LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Down Below by NicMagnier 2018-12-05T22:50:10Z

I agree with what others said about the level design: it's really cool that you were able to build the levels such that they each felt different when going down vs. up. Reducing the hearts was a good way to scale the difficulty as the game went on and the mechanics were learned. Nicely done!

The Fallen Prince by TwinGhosts 2018-12-04T04:27:40Z

Overall, great game. A bit easy, but the mechanics are on point, the art looks great, and the game was very fun. Thanks for taking the time to make this!

The Last Sheepdog by Evan Leibman 2018-12-04T04:49:40Z

Unfortunately I was unable to get the dog to bark in level 3 in the ZIP version, and the EXE version wanted Admin permissions, so I was unable to play the game.

The Way Home by Xyterix 2018-12-04T08:00:20Z

This game reminded me a lot of Hollow Knight, which is a great game, if quite hard. And this one is as well. I had no problems with the controls, only with mastering the mechanics, which is exactly what I would expect from a precise platformer.

LD45 — Start with nothing

All Is Well by MKnooihuisen 2019-10-10T01:34:22Z

@brokenmirrormedia We noticed that. If you only tap to aim in a certain direction, the rotation speed doesn't quite let you make it all the way around in a reasonable time. If you move in a given direction for a while, you end up facing that way after a second or two, but unfortunately that makes it difficult to kite if you have to move toward the enemies.

@swordishmage Yeah, we had planned on an upgrade system and more skills, but we didn't have time to implement it. The cooldown of 1.5 seconds is probably a bit much, but we ran out of time to balance it. Glad you enjoyed the puns, though!

All Is Well by MKnooihuisen 2019-10-24T17:48:47Z

@patvanmackelberg Yeah, somehow that bug was re-introduced somewhere. We had fixed it at one point by lowering the height of the throne - not sure how it worked its way back in.

You found nothing. by atraxgames 2019-10-24T17:46:44Z

An interesting little clicker game. The beginning was quite amusing and the things found were funny as well. Didn't seem to do much after the dwarf (which was a fun addition). Good luck on future development!

Meet Meow by Kappa.B 2019-10-16T17:09:29Z

Overall, a very interesting concept that fit the theme decently well. The mechanics of the game could have been a bit more fleshed out, but for being made in a weekend, it worked pretty well.

Buried Things by Skyeward 2019-10-09T20:59:05Z

Very fun. I always enjoy puzzle games. The humor at the start was fantastic. The graphics were really solid as was the music. Glad I could find everything. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

wallpunch by Aurel300 2019-10-16T20:46:14Z

Very interesting idea. It was a little buggy, but considering the scale of what you were doing, I'm not surprised. I liked the mechanics and it was fun to play. Would be interesting to see a game like this with some clearer objectives (perhaps something in the vein of Minecraft-style achievements?)

Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

Stranded by kleinzach 2019-10-08T00:55:04Z

This game was really enjoyable to play. Graphics looked great - everything fit together well and felt like it belonged in the same game. Very relaxing, smooth movement, and the journal was hilarious. The day/night cycle might be a bit fast, but otherwise the overall ambiance of the game was great.

Mage in Exile by Nikolay Zapolnov 2019-10-09T02:40:33Z

Very challenging but that made it all the more satisfying when I was able to win. The art style is great. The story of the game offers a good premise. A bit of balancing could help - it was basically impossible to use up all of your mana - but it was enjoyable. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream last night!

The Greatest Game in the World by AhmenX 2019-10-16T20:14:17Z

"What is this? The Matrix yard sale?" - quote of the day

This game was absolutely hilarious! I was laughing out loud constantly. So much fun! The game itself worked pretty well and any bugs were covered up by the fact that the game within the game was supposed to be sort of buggy.

And that ending - wow! Absolutely brilliant! Your writer(s) were fantastic.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us on stream!

Untitled Ghost Game by mgoadric 2019-10-09T02:24:30Z

Cute game. I loved the ending. Glad you didn't decide to go with a dark one. Thanks for sharing it with us on the stream last night!

Reboot Royale by Webox 2019-10-23T20:31:23Z

@webox Not sure how rare that bug is - it seemed to happen to me a few times while I was trying to play. However, I was eventually able to beat it. Overall, a novel concept and an interesting interpretation of the theme. The controls were a bit buggy, but the AI was interesting (how the players kept attacking each other). Neat idea!

