LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Phil Alone by Gabriel Dias Oliveira de Almeida 2020-10-06T01:02:57Z

I really liked this! I see now that there were endings, I never got one I don't think, and I played for about 4 days, just doing the same task, so maybe make that a bit easier to get. The story intrigued me, and I was disappointed not to see an ending :(, even though the game itself is not that fun, I wanted to keep playing in order to find out what happened (no offense). Great job! Feel free to rate my submission as well :)

Phil Alone by Gabriel Dias Oliveira de Almeida 2020-10-06T11:10:23Z

Alright so I played it again, and ended up jumping out a window. I accidently interacted with the closet, and then I realized I could do that with everything. Great game!

The Loop by thesnide 2020-10-06T18:50:54Z

Super simple, incredible that you made this in 3 hours. But, saying that, I would've liked to hear some sounds and/or music, and have the rings not spawn inside the player at times. the first pico-8 game I've seen, great job! EDIT: It's lose, not loose btw :)

The Loop by thesnide 2020-10-06T19:00:55Z

@thesnide well, if I remember correctly, pico-8 has its own audio editor built in. I'm not sure if you can import sounds, but if you can, this tool called bfxr https://www.bfxr.net/ is encouraged for Ludum Dare. As for music, if you can import files, bosca ceoil https://boscaceoil.net/ is pretty intuitive. Even if you aren't that good at audio, I think audio would've made this game 30 times better, it just adds to the overall atmosphere. I kept expecting there to be some feedback when I collected something (besides just growing bigger). Great game though!

The Loop by thesnide 2020-10-14T13:55:33Z

@thesnide nice!

Enclosed by Daniel Jenikovský 2020-10-07T17:47:01Z

Easiest 5 stars I've ever given, this blew my mind, I won't be surprised when this wins, great job! The only thing holding it back is how laggy it is :( my laptop runs 16 gb of ram and the game ran at 15 fps. Also, there is one bug, if you reset the level in "loop mode" everything is still gray. Otherwise, excellent job! I loved playing this

A Loop to Save The World by Crazybot 2020-10-05T23:19:59Z

I unfortunately couldn't play this, as it UE4, like you said, asked for extra perms or something like that, but I still gave you a fair rating and such. This game looks incredible, and I'm sure is also really fun to play. Keep up the great work :)

A Loop to Save The World by Crazybot 2020-10-06T00:12:30Z

@Crazybot if I knew I would help, but I'm a Unity dev. Mind rating my submission?

Warehouse Madness by Dexort 2020-10-06T16:39:52Z

I was looking forward to playing this, but the file I downloaded didn't include an executable, just a .gz file...

Warehouse Madness by Dexort 2020-10-06T17:33:32Z

@Dexort I redownloaded, and it works perfectly! I am in love with the graphics and just the overall smoothness. The forklift feels like a forklift should, camera movement is awesome, the physics are great, I really like this game, great job! Feel free to rate my submission as well :)

TIME TO DANCE! by Savvy Community 2020-10-07T17:39:13Z

Awesome game! Came from your blog post. It took a while for me to figure out what was happening, but after the first couple rounds I really got into it! The only thing that might make this better, is making the dancers ragdolls, I feel like that would be really funny XD. Best rating I've given a game so far, awesome job!

in. loop. out. by bomdiajj 2020-10-05T23:11:51Z

This is for sure a unique game, it fits the theme very well, but I couldn't get past the second level. Also, the mouse sensitivity is wayyyyy too high to start. Nice job though!

Sinner's Hotel by ElllaDee 2020-10-07T17:25:46Z

This was nice! The graphics are beautiful, and the idea is nice. But, the gameplay is boring to start, and I'm reading that there was an ending, but I clicked off before that happened. Also, I see you are using Unity, so, in your animation transitions, change exit time to 0, and uncheck use exit time, that is what is causing your buggy movement. Also, change your canvas scaling mode from constant pixel size to scale with screen size, as the text is sooooo tiny. Otherwise great job!

