Good Game, Fun. The Lvl 6 is the best :p

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-06 11:15

@mrsamafu I am glad you had fun playing the game! Thank you for playing!

ian-booms 2020-10-06 12:27

Classic plat former type game! Would've loved to have some visual / audio feedback that you are being damaged by the red platforms.

tristan10cats 2020-10-06 12:36

Love the emphasis on precision platforming and the hold jump mechanic. It shows that even simple games like these can be extremely fun if the level of difficulty is built well enough. Good job!

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-06 13:04

@ian-booms @tristan10cats Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate it!

spyranteros 2020-10-06 15:27

I really like the simplicity of the graphic, and nice theme implementation :)

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-06 15:55

@spyranteros Nice to hear that! Thank you for playing!

merpui 2020-10-06 19:36

Nice game :) Took me some tries to finish the 6th level ^^ And I loved the music!

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-06 19:52

@merpui Happy to hear that! Thank you for playing!

skleembof 2020-10-06 19:55

That was a fun short experience. The music was great too...for a while then I had to mute it so I could concentrate on the last level lol.

good work

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-06 20:45

@skleembof I am glad you had fun playing the game! Thank you for playing!

"The music was great too…for a while then I had to mute it so I could concentrate on the last level lol." I do see people find the last level a bit hard, to be honest, the level is a bit difficult for me too!

etrealjunior 2020-10-07 09:59

I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection

shubart 2020-10-07 13:07

Nice job (but too short, i would have loved to play more). The red platforms are a nice idea. The count down that only starts after the player move is a nice feature. Music is really cool. as an improval i found that some hole were a little too near the starting of the level, making the jump not so easy. Thank you for your game

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-07 13:41

@shubart Thank you for your feedback!

recyx 2020-10-07 14:24

I really enjoied this game! The gameplay was hard without being frustrating, which made it really fun and addictive. Would have loved to see a few more levels! The simple graphics are really well done and the animation is a nice touch.

Good job for your first ludum dare entry!

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-07 14:31

@recyx I am glad you enjoyed the game! Thank you for the nice words!

zeu31 2020-10-07 18:23

The controls are nice. The level design is really good although some jumps are too “thigh” for my tastes.

Different animations for walk, idle and jump states, would make it even more juicy.

I wish there was some visible exit object to collide, because sometimes it looks like you made in time but you didn’t. Also some feedback when you die/win even if just a sfx.

@zeu31 Thank you for your feedback!

renge 2020-10-07 21:20

I really enjoyed playing your game on stream! My final thoughts are that the player could use some momentum based movement so they don't stop mid-air. And maybe the jumps are a bit too challenging. Maybe you could make the levels a little more forgiving but somehow reward faster completion times?

no-grapes-games 2020-10-08 03:26

I liked the clean geometric art and the music was really nice!

miklou 2020-10-08 07:54

Nice game. easy to understand and have fun with it. I would like some simple sfx to have a feedback when i jump. But it was nice anyway ! Great music and simple graphics always work !

gilad-bar-ilan 2020-10-08 13:43

The graphics of the game are cool and classic, seems you watched Brackeys video about how to make cool graphics :) And it seems you made a great job! Good Game!

samuel-hollywood-summers 2020-10-08 13:58

Level 6 is annoyingly difficult. I think this is because the jump is very difficult to tame. I could not reliably jump at the minimum height. I knew what I needed to do, but did not have the patience to keep trying and waiting for the movement controls to play ball. I liked the idea of platforms that require a sacrifice to use, and may or may not be needed to use to solve the puzzle. Some sound effects would really help with the game feel. And having a different sound for a minimum height jump compared to a higher jump might help to train me to get it right more reliably! I think it would also be a good idea to introduce the time limit only after a successful completion of each level without the limit first. The choice of music really helped inject some character into the minimalist aesthetics of the visuals, and probably kept me motivated to play for longer than if there was no music.

