Good and bad here. Graphics: great, movement: great, music: great, mood: great. Controls: not good, very realistic movement and controls but not easy or intuitive to use Gameplay: not very fun or exciting, I can't find any places to put boxes Theme: I don't really know about this one, I don't see anything repeating or in a loop. Overall: Need to be more satisfying, maybe SFX and particles and way easier.
Cheers!
The 3D effect is incredible, great job!

This game was fun and it was pleasing to look at and play, i like the controls and grapghics for sure. took me a minute to get the hang of what i was meant to do.

I did not figure I would have this much fun driving a virtual forklift. After getting used to the controls, they and the game physics are very satisfying. The environment changing upon moving boxes is a nice touch. That is also one catchy beat ;) I think a small thing like a counter, some sort of HUD could add a nice addition, just something to keep track of progress. I'm also so used to Escape being pause that I unintentionally threw myself back to the main menu screen twice.
Very satisfying movement and cool graphics. I enjoyed playing your game.
Once I got stuck after picking up a box :-(

The art gives me flashback to the good old days of GTA 1-2, really nice job :)

@pierrens We were heavilly inspired by GTA, so you guessed right ;)
I liked this game and had more fun driving around the packages then I expected, I could see myself playing more of this, if I could figure out what to do in the game. I have tried swapping places with the green and red crates but I get locked in. Please give me a pointer to what to do. Thanks for a fun little game.

Loved the graphics and that you made the controls realistic. Having operated fork lifts myself, I know these things can be wonky as hell! I quit however when I got stuck with a non-colored box I picked up. Couldn't put it back down or move, only option was to restart for me. A few collisions you'll want to get fixed there, other than that, great work!

@Skiwee Thanks for feedback! I didn't have enough time for SFX and other stuff. Barelly made it in time, had to go to work on monday =( But still, we're happy about how that game turned out for our effort. Still are many things to add, but I'm satisfied

@fc85057 thanks a lot! Coding and tweaking forklift driving took most of the time. This is exactly what I focused on, I'm glad you appreciated it! =D

@henrik-ganard Well, thanks! It's pleasure to hear that) At start you need to take red box to the left of you and bring it to the red area in the right side of warehouse. To take or put boxes you need to be fully stoped. Hope you'll enjoy the rest of the game! =)

@c42 hey, thanks! This was unexpected =D I'm glad you've liked the controls. The thing about collisions... I've not used any physics engine, library (like box2d) or standart GM motion functions. All physics and collisions was writen by hand, so I had quite hard time fixing problems. Not all of them i've managed to fix, but had to stop somewhere... At least the game is not freezing in limbo right now, so that's a good thing i guess XD
Nice game, Controls are nice and responsive and the music was good. Just needs some SFX to be a fully polished game.

@n8dev hey! We couldn't find an issue, but anyway - I just recompiled the project on GMS-2, so you now can play our game for sure. Also, it's a big performance boost for the game, so hope you'll return and try it!

@Dexort I redownloaded, and it works perfectly! I am in love with the graphics and just the overall smoothness. The forklift feels like a forklift should, camera movement is awesome, the physics are great, I really like this game, great job! Feel free to rate my submission as well :)

@redunca hahaha thanks a lot XD I'm working for one of the biggest companies with one of the biggest warehouses in my city as a Database Administrator. So I used to see this forklift races time to time, very funny comment =D
Big plus for the music & the graphics but the gameplay feels a bit lacky of something marking Would drift in my worklift headbangging to a killin music again

@endeavour2150 thanks for feedback! Sure, played myself a lot and it feels like it needs something that could bring it closer to racing game. Like oponents, racetrack with obstacles. The original idea was to record anouncments and comment on player's actions like in some stupid tv show. I think' it has it's potential)

Most satisfying virtual forklift I've ever driven!
That being said, there was a lot of empty space where you're just kinda driving around with no real challenge. Dunno if there was a fail state at all in the game. I'd love to see that forklift in a more action-packed environment!

@kirstu thanks a lot! Heart warming to see all those comments about forklift handling) And yeah, the map was kinda rushed, so it may be buggy or confusing. Most of the time I spend tweaking movement code. And I strongly agree about more action and fast-pace gameplay. That was an initial idea, but we didn't have enough time. But I'm looking forvard to develop it further. ;)
The graphics are really good and I don't care to much about no sound effects, a lot of people seem to like the forklift controls. I couldn't get behind them and I keep getting stuck. When I was going though it was fun.
Really solid looking graphics with very enjoyable music. I found the gameplay to be pretty enjoyable.
I love the music and the graphics but I struggled so much with the controls, I just could not get the lift to go where I wanted it to.

This was a lot of fun to romp around in. The movement feels very good, and are those 3D models in GMS!? I will have to look into that because damn they look goooooood.
wolfier
2020-10-07 02:31
@babyking if I were to take a guess its most likely 5 different instances working together to make it look 3d since as far as I know GMS doesn't have a z so it would have to be done by hand.
I will say that I think this actually gives me a solution to a problem in another project of mine, I'd just have to figure out how to pull it off, and I have two theories already.

@BabyKing @wolfier Thanks! =D
I'm not using any 3d functions. It's all 2d. For the shelves and non-movable boxes: no, there are no 5 instances, just one per object. It all happening in draw event. I have 2 scripts calculating upper points of boxes depending on distance from the center of view to the actual coordinates of corner points of an object. Then another script draws the box from 5 primitives based on those calculated points. And movable objects, like boxes, wheels and the forklift itself - made using a tehnique called Sprite stacking. Basically, I did not used any real 3d and any real physics. I don't know, why tho. Maybe dont felt like it at the time)

@sophiemae0 thanks for the feedback! I think that this kind of controls highly depends on players initial expirience. My girl was struggling too at first, cause she is not used to this kind of games, but as she played more - she became to learn more and did better job handling the forklift. Friends, who had an expirience - had no problems, but I think the game anyway needs a tutorial or training stage.
I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection
First game maker game i played on this jam (besides mine):) Looks nice and controls good, great job!
Very impressive graphics for a game jam game, was a lot of fun wish more games would be like this during jams... step above, good job.

The music was great, and the graphics were great. I saw a blog post of yours and the graphics drew me in. I had some fun wandering the labyrinth trying to find where I should put down my box, until I finally ended up able to drop it off right across the way. The controls were hard to manage with the camera fixed like that. I think having the camera rotation follow the lift's rotation (so when you press forward, you go forward in camera view) would be really helpful. I put the red box in the red zone, picked up a green box, then got trapped in a small space. I felt like the scene in Austin Powers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_A66lAAMDM

@testuser ahaha that's funny =D. About camera - camera follows the movement of lift, noticeable but not too much. Tested this a lot. Forklift rotating very fast, so I picked the middleground for camera where it was managable and still not nauseating. Thanks for the feedback)

Camerawork, driving and those 3d effects are really cool and made me explore more. But flow droped down pretty quickly. Adding a little bit more variety to the gameplay will make this game a lot better.

@sayuri thanks) Yeah, game needs more variety, we didn't have enough time unfortunately =( Focused more on visual aesthetic and driving physics.
I kind of misunderstood the objective. I thought the green crates were like "ghost" "objective" crates, telling you where to put the red ones. So outside of that, I really enjoyed it. 3D with gamemaker is miserable (or it was many years ago when I did it) so I commend you for that. I enjoyed the controls of the forklift, and the labyrinth to drive through.