Welcome to Nowhere by AdroitConceptions 2019-10-24T19:20:37Z

@adroitconceptions The audio was quite amusing, both the song and the sword "swish" noise, as was the animation of the "undefined tentacle monsters." Impressive that you were able to make this in just 12 hours. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream. Nice done!

Tactical Bodybuilding by SuperTibbles 2019-10-09T02:48:14Z

Cool concept, although the controls seemed a little buggy. The graphics and animation were great. I wouldn't have expected anything like this from a sandbox game, but it was fun to play. Thanks for sharing it with us on the stream last night!

Broke af by coachsisyphus 2019-10-09T02:22:36Z

Graphics looked great. The intro was interesting. That shifting light-post was a fun touch. The game portion of the game felt like it had a good difficulty level. Thanks for sharing it with us on the stream last night!

Delta Test Site by Derek Volker 2019-10-16T18:08:55Z

This game looks really nice. I like the minimal use of bright colors against a mostly gray background. While the controls made the final boss fight a bit difficult, I really like the concept of the game. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

MOON by pikachurian 2019-10-09T02:43:37Z

Challenging but fun. The crafting controls took a bit of getting used to. The game could possibly benefit from a bit of balance work - the rareness of the redjelly meant I was never able to heal before I died. However, I liked the idea and the art style was nice. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream last night!

King of Nothing by notapixelstudio 2019-10-16T18:51:31Z

Great concept. As someone who plays chess somewhat regularly, it took me a minute to get used to the idea that I could dodge pieces after moving, but once I got that rhythm down (no pun intended) it was quite a fun game. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

King of the Goo by BenPeterson 2019-10-09T19:58:32Z

Good game. Reminded me a lot of the cell stage of Spore, but I actually liked the DNA mechanic better than just getting new parts wholesale - it was interesting to mix and match and try to figure out how to make good parts.

Never Ending Entropy by CodeKoto 2019-10-23T18:56:42Z

Well done. This fit the theme very well all around, both from the sense of starting with no abilities gameplay-wise and also in the sense of you start in a universe with no space, no time, no change, etc.

The only real complaint I have is that the dialogues could get in the way of the game sometimes. Maybe have each one only display the first time? That way bumping into one of the purple lights during combat won't stop the game multiple times.

But otherwise the combat felt satisfying and you did a good job on the progression - it felt satisfying to grow more powerful, but the more powerful enemies were still a threat even as the weaker ones become insignificant.

Overall, a very good game. Thanks for sharing it with us on the stream!

Spellchain by ixuz 2019-10-09T02:28:15Z

Fun concept. Unfortunately my computer wasn't quite able to handle some of the combos - the splitting bombs can stack up really fast, but I still enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream last night!

The beginning of the end by Thomas_Bringer 2019-10-24T18:33:41Z

I enjoyed the puzzle aspect of the game and the graphics looked really nice. The art style felt consistent throughout and I liked the animation. My only real complain was that moving diagonally up or down was a bit awkward. It made the game take a bit longer because I kept unintentionally moving sideways. But overall the level design was really good, so the mistakes only ever made me have to backtrack once. Overall, good job!

Soundscapes by Kaish 2019-10-16T18:04:58Z

Interesting idea. I am fairly certian I have never played an audio-based "find the difference" game. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

Faze by Xenoxygene 2019-10-09T02:31:51Z

Absolutely beautiful! This game was such a joy to play. Excellent concept. Great artwork. Nice gameplay mechanics. I love how intuitively the opening explains the game to the player - it's something I could stand to do better in the future. Thank you so much for sharing this with us on stream last night. I'd hate to have missed it among all the other games - it's totally worth playing!

Nothing is my car ! by T-Bo 2019-10-24T18:36:14Z

A very interesting take on the theme. Overall, I really enjoyed the game. The gameplay felt nice, the graphics were cute, the audio was good. I'm not a huge fan of this particular genre of game, but for what the game is, you did a very good job with it. Well done!

Egg Farm by kuviman 2019-10-09T02:35:34Z

A very interesting take on the theme. I like the little tooltips on everything - it's a fun way to explain things to the user. The gameplay is nice. Decently challenging - it'll probably take me a few playthroughs to win. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream last night!

