A cool and funny game! A little inconvenient control, I think it was possible to make a jump on the "space bar" key. Flies are really nasty! I really liked the graphics in the game. The musical accompaniment is cool. However, I did not have enough sound settings and full-screen mode (sometimes the game window was minimized because of this). My record is 26 cm. I guess I'm not a pro))) Thanks for the gaming experience!

skbadger 2024-10-08 14:37

Got up to 81m, really enjoy the visual design of the game. Slightly clunky gameplay wise, especially later on when the bees are really swarming you, but otherwise a really fun take on the jam concept. A great entry!

lucy-z 2024-10-08 14:40

Itโ€™s a bit difficult to control, but I really love the art style and visuals of this game. The hand-drawn style is very innovative.

robotchimp 2024-10-08 19:57

I agree with other critiques, controls could use a bit more work and those bees can be really weird and difficult a little later, but either way good job on it! I really like the paper art style.

tetracold 2024-10-09 12:25

thanks everyone for the feedback!

@tryam We didn't have time to implement some options but we may release a patch that will add those soon as well as make some small tweaks to the controls and enemies

@skbadger congrats haha that's higher than I got

@lucy-z Thanks a lot! I am happy that people like the artstyle I put together so far

glassar 2024-10-09 15:20

The artstyle was really cool and super well executed, well done. And I really enjoyed the gameplay, grappling hooks are fun

nick-halstead 2024-10-09 15:20

22cm - I absolutely love the art style and games where you can kind of mess around and just have fun! The enemies felt a little overwhelming and frustrating at times with no real way to get around them, but getting a good swing in was so satisfying. I think making the red tint just affect the peripherals would be a nice change. It didn't go away, even in the menu, but I enjoyed the effect letting me know I was in danger!

imberny 2024-10-09 15:21

Cool artstyle! Not sure why the frog is afraid of getting wet. I liked that ground pound move.

hakimallazi 2024-10-09 15:22

At first glance the game looks like a pretty weird platformer game. Then I saw grapple, 180 changed. Smart implementation of art style I just thought the arts might be better if the background do not overshadow the main character.

Good job for the game

lyamgtt 2024-10-09 15:23

Your art style is amazing !!

cam-moore 2024-10-09 15:27

I love the art! And the feel is nice with that grapple. I made it 50 CM!

lastuck 2024-10-09 15:31

reminds me of teeworlds! the artstyle is just great! good job!

andymetoo 2024-10-09 15:36

First of all I have to say that I absolutely love this art style. I want to see more of that in many more games, for sure, so keep that up. Overall it was a neat little game. My distance was 64 and I had kind of hit a ceiling and kept getting ganked by the enemies and knocked back down, and I'm pretty sure the water level was about to catch up to me, but in my frantic clicking I unfortunately clicked a link on my tool bar and switched pages lol, so I'll say 64 was my score. Great job!

tetracold 2024-10-09 15:40

@andymetoo LMAO yea don't worry I also have done that a few times in the heat of the game, especially cuz I have multiple screens, I'm happy you enjoyed the game tho!

Also thanks for the complements on the artsyle!!

tetracold 2024-10-09 15:44

@nick-halstead Glad you enjoyed it, the enemies are a bit frustrating because we didn't have enough time to balance it out properly. the red tint is actually some weird bug that only appears on the web version lol, I am not sure exactly why it's happening but I'll let the team know about it, thanks either way!

tetracold 2024-10-09 15:52

@hakimallazi haha yea, the grapple really makes things fun,

About the artsyle, I can see a little what you mean about the background being just slightly distracting, that's on of the reasons why we added the shaders on the frog sprite

weirdbitgames 2024-10-09 19:15

I love the crumpled paper art style wow! And having height measured in CMs really helps nail it home that you're tiny! Lovely music too!

ms-malloc 2024-10-09 22:45

It ran kinda slow on firefox for me, but I love the art style and the centimeter scale, fit the theme well!

lelulagames 2024-10-09 23:19

Art is awesome. Love the crumpled paper, and it was fun grappling.

she-wrote 2024-10-09 23:36

The momentum is super fun! Itโ€™s a bit off-putting that the frog canโ€™t swim or eat insects, and sometimes the flies feel a bit unfair because they appear on-screen faster than I can react. I think adding a way to defeat them would make the game even better. However, I absolutely LOVE the graphics and music; theyโ€™re so unique! And grappling around is super fun! So overall, well done!!

