very good modern sokoban implementation! )

thomas-bringer 2019-10-07 16:51

@xart2012 Thank you! :)

danielcmcg 2019-10-07 17:40

Very good, innovative, great usage of the time concept. I used the Soul and Ego concepts in mine ^^

thomas-bringer 2019-10-07 18:14

@danielcmcg Thanks a lot! :)

izi 2019-10-07 21:52

Looks good!

adliberum 2019-10-07 22:17

Really liked the intro, stumbled with the keys a bit but really cool little game and very fitting with the theme! :thumbsup:

thomas-bringer 2019-10-08 12:22

@izi Thank you! @adliberum Thanks a lot! Yeah hard to get good controls on an hexagon grid. :)

dwam 2019-10-08 18:00

This was neat! Very impressive to have gotten so much done, especially in the Compo time limit! The graphics were nice and the music, while getting a bit repetitive if stuck on a certain section for too long, was certainly a nice addition. I liked the puzzles. Nothing too complicated but some did take me a minute or two to figure out.

My one issue was with the perspective. At times I wasn't sure what was obscuring my path and what wasn't. And moving diagonally is a bit finnicky when using the keyboard.

Another small suggestion: I think you should remove the explanation of what was going on at the end. I think it's unnecessary and kind of takes away from what the story was communicating with the visuals and the conversations with other characters.

Overall, though, fun!

thomas-bringer 2019-10-08 21:37

@dwam Thank you so much for your feedback! It is so much appreciated. :) And I agree with everything you said. Yeah I struggled a lot with the controls. For the perspective, to be honest, I only realized it could be an issue at the very end of the jam, when I added trees (which are probably the biggest source of the problem). Didn't found a solution before the end. :) Also yeah, in the beginning the game was ending after the destruction of the world (without explanation). After playtest I realized some players wouldn't read most of the dialogs and didn't understand the whole time thing of the game, so I added the explanation, but yeah, I felt like it is way better to tell the story through the game.

So thank you! :D Your feedback is very helpful and valuable. :)

xlomid 2019-10-09 13:27

I really liked the visual style and the overall premise! The puzzle design is nice, too. My wrist actually hurts after 7 minutes of using the controls, though. I know it's difficult to come up with a good control scheme for a hexagonal grid, but I would encourage you to consider other options: e.g Q/E/A/D/Z/C for the six possible directions, or a mouse/touch-based scheme, etc. I also wish there was an way to speed up the text in the intro and/or skip the intro altogether (or maybe I just didn't find it): it's not fun staring at a sentence for a few seconds after you're read it, especially so if you're replaying the game and have seen the intro before. Overall, very nice idea and execution, though!

paulhocker 2019-10-10 03:56

i could get the controls to work it was so frustrating -- maybe better with a gamepad -- moving up should go diagonal based on player facing -- artwork was nice -- thanks for making it

thomas-bringer 2019-10-10 19:07

@xlomid Thank you! Yeah the controls are definitely an issue. If I ever continue the project, it would probably be on mobile--so a swipe system should solve it. Also yeah, there's no way to skip the intro. Thanks for your feedback! :)

@paulhocker just like I said above: the controls are definitely an issue. If I ever continue the project, it would probably be on mobile--so a swipe system should solve it. Thank you for commenting! :D

thomas-bringer 2019-10-15 21:27

@xart2012 @danielcmcg @izi @adliberum @dwam @xlomid @paulhocker

Hey, maybe you want to see how the game was made! :)

ancient-pixel 2019-10-15 23:55

AS many have said the controls are an issue, other than that it is a nice game. I would recommend if you go up or down, you go up right if you last pressed right and up left if you last pressed left. If there is something in the way you flip the direction.