Loopfield by MikoziQ 2020-10-06T17:37:36Z

Simple, but nice! I enjoyed it, maybe use a different font other than the default, just to make it look better. And, make the hit sound quieter, and set the pitch to something random within a set range just so the player isn't hearing the same sound every time. Nice job! Feel free to check out my submission :)

A long day by Higgs 2020-10-06T17:46:48Z

I got an error when I tried to install, so I couldn't play unfortunately :( itcherror.png This is a different game but the same error

A long day by Higgs 2020-10-06T22:57:47Z

@Higgs yes sir

A long day by Higgs 2020-10-07T11:02:13Z

@Higgs alright, later today I will try it again

Wyle's Loop by Tryston 2020-10-06T00:38:58Z

Great job for your first game! I see you are using Unity, so I can give you a few pointers. First, change the canvas scaling mode from "constant pixel size" to "scale with screen size" so that your menu takes up most of the screen. Next, get rid of the UI that follows the player, it is distracting. Finally, when I dash I can go through walls, so in your movement script, instead of using transform.position to move your player either use Rigidbody.AddForce or set the rigidbody's velocity, or use Rigidbody.MovePosition I might seem like I'm being overly critical, but I just want to help you :) Feel free to rate my submission as well :)

Wyle's Loop by Tryston 2020-10-06T01:04:23Z

@Tryston in that case, increase the edge radius of the walls' colliders, and change the player rigidbody collision detection to continuous.

GravLoop by AvatarGreggles 2020-10-06T18:19:59Z

This is nice! I enjoyed the music, and the graphics looked good. The game was fun, the next step would be to improve the camera movement, because when I jump, I can't see what's under me. Great job though!

Time Wizard by E.E-Wick 2020-10-06T17:15:25Z

I love the aesthic and graphics, hitting the enemy was very satisfying, great job! The only thing I would say is that I don't see the tie to the theme that much, although it is there. Feel free to rate my submission as well, great job!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T01:05:34Z

@RainyDay2800 thank you for the feedback! I obviously can't change that now, but will for sure make sure to pay special attention to balancing, maybe by getting some playtesters. I was pressed for time, so that just wasn't an option this time. Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T01:08:08Z

@firetwoonenine thanks for the feedback! (The game you mentioned was Johnny Upgrade I presume). I have gotten feedback on the balancing and will for sure pay more attention to that next time, and I was afraid that somebody would notice the stickiness, it is because I used the same physics material for the whole collider, and I didn't want the top to be slippery, so the sides took it in the shorts. Maybe next time I could give the player a material with lots of friction. Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T10:58:43Z

@tryston yeah, I have heard that a couple times, thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T17:43:00Z

@Mekuri thanks for the feedback! The sticky platforms were a sacrifice, and not necessarily intentional/ideal. Maybe some kind of treadmill would give the speed upgrade some more power, and of course making combat a bigger part of the game would increase the need for health. Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T18:00:47Z

@Dexort Thanks for the feedback! The enemy is pretty stupid but like you said, it's funny so I left it in :) I like the idea of getting rid of the first coin, and thank you for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T18:16:01Z

@Malle thanks for the feedback, I think your idea would work perfectly. Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T18:20:49Z

@thesnide I will be posting a devlog here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjHNkH_KPvvHCwZEo22EzSg/ but I actually just created a webGL version on the itch.io page

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T18:29:09Z

@avatargreggles I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm regretting not paying more attention to that, but I might actually try and fix that now. Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T18:47:07Z

@avatargreggles I managed to fix it :)

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T18:47:42Z

@avatargreggles thank you so much for the feedback and for playing! :)

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T18:47:59Z

@thesnide of course I'll try yours, thanks for playing :)

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T19:06:37Z

@Rossmoff I'm glad you enjoyed, thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T19:07:58Z

