Fun little game, the sprites looked great and the audio was on point! Nice
This is pretty cool! You should make the bullets visible when fired though.
Nice entry, Graphics were very nicely stylized! I got really confused at first because I went left and thought I was supposed to be escaping the train. Spawning in the front train would probably help avoid confusion since the text is concealed until you go to the right.
I love the pixel art, especially the desert mountain backgrounds. Some feedback when you fire a shot and hit something would be nice, I feel like I could never tell if my shots were actually hitting the policemen or not.
Nice game! I loved the graphics
Nice graphics indeed, liked the style overall and agree that bullets maybe should be visible or a way to see where the shot went, I missed quite a bit, even though I thought I hit at those points. In general a nice game, liked it! :)
Great work! Love the sprites and the idea.
It seems like you're going for an old west theme, so I might rename the 'police' something more flavorful like 'deputies' or 'marshals'.
I had the same issue. Took me a bit before i realized i had to go right to keep the train running and not just try to jump off the back or something. Fun once i figured that out though!
Cool game. The audio effects were really nice. The encounters with the enemies was interesting. Trying to balance between cover, offense and feeding the engine with coal. It was not clear to me how much progress I had when fighting with the enemies (how much health the enemy has), neither how close I am to winning the game (e.g. a progress bar might be nice to have). Nevertheless, I enjoyed playing it :)
I like the cutesy artstyle and the thumpy/juicy sounds. I was expecting some huge red particles to come out of the police
If you decide to develop this further, I think this Ytube video will be helpful, which it was for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=216_5nu4aVQ
nice game, looks really cool. I wasn't too sure where i was firing, although the bullet impact effects told me i was probably missing my targets.
nice work, the art and sond are very good
@ishmandoo Oh my god! Thanks a lot!! I could never put my finger on why it sounded so weird, completely escaped my mind!
@hacktrout happy to help!
@mza I love GMTK! I can never tell if I should overly exaggerate things like camera shake and impactful sounds.
@whitefox I didn't have time to implement a proper goal other than staying alive so you just kinda play until you lose but you're right that there isn't a lot of communication or feedback.
Cool game. It fits theme, all good :p. Good Job!
Cool visulas make this game for me. However cover mechanic feels stiff. Otherwise - good game.
Awesome game! Love it!
The art is really nice, but I want to see it more. The camera could be a bit more zoomed in.
I like how the cover system works. Bullet spread is all over the place though.
Nice idea and really nice art! The feedback on the shooting is a bit hard to interpret though, and I didn't really understand the cover system. I got pretty far by just ignoring it and just firing and hoping. If I were to change one thing about this game it would probably be to have the enemies go down in one shot - maybe with an increased number of them to compensate.
Cool game!
Needed more feedback on whats happening on the game. Other than that, i liked the train movement and pixel art in general :)
Great game! The graphics look really nice and stay within a cool style, I think if the camera was a little more zoomed in then it would be easier to see what was going on. :) But all in all a fun game to play!x
Pretty cool! I like how the train cars become transparent. But I never got the hang of aiming.
Nice game, the graphics are really good, only criticism would be that the enemies seem to be way stronger than the player, maybe making the player a bit more powerful would make the game last a bit longer, and more fun to replay.
Really like the graphics.
So here we are again, partner... Another western game on this so called "game jam". Last Cactus is another great one, and it reminded me of my dear cactus Pete. I had fun too playing your game, but I missed that old sound of banjo and guitar of my golden days. Guess you didnt have a musician in your gang. I really like to hide from the cops, though I did nothing wrong (this time). Good game, fellas!
Audio, graphics and gameplay elements are cool idea, but there is a problem with knowing that you are going to hit an enemy while shooting, crosshair or line indicating where are you going to hit would be welcome addition.
I have to thank you for your mighty kind words @lairinlair, guess I'll have to go pay a visit to this Last Cactus character... till next time
Great gameplay and graphics! exciting game .
Text in the engine room seems too small and distorted. Otherwise great visuals and pretty interesting concept.