thomas-bringer 2019-10-16 09:25

@ancient-pixel Yeah, you're absolutely right. This is a nice suggestion to make them better. If I ever continue the project, it would probably be on mobile–so a swipe system should solve it. Thank you for your feedback! :D

jezzamon 2019-10-17 02:20

You did the story telling really well in this! In a way, the only problem is the end was a little anticlimactic for me, but the fact that I was anticipating an interesting ending in the first place shows it was done well up to then :)

thomas-bringer 2019-10-17 09:30

@jezzamon Yeah, to be honest, I added the explanation at the end after realizing some players wouldn't understand that time is reversed, but the original idea was to tell it through the game :) so yeah I am not myself 100% satisfied with the ending neither, I had a hard time deciding whether or not I should explain the story explicitly. Thank you for commenting! :D

levidsmith 2019-10-19 06:38

Neat puzzle game. It seemed like the game was a little slow to start, and it was awkward how the text fills end from the ending to the beginning. I like how the game kept expanding and giving you new things to do.

xumr 2019-10-19 17:24

Text does feel weird but I guess it's better than complete sentences disappearing over time :) it's also a nice touch to have the player move backwards. I haven't played a lot of games with hex grids but I wonder if numpad controls would have been easier to pick up. Solid game with creatures that look like teletubbies but are actually cute!

thomas-bringer 2019-10-20 18:12

@levidsmith Yeah, I agree the text backwards is confusing, but I really wanted to make things look backwards :) Thank you for commenting!

@xumr Yeah, you're absolutely right about the text & controls--these are probably the main issues of the game. Also yeah, I kinda took inspiration from teletubbies x) haha. Thanks for your feedback!

johnnysix 2019-10-20 20:30

Great job with the whole hexagon based layout, and adding so much depth with mechanics and graphics in such a short space of time!

If you were to carry on post-dare, would suggest swapping out arrow keys for a pathfinding / click target style movement for the player, as moving around the sections with 1 block thickness was quite laborious and took away from what would otherwise be a very unique puzzle game.

thomas-bringer 2019-10-20 21:27

@johnnysix Oh, you managed to block yourself :) Yeah you're right about the controls. If I ever continue the project, it would probably be on mobile–so a swipe system should solve it. Thank you for commenting! :D

allbetsareoff 2019-10-22 21:34

I played this game on stream with @Omiya-Games.

This game is pretty cool. I have some problems with the graphics, because they tend to obscure the tile behind them. Other than that the graphics are pretty cute and nice. Are those creatures really human though?

I think the game overplayed in terms of the story. We figured out that we were moving backward fairly early and felt we didn't need the game to explain it. On the other hand, you did say in the chat that other people did need the explanation.

So I'm of two minds about this. This game is well made, and it looks good, but the minute to minute gameplay is frankly not very engaging. I'm also not a huge fan of block puzzles. It would have been nice if the teleporters indicated where they went.

fashionbatman 2019-10-24 18:25

You managed to put so much in here! I loved it, the art and music were especially great. The controls were kind of hard to get used to, but I still really enjoyed my time playing!

youngblade 2019-10-24 18:33

I enjoyed the puzzle aspect of the game and the graphics looked really nice. The art style felt consistent throughout and I liked the animation. My only real complain was that moving diagonally up or down was a bit awkward. It made the game take a bit longer because I kept unintentionally moving sideways. But overall the level design was really good, so the mistakes only ever made me have to backtrack once. Overall, good job!

maskinmask 2019-10-25 10:09

nice game!the level was so polished!

jandourek 2019-10-25 10:14

This was pretty good! I liked the reversed story and the graphics. The only thing that felt wrong were the trees which made the world quite confusing to navigate. The controls also felt a little out of place. Other than that, I think you did a really good job!

oddballdave 2019-10-25 12:19

Very nice game. Some good puzzles, especially given it's a 48 hour game. Great graphics and the audio really gets the mood going. I found the up/down controls a little awkward, but that's a minor gripe. I'd figured the reverse twist was coming before the end and was hoping to see all my moves play out backwards(forwards?) at the end, but I guess that was asking a bit much for 48 hours. Very enjoyable all the same.

