LD47 — Stuck in a loop

TCHOU by Sirkovitch 2020-10-08T20:35:58Z

Awesome graphics! Love the art style. Couldn't work out what I was meant to do though I just ended up going round and round picking up and dropping off passengers. Certainly fits the brief!

Also, dedicated Tcho Tcho button ftw!

Kamishibai by Finn Truman 2020-10-08T21:48:54Z

Great art style, music and voice acting. What you had was great but it's a shame there wasn't a bit more to it. Look forward to seeing more of this game in the future!

Training Loop by DomNomNom 2020-10-08T19:59:15Z

Interesting idea and unique interpretation of the theme. It was interesting playing about with the variables and seeing the result. Some sort of win condition or more clear feedback about how your changes affected things would be good. Also the leap from 3 variables to 22 on the second level was asking a lot from the player. To be honest I gave up very quickly at that point.

LUPINS by Psychedelia 2020-10-24T21:49:32Z

Wow! That is one weird game. The sound set the mood really well and it kept me intrigued all the way through. Loved the use of the Theme in this!

Beyond Death by Trypants 2020-10-08T22:08:03Z

Absolutely loved this game. The art is brilliant! Amazing animation and nice sound and music too! There were some really amazing touches with the world getting more and more bloodsoaked as you die more and more :)

For a 72hr game this is simply brilliant but if you do take it further then I'd say it either needs to make more of the dead bodies mechanic and the moveable cubes (that was a little hard to push around) to give more depth to the puzzles or some additional mechanics need adding (inventory, or jumping, etc). Finally, giving the user the ability to rotate the camera would add a lot to the playability. Often I couldn't see traps or my characters position clearly.

Ay2 by Mustiman 2020-10-05T23:00:38Z

Looks nice and has fitting music but I can't work out how to do anything.

Recurring Detective by RedGuyFromHell 2020-10-08T21:18:39Z

Nice game! It was ambitious for a 72hr jam but you got a lot done! I wouldn't beat yourself up about not finishing the story.

Positive: * Nice mood * Good pixel art * Good music * Interesting story * Dialog system

Negatives: * Some rough edges with the dialog mentioning things I hadn't done * Obviously not much to it yet

Coronary Shooter by analytical_spoon 2020-10-08T20:07:09Z

Nice attempt. I like the topical idea. The controls were fine but it definitely needs something more to it. Some aim other than score and a bit more variety. Nice job though!

(Nu) Da Drum by Trexxak 2020-10-08T20:21:58Z

I loved the idea and the art aesthetic was really nice. The sound design was really fitting to and gave the whole experience a wonderful mood. It was clear from the outset that this was a personal piece and contained some fascinating images.

The idea of having the play area loop around the screen was an interesting one and it added to the mood around the game but I have to admit it just confused me at first and I thought it was a bug.

I tried to play the game on my laptop using the trackpad and I'm afraid that was a killer. It was just impossible to get the bear to move much without a proper mouse and I ended up just watching the video.

Overall a nice and very artistic game but I can't say it would be something I'd come back to and replay.

Skelehunt by Catomag 2020-10-08T20:28:34Z

Sorry, can't get this to run at all. I tried downloading everything from the google drive link but it just crashed on startup. Kudos for writing something from scratch in C with no game engine though! I'd recommend providing a single link to a zip for people to download and run.

Re-Slash by Croxel Studios 2020-10-08T12:29:22Z

Really nice game. I love the idea and it plays really well. Super satisfying when it all works out! The graphic and sound made it quite atmospheric. About the only thing I can comment on is that I don't like the inclusion of mouse controls. It somehow feels like it would all be cleaner with either twin stick controller support or just face the direction you're moving. Wouldn't work as well for the later levels but it might make it more accessible overall

Shunk Stark by MS ANNOTATION X 2020-10-08T19:50:23Z

Like the game. Nicely done. I got a very Thomas was Alone vibe from it. Good juicy animation for the main character and the controls had a reasonably good feel. There was something about the jump that wasn't quite right though, maybe it just needed some coyote time to make it feel more controlled. There were a few bit where I felt I pressed jump at the right time and I just fell to my death.

Loved the music btw! Could have done with some sfx though!

Ouroboros by JoeDev 2020-10-06T12:29:56Z

Really enjoyed this game. Nice idea and pretty well executed too. The only issue I hit was needed to ALT+F4 the game after death several times because it just kept going.

Orbital Roaming by Sidonie_Go 2020-10-08T21:31:37Z

Luverly looking game. Nice entry!

Positive: * Really cute art * Relaxing music * Nicely polished menus, etc * Good concept

Negative: * Seemed to die very suddenly when you went slightly too far away from the planets. Would be nice to let the player correct with their remaining fuel * Some death animation would be good to let the player figure out exactly what killed them * Art style was excellent but the background was very busy. Something more minimal would be clearer

Hellscape by kp_gamedev 2020-10-06T12:20:02Z

Good entry. Nice to see big teams collaborating. I enjoyed the idea but I didn't like the controls the movement and jumping felt a bit floaty. Sometimes when I pressed jump the character didn't jump and it was hard to land a platform. Probably needs a bit of coyote time to make it feel more responsive. Also, punch on "F" seemed an odd choice.

The other thing I struggled with was contrast on the tileset you used. The background was too prominent, while some platforms were hard to spot.

Keep up the good work! With a little refinement this could be great!

Loop's Way by Linetaru 2020-10-06T12:09:03Z

Very fun game. Totally get the portal vibe here but movement needs a bit more refinement. Walking feels slow and the jump feels too low. You've got some nice level design in there too and the audio is minimalist but fitting.

Overall an excellent offering for a 3 day jam!

