Nice! Great idea, had troubles understanding the double negatives and the approve/deny :D

Nice! Great idea, had troubles understanding the double negatives and the approve/deny :D
What a banger!
The product art is wonderful. By the end I felt like I knew it better than the back of my own hand.
@gzalo thank you so much! I've heard that the double negatives can be confusing to a few people. I might tweak them in a post-jam release, or try to make the explanation clearer in-game.
@nox282 Thanks!! :heart:
@jacobwinters Hell yeah! I was trying to get players to develop that intuition. I'm glad you liked it!
Very cool game! It was kinda creepy how fast I got used to learning the parts of the plushie and phone O_o
And those Amazom quota timers are no joke
Loved the art style and the concept, it's really original and creative. It took me a while to understand what I was supposed to be doing, I kept denying products when I should have been accepting. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this :) I don't think I will be making employee of the month at Amozom any time soon, though! I need to work on my quality control.
Super fun! The difficulty ramp was paced really well. I like the art style and the voice sfx :smile:
Wow, what a fantastic game. Nice long runtime and great difficulty curve. You could really feel yourself getting better at the game the more you played. Had a great time learning all the products and beating the game. My only complaint is that the first phone I was given had some mistakes on it, so I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for. When introduced to a new product, it'd be nice to be given a correct version first and no time limit to give me time to read over the specs. Seriously great game, 5 stars all around.
awesome game, this is probably the best tutorial I've seen so far, it helps you understand the game without being too long or too much in your face, the mechanics are simple but engaging, reminded me of Papers Please doing all the checks, the gameplay is engaging definitely kept me going for a while, congrats on the nice work!
Very harsh rankings, but I managed to see the end, and it was worth it for the humor! Great game, and fun idea, well done!
I will agree that this probably has the best tutorial I've seen in a jam game and does the best job at easing people into it. It's also cute and fun.
@flightyfelon Thank you! I definitely went a bit tight on some of the quotas, I ended up nerfing a few of them in a patch lol.
@tofucat Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) If I continue on with this project I'll definitely make the wording more clear, and provide a longer tutorial. I've heard the double negatives screw with some people definitely.
@donutshoes Thank you!!! I'm glad you liked it!
@vykri Great job on beating the game! I definitely made a mistake by not giving you a sample of the phone. I was running out of time and I wasn't able to script the event. All of the other products did start with a correct version so it kind of broke the player's expectation in an unnatural way. If I make a full version of the game, I want to provide an interactive visualization of all the parts of new products, and what they look like when they're correct / incorrect. Thank you so much for your review!!!
@0x-void-x0 Thank you! I had a lot of fun scripting the phone calls. Papers Please was definitely an inspiration! I'm glad you enjoyed it <3
@oradimi I'm happy you enjoyed the humor! I had a lot of fun writing the dialogue. Great job for getting to the end, it definitely gets challenging at times. I based the S-rank scores off of how good I could do if I tried my hardest, and then made 50% of that the passing grade, and I definitely think I should've made it a bit easier. It's scary how good you get when you play your own game for 3 days straight. Thank you!
@ruruie That's great to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Papers please but cuter - great job :)
I agree that it felt really satisfying to learn the products over time, though I will say it did get a LOT easier once I realized that I only had to mark one incorrect aspect instead of all of them! Never really did figure out all the parts of the game cartridge, though - and maybe it was just my tired brain, but it took me a minute to realize you had to click on it to see the back.
Still though, really awesome game - fantastic work!!
Art is gorgeous, and the game feels really tight for a weekend of work!
Tutorial took a second because I kept selecting the Ears / Eyes when the head was missing. Also might make the fail / success messages longer, otherwise there isn't time to look across the screen and read them (and they're really quirky and fun). But other than nitpicky things, I have no complaints. I really enjoyed playing!
@drainkid thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I will note that partway through the game you start needing to note down two pieces of evidence, and then at the very end you need to note three :) Jim does say to click on the cartridge to see more of it, but I think that in a full version having a dedicated interactive tutorial for that would be helpful. Or just a clearer click target.