HONK by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2019-10-16T19:45:50Z

There's a lot going on - quite crazy! - but it was still fun. The graphics are nice and the mechanics work well. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

BoBoBot by bigwhiteshogun 2019-10-23T19:17:00Z

Very fun! I really enjoyed the magnet mechanic. Overall, everything felt very intuitive. Nicely done.

Sluggish Grind by Catusfelony 2019-10-09T02:26:25Z

This was quite a fun game. It introduced the mechanics at a good pace. I loved the idea of having to use the shooting power to fly past one of the obstacles! Very nice touch. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream last night!

Youre Being Chased By Nothing by Emily Ghostbreze 2019-10-16T16:59:14Z

You did a great job of setting the mood and creating good ambiance in this game. The graphics are very minimal, which normally I wouldn't think of as working well in a horror game, but you made it work. Thanks for sharing it with us on the stream last week!

My Hope by fiwon123 2019-10-16T19:24:40Z

Very nice art and music. The game was a bit easy, but I didn't have a problem with that; it usually seems like a lot of LD games are very difficult. Overall, the game worked very well. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

Nun in the Chamber by BrokenMirrorMedia 2019-10-09T02:37:58Z

The mechanics took a bit of time to get used to but after that it was quite a fun game. A little difficult to see things, but it added somewhat to the ambiance. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream last night!

Dead Pixels by tmullet 2019-10-23T19:52:56Z

Took me a minute to get used to the phasing mechanic, but after that it was a nice little skill/puzzle game. Good concept, fits decently well with the theme. Some of the levels were pretty challenging, but I was able to beat it in the end. It felt quite complete, especially for a compo game - well done!

Rekindling Of Iron by HKSpadez 2019-10-24T20:05:23Z

Very nice graphics and aesthetic. The final boss fight was quite challenging - it was the only LD45 game that I wasn't able to beat in a single sitting this time around. While unable to beat the game during my first set of attempts on stream, I was able to beat it today as the end of our LD45 streams! Thanks for sharing the game with us and well done on this entry!

Escape the Minotaur by mrabnox 2019-10-09T02:18:46Z

This game had by heart pounding so hard. The graphics and animation looked fantastic (also, the dancing Minotaur is hilarious). The atmosphere of the whole thing really made the game memorable. Thanks for sharing this with us on our stream last night!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Active Cell by Jonas Michael 2020-10-05T23:39:42Z

Very nicely done! An excellent concept for a puzzle game with a great aesthetic. I doubt I'll play anything else quite like this during Dare to Play. Thanks for making this!

Epoch by Fictions 2020-10-13T19:01:11Z

A very fun idea! Good concept, well executed. The graphics are both good looking and give the game a particular flavor when combined with the music and voice. There is not a real tutorial apart from the first level, and yet I was able to intuitively understand how the game worked and how the mechanics worked without needing an explanation. Well done, and thanks for sharing your game with us on stream!

Beyond Death by Trypants 2020-10-06T01:12:54Z

Very impressive visuals! The death animations were great touches, the game felt very cohesive, and I loved the environment changes as you died more. An ending would be nice, but then again, it means that the game is, literally, stuck in a loop. Thanks for sharing it on stream with us!

MonkeyVM by abvadabra 2020-10-06T01:40:10Z

Great aesthetics, interesting puzzles, fitting with the theme. Overall, a really solid entry. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

TimeFabric by raoz 2020-10-06T00:15:24Z

Thanks for submitting your game for us to play on stream! This is a great concept. I'm normally really good at puzzle games, but this one was quite a brain bender. Very interesting puzzle pieces to try to put together!

Space Drummer by Guilloteam 2020-10-13T19:29:09Z

Nice concept! Good job on having whatever arbitrary beat combination actually work with the BGM. The graphics are solid and give the game a really good feel - it seems impactful when the enemy ships blow up. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

Crosslink by Aurath 2020-10-06T02:04:47Z

Nice concept, very clean aesthetic, chaotic gameplay, but quite fun. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Carpe Diem by Pomo 2022-04-05T04:56:44Z

The aesthetics of this game are excellent. It knows exactly what it wants to be and does it really well. The 80s-esque music and feel work great together. The game is challenging, but fair. Overall, a solid experience.

Thanks for submitting your game to us @arthurds! I had a lot of fun playing it. Also, the game I couldn't remember that this reminded me of is called "Fonotica."
