I really liked your game!

It's a pitty it doesn't have sound but overall the experience was good, reminds me to the old game "Megarace 2"... If polished this game could be really interesting :)

About the fire world, the track color almost made me blind

feips 2019-04-30 07:20

@selewi Thank you for the feedback, I don't really like the color of the fire world either.

rheel 2019-05-03 18:48

At first, the game didn't seem to work for. I restarted it, noticed the graphics settings was set to very low, adjusted it to ultra, and then it worked! I don't know what happend, but the top speed of the vehicle in very low was also very low, which made for a boring game.

But, when I was able to play your game as intended, I really liked it! It is quite hard to stay on the track when you're going fast, mainly because the turning doesn't slow down as it would with a 'normal car'. That would be an improvement. Overall, fun game!

pepnou 2019-05-06 16:29

Awesome game! I didn't manage to beat the first level XD. The road might be a bit too thin.

I really like the low-poly environment. Is there any sound effect or was my version buggy ?

mharring 2019-05-06 16:32

Great game! It would have been nice to have a more obvious start point, so you can tell when you are approaching the next lap. Also I'd suggest adding some items to pick up to regenerate your health - if you had a rough start you didn't have any way to recover. That said, well done!

feips 2019-05-06 17:15

@pepnou Thank you, no your verseion isn't buggy, sadly there just isn't any sound or music.

erikkire 2019-05-06 17:22

Very beautiful and good controls. Some sound and music would have made it top level stuff. Something I miss in this game is some opponents to crash into and compete against. The AI for that might take some time but just a suggestion from me, this is a great submission!

kaiomoi 2019-05-06 18:57

Great submition ! the feeling of speed is good, very good, the 3C are really cool, even if the inpute mapping could be improved (I have try on keybord). The probe is missing a bit, but good 72h ^^. I really like AD, simple, efficient and readable (except for the fire circuit). Well done :)

peringo 2019-05-06 19:59

What this entry lacks in sound and presentation, it more than makes it up in fine tuned gameplay and execution. It's a simple yet novel idea very well translated, I imagine making the tracks fun and not frustrating was quite the challenge. Love this one!

luckyfeathers 2019-05-06 20:05

Really cool game! It flows very well and I like the interpretation of the theme. It's very unfortunate that there's no sound, as it would have been such an excellent entry with just a few sound effects. I also think this game would have been a lot better with an online highscore. It's actually surprisingly easy to implement, and it's free. Here's a tutorial https://youtu.be/KZuqEyxYZCc Either way, great game. Good luck next game jam! :)

feips 2019-05-06 20:09

@luckyfeathers thank you, I will look into that!

shubart 2019-05-06 20:14

Really nice and fun game. I failed to boost with the gamepad. But it is really good. You should take time to add sounds and music. Tank you very much

feips 2019-05-06 20:20

@shubart Thank you, I am sorry about the non-existing gamepad support, I just sort of hardcoded the spacebar into the game.

popdaddygames 2019-05-06 21:30

This is splendid! The varying colors are gorgeous, and the motion is surprisingly smooth. This is fun and something you should keep working on after the jam! :)

michael-feldman 2019-05-06 21:59

Cover art - check. controller support - check. Developer actually play tested and set high scores for me to beat - pending ...

joshanthony1990 2019-05-06 22:55

Beautiful graphics, you nailed it there.

Kudos on getting three tracks into the game. For me, I found it hard to go fast and stay away from the edges, which encouraged me to go slow and pretty much avoid using the boost. The sacrifice was a cool idea, but the gameplay discouraged me from wanting to use it.

Great job!

helen 2019-05-06 23:09

I liked the arctic world most. The design is great and it's fun to play. Only sound was missing :)

atmospherium 2019-05-06 23:39

This game is great, easily the most fun I've had with an LD entry so far. I loved racing games like this growing up where there were insane twists and turns in the track. The visuals were excellent (even the fire level that some people have complained about). My only complaint is difficulty being a bit high, but that's hardly a serious complaint. This is one of the few games that I'll think I'll go back and play from time to time (and see if I can beat your scores someday). Excellent work.

shredmer 2019-05-07 00:24

I really enjoyed playing this game. I think the difficulty is spot on, it is just the right challenge. Adding audio would make the experience much better. I would also suggest adding a really short map and measuring high scores into the hundredths or thousands of a second.

