I didn't really understand the goal of the player. Some kind of tutorial would be nice.

birchtree 2019-05-02 14:29

This game is really cool! There were a lot of surprising moments while exploring. I love how you can still get fuel a little after your ship has died. The controls are difficult but fun. Good job!

noobexception 2019-05-02 14:34

Very nice game  I tried not to cheat too much, but I felt like the spaceship was a little bit unresponsive to my controls and it was difficult to follow fuel path.

The design and sound are great, if you balanced the movement it'd be a great game to play.

Good job!

fuel=life=currency, theme checks out. It also looks pretty and is fun to play.

corqi 2019-05-02 14:41

I need to say, I like this concept (besides the fact that I can't really see theme here). The music and graphics are great! I had fun playing this, but I couldn't figure out how to upgrade my ship (maybe You could write more specific tutorial?). Also I'm not really sure if player can really escape from the gravity well, because I tried several times while having max fuel capacity and holding f, but I always did fail and got sucked back to it. Anyway nice game!

I feel big potential in this game. I would even save it in bokmarks. It makes an amazng atmoshere when you fly, run into different things, learn more about space. Unfortunately it was a bit laggy on my pc. Thank you for this game. Hope you will develop it further.

mironx 2019-05-02 14:46

The game is a bit hungry for my processor and operative memory. If it were a litle bit more optimised, it would be very lovely game. Maybe later I'll return to the game to succeed the escape. Thank you. Also I have no report on bugs or something like that.

mediyaz 2019-05-02 14:56

@oroshix Gather fuel > Upgrade ship > Explore map to find the secret secret thing you can use to unlock the thing you need to unlock to escape!

mediyaz 2019-05-02 14:59

@birchtree Thank you! Yes, I wanted a game that was mainly about exploring and so I wanted to include lots of things you could stumble upon along the way that can help with your fuel gathering. I'm very pleased with the drifting with no fuel aspect - it initially was a happy accident that I ended up polishing and keeping in as it really fit with the setting.

mediyaz 2019-05-02 15:01

@noobexception Yeah the controls are inspired by actual space probes, where your jets/fuel are only used sparing and mainly to slow down and change direction - it's all about building a bit of speed and making little adjustments whilst drifting as much as you can to conserve fuel.

mediyaz 2019-05-02 15:03

@flying-dog-fish Thank you! I wanted to use the theme to inspire not only the mechanics of the game, but the setting as well.

mediyaz 2019-05-02 15:07

@corqi Screenshot 2019-04-29 at 18.18.13.png You can upgrade your ship at one of these stations dotted around the map - you can fly into them and hold a direction (left/up/down) to purchase upgrades in exchange for your lifeblood as a space explorer - your fuel! Pssst SPOLIERS: If you find the secret purple station (I wonder where all those purple ships are headed to in such a hurry?) You can get an upgrade to your ship to allow you to leave the gravity well and complete the game - you don't need loads of fuel to do it either.

mediyaz 2019-05-02 15:09

@dexfrost89 Thank you! Apologies for the lag - the galaxy is very large with a lot of physics objects. Perhaps splitting it into smaller solar systems might help.

mediyaz 2019-05-02 15:10

@mironx Thanks - I don't know if you played the web or windows version, but if you only tried the web one, give the windows one a go - it *should* be way faster!

dexfrost89 2019-05-02 15:35

@mediyaz The windows version is just another experience. No lags at all. The only problem for me now is turning off the music as it starts being annoying in some time. But the whole game is really good. One of the games i will play even after ludum dare.

jasond 2019-05-02 15:40

Really like the style of the logo, and the other graphical assets!

mediyaz 2019-05-02 15:51

@dexfrost89 Oh great - Thanks for returning to my game! And you can press 'M' to mute the music!

mediyaz 2019-05-02 15:51

@jasond Thanks for your kind words!

tiagorrech 2019-05-02 16:17

Hey, what a nice entry this is!

I really liked the momentum you can get into when going at fast speeds, and there was this really nice moment where I escaped the gravitational pull, but then I stopped for some reason and got pulled back in and was like "ooooh, THAT's how it works". Very nice!

I especially liked the visuals for the upgrade station! Very polished.

I would've liked to see some more blasting sounds from the ship. The song is nice and gets you pumped to go fast, so maybe some more powerful sound to the thrusters would've been nice, but that's a minor detail. Nice work!

peringo 2019-05-06 19:06

The presentation is great throughout, and the music is corny but jamming. The gameplay lacks direction for the player; I get what I am supposed to do but not how to achieve it. Controls and the obstacles were very intuitive and understandable though.

fireslash 2019-05-06 19:32

I love the style you've gone with here.

Overall pretty nice entry! The biggest complaint I have is that you can sort of get "stuck" on planets if you fall into them. Seems like this should either be a death state, or easier to break free of. Alternatively, you could add a "landed" state which allows the player to launch for a larger fuel cost that shoots them well past escape velocity.

mediyaz 2019-05-07 11:22

@peringo Thanks! - I wanted player-directed exploration to be a key part of the game and while I included 'paths' of fuel pieces the player could follow to various points of interest, the greatest rewards would be when the player strikes out on their own to possibly find things others might have missed. I think to encourage exploration and make it feel exciting and rewarding, the player needs to not be too directed and it's tricky calibrating that balance to suit all players. Thanks for your feedback!

mediyaz 2019-05-07 11:26

@fireslash Thanks for pointing that out - It *is* actually possible to escape the planets - instead of trying to get away directly from the planet's gravitational pull, jet at a right-angle to it so you orbit the planet. Keep jetting the spiralling out from the planet to build up enough speed to escape the pull. But yeah it's not that intuitive to do that and I bet that could be frustrating. I love the idea of landing on planets - would be cool to be able to interact with them and mine them for minerals or trade with the inhabitants or get information about surrounding area.