30 Seconds to Die by Kharath 2020-10-09T12:26:31Z

@eyusufatik - Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed the the "time-clones" :) I wanted to go back and work on the keyboard controls, I knew they weren't right, but I ran out of time. It seems fine with a controller (which is what I tested it with) but I know from experience that most people don't play jam games with controllers!

@kp-gamedev- Thanks for the comments :) Sorry you didn't feel the theme. I tried to put some explanation on the jam page and the itch page. Also, did you read the in game Instructions? In hindsight, I really should have put them on the main menu where everyone would see them rather than hiding them in a menu option.

@robin-psaila - Glad you had fun and enjoyed trying different strategies :) That's what I wanted out of the idea but I didn't manage to develop as fully as I'd like. 27 deaths is good going! My best is 7 but the average of people I've spoken to seems to be closer to the 35-45 area. I've even have someone report 93 which amazes me! I'd have given up before then :)

@jonas-michael - Yeah, what can I say. I wish I'd had the time to rework the controls for keyboard. That's why I added the comment about being best with the controller to the itch page. Glad you liked the sound!

@croxel-studios - Awesome to get feedback about the controller input! The sounds thing is probably the positional sound. I enabled 3D sound so distant sounds were fainter automatically but that probably means sounds on one side only come through one ear. I'll check it out with headphones and see.

@ms-annotation-x - Thanks for the detailed feedback :) Glad you enjoyed the game! I was pleased with the idea when I found myself being dragged back in to beat my own highscore so it's nice to hear other people finding it addictive. I had to squeeze the instructions text down to fit it in in time. I was adding all that in on the last day and compromised on that to avoid coding up multiple instructions pages :( I looked into the ammo thing and it's actually a bug, I tried using a pool for the bullets for the first time in this project and there are only 300 bullets in the pool. I just underestimated how many replays people would go through. I'll probably tweak the number up to around 1000 (or make it expand the pool when it runs out). That splash screen is something I used in my last jam and had the same problem. I forgot to fix it! Thanks for the reminder :)

30 Seconds to Die by Kharath 2020-10-09T13:05:25Z

@domnomnom - Glad you liked the sense of progression. I didn't want the player to ever feel like it was entirely hopeless  A background text was something I wanted to add but ran out of time. I had something in at the start but it was way too busy and didn't fit the aesthetic of graphic so I pulled it out at the last minute. I'll probably create something simple with a bit of parallax post jam. I might give the powerups a bit more of a push out too. They're intended to be a risk/reward thing.

@tosmaster - Glad you enjoyed the chaos  Yeah, in it's current form you can just put forward and hold space to win. You can just win more quickly by staying alive longer and collecting powerups  Seriously though, I had intended to do more than having a static space station with some basic progression. That would have made just driving forward and shooting more tricky.

@jarvisp99 - Yeah, controls aren't great on the keyboard. I could have gone for mouse control but that wouldn't have fitted the small space ship idea and it probably would have made the game too easy. Really glad you liked the concept!

@trexxak - Awesome you liked the game! Yeah, I struggled to come up with the right balance with the sound and graphics for the "time clones" not sure what I ended up with is right.

@manusaiz - Thanks for the great feedback! I had to drop the background I had because it didn't fit and didn't get time to put something suitable back in. I'll look at improving the controls and camera post jam. I definitely take the point about the camera being too close, I played with it a bit but couldn't get the enemy on screen without making it too hard to avoid bullets or making everything very small.

@dumbdumb - Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing

@eduardo-yukio - Glad you enjoyed playing and liked the clone mechanic  The homing missiles were a late addition to add more variety but I think they worked out well! I was hoping to use them with the player ship too by adding a missile powerup and a triple shot powerup but I ran out of time :timer: It's interesting that you found the controls weird. I suppose people are more used to twin stick shooters these days but they definitely aren't right as they are. Particularly on keyboard. No idea why pressing multiple keys wasn't working. I've seen that type of issue with wireless keyboards before but I'll check out the control logic too, there certainly could be a bug!

@kotovnav - I'm definitely getting the message the keyboard controls need work  Thanks for the feedback! Hope you gave me high marks :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

30 Seconds to Die by Kharath 2020-10-09T20:16:42Z

@sidonie-go - Thanks for playing and I'm really glad you enjoyed my game  I was determined that I would do it all myself and music was something that I just didn't get to in the jam. You're so right though, it needs some epic music :guitar: :drum:

Silly Platypus by kotovnav 2020-10-08T21:39:59Z

Enjoyed playing the game and I loved the idea of using the replay. I played it all the way to the end :)

Positives: * Platypuses... I mean.. what's not to like * Cool replay mechanic * Cute graphics * Interesting puzzles * Really satisfying jump! * Great first Jam entry :)

Negatives: * Needs more sound * Could do with a tidy up on the text it looks a bit odd * Got stuck on platform edges occasionally (common unity tilemap issue!) * The tail seemed underused

Save The Reactor by Jarvisp99 2020-10-08T20:56:07Z

The opening screen is very strong and the music is good. Clear aim and it plays well.

Negative: * Hard to see the openings and with the short time limit you just end up spamming until it goes * Very random

Positive: * Nice aesthetic * Good music * Fast paced gameplay * Easy to understand what you're doing

Reincarnation by Omeletton 2020-10-08T20:57:27Z

Went to your itch link and there's no game there...

Stuck in a science loop by Uncle RIP 2020-10-08T20:48:47Z

I enjoyed it and kept me going for quite a while. Loved the art style and the animation. The story kept pulling me along to. The only negative comment I'd make is using left mouse for attack seemed odd and requiring you click continues on the dialogs confused me at first. All the other controls were on the keyboard.

I'd recommend you game though. It's lots of fun :)
