lurking down there. I think I died to a jellyfish (somehow killing me from full health?) close to the last chest I was missing.

DigDig by Overlix 2025-04-08T19:22:17Z

I love the voxel models. Performance was fine on my end, even though it did get the fans spinning. I crafted everything I could, but couldn´t find any gold even though I dug forward and down until it wouldn´t let me anymore. I chased some of the golden particles coming out of the wall, but they only led to coal and iron as well. Good effort!

DATE IN THE DEPTHS by WHOLE GARBAGE SALE 2025-04-08T18:50:36Z

Charming and quirky! I genuinely expected some kind of dating mechanics, so that was a funny first level end. Like that you expanded on the concept. The music was super chill, but it seemed kind of at odds with the sounds. Sounds were also well made, just the mash of both didn´t work for me.

Debts in the Depths by Reaktori 2025-04-08T19:42:27Z

Good job. Many units, lots of polish, didn´t encounter any meaningful bug besides the unit position thing, which is no real problem. Investing seems a little unclear, but it did end up making me rich by the end of the game I suppose. I love that there is unit promotion, although I don´t know how good upgraded units are because of it. I especially like the player control during rounds. Great balance of power, punishing spamming and rewarding doing it efficiently.