@sudocoffee Thank you! I heard that was confusing for a couple of people. I definitely could have done a better job explaining exactly how the evidence system works / changing the discrepancies to make more sense. I'm glad you like the success / failure messages. I was going to make them show up for longer but about half way through development I decided to transition to quicker paced gameplay because I knew I didn't have time to implement the deeper analytical mechanics I had initially planned, so I had to cut down on transition time. I would like to expand upon this game post jam and make some changes to that.
I really liked it, reminds me of something like "Papers, please". It gets super stressful with the timer, but ofc not in a bad way (otherwise what would the timer's purpose be, right?) I like the dialogue and the goofy talking sounds, too. Really cool!
That was super fun and fast paced! In a lot of ways the game got easier once I had to find more evidence for each item as I could kind of rule stuff out faster. Managed to really get into the flow and hammer out a few perfect days without even coming close to running out of time. Gotta say, I was not expecting that ending at all and I had a good laugh about it! The art was absolutely perfect for this—very cute and just detailed enough to make spotting the differences not too easy, but also not too hard. Very well done!
I got this graphical bug on Opera browser (on Edge it looks normal). obraz_2023-05-03_221430824.png
Anyway. I like your approach to the theme. I really enjoyed finding defects of these products, especially when I knew all their features so that I didn't even have to look at the template. Also the thrill of the limited time to do the task was an added value
That was a cool game. Really unique, really well executed. No notes.
Not a big fan of job type of games, but it's really well done and has tons of content.
Wow - that's just amazing for a compo game! Everything feels complete and polished. If I have one complaint, it's that they didn't give me the opportunity to examine the phones when they came in. I got time to examine every other new item, so that felt strange. The game plays really well and draws you in. Humor is nice and this interpretation of the theme is definitely unique. I also liked the art, and the sounds of the executive talking on the phone were a blast.
Superb job!
Freakin' Amazom - they promoted me and fired me. That was brilliant :grin: My score after the final day: Screenshot_11.jpg
This is an incredibly, incredibly complete game for the short time period in which it was made - and it was an absolute blast to play. I thought the game's commentary was also quite fitting for the theme, and the gameplay (trying to spot those differences) was paced fabulously (both in terms of how it started easy-ish, and then got trickier and trickier).
The art is absolutely great (and makes it very clear what the differences are even though they're hard to notice at first glance when you're in a rush). And moreover, the time pressure really adds a forcing function to keep you on your toes the whole game.
I really enjoyed playing the game (and enjoyed stressing myself out mildly while trying to frantically sort out the returns). A game with a clear message, funny jokes, and fantastic gameplay - definitely recommend!
Wow! This game is amazing, especially for the compo time limit! (My game was so much smaller mechanics and playtime-wise, and that was for the jam :'-) ) Honestly I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't been said already, apart from the fact that the computer's dialog upon completing / failing a return was quite funny, but you barely get any time to actually read it. I have a feeling this game will do quite well overall considering how well everything is executed...
EXCELLENT compo entry that's a lot of depth and charm in not a lot of time
Loved the game! The art was really cute, and overall this game felt very polished. Great job!
@nikkunakku Thank you! Papers Please was, of course, an inspiration :P
@ponygirlluna I'm glad the ending caught you off guard! I was worried it would be too obvious lol. Thank you!
@kosmik123 Huh, that's wack, I don't know why that's happening. I checked caniuse.com and the CSS Property I used there should have worked. Oh well. I'm glad you enjoyed the game! :)
@tim-sims Damn, no notes huh? I must've done something right :P
@simeon-radivoev Thank you!
@fabula-rasa Thank you!! Yeah, I should have added a preview for the phone definitely. Congratulations on that score, and for reaching the ending!
@hanadulcet Thank you so much! I'm honestly shocked by how smoothly the development went. I feel like I only got this much done because literally nothing went wrong through the whole process, but hey, I'm not complaining! I'm really happy that you enjoyed the game :)
@robonaut121 Thanks!! I made the decision really early on to use React as my renderer, which I was really worried about at first, but it realllly paid off with the rate that I could develop in it. I'm glad you enjoyed the game :3 I should make the computer messages more visible...