yufan-lu 2024-10-09 23:56

Many people are saying this but impressive art! Using plastic texture for water is really creative. And frog with a grappling hook is a great hook (no pun intended) for platformer.

tetracold 2024-10-10 00:01

@she-wrote The water is kinda the only thing we could come up with on the spot for a death barrier, I know it's a little bit counter intuitive but I think people understood either way. sadly we didn't have much time to make the enemies more in depth, including ways to defeat them, we had to scrap some others too. I am happy you still enjoyed it tho!

tetracold 2024-10-10 00:04

@yufan-lu omg thanks, I am actually super proud of how the water turned out, it was kind of a difficult edit to make and I wasn't sure if I could pull it off to this quality

pious 2024-10-10 00:32

Loved your take on a paper aesthetic! We also had a paper-like artstyle for a game made in Godot. But it was definitely different (check it out haha). Would love to ask about how you did the physics for a grappler since I liked how it played and I had trouble making my own grappler.

On the game itself: Loved the art style and the loop, it was a bit confusing to figure out exactly what kills the bugs, could've had more feedback/juice on that. But really enjoyed grappling around and I enjoyed the protagonist very much!

Good job!

swanboat 2024-10-11 04:37

Lovely game! This game was actually one we bookmarked a few days ago so when we saw your comment we were really excited! We adore the paper aesthetic art style, the little props like the monster cans and pencil holder cups were drawn so well and with so much care! The physics feel on point, and the little hop you do when you hook on the corner felt really nice. Boat's preferred speed strat was grappling onto the corner and Swan's was to dive after a hop to gain a higher vantage point to see where to grapple. The two of us competed for a while to get the highest score and we both tied on 71 cms :D

tetracold 2024-10-11 20:03

@pious I am glad you enjoyed the game! Also here's an explanation form our main coder Dom on how he made the grapple

"I have an independent static body that launches out in a direction, and when it hits a spot, it puts the user into a grappling state where they're sent going straight for the point of grappling

When get within around 50 pixels of range of that point or collide with something, if they're moving upwards, they do a little jump which helps with platforming and also feels better"

Hope it helps!

thyoi 2024-10-13 16:28

Another masterpiece. I super love your art style, it's like every object has a wild style but they fit together perfectly.

heart heart (here is a doodle for you XP)

tetracold 2024-10-13 17:08

@thyoi heck yea, thanks for the art and I am glad you enjoyed it!!

prostocupoftea 2024-10-13 18:59

Daaaam this is awesome! Great graphics, fun gameplay, music really gets you into that fast paced mood, real good entry!

Maybe slowing down music when slowing down time? cause i couldnt figure out what that does for some time-

i could get to 60, but at that point the bugs always harrass me to death- Couldnt even get to the funny number T_T prolly skill issue tho, the game is awesome

gm3l 2024-10-13 21:53

I love the visual art-style, with some pretty addictive gameplay. I got a bit nauseous from the background moving. The bugs were challenging but doable. Well done :v:

wyvex 2024-10-13 21:59

I loooved the art-style! The controls felt a bit weird, and do wish there was a little more feedback for your actions, still it's a really solid entry, congrats!

orbitaldot 2024-10-13 22:29

I can't say much about the art that hasn't already been said, great job there!!! Fun game too :) (also ey, i recognize that meowter space reference to the last jam ;D )

ruddiculous 2024-10-13 22:31

I was really drawn in by the art of this game! The grappling is pretty satisfying especially when you start spidermanning your way up using the momentum of successful grapples. The upsetting part is when your momentum isn't maintained horizontally - the wasd movements can be really punishing and you really heavily on the grappling to satisfy your mobility. Even in the air wasd doesn't give you any movement horizontally which would make a huge difference! I kinda wish the "dive" function did a bit more, i actually use it for the missing horizontal motion sometimes but i wish it could like kill enemies or something. Like, you gain an attack against the enemies at the cost of vertical progression, would be some cool design. Overall had fun playing this and enjoyed the satisfying mobility as well as the crafted art pieces, music and atmosphere of this game! Great entry keep jammin

ronn-fever 2024-10-13 22:48

Really fun game, although I'm a bit partial to games that feature grapples :P I liked that you could use the dive button to bounce higher, a really simple but fun way to get a bit more altitude before firing off the grapple. A bit like a platform-puzzler, solving for the best path to stay alive and getting higher. Great job.