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-08 15:13

@samuel-hollywood-summers Sorry for the difficulty of the last level. It is normal to be hard, because it is the final one! To win the last level you need to time your jump perfectly! Thanks for your feedback!

krg 2020-10-08 16:02

well man very cool game

i watched you giving cool feedback on other games

just requesting to give on mine too lol

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-08 16:26

@krg If the critical ones are welcomed too, for sure I will do.

kharath 2020-10-08 19:50

Like the game. Nicely done. I got a very Thomas was Alone vibe from it. Good juicy animation for the main character and the controls had a reasonably good feel. There was something about the jump that wasn't quite right though, maybe it just needed some coyote time to make it feel more controlled. There were a few bit where I felt I pressed jump at the right time and I just fell to my death.

Loved the music btw! Could have done with some sfx though!

archock34 2020-10-08 20:40

I really liked the game, the simple graphics, the music, only that in the last level I couldn't pass it, I ran into the red, for everything else, very good game!

peachtreeoath 2020-10-08 22:53

I play on a wide monitor and only coming back here did I realize there's info like the timer and such. I couldn't see any of that on my screen.

I don't know if it's the lack of info visibility but I can't figure out how to play this game. I can beat the 1st level by going right, but I can't do that for the 2nd level. Am I missing info or is something being cut off on my screen?

@peachtreeoath Thank you for your report I will fix this issue today. Yes, you are missing the HUD; And you shouldn't see the gap on the right and the left. Can I know the aspect ratio of your monitor?

peachtreeoath 2020-10-09 09:30

3840 x 1600, thanks!

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-09 12:05

@peachtreeoath I think the problem solved! Try the game and let me know if it works as it should be, so, I can build to the other platforms. The game should work for you as 1920 x 1080 resolution. Game link: https://ms-annotation-x.itch.io/shunk-stark (I updated for only Windows x64, if you are using a different platform or your Windows is x86 let me know) Have fun!

***Edit** Make sure to download "Shunk Stark x V1.0.1 (Beta).rar", and not version V1.0 of the game.

peachtreeoath 2020-10-09 13:59

Thanks for going out of your way and doing that :) It was......MUCH easier this time around and beat it in maybe 3 mins.

I actually really liked the level design. Levels 5 and 6 had the tight precision I really like in platformers (funnily enough, the game I made also requires good timing and spacing so you might like it). There were certainly a few jumps where you get a tad nervous because you have to jump super close to the edge. I think that's a great feeling, and for me is what makes a platformer memorable to me.

Short and fun. I wouldn't have minded harder levels either because the loops are only 6 secs long so dying doesn't feel that bad, and you get lots of chances to correct your timing. Thanks again for the fixed version!

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-09 14:37

@peachtreeoath I am glad the game works now for you as it should be! Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

arad-hamidsamiee 2020-10-09 19:41

Pretty challenging game, smooth gameplay tho. I didn't really get the "stuck in a loop" theme from it, but I looked good. Managed to finish the game. would love to hear sound effects, too. good job

barravelbzh 2020-10-10 09:49

Nice game but a bit classy and out of subject i might say. Well done for great job!

mar3k 2020-10-10 09:52

Nice game, even tho it's just geometrical shapes, by giving them those bounce and rotate animations it makes it lot cooler. Well done.

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-10 10:49

@arad-hamidsamiee Thank you for playing!

"I didn’t really get the “stuck in a loop” theme from it" The game matches the theme by replaying the level. The game restarts/you will replay the level, when the timer reaches zero, your hearts reaches zero, you fall down, or if you restarted the level manually.

---

@barravelbzh Thank you for playing!

"out of subject i might say" If you mean it doesn't match the theme, I don't think you are correct.

edalbung 2020-10-10 12:53

Cool little platformer game!

Here are my feedback:

_Positive points - Responsive controls - Clean geometric art style - Great animation on the cube

_Negative points - The jump is a bit too imprecise for me - The level 6 was too frustating, certainly because of the impreicision of the jump - The music is quickly repetitive

Overall: gg for your work!

fupi 2020-10-10 20:46

Really simple platforming game, weirdly enough I didn't have as much difficulty on level 6 as other people. xp I guess I have played a lot of these hard precision platformers.