@cheesepencil Thank you!! :sparkles:
@dgo Thank you so much!
This game is too stressfull for my poor heart. Still i had a great time and i will propably play more of the game later
Reminds me a lot of Papers Please! Loved playing it and seeing all the fun dialogues (especially when you fail). Sprite work is also very good, well done!
Great submission! I enjoyed the papers please inspired gameplay. I really felt like I was able to learn the products and speed through really quick. Two things I got confused on were the image for the plushie's nametag looks like "LTC" and not "PTC" like the actual requirement is, and it looks like the picture has eyebrows. I was using the image as a reference and it made me get it wrong a few times until I realized. The tutorial was very nice. It provided nice information and was well paced. The game we made (and most submissions here) would have benefitted by a tutorial as well made as yours. Art was nice and everything felt good.
Blown away that this game is made entirely in preact! Well done, really enjoyed it!
Amazing entry!! Can't believe you managed all this for compo 🤩 Game seems easy but really curves up, had a lot of fun playing it.
I got a score of 250. Not sure if it's high or not, but for the next day I try to read the message when you Approve/Deny stuff, and my score went down to 46.
(My dear boss at Amozom, I gave my review, can I get my children back? -- Your favorite Intern #346787123)
Awesome game! Would have liked to hear/see what the computer said to me when I made an error, but I had no time! :) Really impressive what you achieved here, congratulations! Great sense of humor in this one!
A highly entertaining and engaging game. I found myself replaying the various levels trying to get an S rank. The story, humor, and world building are all executed nicely as well. My one personal nitpick is not being able to click on the same general area when inspecting the VR headset. This is only something I noticed when trying to go for the best score, so it's likely a non-issue. Overall: well done!
@crow-seeds @jim-jagers Thank you!!
@cody-holt Thanks!! The reference images are just scaled down versions of the product. I wanted to make them just barely useful but not useful enough to rely on them. I probably could have cleaned up the image a bit to reduce confusion, though. I tried to employ Valve's technique of making tutorials, where the game just kind of is the tutorial, and the plot weaves you through learning all of the game mechanics without too much explicit teaching. I think it turned out okay!
@astrydax Thank you! Yeah, when I realized my game was literally just going to be clicking buttons and seeing animations, I decided to try to employ my web-dev skills, and I think that really worked out in my favor. I got way more done than I would've if I had used a proper game engine, I heavily benefited from all the built-in layouting that using the web gave me.
@resacagames Thank you! I was hoping the difficulty curve would keep it challenging :)
@kyboon That's really good! I definitely should have made the approve/deny messages stick around a little longer.
(Amozom has reviewed your childcare resumption request, and has decided to withhold judgement until higher performance is noted on your employee record.)
@wighz Thanks!! Seems like a lot of people wanted to read the computer dialogue, haha.
@lutzc99 So glad you enjoyed it! I had a few extra features planned that ended up getting cut, that included various interactions you could perform on the products, which would be triggered by buttons on screen. If I continue this project, I'll probably move changing the view to a button there, so there's a consistent place to press no matter what product you're looking at. Thanks!
Oh my god! I am in awe what people can actually do in 48 hours. Why do AAA games even exist, if there are people that can make games with such time-to-quality ratio?!
Huge props and respect. And, of course, thanks for this addicting experience :smile:
Omg its like papers please but cute pups!! Nice to see a game made with pure webdev technology, I wanna give that a try some day. I played to the end and got scarily good at selectively picking out faulty products, maybe I was made for this. Anyway, this was a super creative and pretty game with tons of witty writing! Color difference from reference image was maybe a bit too subtle, I always had to do a double take. Also, I made it to the night shift day without knowing that I had to check *only one* reason for return, not every reason ;w; quotas suddenly got a lot more achievable. Maybe that mechanic could have been better highlighted. Surprised at the amount of levels you managed to make! And each one felt unique enough with the new mechanics and dialogue. Great job on this and sorry for the headphones lol can relate ^^
This was neat. I encountered an issue to do with the art appearing to swap whilst the items were arriving on the conveyor belt that meant that in a few cases the would 'flash' whilst it was arriving, which made them less of a challenge to spot. Not sure why, might be something to do with my browser (Safari). Didn't really detract from the game though, it was a nice take on the theme.