Nice game! Love the graphics ;)
Really neat game! Art and sound is good, and interesting take on the theme. I really enjoyed it! Great job!
I like the sounds! Also mechanics are simple but also easy to play. Great job.
Hey, the second train game I see on this Ludum Dare, haha. Looks kindoff the same. Engine works good!
I really like the cover mechanic in this game and graphics do their job well! It's a fun game that feels well polished. I especially like how the camera will move depending on which direction the player is facing, the transition is nice. Overall a nice and fun game, well done!
Felt like there was a lot of down time and then something happened the gun was pretty inaccurate, besides that I like the take on it and that you can't see what's inside a wargon before you enter it!
It's a nice game. Cool graphics and sound. My only issue is with the shooting. It seems difficult to aim? I'm just not hitting people or perhaps it's the cover. And also face-checking into trains and being punished immediately is no fun. Aside from that, it was a job well done!
Really nice game! Here is a video of me playing it:
https://youtu.be/SHj5rKJ_0uc
It was quite nice but the shooting was quite hard, I didn't really know if i was hitting the enemies when occasionally the bullet seemed to hit the roof even though i never pointed the mouse there. Shooting from behind cover was also very awkward as i just kept hitting tables then.
But other than that quite a nice game!
I love the pixel art and the audio, animation are really smooth ! I really enjoyed it, that's a nice game :) !
I like the idea and overal execution, however it evidently is not really complete.
I have killed all the police and kept going a while, but there doesn't seem to be an end or a goal, which is a shame.
Shooting doesn't have enough feedback, and I don't know whether I cannot hit the enemies because I am too far, because my aiming is poor, or because I am in cover. I would add lines of where the bullets go, make the hit effect a bit more visually distinct.
Nice game! It would be nice to have more visualization of a shooting process, so a player could feel more control over it. I was kind of shooting blindly sometimes because I could not tell if my aiming was bad or I just hit an obstacle. Although it added more of a challenge which I liked! = )
This is really a fun experience. I liked the pixel art style of the game and the bullets UI was an awesome concept. Overall its a really fun game. Good Luck for your upcoming projects.
Nice feel to the player controller and shooting. Reminds of Soldat which is also a great game.
Well done, although a bit difficult for me :)
good mechanics with the crate, but it's hard to touch the enemy.
Nice entry! The polish it has is impressive and the art are great. However, I'm not sure if he game had a goal, I didn't see a point system nor an end location that the train arrives to. The shooting isn't really clear, was hard to tell where my bullets were going. Has a lot of potential!
I like this take on the theme. Constantly having two juggle both your own safety and the engine felt nice.
However, I found the game a bit unclear in its objective (What is the goal? Kill as many deputies as possible?) and the visual feedback was a bit lacking (I don't know when i can shoot them, I don't know when they can shoot me, i barely know if i hit them and stuff like that). Only other problem was that the player seemed to have very low friction which was weird.
I would suggest changing the levels of crouching to decrease in the same way that they increase, meaning that pressing DOWN one time leaves you looking, and pressing it again makes you take full cover.
Graphics were awesome, good job! Bullet sound was also good. The atmosphere felt right, and adding dust and smoke would make it even better (but that's beyond the scope of a jam game).
Overall, great game!
Is there a goal of the game? Any ending? I tried different approaches and found out that staying in an engine room is pretty safe tactics, police will come, but it takes a long time and there's no cover for them. Got bored before anything happened though, optimized the fun outta game again :) Also I had no idea where am I shooting, why am I missing or hitting what I was aiming for (I was pointing to policeman with my cursor, still particles spawned on the roof, except the times they did not and I actually hit for no apparent reason). Reload button would be nice.
I'd suggest the game starts in the engine room so that you know it is somehow important - I didn't notice it at all on my first playthrough (I usually go in blind first, then read the description for the other ones) - and have finite amount of coal and have it spawn in the train somewhere so player has to go out there.
The cover mechanic is pretty neat and I like the idea that you can gradually get into and out of cover, that it is not instant, sure can be built upon! Also when stuff worked (like hitting enemies) it actually felt pretty satisfying!
