Hey, we had the same basic idea for game I see, the controls felt a bit hard though but it's classic for sure, great job on the compo!

tolmera 2016-12-12 22:08

Was fun. It was over a bit too quickly, I played through about five rounds before just being completely over run, which felt like only 30 seconds.

Otherwise the idea was fun, the music was pretty good too.

xesenix 2016-12-13 00:35

Version on ludumdare page doesnt work i have checked Itchio version. Fun game play but needs more balancing some time space between waves maybe some power ups for fighting bigger waves (for example after each wave you choose one of two upgrades or something like that)

batmanasb 2016-12-13 00:36

I really hate it when games make you spam a key to shoot. It should let you hold it down instead and fire on a timer! Also, pitch forks are a little too hard to dodge because of the player's speed.

Still a good entry though :) Just wish it has a little more polish.

djfariel 2016-12-13 01:27

Hearing music and sound effects on a compo is pretty awesome. I can tell that you work hard on this. I think that the controls would be much improved if the mouse aimed the attack. I know the shoot where you are pointing is an old classic, but I never much cared for it. We also did an arena style game. Nice work!

thatguyminib 2016-12-13 08:59

Pretty solid game. Controls were a bit tight and didn't feel good to play with.

yami-no-tenshi 2016-12-13 20:38

Ahahah, I really loved your mouth made sound design !!! It was really good and bring a nice touch of humor in the game ! Controls were indeed a bit tight :)

powerspark 2016-12-14 00:32

Nice idea, I think it's a bit to easy to die. The sounds were pretty good. Consider power ups and maybe reworking controls.

afinkyu_pheaky 2016-12-14 00:36

Liked it well enough, but it's a bit generic. A little variety would do this game wonders (someone suggested powerups).

liquidmedia 2016-12-14 00:38

GG I like the idea and it's a fun game, I would like to shoot the direction of the mouse pointer. Nice compo entry.

automatonvx 2016-12-14 01:09

thanks for all the comments, yeah i realise its way too hard and not at all well balanced, I ran out of time, in retrospect i should have prioritised that, but my first LD so just glad to have submitted at all in the end. For the controls and lack of mouse input it was (subconsciously) a zelda tribute, so there you go. Thanks for playing

wischutz 2016-12-14 13:54

I really enjoy to play your game! great job!

casevse 2016-12-14 21:07

Well executed, good work!

titomakanijr 2016-12-14 21:09

Good job on the compo man! Just a heads up I think you probably did the same thing I did at first with embedding you game. Try going to your edit game page on itch.io and go to distribute. You will see an embed tab which contains the actual link you want to embed in your LD page.

multiplexor 2016-12-14 21:28

Nice! I wish the shooting was a bit easier, but it's a cool arena game!

Maybe some hazzards on the arena would make it interesting!

Good work!

neontropics 2016-12-14 21:37

Cool game! I liked the gladiator audio. Cute graphics and solid gameplay, reminds me of Super Smash TV.

kingblork 2016-12-14 22:56

Good work, I like the 8 directions mouvement :)

aaranos 2016-12-15 02:08

I had a laugh because the player's lazer kind of looks like upvotes on reddit.

The player could use a bit of an increase in movement. Those pitchforks are fast as bullets compared to the player speed. Maybe some visual cue would help to alert when it is going to throw.

xclementx 2016-12-17 20:41

Well done simple little game !

mrnyarlathotep 2016-12-18 13:47

Like first comment says, I also had the same basic idea... I guess the theme was pretty suggestive for this!

Solid wave based sota-twinstick shooter base that you could build from if you wanted to expand this concept

sinclairstrange 2016-12-19 12:56

Man I got overrun so quickly and I felt like I wish I could aim with the mouse and not just my direction but overall it was very well made and actually extremely fun. Nice music and effects too! Great job, look forward to seeing more! ^^

mementogames 2016-12-20 22:09

Nicely done, guys.
The controls felt a little bit weird for me, but I got the hang of it easily. Overall, nice job!

simonhutchinson 2016-12-25 18:50

Nice little arena fighter here! I think your difficulty curve is really nicely set, but after 6 waves I was quickly overrun.

I had fun up until then!

rplnt 2016-12-28 16:11

The aiming was quite hard, but otherwise fun game, good work.

themonsterfromthedeep 2016-12-30 08:58

The audio in this was pretty charming - especially the guys laughing.

However, it was pretty difficult. I'm not entirely sure why - I think that it has to do with the fact that your fire rate and movement are both slow and you only get two hits before you die.

Also, for some reason, sometimes when I try to restart (by pushing space twice) I will immediately be dead, and have to restart again - is there some other way I'm supposed to restart?

keckles 2016-12-30 18:01

pretty good

mrshoestore 2016-12-31 16:18

controls are a little difficult for this type of game. For me, i'd like to see twin stick shooter controls, either with a gamepad or keyboard and mouse. that way you have some analog control in your movement.

fabsy 2017-01-02 02:45

I liked it but personally, I'd prefer if the shooting was done independently from the character's movement direction.

Nice effort on the audio effects for just 48h!

oddly-shaped-pixels 2017-01-02 11:22

That's a cool little game, for 48 hours it's really decent.
I love the fence sfx :D
I guess the game could gain quite a bit if you could fire and walk in different directions.

cerno_b 2017-01-02 21:34

Nice game, a similar idea to my LD35 entry: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-35/?action=preview&uid=83463

I love the custom sound effects.

This is a game that would greatly benefit from some of the ideas presented in the youtube video "The Art of Screenshake".

Good job.

cerno_b 2017-01-02 21:38

One addition: With a keyboard it is not possible to shoot diagonally in all directions because you have to press three keys at the same time and that doesn't always work well on many keyboards. Controller support would not have this issue.

yuigoto 2017-01-03 00:59

The idea's pretty fun, and the game's challenging factor starts to go up quite fast here. But I liked how the game progressed, and how waves came out. Though I died far too much with those trident guys. :P Audio really fits the game, the style and concept you've chosen for your game.

For this type of genre, I prefer to have a twin-stick mechanic for shooting. I know it adopts a classic style for shooting, etc., maybe I kinda got too used to twin-stick shooters :P.

Great work, nice one for compo! :)