@EnzoUP thanks for the feedback! The map was rushed at the last minute, and if I had more time, I would've added more enemies and weapons to give the health some meaning, as I spent a decent amount of time creating modular systems for both. Could you elaborate more on what you mean by indicators? Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T19:09:18Z

@thesnide I'm glad you liked! I think going for jump maxed out, and speed and time upgraded halfway would get you the fastest. Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T22:58:59Z

@EnzoUP ah I see, I really like that idea, thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T22:59:15Z

@eugenik I'm glad you enjoyed, thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T22:59:59Z

@mikoziq Thanks for the feedback! Is the character slippery at high speeds, or just at any speed? Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T23:00:30Z

@zashers It was very much inspired by Johnny Upgrade, thanks for your feedback, and thank you for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T23:25:10Z

@ruddgasm Thanks for the feedback! I agree that I should've paid more attention to level design, as that first coin was easy to farm early in the game. By floaty controls, do you mean you had speed and jump maxed out? Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T23:26:27Z

@Fupi I'm glad you loved it! By too close to the edge do you mean on the y or the x? Because it was my first time trying to create custom camera controls with a dead zone and damping. And yes, I agree I should've paid more attention to level design. Thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T23:27:01Z

@twilight-world I agree that the jump was for the most part the only meaningful stat, thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T23:43:54Z

@Fupi alright, thank you for the feedback!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-07T11:04:08Z

@Mog13 Thank you for the feedback! I was going for that whole show not tell, thanks for playing!

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-19T12:38:55Z

@satolas thanks for playing! I've never worked with controllers, so I would have to probably watch a tutorial or read some documentation, but I can for sure try for controller input on my next game. On the topic of space instead of W to jump, I personally like W better, but I could for sure make both as options. And sure, I'll try your game! Thanks for watching my video, twas my first time making a devlog, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I appreciate your kind words, and I'm always open to suggestions for videos and games, I'm working on a devlog rn, so make sure you subscribe with notifs :) "Also I wanted to tell you I really like your logo it's super cool:" Thanks! I drew it in krita, although I have transitioned more into photoshop now. Thanks for taking the time to play the game and watch the video, as well as commenting and giving feedback :)

Stuck on the Train by Conneli 2020-10-06T16:36:02Z

I was looking forward to playing this, but itch.io had issues installing it :(

Stuck on the Train by Conneli 2020-10-06T17:06:21Z

@Conneli itcherror.png I am using the itch.io app, I just tried it again and got the same error, yet I can now play it, it's a really awesome game! I love the casual feel, the music, and the character personalities! Really creative! A couple things though, first, the colliders on the train seats were too big, my character was a decent distance away and they were preventing him from moving. Also, when you interact with the characters, the dialogue pop ups sometimes overlap with another. Other than that, really great gameplay, and I also really enjoyed the art and music if you made it. Feel free to rate my submission as well!

Commuter by Aran Ink 2020-10-06T17:28:58Z

It's incredible that you finished this game in only 72 hours! I love this spin on a TD game, and I really enjoyed it. A couple things though, the WebGL version runs poorly on my laptop with 16 gb of ram. When I downloaded it, I got stuck on the loading screen so I wasn't able to fully enjoy it :/ Finally, I felt the tie to the theme was a little weak, but I saw that the cars looped around, so I guess it's there. Really great game, with some more content this could be a really great game, great job with the models if you made those as well. Feel free to rate my submission :)

INSIDE THE LOOP by aerloth 2020-10-19T12:55:57Z

This is really cool! The aesthetic is beautiful, for sure the best looking game I have played this jam. The whole gravity changing thing is incredibly hard to get right, and to be honest, felt a little strange at times. Saying that, you got it very very close to perfect, and I really enjoyed the game. Great job!

Airstralian by ThunderSalt 2020-10-07T17:30:20Z

The artwork is incredible, and the polish is unreal, but the game is nearly impossible to play for me, as my machine runs with 16 gb of ram and was running the game at 10 fps. A simple fix (I found personally) for Unity games is to go to project settings > player > and uncheck use default resolution. Great job though!