Good stuff :8ball:

mr-chocolatesalmon 2019-10-26 08:44

The game was really great, and I loved the story and concept. The dialog boxes being reversed was also a nice touch. A couple of sections confused me a bit, making me think I had to backtrack, and the music got a little repetitive as a result, but other than that I enjoyed it!

negator2vc 2019-10-27 19:30

Amazing puzzle game with excellent graphics, story, npc dialogs and very polished gameplay - puzzles!! Realy great job! :smile: Minor nitpicking follows :smirk: The controls could be better (as other have pointer also). At first I could not move until a found out that I have to press for ex. both up+left to move diagonally. Also at first I was confused about the text popups that couldn't be closed until I found out that I have to move away from the npc to close the popup. Maybe an short explanation in the first few popups. Still an excellent COMPO entry (Yes this is COMPO entry not JAM!!!) with great gameplay, something that is missing in many LD entries.

thomas-bringer 2019-10-28 20:34

@allbetsareoff Thank you so much for the stream! :) Your constructive feedback is very appreciated. And I guess no, these creatures are not human :)

@fashionbatman Thanks a lot! :D

@youngblade Thank you so much! Yeah you're right about the controls. :)

@maskinmask Thanks! :)

@jandourek Thank you for commenting! Yeah controls and perspective are definitely two major issues of the game. :)

@oddballdave Thanks a lot! :D It was the original idea to replay the game backwards at the end, but I quickly realized it woul be hard/time-consuming to implement, and decided to focus on gameplay and story. But yeah it's definitely missing, many players expected that to happen. :)

@mr-chocolatesalmon Thank you so much! :) You're probably one of the few who actually liked reversed text haha :)

@negator2vc Thanks a lot! :D Yeah controls are definitely an issue. I tried keeping the dialog system as simple as possible, but yeah, an explanation could be useful. :)

jharler 2019-10-28 21:53

I really like the visuals of this game. It's playful and well done. The audio is charming as well. Control was a little tricky and I often moved in a direction I didn't intent to. Overall though, this is a great entry.

thomas-bringer 2019-10-28 22:01

@jharler Thanks a lot for your feedback!

humphreysmedia 2019-10-28 22:42

Controls were a bit weird to get used to, usually it's one button at a time, but it's nice to see those boundries being broken! The art style reminds me of In a Nutshell and such a great idea of changing the audio track everytime the player unlocks a new part of the world! Only critique is maybe have the text show up with the beginning of the sentence, rather than the end, it got a little hard to read sometimes. Loved this game!

thomas-bringer 2019-10-28 23:00

@humphreysmedia Thank you for commenting! :D Yeah controls are a major issue. Also I know that reversed text is confusing, but it was to fit the storyline about time being reversed. (Probably not my best idea, though) :)

acronaut 2019-10-29 15:22

You got that 'Kurzgesagt' flat-design minimalist style going.. (nice!) So far, it looks like only chrome plays the sound but not Firefox for the Unity WebGL build..

Suggestions: - Control scheme does seem tricky for the Hexa-Isometric maps; Here are few solutions IMO that may gel for this case: - Num Keys; num7/num9 - Top-Diagonal_Left/Right; num1/num3 - Bottom-Diagonal_Left/Right - WSAD approach; Q/E - Top-Left/Right; Z/C - Bottom-Left/Right; A/D - Left/Right; W/S - Dialog/Action - After NPC finished 'talking' through its dialog prompt, allow user to press action key to end the dialog.. (for the first encounter, it seems like there's an endless pause or anticipation for something else to display..) - Allow user to advance/skip dialog - In Contrary to the controls; This game could even be "button-less": based on arcade joystick movement: - U/D - Action-A/Action-B(Cancel) ; uL/uR, L/R, bL/bR - Movement

Despite the quirkyness of the controls for Iso-maps the game did a good job on its handling of the multi-arrow key for performing diagonal movement.

Keep Going! :dizzy:

thomas-bringer 2019-10-29 20:49

@acronaut Thank you so much for your great feedback! Your suggestions about controls & dialogs are great. If I ever continue the project, it would probably be on mobile–so a swipe/joystick system should solve it. :)

Oh, and I tested sound both on Chrome and Firefox, and it worked for me. That's weird. (It's normal if there is no sound at the beginning.)
