Loved the artstyle for this, the animation's are great, the little robot is super cute, I just couldn't fully figure out how to play the game properly (I just seemed to lose constantly) and would drop the gun all the time. Still looked amazing with some good audio too
I had no idea what was going on, but I had a good time doing it lol Does pushing up not aim upwards? I kept on dropping my laser cannon. Very good sound/art and technically must have been challenging with the destruction. Well done, strong entry.
Very nice kockback on the laser and the game feel overall. The visuals ware amazing!
Yooo, solid work here. The music and art design were my favorite parts. My gosh does that laser pack a punch. Not sure if dropping the laser was necessary after firing it, but it did give it some extra punch. More than once I lost the laser on the first level and had to just jump around. Hope you enjoyed the jam. Cheers!
This has the best game over screen I have ever seen!
Nice work! Fun game and really cool laser gun:D
"What do you run on, Rockette Morton?"
Uh, I also couldn't quite tell what was going on (I played it on my phone), but the art and polish is really nice! I scored 11, I think. I might come back and try and play it with a keyboard before I rate it, the mobile controls are a little difficult.
Crazy, chaotic and fast-paced - loving the concept and energy of the game. I suck at it, but that's to be expected. :D
Gotta be honest, after all the Blender vids you did recently, I fully expected you to jump into 3D this time. It does not matter though, as the presentation of your game is - as always- brilliant!
I enjoyed the knock back from the laser and all of the juice you added to the game. The art was really nice and so were the sounds. I too had a hard time figuring out how to avoid loosing. My average game was under a minute. I also was dropping the gun when pressing up. I think this was to try and throw the gun up to go back up a level? I wish there was a bit easier starter level so I could learn how to play. I would like to play it again if you keep working on it!
This game seems really well polished. I really enjoyed the aesthetic and the colors and all the effects. Controls felt solid too. Unfortunately, I was really confused about what to do once I got to the bottom. I think maybe some sort of explanation/tutorial would go a long way. I just didn't really understand the objective of the game.
I'm not entirely sure what I was supposed to do or how to play. It seemed like the rocks just crashed through all the levels instantly and then maybe I had to shoot the portal?? I would get to the game over screen in maybe 10 seconds every thing.
Despite my confusion, the game has some great visuals. The pixel art and animations are really beautiful!
@manan , @diego-escalante @cassowary @tellyhead & @squaxcom - I made a how-to now -

This had so much personality haha. Despite the mechanic being a little limited (only being able to fire sideways), it did fit the theme (the rocks were going to break through eventually), it was a tight little game and I had fun! The artwork was exceptionally good, and the music and SFX fit well.
Watching your playthrough helped some, but I understood it well enough from one or two plays myself. The "butterfingers" limitation didn't really make sense to me. Maybe it added a bit of challenge? I noticed in your video, too, you may have added upward firing as well?
Anyway, I appreciate the detail you put into this! By most measures a technical achievement!
Good game, very fun! The size of the screen was a bit uncomfortable for me. I think that if they increased the resolution and the whole map was seen at the same time, the gameplay would improve a lot. The pixel art is great, I loved the work they did there. Great post, great job!!
Really great artwork! A bit chaotic and difficult to understand in the beginning though.
lol, great graphics but am very confused how to play properly, especially in bottom area
This was a bit challenging to figure out since you can't aim and jumping throws the gun, but once you get going it's a fun core mechanic. I really like the visual style
It feels like there's a lot of complexity here (like with the different layers and gun dropping or even jumping for that matter) that doesn't come into play that much when the gameplays mostly "Is asteroid coming from left? Shoot left. Is right? Shoot right". I think that's why a lot of people seem confused with such a deceptively simple game. All that's to say that if the game had actually been more complex, like these elements served more of a mechanical purpose, it might have actually clicked more.
Negativity aside, I dig the atmosphere of this game. Love the big bold numbers that come up for the final countdown. I think the colour palette could do with some more variance in tone/luminosity (particularly separating the background from terrain) but otherwise it works well.
Also the character looks great!
Cool little game! Takes a bit to get used to - only being able to lazer completely vertically was a little unintuitive. Nice work on the art and sound!
This was pretty unique game, the gameplay was quite fun. Although I felt like dropping the gun whenever you jump was a little annoying since there is no purpose to the jump in the first place. I feel like removing the jump entirely would be better. Other than that, the pixel art is quite nice and I like the design of the rock. Good job!
Ooh, I was looking forward to this one from your blog posts!
I like how the giant rocks break down the floors. It is satisfying to see the floor break up from giant tiles to smaller tiles to even smaller tiles.
Picking up the gun was something I didn't realize I needed to do in my first playthrough, and I thought I was misunderstanding the controls. Then when I launched the gun into the air after jumping, I found myself wishing the character would automatically pick it up instead of requiring me to move more to get it. It felt clumsy, but I don't know if it was a good clumsy that added challenge on purpose or a bad clumsy in that the controls could have been tighter.
I liked the special effects. The laser is powerful but limited, and I liked that. The knock-back also added some challenge, making it important to know where to stand relative to any breaches. When I was on a lower part of a particular floor, I was delighted and horrified to discover that the laser also destroys the floor tiles.
I laughed when I thought I found a good spot to stand, only to discover that there was a massive pile of smaller rocks offscreen that caused a huge problem when a breach let them all loose.
I wish I had a minimap so I could see all levels or at least the portal to see how things are going. And I wish I had a way to jump back up to a previous level, especially if I left my gun up there.
The audio was serviceable, and I loved the sound effect for jumping.
Very original game, should make a sequel though. 10/10
I enjoyed playing your take on the theme. The physics and sounds were fun. Took me a few very quick runs to figure out what I was doing. Great creation!
omg - this game just popped up. Love the pixel art and the Pang-ish idea. Great job!
the art is awesome but it's really hard to understand what one must do
This was put together really well. I wish the cannon pushed you around when aiming horizontally like vertically for consistency
i loved this one! great audio and retro feel, smooth character controls. just didn't get why there was a countdown on gameover :p is there a way to cheat death or something?
My scores: 11, 21, 52, 54, 1:39 Really nice art, the game was a little frustrating but I think that's by design. Good feeling gameplay. I will say losing the gun when you jumped made jumping seem like a bad idea, also it's possible to lose the gun at a higher level than you are at, which kinda dooms you.
Still very well done though.
@joe40001 - thanks for playing! The fixed version changes that so you keep the lazer now - if you wanted to play the less frustrating version haha
Unfortunately I can't get either version to work for me. The laser doesn't fire at all until I drop it and then all the banked up shots fire off, which doesn't seem to be the intention. Despite that, I really like the art!
Thanks for playing @evan-minto - not sure what happens for you, maybe the browser? I've tested on android / chrome /firefox and apple safari.