I liked: - The tight and precise controls, I felt in total control of my character at all times. - The music choice is quirky. - The levels were well designed. - The time limits were precise but totally doable.

I didn't like: - The graphics are way too simplistic and flat, I prefer when games have some more character. Just personal preference. - There was no feedback to the player that red platforms hurt you aside from your health decreasing. I only noticed it in the final level, in the others I just jumped on top of red platforms without worrying. - For some reason your input sometimes isn't recognized when the level reloads. Sometimes if you hold the key while dying you will restart the level already walking, sometimes you won't. - The theme is underutilized. I get that the loop is supposed to be the level restarting, but that's just how platformers usually work. Many games this jam have used the theme in the same way as yours, so your game could have done with some new spin.

wabble 2020-10-11 23:46

Simple fun platforming. Would love more levels! The jumping curve is a bit different than what i am used to.

hoolop 2020-10-12 15:26

Nice and simple platformer, pretty hard because of strong gravity and a short timer. Good job !

spawncampgames 2020-10-14 20:48

I rage quit at level 4.. Fun game tho :D

triceratopsjjj 2020-10-19 18:53

i love this wobble of the player square. The game looks really clean!

honey 2020-10-21 14:17

I have to disagree with all the positive feedback about controls. Both the ground drag and air drag felt nice, the character wasn't floaty at all, but you're still stuck halway to "feel good." The game felt as it is ignoring my input at times.

This has one common denominator - too precise ground check. You're not allowed to jump when you're just a tad bit on the edge of the platform, and then you're allowed to jump again only when you're back on the ground. This means that if the player hits the jump button just a little bit later, still on the edge of the platform, but out of range of the ground check, or just a little bit sooner, a frame or two before the ground check returns positive, the character just won't jump.

That is perfectly alright, it's not a bug, it works as intended, but it FEELS wrong and frustrating! So what you do when you want the player feel good is you actually cheat the physics, you record both player input and player ground check and do the action as long as those two overlap each other, but not necesarilly when they happen simultaneously. As I did to many other platformer devs this jam, I do recommend to you as well these videos which are just great both as inspiration and as knowledge base https://youtu.be/yorTG9at90g https://youtu.be/8QPmhDYn6rk

Unlike some others, I like the artstyle very much, especially the animation work, which is like the artstyle itself very subtle but works well enough and makes the game feel more alive! Also the colour scheme worked well for me :)

What I didn't get was the last level - I left only with one heart and only then I realized how I lost the other hearts (some feedback is missing) and I was unable to finish the last level - is that the intended behaviour? Should I have just more hearts to spare? In levels before I encoutered many deaths that lead me to abovesaid - I didn't jump off the edge of the platform or was unable to do a fast land-jump on a platform and just fallen to my death.

But the foundation is really strong, the movement feels really tight otherwise which usually isn't the case with Unity, so you did a great job! Congrats!

ale 2020-10-24 16:06

Nice little platformer. The animations and music work well to create a chill mood, although I do agree with @honey about the character controller feeling unresponsive, and the lack of coyote time makes it feel frustrating. Level 6 is a good example of why: it's already super difficult to land on the first platform without bumping into the red one overhead. It requires you to time your jump and hold the jump button to achieve a very precise jump arc. But then when you screw it up because you pressed the spacebar 1 frame too late, it just adds another brutal layer of difficulty that can become frustrating, and it can feel like it wasn't your fault, like maybe the game lagged and didn't register your jump.

davidemoriello 2020-10-26 19:49

Liked a lot the minimalistic style. Liked the controls but could be better. You have superb feedback from other people here :D

vphyre 2020-10-26 22:39

A very interesting game. I like the platform elements, as well as all the mechanics involved. Time is also very well used. Level design is well produced, and it is rewarding to finish the levels. The graphics are simple and are only there to represent an idea, although I would say that the graphics are still functional and that is important. The sound is good too. Overall it is an interesting and good experience. Good job.