And I beat your Arctic World score with 48.2 :)

amymist 2019-05-07 04:05

I loved the environment, though it felt to me like the angle you turned at sped up too fast, so when I wanted to turn, I just had to do quick little taps on the button to avoid swerving into a wall. The fire world was actually my favorite!

pl4typus 2019-05-07 14:40

Hi, the game doesn't respond. I can't play it...

geckoo1337 2019-05-07 15:38

Hi. I played for a while and I liked your project - a good start so as to develop a wipeout clone (my youth). The main mechanic works well but I think respectfully that you could improve it. Racing circuits are amazing. I like the ethereal aesthetic and their simplicity - nothing can disturb player. I would like to see a ghost of my ship so as to rival against me, trying to beat my previous score. It’s not to hard to code - take a look at the video below. Also you should add a leaderboard online - it’s always a good thing. Don’t give up and continue to work on this project - it will become a fantastic game ++

PS : and please add a button to quit game :)

feips 2019-05-07 20:42

@pl4typus Where exactly are you stuck? Because on the main screen, you need to click on the names of the circuits to start them, I can't think of anything else.

feips 2019-05-07 20:43

@geckoo1337 Wow, thank you. I definetly want to continue on this project!

pl4typus 2019-05-07 20:59

@feips Hey yes it worked :confounded: Damn that difficulty ! But great feel :joy:

secretpocketcat 2019-05-08 10:32

The game looks, feels and controls great. The scheme is a bit weird (especially for the controller - I'd put gas and turbo on the shoulder/bumper buttons and or X/A). Anyway, I've never played F-Zero, but fondly remeber playing Wipeout on my PSP (the fat series 1000 one - I feel old :sob: ). Such a shame I'm so bad at it, but I can imagine it would feel even better if I wasn't trash at it  The simplistic style doesn't detract from the track, which is great, though you could dial down the bloom just a bit. There're a few visual quirks which you are probably aware of (flickering ship shadow, trails don't reset on restart, track shadow draw distance), but these are fairly minor. Such a shame about a lack of sound - I can imagine that a dramatic countdown, some pumping tunes and boost & misc SFX would add a lot to the experience, but without it it feels great, so good job.

feips 2019-05-08 11:20

@secretpocketcat Thank you. About the controller layout: I actually only used the default Unity axis, so you should be able to remap them on the launcher (Gas & breaking is vertical, steering is horizontal and turbo should be jump).

ratz 2019-05-09 17:06

Love the colors.

jlv 2019-05-09 21:29

You definitely managed to cram a lot of content in to this nice racing game ! Loved the colors and the track design. The principle is neat, too, but maybe some balancing is required.

Pros : - Absolutely gorgeous - These (diverse !) tracks are a joy to race on - Great take on the theme

Cons : - With the given amount of Turbo-Health, one lap would suffice in my opinion - I would not mind some placeholder audio to add to the mood

Overall, great work !

masterkrepta 2019-05-11 13:30

Way to make Rainbow Road actually fun ! I was suprised at how smoothly the camera follows the player.

This type of game is BEGGING for some music though. I would definitely keep working on this because it's insanely fun as it is already.

nnnikki 2019-05-12 18:39

Quite noice! I liked the gameplay, it felt good to whizz around and bang into everything  2 small nitpicks: the road was texture-less, so sometimes it was hard to judge the distance to a curve, and I didn't really see the life decreasing as you sped up. Good job though! It was fun.

omiya-games 2019-05-13 03:34

So...I had to play this game because I am indeed working on an F-Zero-like anti-gravity racing game (shameless self-promotion [here](https://omiyagames.itch.io/prototype-airwaves)). But anyways...

There are a few things this game does nail: the sense of speed is palpable, and the high-bloom, strong contrast minimalistic art are quite extraordinary. I did think given the speed of the game, the track itself felt too thin. This was particularly unfair in areas with many bends on the road. The minimalistic graphics also made it hard to predict when the next tight turn was coming, so it did make it difficult to stay on the middle of the road.

I think you're on the right path, but the game does need some polish here and there.

jordantanner 2019-05-13 09:04

@feips Really really nice job on this. I sucked, but maybe should've plugged in a controller. Definitely reminded me of listening to "Big Blue" theme song while playing F-Zero (that's what was playing in my head since there was no music). I felt the life penalty was a bit unforgiving when you hit the walls and when you use your boost, but maybe I didn't practice enough. Then again, for a Ludum Dare game, how long will people practice playing it? All in all, super solid entry, loved the graphics and racing theme, haven't seen much of that in LD.
