Cool game reminds me Don't starve

cubzer 2022-04-05 11:22

Really nice game. The graphics are the first thing that stoud out to me. The crafting mechanic is well thought out and executed. Sounds and Music always match the ambiente very good (especially at night).

The only thing I found wierd was that, when I equipped a weapon/tool, the tool previously held would be droped on the floor. Maybe it could be automatically placed in an empty inventory slot if available.

Also the inventory size could be increased a little bit for my taste. Just one or two slots more so that i can manage my stuff more easily. But thats maybe just messy me.

Overall really good game. Well done.

lord-shulky 2022-04-05 12:31

@pashaloban To me it looks a bit like Forager :) the game is pretty good but yeah as @Cubzer said the inventory size could probably be increased.

barelyevengames 2022-04-06 03:23

Awesome game! I gave it like 6 runs since only my last 2 or 3 I felt like I knew what I was doing and the last two I managed to get to day time the second day, but beyond crafting some nice weapons I really couldn't figure out what to do...art and music is beautiful though and the game itself really takes advantage of some cool things in GMS2! The hands are also super creepy...nice job with those :D

Edit: I had an idea while I was writing to **use the fire** and got some cool results, I can see you addressed bigger inventory as an upgrade which is super cool! I even got a second backpack which it didn't seem like I could do anything with. Anyway I couldn't really figure out if there was an endgame, but what was here was fantastic. Nice job!

spacecadet 2022-04-06 17:40

I think there is some problem with the scaling of the web version (or is the full screen button missing?). At least I can see just one part of the instructions and when the game starts it is hard to see anything as the inventory is blocking 1/3 of the screen. For the same reason it was really hard to pick anything from the ground and advance in the game. The graphics look really nice though and I think the idea fits to the theme well. :)

Got this error: ############################################################################################ ERROR in action number 1 of Step Event0 for object oPlayer:

Unable to find instance for object index -4 at gml_Script_inventoryDnD ############################################################################################ gml_Script_inventoryDnD (line -1) gml_Object_oPlayer_Step_0

When I had a pick and tried picking up an axe!

Very cute game with a good art style though, so much potential in this bad boy!!! You should so develop it into a full game after the jam :)

sn4pi 2022-04-06 19:39

Hey @mopifish did you play the normal or the post-jam version? I tried replicating this bug but can't seem to find an error

bitlytic 2022-04-06 21:23

This was a really cute game and seems like it would be really fun, a couple things I could recommend that would really push this game further is showing either a list of what you can craft, or when you hover over an item, what items can be combined with it. A lot of your first runs will be just trying blindly to combine random items to learn recipes rather than come up with a plan.

peringo 2022-04-06 21:29

@bitlytic ``` or when you hover over an item, what items can be combined with it ``` This is already in the game. Items that can be combined will be green, items that can't be combined will be red. Thanks for playing our game. We intentionally didn't go for a list, but we didn't want people to just guess blindly either, so it seems that our implementation has failed here.

sofignedova 2022-04-06 23:43

The game looks very charming! Graphics 10/10 , Music and sounds 10/10. Gameplay 10/10. Idea 10/10. If you release the game, I will be your fan!

wainini 2022-04-06 23:49

What a cool game! I had fun figuring out what combines with what. Animations are also very smooth and nice to look at. Well done!

abdonatioera 2022-04-06 23:49

The art was charming, and the music and gameplay were great. It took me about four runs before I figured out what I was doing though, maybe have a button to bring up the controls infographic while playing.

vasher 2022-04-06 23:51

Cute game! But I died even when the candle was lit! Crafting seemed a little difficult maybe recipes in the post jam version? It wasa fun though!

peringo 2022-04-06 23:54

@vasher Yeah, the flame was a massive oversight. We'll look for ways to improve crafting if we continue this, but we'll try to get around recipes for as long as we can :P Thanks for giving it a shot!

boxedmeatrevolution 2022-04-07 00:23

Very reminiscent of Don't Starve. The characters were all really creative--I liked the candle protagonist and the blacksmith. It was fun experimenting with the world to learn how to survive. I think that the nights are a little bit too long... often they weren't especially difficult, just a little boring to get through.

phoenixofforce 2022-04-07 09:29

Felt like great mix out of Dont Starve and Forager. Candle bois sprite/ animation are awesome. Loved it. Good job :)

vonfuzzius 2022-04-07 10:20

Just so polished and actually really fun! I also really like the design of the monsters, characters and even the trees! Well done!

arya-s 2022-04-07 14:48

The gameplay loop feels really solid. The feedback sounds on interactions are really tight and you created a really neat mood, especially at night.