Yes, a paper please clone!
The color difference got me every time _(I’m color blind)_.
It felt a bit long… I didn’t managed to get to the end after 20 min of play, the game froze right at the Christmas day when checking the list :frowning2: so sad.
Btw good entry, I’m showing some respects for doing this in plain web.
Amazing game with nice idea!
Nice game!
Fun game! I enjoyed it in the beginning, but I found it to be pretty easy, and it started to become a bit boring due to that.
I like the artwork a lot, it feels very soft and comfy. The phone ringing animation is particularly cute.
Clicking on the checklist felt a bit off? Like maybe the hitboxes for the text wasn't what I expected, idk. Found myself accidentally clicking on the wrong checklist item a few times.
Overall very solid!
God this was such a cool game! I had the inital idea to also make a game that is a bit inspired by papers please (I assume you were inspired by it)! And I was wondering when you would introduce special rules, but then you did, with the whole at least 2 things need to be wrong, etc. Really well done! Also the scoring system is super cool! Probably my favourite game this LD so far!
Good grief, that was *wayyy* more than I ever would've expected from a Compo game, what the heck!? Literally my favorite game so far in the jam, it looks great, sounds great, and *plays like a freaking dream.* Everytime I thought it would end, it just kept going -- I thought you'd have the one toy and continue on with a few harder levels, maybe change a thing or two, or add different defections, but there was just more and more!!! I played that for like 30 minutes (longest game yet, which was fantastic), and was completely entertained through the entire thing (:laughing:)! Goodness gracious, that was an experience, and I'm not 100% sure I can give any critical feedback on it; I loved every second!! You're making me doubt my submission, you mad lad! >:S
Beyond fantastic job, now I demand you polish this up and charge $30 for it, get to work! :wave:
@nozomu57 Thank you so so much!! I really appreciate your kind words :heart: Your game was one of my highlights for the jam!
@fupi thank you! I think using web tech was definitely the right call for me, it allowed me to iterate super quickly, as I do web development as a job. I definitely should make it more clear that you only need to flag one error for each product. Thanks!
@bts Thanks! Yeah, that was a known issue, since I'm not currently preloading any of the images. I didn't have time to fix that unfortunately, but after the first time any given mistake appears, it shouldn't flash again, I think.
@crazyrems Damn, sorry about the color difference checks :( I wasn't thinking about color blindness when I was designing it. I'll probably make the color changes also include a brightness change so that it's easier to differentiate even if you're colorblind. I'm not certain why the game would have crashed, I haven't seen any instability myself, but if you want to skip back to Christmas you can run `window.localStorage.setItem("current_plot", "8")` in your console, or `window.localStorage.setItem("current_plot", "9")` if you just want to skip straight to the ending scene. Thank you so much for playing!
@zhiteng-chen Thank you!!
@nature-pixels Thanks!
@alchemic Thanks! Sorry you found the gameplay a bit easy, I ended up making it easier because a lot of people were struggling to hit their quotas. Maybe aiming for S tier might help? I'm glad you like the artwork! I'm not sure what you mean about the hitboxes on the text, they seem to be accurate for me.
@sephowepho thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate all of your feedback. I'm really happy I could deliver a smooth gameplay experience. I definitely want to move forward with this project, I'll let you know how it goes!
@andidebob Thank you so much! I had a lot more special rules I had to drop because of time constraints. I'll definitely be including more stuff in future versions. I'm glad you liked it!
It's really impressive for a comp game! I really like the concept and I had fun playing it, good entry!
Great game, it felt very polished! I like all the variations you did on the artwork too <3
I was really hoping to see a final report that showed my performance for each day on a single card, but maybe it was because failed the very last day xD
Very nice and polished game, great entry. I stumble upon the game just because mine has the same name lol=)
