Came for the pun, stayed for the god mode.

kodingnights 2023-01-08 22:07

How did you manage to make all that in 48 hours. Amazing.

0xwavy 2023-01-08 22:11

I had a good time with this one! Super funny. I was personally a brick wall guy - simple but effective. Love the lil' soundtrack too, super sweet. Good stuff!

feor 2023-01-09 05:58

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Much appreciated! If I'm honest, I'm really disappointed that I didn't have time to properly test the levels (and indeed some appear to be excessively difficult), so I'd recommend giving the level editor a go if you haven't.

appoxgames 2023-01-09 09:56

Cool concept, really like that you even managed to create a level editor in the short time we had. Well done!

adamwatters 2023-01-09 19:59

There's a lot here considering the short development time. Overall I think it works quite well. It can get quite chaotic at times but that's part of the fun. The music also fits quite well with the rest of the game. Well done.

cogcomp 2023-01-09 20:25

That was a really clever take on the theme and the music is great. Nice job!

caribear 2023-01-09 20:58

I refuse to believe this was done in 48 hours! So much fun and such a creative and unique game. Even the music is perfect.

danmerey 2023-01-09 22:30

For some reason the game doesn't work in embedded version (but works on itch). > Failed to read the 'serviceWorker' property from 'Navigator': Service worker is disabled because the context is sandboxed and lacks the 'allow-same-origin' flag.

Funny concept, although it was pretty hard to understand controls. I won first map not doing anything (cars just mayhemed themselves), after a few minutes I finally understood the controls. Placing walls was fun.

raphytator 2023-01-09 22:35

Interesting concept, but hard to play. Maybe preparing the obstacle before cars come would be interesting. Good work !

roblaro 2023-01-09 22:57

This was fun! It's very difficult to win, but still had fun shooting cars around using the boosters!

feor 2023-01-09 22:57

@danmerey Thanks for the warning! It seems I can't get the embed to work here, even though I followed the guide and it's the same .zip as the one on itch.io...Oh well. Yeah, it's really tough to get the difficulty right as the cars have a tendency to randomly implode. But that's part of the fun. I should work on explaining controls better for sure.

@raphytator That's an interesting idea, wish I'd thought of that. Thanks for the feedback!

kenneth-dd 2023-01-09 22:58

Road simulation and a level editor. Impressive!

orhu 2023-01-09 23:14

Very impressive technically. I think the cars stick too close to their paths to really crash enough or at least give enough room for error that you can figure out a solution to a level. I also wasn't 100% sure what everything was doing, so I wasn't able to clear many of the levels. Great work though, I played this for like a half an hour so suffice it to say I enjoyed it a lot.

andreadbx 2023-01-09 23:27

Brickwall ftw! Nice game!

feor 2023-01-09 23:40

@orhu Appreciate the constructive feedback! You're absolutely right, the cars were a headache to program and in the end they're a bit too glued to the road. I also just tweaked the starting money on itch.io to make the levels slightly easier because they were definitely too hard. Thanks for playing!

ani 2023-01-10 01:05

Aww tiny cars! A few times the cars were crashing by themselves, but I still had fun figuring out different ways to beat all the levels - great game!

fedora 2023-01-10 06:45

Really cool submission! Enjoyed playing around in the level editor and watching the cars go crazy fast and then crash

thejookerful 2023-01-10 16:30

So hard ! But also very fun, especially after I found the wall glitch ;p Great job !

jormarysky 2023-01-10 21:26

It is fun little time waster, points for originality. Would be fun to see real game built with same idea.

Also bonus points for level editor. While not master class UX design, it is more than usable (certainly better than using Notepad)

crimoudin 2023-01-11 20:48

Great idea. I beat like 3 of the maps it could have been a little more challenging but I suppose that's what the level editor is for.

aurailus 2023-01-12 01:25

Great concept, the art is simple and appealing, and it's really enjoyable to slam a bunch of vehicles into each other for points. I think the game could benefit from requiring more strategic placements of various obstacles, maybe if it was designed more as a puzzle game than a sandbox, and right now it feels like placing walls is usually the best option. The fact that you got a level editor in in time was impressive! Great job :)

bigwhiteshogun 2023-01-12 01:38

I saw your game on one of the streams and I knew immediately I have to try it out for myself. For a compo this is astonishing amount of work done.

I'm not gonna lie I cheated a bit on the last level when I found out I can just never place the wall on the ground and just hold it with my cursor and bump it directly in to incoming cars. :P still loved the game and I think you should be very proud of yourself. Fantastic job.

feor 2023-01-12 06:20

@bigwhiteshogun Appreciate it! I'm happy with the outcome and I'm thinking of polishing it a little bit, adding maybe a few more varieties of cars/powers and maps and releasing a proper post-jam version.

That last level is incredibly hard as you've found so I totally understand using any glitch you can find, we can pretend it's working as intended™.

Thanks so much for the kind words!

phillip-scott 2023-01-12 19:21

Great idea, lots of fun to be had with it, Stacking speed boosts is genuinely fun!

lomby 2023-01-14 03:42

Thanks for submitting your game on the stream! Here’s the start of your game if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts youtu.be/OTjgGbVpf7g?t=4307

Nice work!

arowx 2023-01-14 14:05

Great work. I just tried the easy town but thought that the graphics could be larger and a few sound fx for crashes with maybe some particles/explosions and money text could really improve the immersion and feel of the game.

terracottafrog 2023-01-14 18:16

I enjoyed seeing how the cars reacted to different things, but I definitely agree with others that the cars need to be less glued down to their tracks. I think the fun here is in seeing the carnage you can make so leaning into that by making everything more dramatic would really add to the enjoyment.

I love the zoomed out graphics a lot, since it gives you such a birds eye view of everything going on. The music also evokes the mood really well.

Overall there's a really good core here but the game needs just a little bit more work on balance and feel.

echo-gameworks 2023-01-16 01:02

Pretty fun little game. Great take on the theme leading to an interesting mechanic. The song was pretty catchy as well. Great work!

trasevol-dog 2023-01-16 20:06

I really like the visual style of this game, and it goes very well with the audio and the gameplay itself too. It has such a "made in my bedroom over the weekend" vibe, this is what I'm here for tbh. I guess if you wanted to make the gameplay nicer you could add a fast-forward button. I could see this game becoming wildly addictive if you added a way to earn back money somehow, so that you could keep adding more traps.

grid96 2023-01-18 21:32

causing mayhem is always fun! also nice pun in the title :D I think a few more pixels wouldn't be bad though, it sometimes was hard to tell what's going on :)