I like the NPCs with their no-text intuitive requirements/dialogue.

I did struggle with understand the crafting system for a long time, but you're aware of that.

Very impressive what you put together in such a short time!

esben-jensen 2022-04-07 19:35

Great game, and challenging :o It took me a little while to figure out the crafting system, but that's ok, nothing wrong with a little eksploration and eksperimentation, it comes with the genre. Sound and feedback works well. The music is great. And the combat system has a good feel and precision.

ghatazorg 2022-04-07 19:35

My PC crash when I launch the game :/ I can't play, I m sad

pordrack 2022-04-08 15:54

A really good game ! Graphics are nice, graphics are nice, had a great time and launched it many time trying to beat it. The lack of a "fire compass" on day, the zoom level and the lack of a fire gauge make it a little frustrating, but maybe it's on purpose. Overall, the game greatly encourage exploration, transport the player in another world and is really cute.

/!\ The web version is unplayable on my computer, can't pick up items, can't see anything etc. I think you should put a warning about it as it may give player a bad first impression. Globally I think that there's a scale problem with the game, like it doesnt scale down on smaller computer or something ( a quarter of the explications where left out on my notebook and the camera was off centered)

peringo 2022-04-08 16:15

@pordrack How did you even access the web version? We had that thing online for like, 20 minutes on release day. We know it didn't work, so we took it offline. Surprising to still see comments about it, and I can't access it myself.

Thanks for giving the download version a shot though! It was on purpose, but we know that it can be annoying. I also don't like that there is no additional "the fire is REALLY dying now" stage / indicator, for example. We are going to make a small post jam version where we'll try to address that, there is something else planned to get around the problem of the "fire compass".

pordrack 2022-04-08 16:29

@peringo Oh sorry, I started playing two days ago or something actually, but wanted to progress further in the game before giving my opinion. There was always something grabbing my attention and makes me want to try the game one more time.

noiyy 2022-04-10 12:56

This is great! Really enjoyed it, survived for 1914 seconds, damn  Love the pixel-art, lil' fire icon when u're away and the smith design. The only thing I'm missing is a time indicator and fire time indicator. Overall really great game, I'd definitely play this again if more stuff got added the longer it burns

dreamscale 2022-04-10 17:28

My main issue is the night-time parts drag on waaaay too long and once the projectile guys start appearing you're kinda screwed as they will just spawn camp you. Also the controls were finnicky, sometimes you'll try to place a log in the fire but it actually just ends up behind the fire instead. Would love to see some of those things fixed as otherwise I had a lot of fun exploring and figuring out how everything works!

don-fouts 2022-04-11 01:39

Love the graphics and general game idea. The small detail I was really impressed with was the way you accomplished the little flame on the main character. It looked great! I do wish there was an easy way to replay, or at least I couldn't find one outside force closing the game. IT would also have been nice to see how much time I had, it took a while for me to figure out the timing. Overall this was a great entry, nice work!

geckoo1337 2022-04-11 15:11

Nice game with an amazing aesthetic. The sounds are great - especially the guitar part during the intro. The main gameplay is unusual, but with some interesting features _ a few keys which add more fun. maybe you could include a map system or a way in order to indicate where the firecamp is. It could be useful. However you made a solid entry - as usual. Thank you. I wish you the best ++

alaah 2022-04-13 21:55

I played Wicked Wilds for 45 minutes. That's a ton of content for a jam game.

It's hard to understand at first and there's the sprite layering bug, and everything else is chef's kiss. You have a really solid foundation for a friendlier Don't Starve-like game.

maxwell3000 2022-04-16 04:47

Actually a really engaging game, the sprite of the main character is really cute! The only problem I had was I wish there was a way to tell what possible crafting recipes you could make. I feel that would speed up the confusing beginning of running around randomly smashing rocks together.

tornadopiggie 2022-04-17 19:06

This game is absolutely fantastic. How you managed to put this all in over 72 hours amazes me. The game is polished and pretty, the artstyle is beautiful, the daytime music is lovely and the nighttime music is creepy. The "Don't Starve"-esque gameplay loop is wonderful and the threat of the monsters were genuinely scary. Great game all around!

rojo 2022-04-18 19:17

Took a couple tries to understand what I was doing with the controls, but after that it was fun experimenting with the item combinations to craft / use things.