aviv-levy 2024-10-14 11:31

Simple and fun gameloop, very cool art direction! Got to 79! I think controls could be a bit more dynamic and fluid. I'm not sure how, but it felt a bit stiff.

garys 2024-10-14 16:50

Brilliant!! This was really fun, but made even more so by the excellent art style. I got around 52cm, at which point it became really difficult, being swamped (see what I did there) with enemies. Some way of killing enemies would be good. Great entry.

hcs-hades 2024-10-18 03:40

Art was super cool :)

sasa-2010 2024-10-19 09:57

Wow! The game is so wonderful! Keep making games!

empyreans 2024-10-20 19:10

Thank you for bringing small problems to the stream, I had fun grappling with them :)

Art is amazing, good job ๐Ÿ˜Š

samuel-hollywood-summers 2024-10-24 10:55

This was fun! The visuals are charming and stylish, and I like how they draw from a few different styles and aesthetics. The music was nice, and I appreciated the additi9on of some SFX, but there could have been sounds for many more interactions. For example, the grapple hitting its target, the hook retracting again, etc. I also couldn't quite work out what to do about the bugs: were they enemies? Collectibles? Some of one, some of another? Overall, a great little jam game with a clear goal that is fun to play. Thanks for sharing.

creeper-nade 2024-10-24 15:44

the art style is certainly unique! Amazing work!

lindote 2024-10-24 18:13

An crossover of Zelda and Chrono Trigger... ahahaha Frog with a Hookshot, that is what I was thinking all the time. I LOVED the Art concept of the game... verry cleaver.

sockenpuppe 2024-10-24 21:11

This looks sooo good! The crumpled paper look is fantastic. The music is great, as well :D

Zooming around with the grappling hook is so much fun, especially when you really get into the flow (and I really love grappling hooks!).

But holy shit, some of those bees seem to have a serious grudge. Like ... as long as I'm moving around fast and am lucky enough it's okay but once I slow down a bit or run out of luck and they start swarming me it can be really hard to get back into it once they start knocking my poor frog around.

~~I may or may not have let out some really undignified "nooooo"s when they knocked me around a bit too much and my frog fell right into the water haha~~

All in all, a really cool entry! Well done!

kja8a8 2024-10-25 01:49

The art style of this game amazed me. This is probably the first time I have played such a realistic game style. It gave me a very different experience, as if I was playing a game in a painting.

aurailus 2024-10-25 05:46

Oh my god I love the art style here! The sticker & paper aesthetic is so unique and cool, I can tell a ton of work was put into it. It reminds me of Little Big Planet, I'm getting nostalgia for a game I've never ever played. The mechanics are simple and fun, although I think it's held back by the camera a little. Typically in platformer-esque games, the camera follows ahead of the player rather than behind them to let you see what's coming up. I found myself limited a bunch by simply not being able to see what was ahead of me while I was flinging myself. I also found that the bugs kept stunlocking me, and I wasn't sure if I was able to kill them or not. That said, I had a good 5 minutes playing around with it, I got around 50 points. I was charmed by the screen-space paper effect on the frog, and the music was excellent. Great entry all!

tetracold 2024-10-25 06:24

@aurailus thanks a lot for the feedback! you're totally right about the camera, I guess none of us thought of that while making the game lol

Also it makes me very happy that you liked the artstyle, I wanted it to be interesting and seeing such a positive reaction is amazing

miku 2024-10-25 08:15

This game has a really lovely style to it! I love all of the graphics and Frog with a Grappling Hook - you all were cooking that weekend lol.

I was actually getting really into it since the game is set up so you can kind of get into a trance. I made it into 80cm or so before the bees started just swarming me too much. I had quite a lot of fun with this game, great job!

roroto-sic 2024-10-25 09:21

I really like the music that give you a good chill & try hard mood ! Aesthetically unique ! it lack just a sound for when the grapple run out of power because sometime when i clicked and nothing happened i didnt know if i was a bug or a lack of power. else its a great entry ! :)

thomas-bringer 2024-10-25 09:43

First of all, even before playing, I'm a big fan of that artstyle! The itchio page itself looks splendid. Then, the music is such a banger, and gameplay is super fun. I really cant complain, super well made!

mrbananaz 2024-10-25 09:55

what a great art style!

big congrats on the game!
