charming little game, not really sure what was added to gameplay after smell, but the gradual layering of effects like that was cool. have to say the breathing at the end scared me a little.

copito 2019-10-07 10:48

this was pretty cool although i also couldn't figure out what the power ups did after smell

gaz-ireland 2019-10-07 10:48

I agree with @death-is-cold. After the smell, it was hard to tell what benefit you got from levelling up which left me a little saddened. Maybe touch could increase pickup range? etc.

mortalfosca 2019-10-07 10:55

visuals and audio quite appealing! initially thought there wasn`t much gameplay however smell ability changed that! good job.

baturinsky 2019-10-07 10:57

Only noticable useful effect from upgrade is smell. You could make hearing make music louder when closer to star.

pfeyffer 2019-10-07 11:01

Yeah, magnetic items would have been nice, maybe as the touch sense. Very neat game, cool ending.

nodli 2019-10-07 11:15

Cool entry ! The gameplay reminds me of the game SPORE but there is no other creature. I guess the senses after smell are supposed to be interactions with them. The graphics are great, in particular the way the tail of the creature moves. The music made the atmosphere very relaxing.

The sound effects at the end were very succesful at communicating a 'rise from nothing' / 'emerging from sleep' feeling.

jakobthequizguy 2019-10-07 11:28

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone! @death-is-cold @copito @gaz-ireland @baturinsky @pfeyffer Yeah, taste and touch don't do anything because of time constraints, if I had more time I definitely would've added functionalities to them. @nodli Spore is definitely an inspiration for this :) interesting to hear your thoughts on the ending!

washingmachinae 2019-10-07 11:41

Sweet little experience. Agree with all of the above, especially as there seemed to be no difference in gameplay after smell

hcursino 2019-10-07 11:48

This reminded me of spore. Have you played it?

jakobthequizguy 2019-10-07 12:16

@hcursino Yes I have, it's definitely an inspiration for this game :)

purpledartfrog 2019-10-07 17:02

@jakobthequizguy Very nice entry .... reminds me a bit of my own entry  I liked the ambience - good job :thumbsup_tone1:

purpledartfrog 2019-10-07 17:10

Wuuuuuups ...... I almost forgot to leave the actual rating

jakobthequizguy 2019-10-08 09:09

@purpledartfrog I thought the same thing when I played your game, they're similar in a way  both of them are pretty Spore-like. Thanks!

aileron 2019-10-14 11:42

I really like the way smell works. Would love to see more features :)

projectaroid 2019-10-19 16:19

Cool feel to the game and interesting take on the game jam theme. Nice work.

tomcus 2019-10-19 17:04

Really Loved your game. Nice idea. But not sure If something happend with the latest upgrades (evolutions). But otherwise great game.

adnonymous5 2019-10-19 21:03

Really neat game. I feel like you did a good job getting a lot of mileage out of simple, but elegantly made stuff. Visually the background and animations are simple, but the aesthetic is beautiful. Super repetitive, but oddly relaxing at the same time. Unlocking the new symbols was satisfying each time, and I was really invested in reaching the end just to see what the final payoff was, and it did not disappoint. Good stuff!

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-19 23:18

Interesting game, I liked the visual aesthetic, and the smell powerup made the game a lot easier. I wasn't sure what the next two were supposed to do, but I enjoyed the experience.

frozen-spirit 2019-10-20 03:55

Super charming game you made! Kinda funny how you can smell the stars :D. I found the mood and soft music very satisfying too. Good job :).

lexyvil 2019-10-20 08:09

This was awesome, it somewhat reminded me of the cell stage in Spore (which was my favourite stage). I really love games like these where you evolve to get new or better senses. If only the later ones were useful~ I would support the development of a project like this with many more feature--the smell ability was very neatly incorporated.

purrseus 2019-10-20 10:57

No one has pointed this out yet, but this is about a person recovering from a coma, right? It's beautifully produced and really touched me.

thepiratenun 2019-10-20 17:14

This game established a really cool mood, and the graphics and the audio both served this very well. I think the theme was used very well also, and it was a very interesting idea. I think with a bit more development, this can become a super cool project!

jakobthequizguy 2019-10-22 08:11

Thanks everyone! I feel motivated to revisit this project someday and add the missing features due to all your feedback.

@purrseus I'm so happy it touched you, what a compliment! And it's super interesting to read your thoughts on the story. I won't say anything since I don't want to reveal anything concrete :)
